Okorocha To Uzodinma: "This Attack Has Opened a New but Ugly Chapter in Imo Politics" By Wisdom Nwedene Former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha has told the current Governor of the State, Hope Uzodinma that the attack on him by his aides "has opened a new but ugly chapter in Imo Politics". Senator Okorocha made this known through a statement sent to IGBERE TV by his Special Adviser on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo. He noted that Okorocha has never been a violent man and assured that they will react fully to the situation. According to the statement, "more than 1000 thugs, armed to teeth with knives and guns and led by Chinasa Nwaneri, governor Hope Uzodinma’s Special Adviser on Special Duties today, Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021, with the backing of armed policemen from Government House, attacked the former governor of the State and Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, Senator Rochas Okorocha’s Convoy. They attacked and damaged all the Vehicles in his Convoy. They also attacked his personal aides." "Senator Okorocha was with only his personal aides when the thugs unleashed the attack." "Okorocha has the strongest political structure in the state and teaming followers in the State. If he had expected the attacked, he would not have moved with his personal aides alone." BREAKING!!! Tension As Gunmen Storm Police Station In Ebonyi, 3 Killed, Others Injured! By Wisdom Nwedene, Abakaliki There is currently tension in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital after suspected gunmen killed three police officers while 2 others were injured in Ezza South LGA of the state. IGBERE TV gathered that the the slain officers identified as Inspector Danzumi Jimba, Inspector chilaka Anthony and Corporal Juliana Ugwu-Anyim were killed on Friday, 8 January. An eyewitness who spoke with IGBERE TV said the policemen were attacked by suspected hoodlums who invaded the police station at about 8:45pm on Friday night. Investigations revealed that the slain officers were two inspectors and one female who was relaxing in her room when the hoodlums struck. It was also gathered that the attackers took away three AK 47 rifles kept at the station. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs. Loveth Oda, who confirmed the incident explained that corpses of the slain officers had been deposited in a mortuary while the two who sustained bullet wounds were receiving treatment. However, the Commissioner for Internal Security in the State, Mr. Stanley Okoroemegha, said government was saddened by the incident and had given security agencies forty-eight hours to brief the government on how such breach occurred without any intelligence to forestall it. Biafra : UK, Israel Petitioned To Repatriate Nnamdi Kanu A renowned group, Pan-Ohanaeze Ndigbo socio-political organisation, Coalition of South East Professionals Network in Nigeria and Diaspora (CSEPNND), has petitioned United Kingdom and Israel, through the Federal Government to repatriate Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to face the law over an alleged treasonable felony, IGBERE TV reports. CSEPNND’s National President, Prof. Madumere Chika and National Secretary, Mazi Anayo Uchemba, in a petition seen by IGBERE TV, dated January 8th, 2021, released Saturday, and addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari, noted that their decision were predicated on Kanu’s abuse of his citizenship capable of casting Nigeria in a bad light before the international community. Chika described Kanu as a fugitive who escaped the law after being granted bail following his arrest and detention over treasonable felony and appealed to the United Kingdom and the Nation of Israel to cooperate with the Nigerian government to bring back Kanu to Nigeria to continue trial. “We are constrained to write this open letter to the Federal Government of Nigeria through the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, to immediately write the Government of the United Kingdom, requesting the extradition of our fugitive son and founder of Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, to Nigeria to continue his trial over alleged treasonable felony. “Since Kanu escaped justice to the United Kingdom where he has another citizenship, we have watched him on some video clips he posted on the Internet where he did not only boast that he would not submit himself before the trial that was abruptly suspended due to his sudden disappearance from the country but also threatened that he would destroy our dear country. “He has no doubt,followed the threat with a number of attacks on the country apart from the formation of a militia group which information at our disposal suggest he has armed to the teeth to fight the Nigerian Government. “We call on the Federal Government of Nigeria being ably led by President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, whose ministry deals with all extradition