Nigeria’s customs service has intercepted 7,000 donkey joysticks at an airport in the commercial hub, Lagos, that were headed to Hong Kong, according to an official. The animal parts were packed in 16 sacks found in the animal export section, said Sambo Dangaladima, the customs controller at Murtala Muhammed airport. He said the smell from the sacks aroused suspicion of the authorities. The consignment is estimated to be worth 200 million Naira ($478,000; £416,000) A suspect linked to the package is said to have escaped. Donkey parts are sought after in China where they are used to make traditional medicine. Nigerian law forbids export of donkey parts. https://www.myjoyonline.com/nigeria-seizes-7000-donkey-joysticks-for-export-at-airport/ mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala seun semid4lyfe dominique https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-47639450 |
A National Disgrace To A Whole Giant of Africa President. Shehu, Lai, Adesina over to You, |
The government of Qatar has requested for a change in dates for the planned visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the country in September. According to a note dated August 19 from the embassy of Qatar in Abuja to the ministry of foreign affairs, the dates of the proposed visitation “are not suitable”. The note established that Nigeria had communicated in writing that Buhari had “accepted to visit Qatar on 11-12 September 2022 on the invitation of H.H Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar”. It, however, instructed the federal government to propose a new date for the visit, preferably “during the first quarter of the year 2023”. Advertisement “The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Abuja presents its compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Regions Department) and with reference to the latter’s note M 403/2022 dated 12/08/2022 informing that H.E Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has accepted to visit Qatar on 11-12 September 2022 on the invitation of H.H Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar,” the statement reads. According to the Qatar embassy, “the proposed dates for the visit are not suitable and kindly request the Nigerian side to propose other dates for the visit during the first quarter of the year 2023”. “The Embassy of the State of Qatar avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Regions Department) the assurance of its highest consideration,” the statement added. Advertisement TheCable understands that the rejection of the planned visit is due to the Middle East country’s preparation for the 2022 World Cup. Qatar is billed to host the FIFA World Cup from November 21 to December 18 later this year. Nigeria will not be present at the mundial, after being piped to the ticket by Ghana earlier in March. https://www.thecable.ng/sources-qatar-postpones-buharis-planned-visit-over-world-cup-preparation/amp mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala seun semid4lyfe dominique |

The 44 worshippers abducted from a mosque in Zamfara community last Friday have been subjected to physical labour on armed men’s farmlands, Daily Trust has learnt. Residents told Daily Trust that the bandits had called to tell relatives that the captives were with them and working on their millet and sorghum plantations but had yet to demand ransom. “Our millet plantations are due for harvest and the captives must do the work for us,” one of the bandits was quoted as saying by a resident, Abubakar Bukkuyum. Last Friday, bandits abducted dozens of worshippers from a central Juma’at Mosque in Zugu community of Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Residents said the armed men hid their guns inside their clothes and stormed the mosque when the Imam was about to start delivering sermons and they asked those on the premises of the mosque to get inside. “No one saw them with guns and many people mistook them as worshippers. Nobody paid attention to them because they hid their guns. “However, shortly after they moved inside the mosque they brought out the rifles and fired some shots as a warning. “They herded the congregants into the bush but some of the worshippers managed to scramble out of the mosque to safety. The muezzin was among those kidnapped but the Imam was able to escape the assault. “Some those who were outside the mosque were also abducted. When contacted for an update, the spokesman of the police in the state, SP Muhammad Shehu, said search and rescue operation had already commenced https://dailytrust.com/abducted-zamfara-worshippers-working-on-bandits-farmlands mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala seun semid4lyfe dominique |

Lance Corporal John Gabriel, a soldier with registration number N/ A13/69/1522 has opened up on how he tricked Sheik Goni Aisami- Gashua, a prominent cleric in Yobe State, before killing him. Daily Trust had reported how the cleric was shot dead after he offered lift to his killer on Friday night. Aisami was headed for Gashua from Nguru when his killer who was in mufti pleaded to join him to Jaji-Maji. As they proceeded on the journey, he tricked the cleric who alighted from his vehicle but never made it back again as Gabriel snuffed life out of him. Speaking when he was paraded by the police on Wednesday, the killer soldier who was attached to 241 Recce Model Battalion, Nguru, said the Sheik asked him two questions before he pulled the trigger. “We were approaching Jaji-Maji and the windows were wound down, so I told him (the victim) that I was hearing a sound under his vehicle and he said he was suspecting something under it and he wanted to park and check. After he parked by the roadside, he alighted and I followed him. After checking, he found out that it was not what he suspected. “”Meanwhile, I had removed my rifle and fixed the magazine when he was under the vehicle. When he didn’t find anything under the vehicle, I told him to check the back tyre, but as he was about doing so, I pointed my rifle at him and he asked me, ‘What did I do to you?” And I responded, you did not do anything to me. He asked further, ‘Do you want to kill me?’ And I said, ‘No I don’t want to kill you.’ So, he kept quiet and I fired a warning shot, thinking he would be scared and run away. But he didn’t run away. However as he made to enter his vehicle, I fired directly at him.” The death of the Islamic scholar had sparked a nationwide outrage, with many demanding immediate prosecution. In an interview with BBC Hausa Service, the National Chairman of Islamic propagation group, Izala Movement, Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau, had said the manner in which he was murdered showed its terrorism against the Muslim Ummah. “We condemn the assassination and we call on the Federal Government to quickly prosecute the assassins; let’s probe the motive of the killing. If it had happened that a Muslim killed a pastor, the story would have been different, we won’t let this go, we won’t keep quiet anymore,” he had said. https://dailytrust.com/killer-soldier-what-yobe-cleric-asked-me-before-i-pulled-the-trigger mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala seun mukina2 Sissie |

