A secondary school teacher, Chiadikobi Ezeibekwe, has married his 17-year-old biological sister in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State. According to report, Ezeibekwe claimed that he had a revelation where God told him to marry his sibling. He further quoted Bible passages in Deuteronomy to illustrate that siblings could marry each other. The wedding was conducted by Chiadikobi’s elder brother, Chijioke Ezeibekwe, who is the priest of Dwelling Fullness of God Church, Agba, Ekwulobia. “One advantage of doing this is that it discourages divorce. It also retains family values and norms. I don’t feel guilty. I don ’t feel ashamed. I don ’t feel intimidated in any way. Only God can stop us,” he said. It was, however, confirmed that the youth of the village had set ablaze the church, Dwelling Fullness of God Church, where the wedding took place. Confirming the incident, the traditional ruler of Ekwulobia, Chief Gabriel Ezeukwu, said, “Agba village youths, who saw the marriage as an abomination, set ablaze the church where the wedding took place. “I restrained them from further action against the man and his family. If it were in the past, the entire family would be burnt down because this is a grave abomination and sin.” In his reaction, the eldest son of the family, Emeka Ezeibekwe vowed to resist their union. “It ’s over my dead body that they will call themselves husband and wife. It can’t happen,” he said. The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Nkeiruka Nwide, told the newspaper that she heard the story “unofficially.” |

The Nigeria Air Force (NAF), has deployed additional air assets, including Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms to the North East Zone to intensify efforts at locating the missing Dapchi girls in Yobe. The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice-Marshal Olatokunbo Adesanya, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja. Adesanya said that the deployment of ISR was a renewed effort at locating the missing Dapchi girls. He said that NAF, following confirmation of reports that some of the girls were yet to be accounted for, had deployed some ISR platforms and helicopters to search for and possibly locate the missing girls and the Boko Haram Terrorists. https://leadership.ng/2018/02/25/airforce-deploys-jets-search-dapchi-school-girls/?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C9682310079 Mynd44 lalasticlala oam4j |

Few months ago, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Kebbi State Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for the production of ethanol fuel. What exactly are the issues involved? Kebbi State, as we all know is endowed by the Almighty Allah with all the potentials for high level agricultural production. We have the arable fadama land in almost all the 21 local government areas of the state. You know this is the era of change from over-reliance on oil to self-sufficiency in food production. It is in the light of the need to achieve these ambitious diversification goals that the MoU was signed between the Kebbi State Government and the NNPC. The objective is to collaborate to utilise Kebbi’s arable land suitable for either mass production of sugarcane or cassava to achieve a capacity to produce and blend of ethanol - what they call green energy - in order to blend it with premium motor spirit (PMS), otherwise called petrol. The idea is to get a blend to improve the quality of PMS. A feasibility study was carried out and I am happy to tell you that as it is today, the conclusion is that we have the natural endowment and a very resourceful human capital to generate fuel grade ethanol for the country to help push our desire to diversify forward. What are the other objectives derivable in this agreement? This agreement holds very promising blessings for the development of this country. As expected, Nigeria will inch towards self-reliance in sugar production because the sugarcane production will be massive. Again, animal feed will be available and affordable to water-down the herdsmen/farmers restiveness in the area. We believe that as more animal feed becomes available and affordable, the more clashes between herdsmen and farmers will settle down. Thirdly, ethanol fuel energy to generate power will also be achieved, and finally and very importantly, 1.5M jobs will be created across Kebbi State. These jobs are available to all Nigerians and you can deduce the positive impact in the area of security, industrialisation and socio economic stability this will have on the survival of our country. In the area of electricity generation, it is expected that about 75 megawatts will be generated. Kebbi State has become an important player in the realisation of the agricultural revolution in Nigeria. What are these potentials? Kebbi State is naturally endowed with human and natural resources. These two are very important in the pursuit of the kind of ambitious agricultural policies of becoming self-reliant in rice production which Nigeria has set for itself. Kebbi State is blessed with rivers that have criss- crossed the state and made the land very available and suitable for rice, wheat, cassava and sugarcane cultivation. We have the River Niger which stretches 175 kilometres across more than 10 local government areas of Kebbi State. We also have River Rima which criss-crosses for about 150 kilometers into many local government areas of Kebbi State. Don’t forget also that River Zamfara has also stretched into our state. Out of Kebbi’s 21 local government areas, only three or four are bereft of river endowment. In other words, the whole of Kebbi is endowed with the land and fadama resources to produce rice in the quantity enough to feed the whole of West Africa. |

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Nigeria has said it was targeting $1.05bn for humanitarian needs in the North-East ravaged by the Boko Haram insurgents. This is as the leader of the Network of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Borno State Ambassador Shehu Ahmed said the Oslo conference shows that the world cares for Nigeria and the Lake Chad region, hence the need for regional CSOs to play their part. The UN-OCHA Representative in Nigeria Mrs Alta Bell made the disclosure Friday in Abuja at the meeting of the Network of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in LakeChad region comprising Nigeria, Niger,Chad and Cameroun. “There was a humanitarian response plan that was developed and done in partnership with our partners and we looked at the need of the different northeast states and as a result we came up with a plan to respond to the critical needs which amount to $1.05bn.https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/boko-haram-un-to-raise-1-05bn-for-n-east-in-2018.html?
