Authortee:If African countries and "smugglers" are crying, then Nigeria has started doing something right. Those wailing should do clean businesses and stop cutting corners |
ziegurf:Hope you have not been doing illegal business before now? |
Honestly, may those borders remain closed! We want to move forward too. We want to grow our economy. We may face hardship but it will all become a history after a year or two. |
If you have goods fly them in legally If you have your money, seeks for treatment anywhere in the world but as for our Dear border, let it remain closed. |
An assistant professor of Strategy and International Business at the University of Bath, United Kingdom, Tahiru Azaaviele Leidong, has said that recent moves by President Muhammadu Buhari to partially close Nigeria’s border with Benin in an effort to stem the smuggling of rice, raises serious concerns, SABC reports. Leidong said even though closure of border is not new in Africa, Nigeria's actions raise important concerns about the seriousness and prospects of regional integration in Africa. He said, “African countries have different economic configurations and strategic priorities. “The huge number of diverse countries within the free trade area isn’t going to make things easy. “Indeed, free trade has its benefits but it also has costs. Nigeria’s bid to protect a declining rice farming industry and save foreign exchange has led to protectionism that defies the principles of a free trade area. “The African Union has been muted on the issue of the border closures. This might be because it does not yet have detailed institutional arrangements for settling disputes within the free trade area. “Another factor might be that it has been quiet because Nigeria is involved. “As Africa’s largest economy, the AU courted it earnestly to sign. The agreement needs Nigeria, arguably at whatever cost. “The regional trade bloc ECOWAS has also failed to bring Nigeria to heel. “Both Nigeria and Benin are members of the bloc, created in 1975. All it has done so far is to appeal for the borders to be opened. It clearly has no enforcement power. “Nigeria’s border closure may be a precursor. More incidents like this can be expected as the realities of free trade kick in. Some countries will lose, others will gain. “The AU needs protocols and measures to manage free trade, as well as programmes to prepare political leaders for the realities that will follow. “The free trade area should not be a mere symbol. It must be fully understood and appreciated for it to succeed. “The Nigeria border closure must be resolved as soon as possible. “It is diverting attention and positive energy from matters that can promote the free trade area, such as investments in transport infrastructure, trade data capture and border protection. “More importantly, it is a bad precedent that could reduce other countries’ commitments to economic integration in Africa. The AU must act now, or prepare to bury the free trade deal.” http://saharareporters.com/2019/10/28/nigeria%E2%80%99s-border-closure-has-implications-africa%E2%80%99s-economic-integration-%E2%80%93analyst? Religion is causing havoc in this country oo!!! |
The Zamfara State Police Command says it has launched an investigation into claims that some people are converting Muslims to Christians in Zamfara State. The command's spokesman, Mohammed Shehu, said in a statement on Sunday, "The Zamfara State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that, following an audio clip being in circulation on various social media platforms in which the audio maker who also claimed to be a victim alleged the emergence of a group of men and women whose activities was to stop people, greet them in a Muslim way of greeting especially those who they perceived to be Muslims and then introduce themselves as staff of a company and the products. "Later, they will issue a leaflet containing their address to the person and collect his phone number for them to remind the person of the seminar on their business which they normally conduct for those who join newly. The strategy according to the audio maker was to convert the Muslims faithful into Christianity. "On getting the audio clip, the police command under the leadership of CP Usman Nagogo swung into action by commencing a discreet investigation into the matter with a view to authenticate the audio clip and take proactive/ appropriate action that will prevent the unwarranted religious crises in the state." He added, The investigation carried out so far by the police and other security agencies including the undercover agency has not revealed such happening in any part of Zamfara state. "What the investigation gathered was the existence of a company branch named NEOLIFE a global company that deals with food supplements. The company has branches across the country with about one hundred members in the state that cut across the religious lines with two training centres located at Hayin Buba and along bypass road, Gusau. "They normally go round as a marketing strategy to look for customers. However, an investigation is in progress, the command calls on the audio maker and any person or group who has facts or evidences to come to the police command Headquarters so as to assist the police in the investigation.http://saharareporters.com/2019/10/28/police-investigate-audio-clip-claiming-muslims-being-converted-christians-zamfara? An indigenous textile trading company based in Kano, Mudassir & Brothers has commenced processes to establish a textile manufacturing company worth over $50 million in Kano. At a media briefing at the weekend, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the company, Alhaji Mudassir Idris Abubakar, said the decision of the company to expand is to complement President Buhari’s policy of encouraging local production of qualitative goods with a view to creating wealth and job opportunities for the nation’s youths. He said Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has already approved the allocation of 22.5 hectares of land for the establishment of the company which will provide over 10,000 jobs for Nigerians. “I would like to thank Mr President for his unwavering resolve to boost the economy through encouraging local production of goods. I would also like to thank Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for his commitment towards ensuring that Kano takes its former position of the best textile manufacturing state,’’ he said. He noted that textile manufacturing is a capital intensive project, especially with the competition from China, and called on the federal government to fulfil its promise of supporting local manufacturers. The chairman also called on the Central Bank of Nigeria to reconsider its position of freezing the company.https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/50m-textile-coy-to-be-established-in-kano.html? iAudio:The story is unprofessional.they said he was drowned and died in a river, but they didn't tell people what actually happened. Did he really drown as suspected or just run away to Toro, instead and couldn't go back to his family because of his mental retardation? |
