PoliticsOgonis Threaten To Secede From Nigeria by manchy7531(op): 10:22pm On May 09, 2012
- from Akanimo Sampson -

PRESIDENT of the Ogoni mass organisation, Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) Dr. Goodluck Diigbo, has said that the kinsmen and women of the late Ken Saro-Wiwa, will embark on a journey to regain their sovereign independence violated by the British Empire in 1901.

This, he said in an online statement to AkanimoReports on Wednesday, will be non-negotiable; if by any mistake, there is another civil war aiming at Ogoni.

Diigbo recalled that the Nigeria-Biafra civil war was fought to decide who should control natural wealth, especially petroleum resources in Ogoni. He said he was alerting the world that in the event of another similar civil war, the Ogoni people will promptly declare an end to their relationship with Nigeria.

Diigbo said that the Ogoni people are monitoring the heart-beat of Nigeria and warned that the right to autonomy or self-determination remains a pre-condition now, for Ogoni to remain a part of Nigeria.

Diigbo said the decision was arrived at after MOSOP had resolved and declared that May 7 to June 6, 2012 be observed as the Ogoni Freedom-Remembrance-Month.

”MOSOP dedicated the month to Ogoni 30,000 refugees, most of them conscripts sent to battle fronts and were killed during the 1967-1970 Nigeria-Biafra civil war”, Diigbo said, adding, ”already another 10 percent of the civil war Ogoni casualties, numbering over 3,000 have been murdered by the Nigerian armed forces since 1993 in an attempt to intimidate MOSOP”.

Diigbo said all Ogoni children, men and women who died gave their lives for freedom behind the May 7 to June 6, activities. The beginning of the month coincides with the start of the annual United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues holding in New York.

”Saturday, May 19 will feature traditional rituals, May 20 for church services, while May 21 and 22 will be work free days for nationwide nonviolent activities to unite Ogonis for a new era.

”On May 21, 1994 four Ogoni elders: Albert Badey, Edward Kobani, Samuel Orage and another Chief Orage were murdered at Giokoo, while the security forces kidnapped Ken Saro-Wiwa on May 22, 1994 to face a predetermined death sentence handed down by Justice Ibrahim Auta, a judicial rubber stamp.

”Auta who presided over a kangaroo tribunal where Saro-Wiwa was taken read out trumped up charges to hang Saro-Wiwa in a Port Harcourt prison on November 10, 1995.

”In addition to tree-planting, in cities, towns and villages throughout Ogoni, traditional dancing groups, churches, clubs, organizations, schools and businesses would be contributing entertainment, money, skills, time and friendship to strengthen MOSOP Freedom Agenda”, the Ogoni group said.

If you are a child of GOD, if you are a CHRISTIAN, there is only one way of knowing the truth. The HOLY SPIRIT is always ready to reveal hidden things to us. The question however is, will you have the patience and open heart to pray for revelation from the HOLY SPIRIT. There are people who make out time to ask GOD to tell them about certain people and some confusing issues. Again, there people who have had the chance to see some Ministries and what go on there. Those who have not prayed should not be in a haste to defend what they have answers to. Whoever has got a revelation from the HOLY SPIRIT should say so and not talk from imagination. I just want to know.
PoliticsTB Joshua Officially Banned From Cameroun by manchy7531(op): 9:50pm On May 09, 2012
The Cameroonian government has blacklisted Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, saying that he is an agent of satan hoodwinking unsuspecting members of the public with “diabolical miracles”
Cameroon Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Henri Eyebe Ayissi, in an official communiqué he issued titled: “The Devil Is In the House”, described T.B. Joshua as a “son of the devil” pretending to be “a man of God.”

The minister warned hundreds of Cameroonians, trooping to Lagos, South West Nigeria, for miracles in Joshua’s church, to desist from taking the trip or face the consequences, as the country will not stand by them.
The communiqué written in French read in part: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns those who by naivety or deception of Emmanuel TV’s captivating images, or even those who by hopelessness, envisage taking the pilgrimage to Pastor T.B.

Joshua’s Synagogue Church Of All Nations in Lagos, that they will do so at their own risk.
“The Cameroonian Government warns these pilgrims that they will face the consequences alone. This is motivated by the painful and shameful fact that Cameroonian men and women, in search of deliverance and blessings, once in that church, find themselves in bestial and pitiable conditions.