issues, to immediately forward extradition request on Kanu to the UK for action,” he said. He further called on the United Kingdom and Israel, to deny the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, the freedom of using the privilege of his foreign citizenship to incite violence against the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “We call on both the UK and Israel not to be seen to be facilitating the inglorious activities of a fugitive in Nigeria. They can prove their opposition to the activities of Kanu by flushing him out now. “We reiterate that we have reached a point where we expect the UK not to severe the ties that exist between it and Nigeria. We advise it to revisit its ill-advised choice of keeping a terrorist against the Nigerian state. “Having worked and contributed effortlessly to see Nigeria at its present state, we believe that the United Kingdom and Israel would not want to see Nigeria a shattered state. “It is in this regard that we are strongly appealing to them to assist in the extradition of Kanu, whose activities have been against the unity of Nigeria. “As Igbo sons and daughters, we wish to inform Nigerians that Kanu is alone in his cessation project and has no reasonable person behind him,” he said. He added that even though the South East region had not had its fair share in the one Nigeria project, adding that the pursuit of inclusive government must be channelled through appropriate lawful means. “Though our people are highly marginalized and deserve the right for agitation, but that must be done legally and by the appropriate people not a deviant young man like Nnamdi Kanu who is out for his selfish interest. “Kanu has disobeyed this valid court order, which has not been set aside, either by the trial court, or by the Court of Appeal. “Kanu has always lamented the treatment of people from the South East zone by the Nigerian government and by other Nigerians. This formed the reason for his agitation for a country of his own. “However, while Kanu has a right to legally clamour for whatever he believes in, he should also know that the Igbo Nation has recognized spokespersons in the forms of the governors, legislators and Ohaneze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group. The Governor made the commendation during the 2020 Uburu day at his country home. Governor Umahi while charging people in authority to always impact in the lives of their subjects also advised those charged to execute Government projects to do so in quality. "We have come up with a template for effective leadership in Ebonyi State which are equity, fairness and justice and no one has the capacity to change it, I love my people, I love Ebonyi people, anytime I am at home, I eat outside, if I am in Abakaliki, I eat outside, every body in Government has got something to give" The Governor while announcing that the new Medical School in Uburu will take off before the end of March, also said efforts were on to ensure all round water supply and electricity in the State soon. Leaders of the Community Eze Lazarus Umahi Ph.D and Dr Daniel Umezuruike thanked Governor Umahi for the massive infrastructural development in Uburu and restated their readiness to continue supporting his administration. Presenting the broom to Nwaji on behalf the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the APC , Governor Mai Buni , Kalu commended the former LG Boss for his decision to join the APC , and asked him to register in his ward immediately. Kalu who noted that he is glad Nwaji is back to the APC after rendering service to his community through the PDP also urged him to sweep out all evils around him with the broom . JUST IN!!! Lectures Recommence In Gregory University Uturu Academic activities are set to resume in Gregory University Uturu, after the Christmas and New Year holidays. According to a release made available to IGBERE TV by the Acting Registrar, Mrs. Rosemary Igboekwe, lectures have been scheduled to commence virtually on Monday, January 4, 2021 in continuation of the Harmattan Semester of the 2020/2021 academic session. Part of the press statement reads thus: "After the Christmas and New Year break, we are glad to announce the commencement of online lectures, from Monday, January 4, 2021. This is to enable us fulfill the statutory 18-week academic work, required to make up a semester, while complying with National Universities Commissions (NUC) directives on closure of schools due to the second wave of COVID-19 in Nigeria". The release therefore, requests all scholars of GUU to visit the schools official website (www.gregoryuniversityuturu.edu.ng), to download the updated online lecture timetable as released by the Centre for e-Learning Resource in conjunction with the Directorate of SERVICOM and Quality Assurance, while also enjoining lecturers to post weblinks to their lectures on all designated social media platforms for scholars. Recall that Gregory University Uturu successfully resorted to virtual teaching