The Central Bank of Nigeria has said the country attracted $6 billion foreign investments in the first three months of the year. Speaking with journalists at the end of the Bankers Committee meeting in Lagos, yesterday, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Director, Banking Supervision, Ahmad Abdullahi noted that confidence in the economy by both local and foreign investors has been on the rise despite the elections. He said the committee noted that despite the numerous headwinds in the economy, “lending to the private sector and the economy generally has increased and that is very positive news. “The confidence by foreign investors has also increased. For instance between January and March despite the election, up to $6 billion came in and that is positive news.” The Bankers Committee also disclosed that it will be setting aside N200 billion for cash crop promotion in the country and would commence disbursement of funds for the creative sector this month. To this end, he said the committee decided to consolidate on the gains made so far and continue with the initiatives such as import substitution programme, the Anchor Borrowers Programme, and some other initiatives of both the CBN and the Bankers Committee. On his part, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive of United Bank for Africa (UBA), Kennedy Uzoka, noted that the Bankers Committee will be setting aside not less than N200 billion that will be given at single digit for up to 10 years span to farmers and value chain operators in the cash crop industry. He, however, stated that the committee believes that the country has not made much progress in its drive to diversify the economy away from oil.https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/nigeria-attracted-6bn-fdi-in-3-months-cbn.html Fod puskin naijacutee MrKnowitall dominique Mynd44 |

A Nigerian woman has been executed by the Saudi Arabian government after she was convicted of drug trafficking by the ultra-conservative state. She was executed alongside three others. Saudi's interior ministry disclosed that the woman was executed on Monday, April 1, 2019 alongside two Pakistani men and one Yemeni man. Their executions in Mecca bring the total number of people killed this year to 53, according to official data released by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA). Saudi operates a very strict form of Islamic law and regularly dishes out death sentences for crimes such as homicide, rape, and armed robbery, facing several backlash from human rights organisations.https://www.pulse.ng/news/local/saudi-arabia-kills-nigerian-woman-for-drug-trafficking/nj5d1bm? https://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-africa-47770112? GOOD DEVELOPMENT. OUR FUTURE PRESIDENT OSINBANJO/ELRUFAI NEXT LEVEL 2023 CONNECTION. LIKE FOR THEM ABEG |
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday said the federal government feeds public school pupils with 594 cattle, 138,000 chickens, 6.8million eggs and 83 metric tons of fish on a weekly basis. Professor Osinbajo disclosed this while delivering a lecture titled ‘Nigeria Rising: The Path to Prosperity’ at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) 50th convocation. He said that at a cost of $0.19 per child per day, the FG is able to provide a balanced meal for every one of the 9,300,892 pupils in 49,837 public primary schools in 26 states across Nigeria. The programme, according to him, employs 95,422 cooks and over 100,000 small holder farmers linked to the programme supplying locally sourced ingredients. “As you can imagine, the quantity of starch and vegetables required for this programme on a weekly basis is equally impressive. Dietary energy and nutrients with established links to cognition-carbohydrates, protein, fat, iron and iodine as well as minerals with public health importance – are targeted by the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSF). “The programme aims to provide 50% of the recommended nutrient intake targets for protein and prioritized micro-nutrients including iron, iodine, zinc, vitamin A, folate and vitamin C and 30% of energy because of the high burden of under-nutrition and micro-nutrient deficiencies in Nigeria. “There is also a de-worming programme attached to the school feeding programme,” he explained. He further noted that by the end of the year, the number of new states joining the school feeding programme will increase as the NHGSFP is set to become the largest school feeding programme in Africa. The FG, according to Osinbajo, took the decision to embark on a School Feeding Programme as an important part of its human capital development agenda, by tackling the broader issues of eradication of poverty, food and nutrition security as well as increasing school enrolment. He therefore stressed that prosperity will be attained if Nigeria is able to address the issues of extreme poverty, productivity, corruption, the rule of law and the deficiencies in the quality of human resources caused by poor education and healthcare.https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/fg-feeds-pupils-with-594-cattle-138000-chickens-6-8m-eggs-weekly-osinbajo.html? Mr Issa Aremu, General Secretary, National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari on the launched of the Micro Pension Plan (MPP) for retired self- employed workers in the informal sector of the economy. Aremu said this in a statement on Friday and made available to newsmen in Abuja. President Muhammadu Buhari on March 28th launched the Micro Pension Plan (MPP) which automatically extends retirement benefits to millions of self- employed workers in the informal sector. According to him, the President’s stamp will definitely legitimise the Contributory pension scheme in both formal and informal sectors. Ad ”If implemented, pension coverage will be more inclusive to include millions of self- employed who for now are not assured of life after work no less they are assured of life during work due to income inadequacy. “There will be sustainable investable funds for socio- economic development. So far, with as many as 8.5 million formal sector workers covered, as much as N8.7 trillion pension assets have been accumulated. Ad “With potential 80 million workforces, the potential for accumulated workers’ capital is better imagined. Micro pension is certainly a sustainable measure against mass income poverty that has pushed workers in both formal and informal sectors into the abyss of poverty. “With the micro pension launch and expected attendant increase in pension assets, there is no doubt that the nation is also assured of investable funds for poverty alleviation as well as wealth generation,” he said. The General Secretary said the Pension Reform Act of 2004 was the most significant legislation of the 2nd National Assembly. Before the new Act, the old scheme had pension deficit of about N2.3 trillion in 2004 and pensioners were not paid entitlements regularly. Ad “The contributory scheme is fully funded with employers contributing 10 per cent and employees contributing 8 per cent deducted directly from workers’ salaries and promptly transferred to workers’ retirement savings accounts. “Today Pension assets have grown from N2.9 trillion in 2012 to over N6.5 trillion, thanks to the efforts of the successive leaderships of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM). Ad “The Scheme was amended in 2014. Significantly the Act was amended to widen the scope of coverage to include the informal sector, tighten sanction for non- compliance and review the rates of contribution among others. The rates were also made equitable with employers paying more than the workers. “Employers contribute 10 per cent while workers contribute eight per cent making a total of 18 per cent as against the inaugural 15 per cent (7.5 per cent each). ”With the amended PRA 2014, PenCom initiated the framework for the Micro Pension Scheme that targets the informal sector which was rolled out on Thursday,” he said. He however, said the provision of the Pension Reform Act 2014 (PRA 2014) applies to all employees in the Public Service of the Federation, Federal Capital Territory, States and Local Governments and the Private Sector Organisations in which there are three or more employees. Ad “It is commendable that the Commission considers it necessary to develop a framework for the implementation of the provisions of Section 2(3) through a Micro Pension Plan. ”Micro Pension refers to an arrangement for the provision of pension to the self-employed and persons operating in the informal sector through the Contributory Pension Scheme,” he said. Issa said beyond the presidential launch on Thursday, PenCom must utilise various channels of communication in educating the public on Micro Pension Plan. Ad He said the most important and effective channels should be periodic town hall meetings with trade Unions, trade Associations and Cooperatives to educate members, proffer clarifications and address concerns on Micro Pension Plan. He said trainings must also be organised for leaders of unions, associations and cooperatives to be Micro Pension champions to coach and enlighten their members.https://leadership.ng/2019/03/29/textile-union-hails-pmb-on-micro-pension-plan/ Mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala |

The ruling was made on Thursday, when the case resumed for hearing. Justice Binta Nyako gave the order during the court’s sitting, stating that Kanu had continuously absented himself from the court.