“Women are Molested; pilgrims dispossessed of their belongings by armed robbers and left to sleep on the streets at the mercy of gangs. Many cases of assassinations have even been recorded. And this is without other cases that are not recorded at the Cameroonian Embassy in Lagos with the victims too ashamed to narrate their infernal odysseys once they are out of Hell,” the minister said.

The minister said that while the bible asks us to be discreet with gifts and donations to the poor, T.B. Joshua is seen daily dolling out bags of rice to indigent people.

It was learnt that hundreds of Cameroonians who sold their properties or borrowed money in the hope of getting miracles in T.B. Joshua’s Church, only got disappointed in Lagos.
It was also reported that Prophet TB Joshua’s TV station has gained popularity in Cameroon and many people are tempted to take the trip and receive healings and sudden blessings. It says that Joshua is now in many households in Cameroon and many people believe the flashy images they watch on.

A flawed and erroneous perception of Awo. This is not to denigrade his persona, but to paint a true picture and a realistic representation of Awo is as follows:

1. He was a tribal chieftain and could not see beyond his nose when it mattered the most for a short-term gain.

2. He was full of contempt and was distrustful of his comtemporaries, and also led the way in tribal politics (Carpet-crossing).

3. When Emeka Ojukwu who was young enough to be his own son, warned him of the impending doom. This same Awo jettisoned a brillant idea to free everybody from this shackle and bondage of a nation called Nigeria.

4. Awo was consumed with hate in thinking that the defeat of Igbos will advertently bring endless rewards to Yorubas by taking over from where the Igbos left off. But as history has shown us, such rewards never last long in history.

5. That singular act of betrayal from Pa Awo has forever and inadvertently placed a burden of guilt on the younger Yorubas, who will always be derided and stigmatized cameleons and a bunch that can't be trusted, weather deserved or not, only time will tale.

To be continued............Only time will tale!!!

Papa wondered why people couldn’t see ahead – Dr. Awolowo-Dosunmu
He predicted what is happening today – Ayo Adebanjo

What does late Papa Obafemi Awolowo have in common today with members of the Jamaatu Ahlil Sunna Lidawati wal Jihad, otherwise known as Boko Haram, Northern Governors Forum, NGF, members of the South South Governors, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, President Goodluck Jonathan, Pastor Tunde Bakare – the list could go on?

At a time when the Nigerian nation is becoming shambolic, when insurgency and all manner of agitation have taken over the land, the profound words of Pa Awolowo while he was alive, that the best way for the Nigerian nation to develop and develop well is for the constituent units that constitute the federation to develop at their own pace without hindering the progress of one or more, while not foisting a regime of imbalance on the others by over centralizing responsibilities and privileges.

Today, those very profound thoughts capture the present agitation by those listed above. If members of Jamaatu Ahlil Sunna Lidawati wal Jihad had agitated for their own brand of Islam (as they set out to do ab initio through their late leader, Mohammed Yusuf), in a Northern Nigeria under a truly fiscally federal system, the dimension to the insurgency would have been different. It would have evolved within the operating environment that would have easily taken care of their demands, agitations or even excesses.

For the NGF, had Nigeria operated as a truly federal republic, with federating units developing at a pace commensurate to prevailing resources and opportunities, their demand for an increase in revenue or a change of the revenue sharing formular, with particular reference to derivation, would never have come up. But that is what the northern governors are saying now.

For the South South governors and their dreams of independent power plants and the intricate policy of not being able to transmit and distribute, true federalism would have solved their problem.

Even General Ibrahim Babangida who woke up some two years ago to express concern about the lack of a structure that would take care of the varying needs of the regions did not want to admit it but would have been more forthright had he owned up to the fact that true federalism would address most of the challenges confronting Nigeria.

For President Jonathan who appears to be unsurefooted after almost two years as president and a full year into the mandate that Nigerians gave him, his constant lamentation about the wanton destruction of lives and property by Boko Haram can be partially addressed if the basis of engagement of the federating units in Nigeria is re-negotiated.

All these had been captured by Obafemi Awolowo before and immediately after Nigeria’s independence, that true federalism would ensure a more prosperous and peaceful Nigerian nation. Perhaps, Awolowo lived ahead of his time.

