Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has said Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), knows the problem of Nigeria like the back of his hand. Sanwo-Olu said this in Ikeja, the state capital, during the 17th Edition of the Executive/ Legislative Parley, with the theme: “Mobilizing Citizens as a Social Capital Towards 2023 General Elections”. He said Tinubu had selflessly given himself to the people of Lagos during his tenure as the governor, and to Nigeria as a whole, and recorded many achievements. “This, indeed, is the time to pay him back with our unwavering support. He is, no doubt, the right and best man for the job. He knows the issues plaguing our nation like the back of his hands and he has the magic wand to fix it.” “So, because of our Apex leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, it is time for us to take Lagos to Nigeria agenda. It is time for us to work assiduously and ensure that all of these successes in Lagos can be reflected in Nigeria as a whole. “That is why I am calling on all of us to ensure that we do everything we can do politically and otherwise, to ensure that we can help to activate and actualise the next president of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “Let us rally behind our great party, the All Progressives Congress, let us rally behind the great man, that indeed, we believe can help us take our country to the next level,” he said.https://dailytrust.com/2023-tinubu-knows-nigerias-problems-like-the-back-of-his-hands-sanwo-olu? President Muhammadu Buhari has welcomed the designation of Nigeria as one of the six countries in Africa designated as manufacturing bases for the COVID-19 vaccine. The President spoke Friday in Brussels, Belgium, while contributing to the Roundtable on Health Systems and Vaccine Production at the ongoing 6th Europe-Africa Summit. “I am delighted to receive the news of the selection of Nigeria among recipients of MRNA Vaccine technology transfer. “We shall ensure the best use is made of the opportunity. Nigeria also offers to host the Bio- manufacturing Training hub proposed by World Health Organization (WHO). “We commit to providing support to make the hub functional in the shortest possible time. “Accordingly, we are prioritizing the manufacture of vaccines on the African continent and in the sharing and transfer of technology and intellectual property rights. “We call on the EU to support the WTO towards the conclusion of negotiations on intellectual property rights’ waiver to ensure that the manufacturing of vaccines can start early in Africa,” he said. The presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, in a statement said with the addition of Nigeria to the four countries earlier approved for the vaccine production on the continent, efforts by the Buhari administration to change the selection that the country considered unrepresentative of the needs, capabilities and population distribution in Africa had yielded the desired result. President Buhari, who also called for collaboration to address the effects of the pandemic, commended the efforts of the foreign partners in making the COVID-19 vaccine available. He, however, urged them to do more as less than 10 per cent of the African population had gotten the jab, stressing that this situation could negatively affect Africa’s developmental projections. President Buhari also called for a closer collaboration with the EU to tackle the effects of the pandemic on the African continent.https://dailytrust.com/nigeria-joins-4-other-countries-to-produce-covid-19-vaccine-in-africa? Aside football, Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa is a ready reference for altruism due to his sense of empathy towards the plight of others, regardless of ethnic or religious affiliations. The 28-year-old winger is the most capped player in the history of Nigerian football with 104 appearances for the Eagles since his debut in 2011 against Guinea in Conakry. As a football star, he’s changing the narrative about the art of giving and philanthropy in Nigeria. In the past years, his acts of charity have earned the special recognition and words of gratitude from many Nigerians. Some even likened Musa to pop star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido who unexpectedly received N200m from fans and friends and added N50million. He then donated the N250million to all orphanages across Nigeria. Musa has a long history of kindness which he has demonstrated over and over again with his succeeding flow of humanitarian support to people and communities. He has made countless donations and also offered scholarships and other forms of help to alleviate the suffering of the needy. Musa’s latest gesture was his intervention and show of love with the donation of N2 million to 1996 Olympic gold medalist, Kingsley Obiekwu. Obiekwu, a member of the Atlanta ’96 Olympics Gold medal-winning Dream Team, recently opened up on his financial struggles, especially how he uses his only car for commercial transport to sustain his family. The 47-year-old former defender fondly referred to as “Shagari” during his professional stint, played for Rangers International FC, Enugu and Udoji United. Obiekwu has sent words of appreciation to Musa and Nigerians for their support. On how Musa contacted him, he said: “Musa called me and said he had heard my story and that he and his teammates will do something but meanwhile, I should give him my account number and in about an hour’s time, I got an alert of N2 million, I appreciate that a lot.” Obiekwu, who said he was forced to retire at 30 in 2004 due to health reasons, said a number of ex-internationals were passing through hard times, urging them not to be ashamed to speak out instead of dying in silence. He advised active sportsmen and women to save and invest their earnings to avoid running into hitches when they retire. https://thenationonlineng.net/ahmed-musas-uncommon-philanthropy/ mynd44 lalasticlala oam4j seun semid4lyfe honeric01 |