President Muhammadu Buhari has called on security agencies to take the fight to terrorists’ hideouts and ensure they are “completely eliminated”. He gave the directive in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital at an event to mark World Humanitarian Day. ”The Men and Officers of Operation Lafiya Dole, Security Agencies, and the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) are very much appreciated for their commitment to the fight against insurgency,” presidential aide, Femi Adesina, quoted his principal as saying. ”I commend their professionalism and tactical penetration to the hideout of the criminal elements, leading to appreciable improvement of the security situation in this North East Region, without which the resettlement of the IDPs would not be possible. ”I, therefore, implore you not to relent in your efforts, continue to take the fight to their hideouts, and ensure they are completely eliminated. ”I also implore you to ensure adequate security for farmers in their farming activities. Agricultural activities are most needed for settlement and development of the rural areas and this can only be achieved if the farmers are sure of their safety.” In Borno, the President directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and its agencies to ensure the unimpeded return of Internally Displaced Persons in the North-East. ‘‘On this 2022 World Humanitarian Day and every other day, we stand and shall continue to stand in solidarity with humanitarian aid workers and recognize their tremendous service and sacrifice. ”We celebrate their tireless efforts to save lives, preserve human dignity, and alleviate suffering. Their selfless commitment and actions stand as an example to us all. ”We will also make sure that they have our backing by ensuring that the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Social Development facilitates their work,” Buhari said. He also virtually commissioned a 500-unit housing estate constructed by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and 24 units of houses for primary teachers built by the Borno State Government. https://www.channelstv.com/2022/08/19/completely-eliminate-terrorists-buhari-tells-security-agencies/ mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala seun https://punchng.com/fish-out-eliminate-terrorists-buhari-orders-military/ https://guardian.ng/news/go-after-terrorists-eliminate-them-buhari-orders-security-heads/ |

Tinubu will win at 1st ballot mark my words . Obi and kwankwaso are just paving way for APC. Peter Obi plus kwankwaso will not get half of the votes of PDP or APC in the 2023 presidential election..?? |
The 2023 presidential election may go into rerun with the emergence of Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi and candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, an international delegation of National Democratic Institute (NDI) and International Republican Institute (IRI) have said. The United States-based institutes said the 2023 elections would be a departure from some of the political dynamics that defined previous polls in Nigeria. The delegation of the NDI/IRI, which visited Nigeria on July 13 through 22, led by the Secretary of State for Ohio, Frank LaRose, stated these while presenting its first joint pre-elections assessment statement to journalists in Abuja on Friday. The institutes, which described the duo of Obi and Kwankwaso as a viable ‘third forces’ said their emergence as presidential candidates for the 2023 elections has excited many young Nigerians. They noted that if a third party draws sufficient support, a runoff presidential election could be a real possibility for the first time since the transition to democracy, adding complexity to the 2023 elections.’ Maintaining that the 2023 elections present a significant opportunity to consolidate Nigeria’s democracy, They observed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is now better positioned than in past elections to take on the logistical and administrative arrangements necessary to organise elections for 85 million registered voters. The organisations said, “The 2022 Ekiti and Osun gubernatorial elections, the first elections held since the electoral law was passed, demonstrated the positive impact of initiatives implemented by INEC since 2019 to improve results transparency, including the introduction of the INEC Result Viewing Portal (ReV) and elimination of voting points.’ “Other improvements include the adoption and proper configuration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for voter accreditation, which has quickened the voting process and reduced tensions in polling units.’ “The recent surge in voter registration numbers and increased voter turnout in the 2022 Osun polls, especially among young people, point to a renewed interest in political participation among Nigerians. “However, there are questions about whether the 2022 Electoral Act will be fully implemented and whether political parties will take advantage of this increased enthusiasm to engage Nigerians on issues that matter to them. There are also questions about whether these new technologies — IReV and BVAS – would perform at the same level when scaled up for the national elections.” The institutes said while there had been some positive changes since the 2019 elections, stakeholders with whom its delegation met expressed concern about the direction of the country. According to them, confidence in the government and elections has declined over the past 10 years,’ as exemplified by the #EndSARS movement that gained traction in 2020 to protest security forces abuses.’ “In addition, insecurity has deepened, spreading to every corner of the country, extremist and sectarian violence continues to spread, banditry and criminality are endemic, separatist elements are gaining traction, and informal security forces are proliferating. “This intensifying violence takes place against a backdrop of increasing religious and regional division permeating the political discourse. If the 2023 polls fail to improve upon past elections, Nigerians may lose faith in the ability of democracy to deliver,” the organisations warned. They called on the government to allocate remaining funding to INEC, saying this would ensure completion of procurement processes, training, and deployment of necessary staff and materials. According to them, INEC should extend the period for voter registration to capitalise on excitement from the Osun and Ekiti elections and nomination of final presidential and vice presidential candidates. “The courts should be allocated sufficient funding to ensure members of Election Tribunals have the necessary resources for training, transportation, and security. “INEC and security forces should anticipate and plan for areas where violence may be used to suppress votes/change outcomes. The government should formally address the role that informal security outfits (such as Amotekun and Ebube Agu) may play in the lead up to and during elections. “The government should resolve the Academic Staff of Union of Universities strike. This is critical for security, as young people unable to study could be easily recruited into cults, gangs, or other groups that could contribute to electoral violence,” they added. https://guardian.ng/news/2023-rerun-likely-over-emergence-of-obi-kwankwaso-us-institutes/ mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala seun |
