He has all the qualities (vision, integrity, commitment, humility, empathy, candour, courage etc) to become Nigeria president... someday. Except that the S. Kaduna massacres, his complicity and religious intolerance dent his image a great deal. He'll find it hard to even become governor again. |

Feraz: Hmmm....seems the same is still happening.
Anyway, now that the middle belt has woken up and most are tired of being grouped with the core north, let's see what becomes of it.
And erm...why didn't he succeed in his coup?
CC Malton. The coup failed mainly because IBB got tipped off in good time to allow him escape Dodan Barracks with his family. He also enlisted the help of Sani Abacha, the then COAS, who shielded him in the aftermath of the coup attempt. Other accounts claim that the coup failed due to the assassination of UK Bello, IBB's ADC and Orkar's trusted hand and friend. So emotions got in the way, causing confusion amongst the coup plotters. Those are the reasons as far as I know, from the accounts I've read. The fulani herdsmen issue has opened everyone's eyes to current realities. One cannot be too careful of the Hausa/Fulani. |

The north has always remained as the North. Even with various tribes and dialects more than the south, they have always managed to put up one political front.
Do we have southern forum as they have nothern Nigeria forum?
While the South-South, Southwest and Southeast have in the past drawn their own national identities distinct from other regions of the south and have at various times called for independence, the North has always remained the North politically. And that's the stand of the OP.
You're as ignorant as you're insecure. The guy has a point, Mr. |

Ogalanyachieze: imagine what you just wrote. (1Cultural) which culture did you use as yardstick ? The north has more heterogenous culture than south. (2 tribal ) it still has more tribes scattered all over the north. Moreover ur write up was not about tribe or culture its is suppose to be purely economical how come you ended up presenting the north from a cultural view in mind while presenting the south from economic angle. If culture is why the north thrive why did you not include tourism as one of thier economic strength. When next you attemp this thread do your research well dont come to a public forum to insult intelligence. There are very well knowledgable people here. Thank me later Thank you! |

postmann: I lumped the northern region as a whole unite because of certain considerations - cultural, tribal homogeneity. There's no such thing as tribal homogeity between the middle belt and the core north. Some middle beltan states understand and speak hausa due to contacts with the hausa civilization. But that's that. They all maintain their individual identities nonetheless. |

PapaBrowne: We don't have to abolish states to implement regions same way we didn't abolish LGs to implement states.
But without question regionalization is the only way forward.
I was in Kaduna and Kano some months ago. In Kaduna at the central area, you have some tall buildings mostly built in the 60s that depict the glory days of the city. In Kano, you have some wonderful buildings mostly built in the 60s. Then you have numerous warehouses in Bombay industrial layout also from the 60s that indicate that it thrived greatly in an era before this.
There are hardly any new quality buildings in these two cities for the last 40 years.
Isn't it a clear indication that regionalism favored the North and the oil has not benefited it in any way? Why then would its leaders be opposed to You did travel and visited the mentioned places. However, it appears like the northerners have become lazy. |

Who'd save Nigeria from Nigerians?
Roughly 60% Nigerians are culpable in some way.
The high levels of corruption are an indication of the loveless marriage between Nigerians and Nigeria. A person with love of country will never inflict any injuries on her.
Then again, the people don't care for the society because the society (government) does not give rat's ass about them.
To instill love, the government must learn to care for and be compassionate toward the citizenry.
Unless the government finds a way to tackle the root causes, I'm afraid the present system is always going to find some way to spawn more corrupt people. |

laudate: How won't those young people on Quora make a sound contribution? They have been exposed to critical thinking, objective analysis, thorough research and enlightened, factual, rational discussions. They have learnt how to use qualitative and quantitative analytical skills, to draw appropriate conclusions. They have learnt how to critically evaluate arguments. Our own young people are busy brainwashing themselves with propaganda, false notions, BBNaija, MMM and tawdry hiphop junk music. Many of them have refused to educate themselves. See ehn, you've finished talk. It's really a pity. The young ones here find it hard to rise above student apathy due to the reasons you pointed out. Success to them is defined in terms of passing exam only. They couldn't be bothered about broadening their horizons. Unfortunately, apathy, low motivation, and laziness means we will continue to churn out chaff in the foreseeable future. The hearts and minds of young people in Nigeria are way too narrow. |

Ersan: And what about the army men from these regions? Are they deaf or paralyzed? Why cant they stand up for themselves and reject english names if it bothers them?
Are there no southerners in the army? northerners dont make all the decisions i assure you. Like i said, they just feel english is superior to their language and therefore prefer it.
The nigerian military which consists of both northerners and southerners is biased because it names operations in the north with hausa and that in the south with english. Are you people even serious? It seems like you lot just go about looking for what to moan about, like i said.... its pathetic.
Then what qualifies you to comment on their feelings or are you just echoing the thoughts of others? Why am i not even surprised though.... Why can't one rule apply to all, though? You've still not given any satisfactory answers to that. I've earned the right to comment on the ills plaguing the NA by virtue of my being a Nigerian. I need not come from a particular region to voice concerns over the wrongs done them. I hope that you see this not as a complaint, but rather as a valid issue worth looking into. We must learn to treat national issues holistically. |

Crime › Re: Army Launches Operation Harbin Kunama11 In Falgore Forest by malton: 6:45pm On May 22, 2017 |
Ersan: The north has a lingua franca, the south doesn't. If you coin it in one language i'm sure others will feel aggrieved over something this petty.
Like i stated earlier. But in areas where theres a clear majority then you have to show pride in your language and make sure such operations are named in them. I don't expect a northerner to stand up and reject the name because its in yoruba and in most cases your people are responsible for the names. You lot just dont have that mentality, you believe english to be superior to your language, so much so that you speak english even at home. shame!
This is not a serious issue at all in my opinion. It doesnt affect the soldiers or their ability to carry out their duties which is the most important thing. If you had claimed that the north gets better artillery than the south then that would be a serious issue but thats not the case.
Refer to my earlier statement, you need to stand up for your language. You can't blame us for your decadence when you blatantly allow and encourage it.
Nwannem, kai ne dai baka san gaskiya tunda dai kawai kana neman abin da zaka kushe ne. This is an entirely military issue. It has nothing to do with the civilians occupying the lands where these operations are carried out. This is especially as their inputs were not sought. The military hierarchy makes all decisions. Unless if standing up for your language means proposing to the army what to codename their operations, I don't see how it's any help. It's not an issue of decadence, but rather one of proclivity for bias and incompetence on the part of the military. Plus, I'm not even a southerner; I'm Plateau born through and through. |
