President of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, has called for the introduction of anti-corruption teaching in schools.
Lawan gave the suggestion in Abuja on Tuesday while declaring open the third EFCC National Capacity Building Workshop for Justices and Judges in collaboration with the National Judicial Institute.
He said, “We should start educating our children in schools, basic education secondary level and even tertiary level, on the ills of corruption in any society.
“Therefore, it is a task that requires that we review the current curricula of our basic education particularly to include something like what corruption means, the ills and the responsibility on every citizen to be part and parcel of the fight against this scourge.”
Lawan who reassured the EFCC and ICPC of total support from the senate in the fight against corruption, also pointed out the need for the police to be involved with the fight against corruption.http://saharareporters.com/2019/10/23/senate-president-proposes-inclusion-anti-corruption-teaching-school-curriculum?fbclid

PoliticsSenate Queries Allocation Of N600m To Discos In 2020 Budget by ManirBK(op): 9:56am On Oct 23, 2019
The Senate yesterday questioned the N600m allocated to the electricity distribution companies (Discos) by the Ministry of Power in the 2020 budget estimates.
Chairman, Senate Committee on Power, Gabriel Suswan, said the government should instead inject the money into Mambila Hydro Power Project to stabilise power supply.

A member of the committee, Senator Yusuf Yusuf, demanded speedy execution of the Mambila power project.

However, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, Louis Edozien, justified the inclusion of N600 million in the 2020 budget for Discos.
He said it was part of the agreement the ministry had with them.https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/senate-queries-allocation-of-n600m-to-discos-in-2020-budget.html?

I also learnt recently that there is no plastic production factory in about 7-10 countries in West Africa, all of them depends on importation from Nigeria. What we need to do is to commend the FG for starting this one now for it is better started than never. Many governments have come and gone without reasoning in this direction. Mynd44

People that are good at talking down on our little progress should relocate or show us their individual and meaningful contribution to the progress of this country or shut up for the rest of their lives

An indigenous firm has commenced the production of pencils in the country using old newspapers.
Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu said the firm has capacity to produce 2.4million dozens of pencils per annum which will surpass local and sub-regional needs.

Speaking yesterday in Abuja when he received a local pencil production company Bamib Resources & Investments Company Ltd on a courtesy visit, he said: “We commend you for the work you have done in the best interest of our nation. When I went to one of our agencies in Enugu, I found out that they were conducting research on pencils and I was very disturbed when they informed me that as of that time, there was no company in Nigeria producing pencils. There were companies before that produced pencils but they have all collapsed, so I was very concerned. As the minister of science and technology, I felt that something like pencil which both the young and old use, looks very simple, so I felt that a country like Nigeria should be able to produce all the pencils we need and I had to make the institute in Enugu to make sure they continued with that research.
“We gave them about two years, I was not just interested in just producing pencils for the sake of it but one that we can say that all the raw materials are from Nigeria which will help us in job creation, creating wealth and moving a lot of people out of poverty, I am happy that BRPDA has made some progress, they are working on seeing that all the inputs come from Nigeria, the Akwa Ibom state government also has a company producing pencils bit we are happy that on you own, you are taking the decision.https://thenationonlineng.net/pencil-production-begins-in-nigeria/?

PoliticsSenate Rejects Ministry Of Niger Delta’s Budget by ManirBK(op): 7:44pm On Oct 21, 2019
The Senate Committee on Niger Delta Monday rejected the 2020 Budget of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, for omitting major ongoing projects in its Capital Appropriation.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, however asked the committee to appear before the panel next Monday to show how far they have reflected the Ministry’s budget.

Senator Nwaoboshi gave the directive during a budget defence session of the ministry in Abuja.
The Senator representing Delta North insisted that with the oversight function carried out in the ministry, it was realised that the bane of the ministry was abandoned projects littered all over the nine states.

He said: “There is no state; I dare to say that there is no local government where there are no abandoned projects in the Niger Delta.

“We cannot continue like that. With all the abandoned projects in the Niger Delta and we are talking about new projects; these new projects are designed to fail.

“Honourable Minister, we need to look at this budget again and we expect you to do your cleanup because the document we needed were not supplied to us.”

He warned that the habit were “we have proliferation of abandoned projects cannot continue.”

According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari has not commissioned any completed project executed by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs in the last four years.

In his contribution, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe noted that the Ministry’s budget is an “uncommon budget.”

“When a budget is designed to fail it is uncommon,” Abaribe said.

PoliticsRe: IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu Blames FG For Mum’s Death by ManirBK(op): 8:56am On Oct 21, 2019
This is a very big warning for those following the boy.
In his statement, he said he sacrificed his mother for the struggle yet he is accusing the Federal Government for being the cause of the death.
You and your mother are fighting the same cause, a time came for sacrifice, instead of using yourself as an example you used your mother.
Does that shows you are a good leader?
No wonder he has been sacrificing innocent youths while he keeps running from one country to another.
Judgment day is coming.

IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu’s mum dies
Ugoeze Sally Meme Kanu, mother of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu is dead.
Kanu, who announced the mother’s death on Sunday, said she died August 30, 2019 in Germany after doctors battled unsuccessfully over a protracted illness she suffered.
The freedom fighter linked federal government to the death, citing alleged soldiers’ invasion of his Umuahia, Abia State residence in September 2017.
He said: “Watching her children being hunted and killed by the federal government was the cause of her illness, and today we have lost her.”

He however pledged not to be deterred by the death in his struggle for the actualization of Biafra republic.
“I had said before that I was ready to sacrifice anything for Biafra, and today I have sacrificed my mum. We will not be dettered, we shall continue to fight for the freedom of our people.”
The IPOB leader, who disclosed his mum died long before his visit to the UN and several other engagements, described such resilience as a demonstration that the loss of his mother has not dampened his spirit.
He was however silent on the burial arrangements as well as reasons behind the belated announcement.https://thenationonlineng.net/ipob-leader-nnamdi-kanu-blames-fg-for-mums-death/?

PoliticsChild Theft: Buhari Commends Police For Discovering False Correctional Centres by ManirBK(op): 7:38pm On Oct 19, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the Nigeria Police Force for the discovery of a child-theft racket in Kano State and fake correctional centers in Kaduna and Katsina states.
The president, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Saturday, urged the police to sustain these good efforts across the country.

President Buhari, who was reacting to the incidents and arrests made by the police concerning the incidents, noted that such arrests were in line with his commitment to human rights and dignity of the citizens regardless of their age, religion and ethnicity.

He said he would not support criminality under any guise, including the abduction of children and selling them off illegally.
On torture chambers, in this day and age, the president maintained that no responsible democratic government would tolerate the existence of the torture chambers and physical abuses of inmates in the name of rehabilitation of the victims.
He, therefore, lauded the efforts of the police in exposing these human rights abuses by individuals and criminal groups.
He expressed optimism that these efforts would be sustained to check illegal activities of this nature.
The President appealed to members of the general public to remain vigilant and assist security agencies in crime prevention and control by reporting the existence of criminal activities around their communities.
He said: ”The sharing of human intelligence is everybody’s responsibility in order to make our society safe and this government is ever committed to supporting the police to be more effective in the performance of its duties through proper funding and motivation of its personnel.”(NAN)