On Wednesday, May 9, 2012, children, grand children, great grand children, great great grand children, in-laws, wife, friends, political associates, protégés, politicians, students, market women (and men) would throng Ikenne, Ogun State, for the 25th remembrance celebration of his death.

Chief Awolowo

In Nigeria, leaders are quickly forgotten once they die. Nigerians should not be blamed. The simple reason is that legacies, wonderful legacies, are very hard to attribute to leaders once they die. Even those living and still in positions of authority to do good find it very difficult to espouse the virtues of responsible leadership!

According to Dr. Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu, daughter of the late sage, Papa lived a fulfilled life. She told Sunday Vanguard that “Papa lived a very fulfilled life on a personal note. He achieved all he set out to achieve. But there were times at breakfast that Papa would take a look at the situation in the country and begin to lament about what was going on and what was likely to happen.

“It created some sort of frustration for him because he wondered why people could not just see what he saw.
“He wondered why Nigerians would allow things to keep sliding down the precipice. “He wondered what was difficult in, for instance, not seeing that true federalism would address most of the concerns of Nigerians in more ways than one”. For the family, she said, Papa’s life provided immense inspiration.

This view is also shared by Pa Ayo Adebanjo, one of the very staunch followers of Awolowo, even in death. With immeasurable passion, Adebanjo told Sunday Vanguard that “Papa was a man who thought far ahead of his time. He saw things far ahead of many of his contemporaries. Papa was not your ordinary Yoruba man or your ordinary Nigerian”.

Asked about the significance of remembering him 25 years after his death, Adebanjo pointed out that “that is because of the things he stood for while he was alive; he thought ahead of his time. No Nigerian is remembered the way Awolowo is remembered. He foretold everything happening now. He believed that the Nigerian nation can’t be settled except the constituent units all grow at their own pace.

“Although we’ve tried to amend the constitution but we cant get it right except we go back to what he used to say in those days and that was the fact that true federalism would address most of the problems we have in this country – politically, economically, socially and even on the religious front, true federalism would cater for all”.

Continuing, Adebanjo revealed how Awolowo used to talk about the country with passion, the need for unity and all that but people who “could not see beyond their noses called him all sorts of names. Even those who said he was rigid, I would rather have a rigid man who means well and does well for all to see than people who are good for nothing. Those who were not rigid, what good have they done for Nigeria. Even those among them who are alive and had more opportunities to do good, did they do it”, Adebanjo querried.

”He fought for the minorities and when in those days he started championing their cause, because they did not understand what he was saying, people labeled him a tribalist. They called him names. They were blind but he was practical. He emphasized honest leadership. He had always said corruption and corrupt leadership can not get us anywhere at all and that is what we are seeing today. Look at the subsidy probe. It is all about those in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the party of the President”, he said.

On a personal note, according to Adebanjo, “sometime in the late 1970s, I lost a brother and when I eventually met with Papa, I challenged him in my own way that he did not even commiserate with me but papa shocked me with his response and that singular event humbled me.

“He didn’t know that I’d lost a brother and you needed to see the way he apologized so profusely such that I became embarrassed. The following day he drove all the way from Ikene to Ijebu to condole with my father. He was that nice. As a young man I felt bad. But he said Ayoos, I didn’t know. He pleaded as if he offended me.

“When I remember that and look at our people today I wonder and I compare his humility to what some of our so called politicians do today, I just wonder”. Speaking with Sunday Vanguard, Mr. Edward Dickson, Editor, Nigerian Tribune, Awolowo’s paper, explained that “most of what Papa said in those days remain pungent now and that is why he would forever be remembered”.

On Wednesday’s programme, Dickson said there would be a service of songs at Our Saviours Anglican Church, Ikene, orgnaised by the Obafemi Awolowo Memorial Anglican Church, OAMAC, adding that reception for guests would be both at the Awolowo residence in Ikene as well as Our Saviours Church. He said 25years after his death, the family is still grateful to God that he remains relevant: “Hardly a day passes that people would not make reference to him for good”.
PoliticsNorth Not Afraid Of Nigeria’s Break Up - Senator Gaya by manchy7531(op): 12:43pm On May 06, 2012
Former governor of Kano State on the ticket of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and two-time senator representing Kano South on the ticket of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Kabiru Gaya, in this interview with AYODELE ADESANMI, speaks on burning national issues, including the stand of the North over possible break up of Nigeria, the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidency, among others. Excerpts:

MANY states of the federation are going through financial difficulties as they have been going to the capital market before they could embark on development al projects. What do you think are responsible for this financial crisis?

