FamilyRe: As Nigerians: Pregnant Daughter Or Gay Son? by maedan(f): 9:06pm On Jan 19, 2009
Babalaw0:
For the protagonists of this thread being on the front page, I am not surprised. As Nigerians we are used to having people in privileged positions shoving anything down our throat.

NLers as a collection of Nigerian intelligentsia know better. If we stop complaining and accept threads like this on the home page, one day we will be asked crazier questions (Have you seen your parents having sex? Have you seen your father/mother nude? Can you f**k/lick your brother/Sister?)

It is going to happen!! We have seen examples in Nigerian leadership already.

Again, I will plead with the moderator *Tgirl4real* to take this off the home page. It is an insult!
I'm really sorry to say, but I think this particular post of yours is more offensive, insulting and demeaning than the said topic and all the posts therein put together. Lawd! Now my sensibilities are seriously affected. How can u afford to even post such things on a thread u very well know is homepage? I have a funny feeling u dost protest too much brova!!! undecided

Sisi Jinx:
Lmao @ Calling for people to be Less Pompous and Open Minded on a thread about choosing between a Gay Son and a pregnant Daughter.

Rotflomao. . . talk about your Irony!! cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy
Your point being . . .? undecided

I'm simply about people not going on about what should make 'homepage' or not, or who go on some topics and ask its purpose. If people didn't take the plunge and start one thread or the other, repulsive as it may seem to some, I wonder where NL will be by now.
However, looking back now, I must say the topic has no life-changing value - which of course is hardly a crime - except on NL of course . . . cool
FamilyRe: As Nigerians: Pregnant Daughter Or Gay Son? by maedan(f): 3:45am On Jan 19, 2009
hehehe. Seriously, some people take life too seriously. Can't we do something for the fun of it? Goodness! Front page or not, meaningful topic or not, has anyone considered that it's good, once in a while to just exercise your imagination. Everything doesn't have to be centred on "serious" issues like world hunger and global warming or whatever people might feel deserves to make 'front page'. Truly, some people on dis NL act like snobs sef. Noone wants to have fun anymore. cry smiley

Let's all try to be less pompous and more open-minded once in a while! wink
FamilyRe: One Bank Account by maedan(f): 2:54am On Jan 19, 2009
It's great to hear from the established couples, @ sisterwoman, hotstuff, hotstepper et al. I always wondered how other people do it. When the woman is working, there is always the chance of the hubby being laid back about things like 'chop' money. Some men go as far as keeping separate bank accounts, letting their wife keep hers too, but keep loaning money from her all the time, which I hear can be so annoying bc they usually pay back in pieces! I like the joint account+separate account combo, it fits matured, sensible couples. But for women with wily husbands, too bad. They have a way of acting as if they're annoyed you're making your own money -almost as if they prefer you were depending on them for your every kobo! Some men sef.
FamilyRe: Why Has Divorce Rate Increased In Our Country by maedan(f): 2:41am On Jan 19, 2009
Divorce/separation was more rampant back then, we just didn't notice. Maybe because it was the men leaving the women. However these days, women are more self-assured and assertive of what they want, what they deserve, and so it's now more women walking out of their homes - and staying out. That's why it looks like the divorce rate has increased. When a woman does something, it is always multiplied x10. C'est la vie. undecided
FamilyRe: As Nigerians: Pregnant Daughter Or Gay Son? by maedan(f): 2:23am On Jan 19, 2009
Sensibilities aside, the truth is, anything is better than having a gay son. And as for a pregnant teenage daughter, it wasn't that long ago that our great great great grandma's were shipped off to their matrimonial homes once they reached puberty. So pls, the question makes sense, haba. It's just about picking the lesser of two evils, and believe me, a promiscuous daughter can be rehabilitated - (apologies to dayokanu, lol) but a gay son, well, it's more or less a hopeless case, except of course, there's divine intervention. Bottom line: God forbid either of the two!!!
TravelRe: What's Your Weather Like Today? by maedan(f): 1:36am On Jan 19, 2009
Two days ago it was freezing - the you-wished-you-stayed-put-at-home kind, but now it's just plain breezy, and I can live with that. Five degrees aint so bad: at least its far above d usual zero-minus level!!!
the river is deeper than you might think. cruise ships dock on that side of the city. its even deep enough, the government is thinking of using its depth and current to generate electricity.
You're probaby right, but when u see people in the pictures standing knee-deep around the sinking plane, u get d idea it was no major hazard. Think if the plane "landed" in d middle of the OCEAN,  hmmn. Like I said, God is in charge, 100%.
Foreign AffairsRe: Amazing Plane With More 150 Persons Crash Into The Sea And No Death! by maedan(f): 3:37pm On Jan 16, 2009
The first thing I thought when I saw the story last night, was God is alive. I mean, it could have been much, much worse. Textbook landing, bravery of pilot etc, and even the fact that d river looks shallow enough not to have posed a threat to life: the main conclusion is,over a 150 people walking away from a plane crash scene: it's the hand of God. It's times like these I'm glad I never stop believing in Him. wink
TravelRe: Let's Boycott The UK Visa For One Month by maedan(f): 4:12pm On Jan 15, 2009
If the boycott was possible, i'd have backed it 100%, but since such a mass action just can't happen, I'd only advise: aspiring visitors, students etc to the UK should take a break from applying for some months. The British economy is undergoing a serious crunch - everyone's in a bad mood. I totally agree that the UK VACs act like they've hit a goldmine with us, let them chop n quench. We have our ways of payback . . . wink

PoliticsRe: Pictures Of Oshodi Market Demolition by maedan(f): 10:33pm On Jan 10, 2009
getting rid of d oshodi mess: good start. But the megacity project? How can u squeeze that unto a small, over- populated region? Oh well, miracles happen. Don't mean to compare LAG to the FCT again, but in Abuja, there was ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT. (Pun seriously intended).

by d way, some posts read like dissertations and not comments. I think replies should be summarized as much as possible, some people (like me) try to read every post but when some of them are like 20 paragraphs long . . .

RomanceRe: Beyonce's If I Was A Boy Does It Say What Women Really Are? Or What Men Are ? by maedan(f): 9:18pm On Jan 07, 2009
Beyonce had a good point, which in short, is that if she were a boy, she'd know to treat her loved one better because as a woman she knew how it felt for her guy to betray/mistreat/not appreciate her.

As for the girl playa issue, girls have more self-control, so cheating is a rare thing with us femmes. As for guys . . . angry
PoliticsRe: Pictures Of Oshodi Market Demolition by maedan(f): 9:06pm On Jan 07, 2009
i think this is a good way to start. Lagosians have to start taking their governor seriously - just like the people of the FCT had to take el-Rufai seriously. True, I feel sorry for those who are financially affected by this, but in the end, it would be to the good of all.

TV/MoviesRe: Episodes Of 'Mark Of Uru': A Nigerian Cartoon by maedan(f): 11:27pm On Dec 30, 2008
Nice job. Didn't dig the dialogue though. When it comes to animation, stuff like dialogue and the voice-overs are just as important as the animation itself.
It makes us, the viewers, actually believe we're watching something real and not just cartoons.

That's why today, big names in animation pay heavy money for the voices and skills of well-known actors like Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy etc.
That said, I love all the characters: Azuka, the leopard man(lol) the medusa head, and skull face. It would have made a great comic book! Keep it up. smiley