good one Eto'o try it here in 9ja and be sacked |
Samuel Eto'o has become embroiled in a diplomatic row with Cameroon's Sports Minister over the future of head coach Antonio Conceicao as the fallout from the country's third-place finish Africa Cup of Nations ( AFCON) continues. Eto'o told Narcisse Mouelle Kombi any decision concerning a managerial change ultimately rested with Cameroon's Football Association (FECAFOOT), of which he is the president. Earlier this week, Kombi had told Cameroonian broadcaster CRTV that Conceicao would be in charge for the upcoming international fixtures next month. 'Every time we have won a trophy, it has been with a foreign coach. What is more important now is the [World Cup] playoffs in March,' he said. 'The priority is not to destabilise the team by decapitating it. 'We are in a phase of rebuilding. When we look at the record under the Conceicao era, we have two defeats out of 23 matches, and 14 matches without conceding a goal.' 'We are in a phase of rebuilding. When we look at the record under the Conceicao era, we have two defeats out of 23 matches, and 14 matches without conceding a goal.' After sports Minister Mouelle Kombi said last sunday that Cameroon's head coach Antonio Conceicao will be in charge of world cup qualifiers in March, FECAFOOT boss Samuel Etoo has written to him to disagree. Etoo details that management of the national team is Fecafoot's duty. Eto'o, however, swiftly reminded Cameroon's Spots Minister that deciding the future of the national team's manager was not part of his remit. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10527221/Samuel-Etoo-hits-Cameroon-government-future-head-coach-Antonio-Conceicao.html lalasticlala mynd44 seun |

The federal government has said it will build six solid minerals processing plants in the six geo- political zones of the country. The Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, disclosed this yesterday during a courtesy call on Governor Godwin Obaseki in Benin City. He said: “The president gave us the mandate to develop key solid minerals which are coal, bitumen, limestone, iron ore, gold and zinc among others. “We have started the process and through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we have been able to attract some funding and we are building six processing plants because what we discovered in the past is that people take our minerals.” The minister said each ore has so many other components but the miners lose by selling it as one component, noting that the processing plant for the South South zone is being built in Cross River State. On his part, Governor Godwin Obaseki assured that his administratio is committed to partnering with the federal government to come up with policies to improve the mining sector. “This loophole must be closed. We have to work closely to check illegal mining. Once we legalise the operations and everybody understands the enforcement, from the state government to the local government, nobody will go into mining without proper authorisation, he said. https://dailytrust.com/fg-to-build-6-solid-minerals-processing-plants mynd44 lalasticla oam4j Seun |

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the National Policy on the Government, Second Level Domain aimed at safeguarding official communications using government top-level domains. The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami , disclosed this when he addressed State House correspondents on the outcome of the Council meeting, presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, on Wednesday in Abuja. He stated that government officials must now migrate from using generic domains in their websites and their emails to the “second level under the government top-level domain”. According to him, the use of private emails like, yahoo.com; hotmail.com or gmail.com for official communications by government officials would no longer be tolerated. “The memo I presented is our national policy, which has been approved by the Federal Executive Council. The policy has been entitled as National Policy on the Government, Second Level Domain. “This policy has been approved, and it focuses more on mandating federal public institutions, ministries, departments, agencies, and all institutions as long as they are for government to migrate from using generic domain in their websites and their emails to our second level domain under government top-level domain. “For example, you will discover today, some government institutions will engage in official communications using private