If you look at it, only four states can survive without the monthly allocation from the federation account; they are Lagos, Kano, Rivers and Delta. To me, what really caused the financial problem is lack of focus and vision by the previous administration in the country.

There was vision during the administration of our late leaders. In this country, leaders like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikwe, Alhaji Ahmadu Bello among others, had their plans and vision of where Nigeria would be 50 years from when they were in power. Moreover, all of them focused on agriculture because of the virile land and the favourable weather in the country. But shortly after they left, oil was discovered and all of us became lazy. The discovery of oil is a curse, rather than a blessing. In those years, agriculture was the main focus and it worked well and we were exporting palm oil to countries like Malaysia. But Malaysia came here under our nose and picked the fruit and today, the reverse is the case. Then, we equally produced groundnut in abundance, so much so that we exported to some Western countries which from it produced groundnut cake, biscuits and oil.

But today, we import groundnut oil. Sincerely, the only way you can give people employment is through agriculture as you cannot give everybody job in the offices. A good example is when the late Audu Bako was governor of Kano State; he followed the footsteps of our former leaders and concentrated on agriculture. As one of his strategies then, he built dams for irrigation to supply water to farmlands of many acres of land. The benefitting farmers throughout the years were busy; they could feed their families; they made money. During the period, many river basins were established to assist farmers throughout the country.

Unfortunately, during the military coup of 1985, all the existing river basins were taken over by the military government. That take over took us backward. Later, the government went to sleep with the coming of oil. Instead of investing heavily in agriculture and securing our future, the money realised was used to build Abuja as the headquarters as well as many bridges that lead to nowhere.

Another mistake was the establishment of the Ajaokuta Steel Rolling Mill. It was even a white elephant project because the wrong template was used. We started with the production of iron rods because we were going to build Abuja city, whereas we should have started with flat sheet and follow it by block for car engines. We made bullet bar which could be cut into pieces for iron rod, but should that be our priority? If we had started with flat sheet, we would have been able to produce so many things; but we went on making rods. So, you can see how we were misplacing our priorities.

Also, in the automobiles industry when we wanted to set up assembly, instead of starting with one type, we brought varieties; Peugeot, Steyr, Volkswagen and all of them. We just assembled the parts as all of them came with engines and other parts; the country did not learn anything from that. If we had redesigned the Ajaokuta Steel Rolling Mill to a certain requirement for our factory it, would have helped us a lot.

There is also the case of the Defence Industry Corporation (DIC) Kaduna. In the beginning, the Brazilians came to Nigeria to learn more about the technology there, but today, from what they learnt here, they are now producing aircraft. Today, DIC can only produce furniture. We totally misplaced our priorities because we had oil and we forgot everything else.

The essential thing for us to have done was to have re-invest oil proceeds in areas like agriculture in particular. The financial crisis is the problem of some leaders of the country who misplaced our priorities and the effect is what we are reaping today; we used the whole money generated from oil to build structures that are not profitable and cannot stand the test of time.

How was it during your time as the chief executive of Kano State?

I was elected as the governor in 1992, but during that period, the monthly allocation from the federation account was between N50 to N70 million which is not at present up to one local government’s monthly allocation and I had 36 local government areas. But I was able to embark on projects that were beneficial to the people. I started earning foreign income at that time from exportation of meat to Saudi Arabia as I revived the moribund abattoir. Also, we developed sport; we sold some players to Saudi Arabian clubs and we made good money from this.

In agriculture, I told the then President Ibrahim Babangida that if Kano State was given a conducive atmosphere, it would produce all the wheat required for the country, but politics crept in and that was the end.

Nowadays, over 70 per cent of money available goes to re-current expenditure. The issue is that the government must have plans for the people.

What is your own opinion on this issue of Sovereign National Conference (SNC)?