It's quite strange. No matter where you go, remember the road that will lead you home. But Nice as he is found not dead and healthy |
I don't want to start laughing out the little food in my stomach, haba! How can a man be drowned for 30yrs, and come back alive? He must have passed through the Atlantic oceans to pacific ocean down to the Mediterranean sea making friends with sharks and whales before finally swim down to Bauchi river head bridge where His family found him. The government is paying every kobo for the government run Universities. As such you have no right to oppose what they put in place to check your system of irregularities, period. No more chuwachuwa, one work one salary account. I must commend the FG on this program. |
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has given reasons why it rejected the plan by the Federal Government to enrol university workers into IPPIS, saying it violated university autonomy. The ASUU Coordinator in Lagos zone, Prof. Olusiji Sowande, who stated this at a press conference held at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, on Thursday, said that the policy was not acceptable to the union. Mr Sowande noted that it was important for the Federal Government to consider the peculiarities of the universities and their enabling laws before such decisions could be made. He added that universities operated differently from the civil service and should, therefore, not be seen as appendages of ministries, departments and agencies of government. “In addition to the Act establishing each university, there is the Universities Miscellaneous Provisions (Amendment) Act, 2003. “The Act states in Section 2(A) that the power of the council shall be exercised as in the laws and statutes of each university and to that extent, the establishment circulars that are inconsistent with the laws and statutes of the university shall not apply to the university. “IPPIS will not recognise nor adequately capture the flexibility and peculiarities of the university system in terms of replacement/recruitment of staff,” he said. Mr Sowande explained that ASUU believed that President Muhammadu Buhari would not violate his oath of office, but would rather abide by the constitution and the law of the land. He added that the union was not opposed to accountability and transparency in handling public funds.https://dailynigerian.com/why-were-against-nigerian-govts-ippis-by-ASUU/? This is fabulous , very impressive and a clear indication of enhancement to succeed . What is also significant most of all , is for a common man to feel the impact of this report . Bravo ! |
President Muhammadu Buhari has voiced happiness over the World Bank’s 2020 Doing Business Index(DBI) which ranked Nigeria 131 out of 190 countries, up 15 places from 146th position last year. The report, which was released on Thursday, also named Nigeria one of the top 10 most improved economies in the world for the second time in three years. President Buhari, who welcomed the announcement in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Femi Adesina, said the movement of 15 places to 131 as well as the recognition being given to Nigeria as one of the top 10 most improved countries that had implemented the most reforms this year was significant. The president said the recognition was important because the country had not even been able to achieve some of the key reforms it had pursued so far. He said the validation confirmed that “our strategy is working”, adding that “we will continue to push even harder to deliver more impactful reforms.” The president said “the announcement by the World Bank indicates that our mandate to move into the top 70 doing business destinations by 2023 remains achievable” with the impending ratification of the Companies and Allied Matters Bill and the introduction of the Business Facilitation (Omnibus) Bill, 2019 in view, along with other pending and ongoing regulatory, judicial and sub-national reforms. Nigeria is one of only two African countries to make this highly prestigious list. With this year’s leap, Nigeria has improved an aggregate of 39 places in the World Bank Doing Business index since 2016.https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/buhari-voices-delight-at-world-bank-ease-of-doing-business-ranking.html? Guestlander:I think it should be included in the Senate and house of reps |
psucc:It will be of no use, because they and their children are the ones ought to be taught on the effect of corruption. Why because they are the ones working in these agencies that deals with money. So sad their children are not studying here in Nigeria's own secondary schools. They take them abroad to study there, right from secondary school up to the higher institutions. |
you don't teach people on anti-
corruption & expect corruption
to stop rather you create
systems/laws and authorities
that automatically eliminate
compromise, corrupt tendencies
& eschew justice. Nigeria are
corrupt today majorly because
the system had made it
so.majority of we the youths
grew up in societies where
families use corruption to
survive, we grew to percieve the
police & Nepa as corrupt, alot of
youths today grew through the
ranks via exam malpractice
which has been modified,
standardized & even most is
aided by parents and everyone
now sees it as normal all this are
system failures & until deliberate
efforts are made to creates
systems that can fight corruption
in terms of technology, justice,
good governance & insecurity no
teaching on anti-corruption that
will work, what is the difference
between one studying
accounting in school and he or
she will still come to the
government & misapproprate
funds ? what is the difference
between a lawyer who knows
the truth of law but still lies? |
Please, the teaching will be more efficient, effective if you guys show the example from your various home. No curriculum can change the orientation that is played out in our public domain, however you have a fundamental right to have an opinion. |
The senate should start the teaching of corruption by first eradicating corruption in the Legislature, Executive and Judiciary by making established and proven without doubt and political affiliation corruption issues a capital offense punishable by death without any option of fine. It should start from the leaders before it's taken to the schools and society in general. |
It will be of no use, because they and their children are the ones ought to be taught on the effect of corruption. Why because they are the ones working in these agencies that deals with money. So sad their children are not studying there in Nigeria's own secondary schools. They take them abroad to study there, right from secondary school up to the higher institutions. |