and learning in 2020, at the peak of the nationwide lockdown, occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic. Man Hacks His Baby Mama In Imo Over Food (Photos) A 27-year-old businessman, Emmanuel Chukwuma Igwe, has been accused of brutalizing his baby mama, Porcia Achonu, and cutting her with a cutlass, in Owerri, Imo State. According to the mother of two, the incident occurred on Saturday, January 2, at about 1am, shortly after they had returned from a trip to the village. “My baby daddy’s younger sister served him food and I asked her about mine. She eyed me and hissed. So I stood up from where I was and went to her room to collect a piece of chicken, she grabbed the chicken from me and asked me if I was mad. So we started fighting and my baby daddy came in and descended on me. He beat me up so badly that his father came out and was holding me. They locked me inside the house and said I wouldn’t go anywhere. Even when my brother came, they refused to let him in. Later, my baby daddy asked his father to open the gate so he can leave, but instead, he went to his car and brought out a cutlass which he used to chopped me repeatedly in the presence of his father. At a point, I pretended as if I was dead so he could leave me alone. He fell for it and that was when he drove off with his car. Abia-North : Senator Kalu Vows To Renovate, Reconstruct More Schools It was a double celebration for the people of Amaeke Item in Bende LGA of Abia-North of Abia State as the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu Senatorial announced his plan to reconstruct and renovate their community primary school. Senator Kalu who is also their representative at the upper parliament disclosed this during the community's end of year celebration tagged "2020 Amaeke Item Day / Ime Uche and Ifu-Uke". IGBERE TV reports that the people who gathered at the "Umunnato Central School" to celebrate the event ; had an icing added to their cake when Senator Kalu who was the Chief Guest of Honour at the event disclosed to them that the primary school will be renovated. Giving his speech during the cultural themed event, Senator Kalu disclosed his plan to renovate the Umunnato Central school, this will add to the over 30 primary schools currently undergoing massive reconstruction in his constituency through his intervention. Coincidently , the primary school similar to others was built by Senator Kalu during his tenure as Governor of Abia State, however subsequent and current administration paid no attention to it till date. Kalu said that he's intention to carry out renovation work on the school in 2021 was borne out of his zeal to serve the people. In his words " When I came into this arena , I saw this primary school this is a school that I built when I was Governor unfortunately it has been abandoned. I can sure you all that in addition to other schools which I am currently renovating I will ensure that this particular school is completely renovated. "I don't play politics neither do I make empty promises , I speak with my actions . During the last election I gave you all assurances that this road will be tarred and today you can all see the road is being tarred. In less than one year in office, you can see that we have five roads currently being constructed in "Isuikwuato" , in Ohafia there are five roads being tarred, same in Arochukwu we also have five roads , at Item the "rubber road" is also being constructed. Apart from that next year work will also commenced at "Apagu" to "Akanu" roads. As Governor the children were. Otherwise paying school fees , our tuition free school Programe was 100% . Our teachers were promptly paid, our pensioners and I always matched my words with action. Senator Kalu also enjoined the people to uphold their cultural values , Kalu emphasised the need to uphold and promote the cultural rich values of Abia and Nigeria at large. Expressing his gratitude on behalf of the elated crowd, President General of Amaeke Item community Chief Ebere Ali appreciated Senator Kalu for his commitment to rebuild the community school, Ebere also thanked the Chief Whip for other ongoing projects within the Senatorial zone. He wrote: “The completion of Osusu Road today sent torrents of nostalgic feelings about the plight of indigenes & residents of Osusu through my veins. The road had been derelict & forgotten! As at the last time I checked, way before the commencement of the construction of the road, plantain trees were freely flourishing on the road, commercial keke & okada riders could not ply Osusu Rd. Even waste management in that axis was not feasible because the evacuation trucks could not find thier way through. It got so bad that even EEDC had to cut off Osusu from the National Grid. "Businesses & livelihoods ceased, life virtually came to a standstill to the extent that a whole storey building sold for just N7m compared to the price of similar buildings in surrounding areas! But today, alas, our Osusu Rd has "resurrected", and