PDP govs meet over Wike, ‘packaging’ Dankwambo for presidency
Some PDP governors between Sunday night and early yesterday held a closed door meeting at the Government House in Gombe, where they reportedly discussed “the excessive powers” being wielded by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State with a view to checkmating him.
Sources said the meeting which had some PDP governors and representatives of others in attendance, also witnessed the presence of some members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
It was gathered that besides discussing how to reclaim the party, the PDP leaders also discussed the probability of fielding Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo as their presidential candidate, next year. Wike or his representative, as well as the National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, were conspicuously absent at the meeting, with sources saying the duo deliberately absconded because they were “the main subjects of discussion.”
Wike was widely reported to have worked for the emergence of Secondus as PDP national chairman, and since the December 2017 convention, he (Wike) had remained “very powerful in the PDP.” Two party stalwarts, professors Jerry Gana and Tunde Adeniran at the weekend defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP); citing Wike’s alleged overbearing influence as motivation for their departure.
At the end of yesterday’s meeting in Gombe, the PDP leaders only told journalists that they were not happy with President Muhammadu Buhari’s alleged laxity in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgents and the poor state of the economy.
Governors present at the meeting included Emmanuel Udom (Akwa Ibom), Benedict Ayade (Cross River), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Ayodele Fayose (Ekiti), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Darius Ishaku (Taraba), Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe), and Rear Admiral John Jonah who represented Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State.
The National Secretary of the party, Umar Tsauri and the Deputy National Chairman (South), Elder Yomi Akinwumi were some of the NWC members that attended the meeting.
The PDP had zoned its presidential ticket to the North and at present, it had only two serving governors from the region, Dankwambo who was serving his second term and his counterpart in Taraba, Ishaku who was about three years into his first term.
“The governors are actually looking inwards,” a source said. “They want one of their own as possible presidential candidate that would challenge President Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.
Another source conversant with the internal intrigues of the party confided that soon after the convention, Governor Wike had been boasting that he handpicked the executives of the party and would always have his way. “He is the one who prompted serious party leaders to leave recently,” he said.
Addressing newsmen after the meeting, Fayose who is the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, said the abduction of 110 girls at a school in Dapchi, Yobe State, confirmed the ruling APC’s “nonchalant attitude in the fight against insurgency in the North East.” The PDP governors also alleged that President Buhari’s administration had failed to fulfil any of the campaign promises made to Nigerians before the 2015 election. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/pdp-govs-meet-over-wike-packaging-dankwambo-for-presidency.html?

The Kebbi State Governor and Chairman, Presidential Task Force on Rice and Wheat Production, Senator Atiku Bagudu has said frantic efforts were being made by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to ensure that rice, the nation’s staple food is available in abundance and affordable for all Nigerians. Bagudu gave the assurance in an interview with Journalists after a stakeholders’ meeting with the Rice Distributors Association of Nigeria and the Rice Millers Association of Nigeria in Lagos. According to Bagudu, from the contributions of all the stakeholders, it is apparent that what Nigerians want was actually not about making subsidy available on rice production but making it affordable and accessible such that Nigerian produced rice can be as competitive as those of the imported ones into the country. “The mandate given to this task force which is under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is to ensure Nigeria has self-sufficiency in rice and wheat production. |

Skepticus: The flexibility of guerrilla and unconventional approach to warfare is the best at fighting conventional armies which are usually rigid.
With it, the best armies in the world have been defeated by smaller and ill-equipped bands of determined fighters.
Boko Haram has maximized, even to brutal levels. The better equipped but poorly cordinated nigerian army don't stand a chance against these rebels We thank God that they are alive to see their families again. |

megapriest: The simple fact is that Nigeria government especially top military cabal does not have political will to end the fight because that's their means of embelzement ..after Dasuki gate, buraris government still plan to acquire 1billion dollars to fight Boko Haram. if they should end the war how would they get the money. I Fear Nigeria my Country Guess what! I still think the Nigerian army commanders, deliberately allowing the Boko harams war, to continuing! Because, they rake in more money in to their pockets, as long as the war continues! Average salary of commanders, not enough to cater for family & outside family members! 50% of funds allocated for the war, re- enters commanders pockets! Therefore, out of greed, they won't let it end! That's the truth, nothing, but the truth!!!!!!! |

They told lots of lies against the government then just to get northern and foreigne sympathies. Now that this government is giving them the best of weapons and money meant to fight insurgents are no longer looted, why is our military still doing tactical maneuvering, why is the technically defeated boko haram insurgents still capturing and tying our soldier's and shooting them at close range. Pls what's really happening to this nation |

Sometimes I pity out Nigerian armed forces fighting a battle they have no idea of..
Whereas those who purportedly started this war are somewhere in their homes relaxing and enjoying at the expense of other people's life and comfort.
God help us The answer is that Boko haram fighters don't fear death, that is why they can commit suicide. Nigerian soldiers run when they see death coming. That is the army and police we built for our society. They are products of our society. How do we take care of those who sacrifice their lives for us? How do we respond as a society when they die for our sake? I don't blame them if they ran away from imminent death. |

Cameroon Returns 4 Soldiers, 2 Mobile Policeman Who Fled There During Boko Haram's Attack On Rann
At least four soldiers and two mobile policemen, who fled to Cameroon during an attack by Boko Haram on Rann, Borno State, have been rescued and returned to Nigeria by Cameroonian troops. Security sources told SaharaReporters that they were handed to Nigerian troops at Gamboru-Ngala.
"The soldiers claimed to have fled gunfire that left eight security personnel dead." said a security source. Another source also disclosed that a nurse, Hauwa Mohammed, might have been rescued also by Cameroonian troops. This, however, could not be confirmed.
The source claimed that her family had received information of her freedom from her abductors.
"The latest information about Hauwa was that her family reported that they were contacted and Informed that she was rescued in Cameroon and will be escorted to Maiduguri today," said the source. http://saharareporters.com/2018/03/04/cameroon-returns-4-soldiers-2-mobile-policeman-who-fled-there-during-boko-harams-attack

The Federal Government ( FG ) has instituted a law suit against the Chinese-owned oil firm, Addax Petroleum Development Nigeria Ltd, over the company's alleged under- remittance of $3 billion in taxes and royalties. The funds, according to the FG, are outstanding claims against the company under the Petroleum Profit Tax Act and Petroleum (Drilling and Production) Amendment Regulation 2003 over Oil Mining Leases (OMLs) 123, 124, 126, and 137. In the suit before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of federal high court Lagos, the FG is seeking for an order directing the NNPC, Ministry of Petroleum/DPR, and NAPIMS from further allocation of crude oil explored from OMLs 123, 124, 126, and 137 to Addax Petroleum pending when the company furnishes the court verifiable Bank Guarantee from Nigerian banks to cover the monetary claims of the plaintiff. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/unremitted-oil-tax-fg-in-court-to-recover-3-09bn.html?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C6497839072 Mynd44 lalasticlala oam4j |
