Five suspects including an official of Usmanu Danfodio University Teaching Hospital Sokoto (UDUTH) have been arrested by the State Security Service (SSS) over alleged sale of three children abducted from Zuru in Kebbi. Governor Atiku Bagudu, who handed over the three children to their parents on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi, named the suspects as Comfort Nwankwo of UDUTH, Dorothy Okonkwo, Uchenna Benedict, Helen Samuel and “one Moses who lives in Zuru”. He said the three children, including a set of twins, were sold in Anambra in connivance with Ms Nwankwo and Moses. Mr Bagudu commended the security operatives for tracking and rescuing the children and assured that the suspects would be prosecuted. He urged parents to be vigilant and monitor their children to prevent them from falling victims of abductors. Yusuf Umar and Rabi Kabiru, parents of the abducted children, commended the governor, vigilantes and security agents for the action.https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/more-news/361979-sss-arrests-university-worker-others-for-alleged-kidnap.html? Good development pls they should include the officers that aided the smugglers for better trial |
The Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Col. Hameed Ali (rtd) has reiterated his call to government to set up special courts to prosecute smugglers, currency traffickers and other criminals. Ali made the clamour at the 17th Special Town Hall Meeting held in Abuja this week. The Customs head lamented that the regular courts were making it impossible to prosecute smugglers and other criminals along the country’s borders. He asked government to consider the request which was tabled four years ago, saying that the prosecution of these criminals would serve as deterrent to others in line with government anti-corruption crusade. However, the representative of the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abiodun Ayodeji, differed with Ali’s position. Ayodeji, who is the SA on Financial Crimes to the AGF, Abubakar Malami, said he objected because courts were creation of the Constitution, while setting up special courts entail lots of implications. But the Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, insisted that there was no need for constitutional amendment to create special courts. Owasanoye submitted that the National Assembly had the power to create new courts without amending the constitution. He also noted that constitutional amendment in the country was a nightmare and may never see the light of the day. “The Special Court Bill has been with the National Assembly and I urge them to take forward that Bill. Things that are affecting us- kidnaping, terrorism, human trafficking, torture and corruption-require special courts. Other courts have dealt with special courts, Nigeria should also do it,” Owasanoye said https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2019/11/09/customs-comptroller-general-asks-fg-to-create-special-courts-for-smugglers/? The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has sent a message to Nigerian officials who stole from the country’s coffers that anywhere they are in the world, the law would meet up with them. He sent the message at the 2019 Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit with the theme “Leveraging Diaspora Resources for Economic Growth“ on Wednesday in Abuja. “It is no longer going to be business as usual; if you steal money here and go and hide it there, we will follow you there without any protocol and bring you back,” he said. He said the commission would protect the investments made by Nigerians in Diaspora in the country. Mr Magu said that the EFCC mandate was designed to encourage investors, most especially the foreigner, to find Nigeria as an attractive investment haven. “I want to assure all Nigerians in Diaspora that we will do everything possible to protect your investments. “There are lots of Nigerian professionals abroad who have done lots of good things and earned legitimate incomes who want to come home and invest and we have made it a kind of very special issue. “Right now we are working on ECOWAS level on how we can partner with all law enforcement agencies in ECOWAS Countries. “We are going to adopt a protocol; the protocol will be presented before the Heads of State maybe around February 2020 it will be adopted.https://dailynigerian.com/we-will-get-you-anywhere-you-are-magu-tells-nigerian-looters-who-fled-abroad/? Google has launched a new Traffic tab in Google Maps in Lagos. The Traffic tab provides bus riders with information to help them find their most efficient route, both in travel time and transport costs. Until now, Google Maps users have only been able to access information for other forms of transportation including cars, two-wheelers, BRT and ride hailing. The Traffic tab however, includes a new directions experience, which features suggested routes which may combine walking, taking a keke (marwa) or okada, danfo or BRT; information about the estimated fare range; expected travel time while pictures of the stops along the route are now available to aid travellers on their trips around Lagos. According to Senior Product Manager, Google Maps, Jeff Albertson, clicking on the pictures will allow users to get a 360 degree view on ‘Street View’ to help them better understand their location. “What we have built for Lagos is a global first for Google Maps, and a step towards helping people in many other cities where transport can be informally organized as it is in Nigeria. We co-designed this product with people in Lagos. It was an engaging process to start from scratch, bring diverse teams of Googlers to Lagos, interview Lagosians and local guides, understand local needs, and then design something that weaves together all the many ways that people here move around,” he said. The launch of the new Traffic tab, he said, followed the introduction of a dedicated travel mode in Google Maps in July, to provide directions and navigation for motorcycles in Nigeria. “Google also launched navigation guidance in a Nigerian voice for both motorcycle and car driving modes at the same time,” he said. “Google recently published more panoramic imagery on Street View, to help make it easier to visually explore places in Nigeria, including imagery of Abuja, Benin City, Enugu and Ibadan with almost 12,000 kilometers of roads added. “Nigeria is important to us and beyond providing tools to help Nigerians use Maps, we also want to continue to bring more of Nigeria to the map,” Jeff assured.https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/breaking-google-launches-new-traffic-tab-for-lagos.html? SarkinYarki:Enemy of success, continue wailing Buhari remain our president till 2023! https://www.nairaland.com/4260833/presidency-lists-17-major-achievements?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C4170956892 |