What are they going to talk about? Personally, I don’t even know what they mean. Somebody said recently that we should go back to regional government, but to me, we have since passed that stage. In those days of regional government, what was the total sum of revenue generated compared with the present? If you would agree with me, the revenue generated in Northern Nigeria was used in funding projects in Southern Nigeria. That is why I laughed when some people said that we were using oil money to develop projects in the North. People forgot that all the development we have like the port in Apapa, the ports in Port-Harcourt and Warri were from the revenue generated in those days from the cacao, cotton, groundnut, palm oil, among others. I remember vividly that the Federal Government then borrowed money from Northern Nigeria which it never paid back. Why are Nigerians so forgetful? Now, you have oil and you are saying ‘let us talk.’ What do you want to talk about? At present, some sections of this country are rich. Let them share their own money within themselves, but people tend to forget that if I invested N1 million in those days in a company and that company is a billion naira company and if that my N1 million share is just 10 per cent of the company, that means that I have 10 per cent of N1 billion. Then, why are people saying that some states are just taking money from oil money without contributing? This oil money is our money. What happens to the oil we produce off shore? I think all this problem is the issue of greed. As of now, we have 360 House of Representatives members. After that, we have 109 senators who are also representing Nigerians. Then, who do you want to bring to discuss Nigerians’ problems, if not these people? At the state level, we have state Houses of Assembly members and at the local government level, we have councilors. These are the people you can communicate to and give your views and allow to discuss them and take resolutions. One other thing is that those people who said they wanted to talk; are they going to be elected or nominated by the governments? Let me tell you, if the North wants to break up, fine and if the South wants to break up, then, it is fine, but what of the investments in the North and the investments in the South? What do you do with all those investments, especially those of the ports authority? Would they go to the North or the South as we used the joint money to build them? Those are the major revenue generation sources from the South and when you go to the South-South, they are producing oil, but how did they drill and set up refinery to refine the oil? Was it not the initial money collected from cacao, groundnut and cotton that was used then? So, what do you want us to break for?

The North is not afraid of break up at all as we have so many potentials that we can survive on. If a country like Niger can survive and discover oil when the land is not even good at all for agriculture, the North equally has potentials of producing oil, but oil is not the solution as many countries without oil are surviving extremely well.

However, for those who believe Nigeria must be united for peace and tranquility, they are the ones who believe that the more the merrier, because if we have a population of 150 million people, then, we are the heart of Africa. I personally believe the issue of disunity would not help us. People forget that this country must remain united and they must all realise that we fought a civil war to get this country united. And I don’t think we want to fight another civil war. Those who witnessed the civil war would not pray for a repeat. To me, why do we need to fight over resources we can tap and enjoy together? I think the problem we have in this country is how to manage our resources, but every Nigerian wants to be corrupt and be too rich. In this country, if all of us are sincere and honest with ourselves, we would achieve greater heights.

Some parts of the country believe that what they are getting from the federation account is not commensurate with the output, while others are getting without making any contributions. How do you see this?

People only fight when they want to share money; even thieves, when they want to share their loots. Some parts of the country are thinking that they need to take all the resources from what they produce, but the North equally produced groundnut and cotton and we did not take all the resources then. What we are saying now is that if you say you want to manage your resources at this time and with the present situation in the country, it means that what you are stealing at present is small and you want to have more so that you can steal more. The population of North-West is about 33 per cent of Nigeria’s population and one state in the South-South is receiving an of equivalent allocation to the seven states of the North-West, then, are you saying that is equity and balancing? It is not. If you say you are ready to talk, we are equally ready as there is a lot to talk about. There is a lot of deprivation by people from other parts of the country. But I don’t want to talk like a Northerner but like a Nigerian because I am a Nigerian and I value all Nigerian people and I respect them. I also believe that we are all brothers and sisters and if we believe in the biblical injunction that love your neighbours as yourself, why then are we saying that your neighbour is taking too much and you want to reduce it? In Nigeria, we should try and realise that we must survive together.

Some believe that some parts of the country have more states than others in the 36-state structure of the country and that there is need to balance it. That is the reason for agitation for creation of more states. How do you see this?

The North-East has five states, North-West, seven, while others have six each. But look at the map, take the land area and the population of the North and compare them to the land area and the population of the South. The creation of states is not based on the North and South dichotomy, but we should look at the viability of the states. Let me tell you, no state from all the zones is viable and they are still yearning for more. The issue of creation of states is to bring development and government closer to the people, but it should not be based on balancing. Creation of state is good, but what we are saying is that such a state must be viable and be able to stand on its own.

