i noticed u used raised beds to grow ur vegetables instead of flat beds, u may think this doesnt matter but it does from a stand point of research i hav been conducting also. u see we use raised bed especially to drain excess water away from the crop in cases of too much rain, and here ure talking about conservation of water using raised bed! actually, u could try flat beds and give a moderate amount of water then try and note if they can witstand or do better vegetatively, the solution might hav been as simple as changing tillage type in the region where u are... also, not all crops enjoy deep watering system... i know tomatoes does but i dont know abt ugu... and in a case of growing hectares of land this might be laborious and expensive. therefore i might suggest reorientation of tillage choice like the use of flat beds drip irrigation dat can conserve water enormously while suppressing weed growth and others.. thank u.

Also, start the snail rearing first, it is when you actually find anything disturbing them before you can think of a solution. Termites dont like exposing them selves unlike ants therefore your snails should be safe. Only that you advoid using wood close to active termite exits they will eat through untreated wood.

ethno- from the word ethnic meaning indigenous then entomology... they really dont have it.. we can begin its concept by understanding how indigenous knowledge is applied to manage insect pest infestation.. when we have gathered alot of knowledge on it, then it will be recognized as a branch of entomology. thats why im using this forum to invite traditional farmers to share their native knowledge on how they identify diff pest and manage them..

we will need to discuss the way forward and establish our own insect pest catalogue of various states and seasons in Nigeria. i solicit the use of visual aids that is taking pictures of the pest we see on our farm land and pasting it here for identification and further possible control... it will be nice to help traditional farmers understand the true meaning of insect pest... also, i propose starting a branch of entomology termed ethnoentomology that is the indigenous knowledge of entomology..

.i will like to see the way u mulched it because the main purpose of mulching is to reduce evaporation and eva transpiration that means the purpose is not yet reached. u may increase but i still need to say that melon dont need that too much of water but require moderate water supply. but only if most of the water supplied is escaping and not used by the melon u may increase to compensate for this but to prevent leaching it is better to find a way of preventing such water from escape u might add to the quantity of your mulch material.

please try to mulch them using dry grasses around to protect them from loosing too much water. also don't water plant when the sun is hot is like literally pouring hot water on them. water very early in the morning and or very late in the even when the ground temperature has drop drastically.

let her try to replant them after getting the planting sett from it to see if there are chances of having multiple tubers again. it might just be an introduction to a new variety!