Buhari's achievement cannot be challenged, he has really performed very well. |
Our president, more healthy years to your leadership. Na GOD put you there for us to witness the Nextlevel developments |
President Muhammadu Buhari has named the poor attitude of health workers across Nigeria as a major reason for the growing culture of Nigerians seeking medical care outside the country. The president stated this Tuesday at the second National Health Summit of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and the 25th Triennial Conference of the Commonwealth Medical Association (CMA). The summit is being held between November 4 and 8 in Abuja. Mr Buhari who is currently in the UK for a two-week ‘private visit’was the special guest billed to declare the event open. He was, however, represented by the health minister, Osagie Ehanire. Superintending broken system The minister said many Nigerians have lost confidence in the country’s health system because of the poor service delivery in Nigerian hospitals. “If we must be honest to ourselves, we must admit that even more than lack of equipment and medical technical expertise, poor housekeeping and sanitation and often poor and disrespectful attitude of health workers and also a perceived lack of confidentiality are damaging the image and reputation of the health system and also the public confidence in it,” the official explained. “There is no doubt that this loss of confidence in our hospitals is the father of medical tourism,” he noted. The minister said only a change of mindset can reverse the trend. Medical Tourism “Why is Nigeria losing billions of naira to medical tourism?” asked former Nigerian head of state, Yakubu Gowon, in his opening remark as the chairman of the summit. Thousands of Nigerians travel abroad each year to seek medical treatment as the nation’s health care system remains dogged with multiple challenges. Former Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, had in 2017 estimated that Nigeria was losing N175 billion annually to medical tourism. Also in 2017, PREMIUM TIMES reportedhow South Africa’s Health Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, scolded African leaders seeking medical care away from the continent, saying the culture has become a major drain on their countries $ health expenditure.https://www.premiumtimesng.com/health/health-news/361205-buhari-why-nigerians-seek-medical-care-abroad.html? Roughly three years ago, President Muhammadu Buhari visited the Kingdom of Morocco. He asked King Mohammed VI to give Nigeria from their rich phosphate mineral so that fertilizer can be produced here at home for the teeming farming population. Agreement reached, President Buhari set up a Presidential Fertiliser Initiative in his office. Three years down the road, 24 moribund blending plans are now working, providing 100,000 direct and indirect new jobs to Nigerians. The cost of fertilizer is down by more than 50 percent. Nigeria makes a saving of USD 200 million used for its annual import and a further N60 billion in budgeted annual subsidy. Nigeria wanted to build a power plant at Mambilla in the Northeast. The plant design had been made in 1959, a year before independence. We have dreams of modernizing our railway system because, without power and railroad, National development will continue to be a pipe dream. In planning for his trip to Beijing for a meeting with President Xi Jinping, President Buhari rightfully chose to prioritize his requests, put Lagos-Kano railway and Mambilla power plant on top: President Xi’s word is the silver bullet. Today, China is giving these projects together with the finance and many more. On the recent trip to Russia, President Buhari had a wish list that included railways, power projects and military procurements. He had a wish to get the Russians who own the Aluminum smelter plant, built at a whopping USD 4 billion to operationalize it; Ajaokuta Steel plant built at a similar cost, with 20,000 engineers trained to operate it, many of whom are now dead from hunger and lack of engagement is another 40 year – old problem. To these and others, President Putin held the keys to the solutions. President Buhari asked, and he was given. It will take volumes of books to document the achievements of these trips. When I go through the media, including today’s edition of the Daily Trust, the social media blogs and those jokes, through funny cartoons, there is a mistaken sense that active diplomacy is the cause of some kind of governance deficit, assuming there is any. Channels Television, last night confronted me with a litany of countries the President visited this year and the number of days he spent abroad. The mistaken opinion among many is that the President spends too much time abroad and this is affecting his domestic responsibilities. The reality is very different. The success of the visits to Morocco, China and Russia reported here represent just a fraction of the achievements recorded. Many countries and major corporations have listened to our leaders and agreed to come here and put their money in the economy in win-win deals. In the last few years, global giants like Siemens, Toyota, Hyundai, General Electric (GE), among others are talking to Nigeria about their commitment to investing billions of dollars through manufacturing and other forms of Foreign Direct Investment. Add these to the many Chinese companies that are involved with us in the construction of railways, roads, airports and power plants. These Chinese engagements are coming, complete with succession plans in which thousands of Nigerians are being trained over there, to ultimately manage the new projects. Other global giants are talking to the government at the centre and the States, with declared interests in projects like highways, metro rail networks, roads, railways and investment in the clusters of manufacturing hubs, the Special Economic Zones, in each of the geopolitical zones. In the coming years, the Qatari and Saudi sovereign wealth funds, the Russians and the Americans amongst the world’s richest are working with Nigeria towards investments in oil and gas and other infrastructure. President Buhari’s strategy of selling Nigeria’s infrastructure priorities to countries with economic clout is paying off handsomely is in reality, doing Nigeria proud by tackling the gaps in infrastructure deficit. The records of some of his predecessors in office bespeak a greedy trail, when they go abroad they first ask: what is in it for me? What is there for my family? President Buhari is different. Understood correctly, he is an opportunity manager who knows the worth of person to person contact in a working relationship. https://dailynigerian.com/buharis-frequency-of-foreign-trips-a-big-plus-not-a-problem-by-garba-shehu/?