Thumps up to my brothers and sisters across the Niger! However, the Anioma people should wake up from their slumber and declare their Igboness to save them from the Nigeria manipulation. The new day for the Igbo will be the day that the leaders of: Ekpe, Ogba, Anioma, Ikwere and the rest of them will join hands with their brother like: Wawa, Abakaliki, Ngwa, Olu, Umunri, Nsukka, and so on, to fight and stop the on-going annihilation of our race by Nigeria due to man made disunity among us. The Igbo must join hands together, or we will all perish. It’s noteworthy that Igbo land extended all the way to Igbanke, the home of Samuel Ogbomudia; even though this assertion does not mean that Ogbomudia is Igbo or not; nevertheless, it’s out there in the public domain that Dr. Ogbomudia single handedly handed Igbanke to Edo state in other to make sure he stays in the same State with his mother who is of Benin origin.
PoliticsMassive Turnout Graces Anioma Cultural Festival by manchy7531(op): 1:24pm On Apr 16, 2012
By MCPHILIPS NWACHUKWU
The Anioma Cultural Festival has progressively become an upstage cultural event for the sons and daughters of the Anioma to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Anioma people within the nine Local Government Areas of Delta State, Nigeria.

The yearly cultural festival organised by the Organisation for the Advancement of Anioma Culture, OFAAC, the cultural umbrella body of Anioma people has become a rallying point of Anioma cultural revival and a veritable platform for community development.

The massive turnout at the 2012 edition held at the Arcade Ground Asaba on Easter Monday included monarchs; participating groups and dignitaries.

Interestingly the Anioma Festival is getting bigger, more entertaining and more encompassing with the infusion of new features yearly. This year’s festival had more than 98 dance performances simultaneously, providing wide choices for spectators.

Traditional wrestlers heightened the excitement. The different dance groups and associations, dressed in the best of Anioma attires with all the accoutrements of splendour and majesty, took the stage in a carnival like manner as they sang, danced, and paid homage to the custodians of Anioma traditional institutions.

The festival is Anioma’s biggest unifying cultural festival with hundreds of thousands of devoted participants drawn from traditional institutions, cultural groups, schools, decision-makers, corporate bodies and visitors enjoying live traditional dance and other Anioma performing arts.

Arc. Kester Ifeadi, President of OFAAC in his welcome address said, the 2012 festival theme, Anioma Unity and Sanctity with Nature was timely, as unity and cohesion among Anioma people cannot be over emphasised.

Ifeadi thanked those who kept faith with Anioma. He also commended the corporate sponsors.

The Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Victor Ochei said unity was the only way forward for Anioma people generally. According to him, “the yearly event has continued to expand because of the genuine efforts and commitment of the OFAAC leadership and the desire of Anioma people to preserve and promote their heritage through the cultural festival.” He pledged his support for the objectives of the festival.

Among dignitaries that graced the occasion were Chief B.S.C Elue, former deputy governor Delta State; Evangelist Hon. Joan O. Mrakpor, member of Delta State House of Assembly; Chief Theodora Giwa Amu.

His Royal Majesty, Obi Chukwumalieze Victor, the Obi of Onicha- Ugbo in the opening prayers thanked God for members of OFAAC and the peaceful coexistence among the people. HRM Obi (Prof.) Chike Edozien, the Asagba of Asaba, who played host to over 46 monarchs and high chiefs at the event, applauded the great efforts of Arc. Ifeadi and the activities of OFAAC in Anioma land.

There was also a special performance from the Igbanke Dance Group from Edo State who came to identify with their kith and kin in Anioma land.

PoliticsACN Is A Party Of Liars, Blackmailers And Propagandists.-senator Rashidi Ladoja by manchy7531(op): 5:30pm On Apr 08, 2012
A former governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, has broken his silence and came down hard on the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), describing it as a party of liars, blackmailers and propagandists.

Ladoja spoke against the background of media reports credited to ACN, counseling him not to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and another which his mother, Alhaja Alimotu, also purportedly urged him not to reject PDP over the unjustifiable impeachment he experienced as a governor.