it won’t die again, at least, not soon! It might not because true to type in this regime, we were able to do an end to end drainage which we connected to the Okigwe Rd drain heading to Aba River. We then did a 10" concrete pavement with rod before we finally used 4" asphalt as wearing course! "Investors, especially tile merchants who saw the rigorous process have since moved into the road . Gridlock Along Owerri-Umuahia Road, Amachara As Sen Kalu, Commuters Stuck In Traffic The Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Kalu, and other road users were stuck in traffic along Owerri-Umuahia road, Amachara road, Tower, Umuahia due to poor traffic management on the ever-busy route, Igbere TV reports. Speaking to IGBERE TV correspondent over the hardship motorists and commuters face on the popular road, a motorist, travelling from Owerri to Umuahia, Tony Eke, who had been in traffic for over eight hours, poured out his anger and frustration caused by the ugly incident, blaming Abia state government for providing traffic officials to control traffic across the state. The passenger said, "I am travelling to Umuahia from Owerri. " All the passengers in the bus are frustrated owing to the traffic congestion on this route. "We have been in this traffic since 1pm and here we are at 9pm. " We don't deserve this hardship and pain. "We are tired of the road and not even a traffic officer is on the road to control traffic. " Abia state government should have provided officials to control traffic especially during this festive period, when people travel to visit family, friends and associates. "The state government must wake up and put in place the necessary machinery to ensure hitch free and free traffic flow along this axis" The former Governor in company of his daughter, Zina and routine of aides, were also helpless, as they were also stuck in traffic for four hours. Don't Withdraw From Active Politics ; Ohanaeze Ndigbo Tells Umahi ~As Governor Umahi approves promotion of civil servants based on vacancy The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, the Ohaneze Ndigbo has called on Governor David Nweze Umahi not to moot quitting politics in 2023 but make himself available to occupy a national position in the Country due to his track record of leadership ingenuity, Igbere TV reports. The Leader of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Ebonyi State Chapter, Deacon Boniface Offor, made the call when he led the organization on a Christmas homage to the Governor in Uburu. Deacon Offor who said Governor Umahi deserves the opportunity to extend his pragmatic leadership across Nigeria, promised to magnify the good news of Ebonyi State transformation under Governor Umahi to all nooks and crannies. "...because you are the person chosen by God to make Nigeria better, do not say you are withdrawing from politics, Ndigbo will not take it, Nigeria will not take it " Responding, Governor Umahi commended ohaneze Ndigbo for the warm sentiments. He congratulated the outgoing National Chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo for working assiduously to agitate for the welfare of Ndigbo. "He has done extremely well for Ndigbo, he is leaving a very big shoe, my prayer is for God to bring someone who will fit in." Also, the Governor while receiving a delegation of Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress approved the promotion of workers based on vacancies from 2021. He, however, explained that promotions are done when there is a vacancy. "Promotion is based on availability of vacancy. Next year we will be talking about further Agricultural empowerment and promotion based on vacancy" He directed that compilation of vacancies in various MDAs should begin while a written examination will be a determinant for the promotion. The leader of the delegation, Comrade Leonard Nkah extolled the Governor for an adequate welfare package for Civil servants in the State. The Governor also received the delegation of Nigerian Law School Students who conferred on him an award as the Lion of the East for his love for the Students. The Governor appealed to them to take their studies seriously and be good ambassadors of the State. He later received delegations from the Traditional Rulers Council led by Eze Charles Mkpuma who is also the chairman of southeast Traditional Rulers Council, the TAs, STAs, EAs, ministries of Agriculture, Market Development, Environment and the Devine Mandate Pastors who were unanimous in their commendation of the Governor for the massive transformation of the State. The Christ Embassy Church led by Pastor Eunice Oyeyemi particularly praised the Governor for the manner he handled the COVID-19 pandemic and promised to keep praying for the Government. "We have come to let you know that you have not only been good to Ebonyi State alone but to the entire country because you have a good heart and you do whatever the Lord asks you to do" The Governor commended the Church for always standing by him.