The report carried by some dailies on Wednesday quoted an unnamed family source as having said 70 per cent of Ladoja’s loyalists had vowed not to return to the PDP with him should he decide to rejoin the party.

But debunking the report in a statement signed by his media aide, Alhaji Lanre Latinwo, and made available to journalists in Ibadan, Ladoja said the report, which he described as a complete lie spunned to denigrate his personality, had shown that ACN was frightened by the visit of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to his residence in Ibadan, on Monday.

Ladoja explained that his mother had, on no account, dabbled into his political affairs, adding that the woman did not also speak with any journalist or anyone on any issue that had to do with politics.

Ladoja said that the decision to return to the PDP or not would be determined by stakeholders in the Accord Party and not by “outsiders,” warning those he called mischief-makers and rumour mongers to steer clear of his family.

The release accused ACN of responsibility for the report and warned the party that “this rubbish must stop,” adding that the aim of the authors of the report had failed on arrival.

“Mama Ladoja did not speak to any press man on or before yesterday (Tuesday) on any issue relating to her son’s political career. Mama never spoke with anybody. It is a lie. Senator Ladoja has spoken with his mother. If anybody is interested in seeing Mama, she is around and she never spoke with anybody or press.

“Mama has never dabbled into the political affairs of Senator Ladoja before. Why would she now start when the Ibadan high chief can take right decisions at the right time? Mama has the firm belief that God Almighty has been supporting his son in whatever decision he takes,” it stated.

PoliticsWho Owns N14 Billion Ikeja Shopping Mall, Others, PDP Querries Tinubu by manchy7531(op): 5:15pm On Apr 08, 2012
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has alleged that former Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu illegally acquired a N14 Billion Ikeja Shopping Mall.

The PDP also alleged that Tinubu stole from the coffers of the Lagos State Government during his tenure and used same proceed to acquire Oriental Hotels, Renaissance Hotel, Agindingbi, First Nation Airline, Vintage Publications, TV Continental and Radio Continental.

National Vice Chairman of the PDP, South West, Chief Segun Oni, in a statement said many other properties illegally acquired with proceeds from corruption are traceable to the former Lagos Governor.

“Instead of attacking President Jonathan, shouldn’t the ACN be explaining to the public, who owns the N14 Billion naira Ikeja Shopping Mall that was built on Lagos Secretariat land, who acquired the land at Ikosi, Ketu, Lagos, former campus Lagos State Polytechnic, who owns Oriental Hotel, Renaissance Hotel, Agindingbi, First Nation Airline, Vintage Publications (publishers of The Nation newspapers), TV Continental, Radio Continental, and so many other illegal and corrupt acquisitions?, Oni asked in the statement.
“The ACN should tell Nigerians how a man who was governor for eight years with fixed salary and allowances could have acquired so much money to buy almost everything in Lagos and stop insulting our sensibilities with nonsensical talks which are only aimed at covering up their non-performance and looting of treasuries in the States under their control.
“What Nigerians demand from them are explanations as to the reckless and obscene appropriation of properties belonging to Lagosians by Bola Tinubu and his stupendous wealth which is at the expense of tax payers in Lagos, Osun, Ekiti, Oyo and Ogun States, the PDP National Vice Chairman said.
Oni, who described the ACN as a congregation of political hypocrites said in the statement signed by his Media Aide, Mr. Lere Olayinka that; “it is the height of hypocrisy for a party, whose leader; Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu has converted all properties belonging to Lagos State to his personal use to attack the president, just because a contractor chose to invest in the propagation of the work of God by renovating a church in the president’s village instead of him (President Jonathan) collecting gratis from the contractors.”
Oni described the call by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) for the impeachment of President Goodluck Jonathan over renovation of a church building in his village by a contractor as not only satanic but irresponsible, saying; “the ACN people should first remove the beam in their eyes before looking at the specks in another person’s eyes.”

He said; “Would the ACN hypocrites have preferred that the said contractor handed the money used for the church renovation to President Jonathan as they would have done if they were the president? Or that the contractor should have doled out the money to Tinubu as part of his birthday largesse as done by ACN governors in the Southwest?

“For instance, when I was governor of Ekiti, I rejected gratis from contractors and the contractors are still alive. Instead, I told them to use the money for charity and they decided to buy vehicles for Schools for the Handicaps in the State. They bought the vehicles, donated them as ‘Friends of Segun Oni’ and as at today, the buses are still being used by the schools.

“I think the problem with these ACN people is that they think they are above everyone, including God. That is why they could come up with such satanic position just because a company performed its social responsibility by helping to promote the work of God.

“One then begins to wonder why the ACN people hate God and members of the Anglican Communion this much.”

“For instance, in Ekiti State, whenever they are faced with questions as to their failure to deliver the Eldorado that they promised the people, they will quickly come up with allegations of corruption against my person. But for over 17 months, it has been treats and no action and as at today, they are still searching their books.

PoliticsPDP Bot Chair: Nnamani, Ali Emerge Contenders by manchy7531(op): 3:08pm On Apr 07, 2012
– The move to find a suitable leader to succeed former President Olus-egun Obasanjo who resigned last Monday as chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has begun.

Members of the board have commenced a search for a credible replacement, THISDAY has learnt.

It was gathered that the names of the former Senate President, Chief Ken Nnamani from Enugu State in the South-east; former chairman of the party, Dr. Ahmadu Ali from the North-central state of Kogi, and former works minister, Chief Anthony Anenih from Edo State in the South-south top a shortlist of names that may replace Obasanjo.

The controversial clause in the PDP constitution that reserved the chairmanship of BoT to former president produced by the party, and which made Obasanjo the only eligible candidate, was removed during the constitution amendment carried out by the party in 2009.

Following the amendment, members of the board are: all past and serving Presidents and Vice-Presidents of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who held or hold the respective posts as members of the party and who are still members of the party; past and serving National Chairmen, Deputy National Chairmen and National Secretaries of the party, who are still members of the party; all past and serving Presidents of the Senate and Speakers of the House of Representatives who are still members of the party; all founding fathers.

Other are founding mothers of the party; two women selected from each of the six geo-political zones; three members at least one of whom shall be a woman from each of the six geo-political zones, and person(s) not exceeding six, who have contributed immensely to the growth of the party and found suitable by the board. According to the party’s constitution, the membership of the Board of Trustees shall reflect the Federal character of Nigeria.

Members of the board are to elect a replacement from among them.
In Article12.81, the PDP constitution states that with respects to qualification for BoT chairman and secretary, the body shall “without prejudice to the provision of this constitution, ensures that the person to be elected Chairman and Secretary respectively are of proven integrity and have contributed immensely to the growth of the party”.

It is in keeping with this provision that some members of the board who spoke to THISDAY last night are rooting for Nnamani as the next BoT chairman if the office is eventually zoned to the South-east.

A party source said the South-east is better placed to produce Obasanjo’s successor, arguing that the South-west has already produced the National Secretary and the North-east, the National Chair-man.

Also, the South-south has produced the President while the North-west has produced both the Vice-President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, though the three offices are not party positions but they are normally factored in, in the distribution of top positions in PDP.

The Secretary of BoT, Senator Walid Jubrin, has already disclosed that the next chairman of the board would be chosen through consensus.

Those rooting for Nnamani said his role as Senate President alluded to how he helped scuttle the third term agenda of former President Obasanjo as a plus for his candidacy.

A former minister who spoke with THISDAY said: “Though the election of the chairman of the board is an internal affair of the body, but certain factors must be taken into consideration before the election.

“If the office is eventually zoned to the South-east, then the most eminently qualified is Senator Ken Nnamani because of the way and manner he handled the third term ambition of former President Obasanjo. The maturity with which he managed it stands him clearly out as the best to lead the board in this time of reformation in PDP,” the source said.

But if the office is zoned to the North-central, Ahmadu Ali may bag the job, though the zone also has a former chairman of the party in Senator Barnabbas Gemade.

Anenih was outmaneuvered by Obasanjo in the struggle for BoT chairmanship in 2008.
The fact that President Jonathan also hails from the same South-south with him may weaken his chances in the extant race.

i sense some sell out politicians in the south east are already being used to destabilize the south east position in 2015, but the good news is that, political awareness in the east is fast growing at the speed of light and whatever UPGA or whatever they call themselves is planning, APGA belongs to us the IGBOS and this time APGA will stand its grounds in 2015 and also spread to neighboring states.so UPGA will just be dreaming and probably die a natural death or maybe can find a place in the South west and probably take over Lagos from ACN.