email: yahoo.com; hotmail.com, gmail.com, and it is an official communication. “And someone may retire or will complete his tenure or the tenure can be terminated, and he will go with the same email. And in that email, there are many official documents. “So, this will not be tolerated by government anymore. Any official communications must be (by) using official email. And that email should not be a generic one. It must be dot government dot ng. “What is most important is, dot.ng, that is our national identity. There are many categories of the second level domain, some are for military, you will see like mil.ng; mil is a short form of Military. Dot ng for Nigeria. “You can see .gov.ng. gov for government and ng for Nigeria. So there are categories of the second level domain, while our country top level domain.ng must be there in our websites, so that whoever gets access will know that this website is from Nigeria. While for email, it must reflect the official name.’’ Benefits He said that benefits of the new policy would include the protection of the nation’s cyberspace as well as safeguarding national identity. “Furthermore, there are so many benefits of doing that. Number one, our national security. Websites are being created in other countries without domain name and some claim to be from Nigeria, this will go a long way in compromising our cyberspace, which cannot be ignored. “Two, national identity. Our national identity is key; any website from Nigeria, particularly for government must have dot.ng. From anywhere you will know that this is a Nigerian website. “And it will go a long way in promoting and improving our global ranking when it comes to human development, when it comes to fighting poverty and many more. “If website doesn’t have this, when it comes to assessment, many international organisations doing this assessment would not be able to get the correct websites of Nigerian institutions. And this will definitely affect our global ranking. It is because of this. Our national identity is important. “Number three, global recognition. It will give us a global recognition, because in the assessment, they will count and discover how many institutions are from Nigeria, what have they been doing, what is their performance, what they have implemented so far. “So, it is also important. Furthermore, there is transparency. This transparency will also help us in some ways. “And finally, there is public confidence. If you receive an email, dot government dot ng, you will have that confidence that this is for government institution.’ “So public confidence is key. And if you look at a crime being committed today in the country, Yahoo Yahoo (advanced fee fraud), it is from the generic email, someone may sit in the comfort of his room, create an email using Yahoo, bearing somebody’s name and committing crime. “That is why even the local name of this they call it Yahoo Yahoo. It is from using generic emails,” Mr Pantami said. He stated that all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) must key into the new national policy to promote transparency and good governance. “It is now a national policy. We must patronise our official accounts and communicate officially when you are about to leave office, there are procedures on either how to hand over the official email or how the email can be shut down completely.https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/511998-nigerian-govt-bars-officials-from-using-yahoo-mail-gmail-others-for-official-communication. myn44 lalasticla oam4j |

A member of the Atlanta ’96 Olympics Gold medal- winning Dream Team, Kingsley Obiekwu, who recently opened up on his financial struggles has received a kind donation of N2 million from Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa. Though Musa did not publicly announce the donation or post it on his social media pages, close associates of the former CSKA Moscow forward confirmed the development to PREMIUM TIMES. Musa also liked one of the posts where his latest kind gesture was shared The post read: Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa has donated N2 million to support 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist, Kingsley Obiekwu. Obiekwu was reported to be working as a driver in Enugu. Obiekwu has confirmed the alert & cash support from Musa. Musa assisted the former defender who recently revealed that he uses his only car for commercial transport to sustain his family. Obiekwu, Member of the Order of Niger (MON), revealed his predicaments in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Awka. The towering defender who aside from playing for Enugu Rangers and Udoji United also featured in the Dutch League for Go Ahead Eagles said he went into the transport business to sustain his family. The 47-year old former defender fondly referred to as Shagari in his playing days said things had not been rosy since he returned to Nigeria in 2008, in spite of his contributions to the development of Nigeria’s football. According to Obiekwu, who now coaches INGAS FC, Enugu, he has to combine the coaching job with the commercial transport business to make ends meet. He also stated that being owed over N6 million cumulatively by his former employees had also made things difficult for him. “Yes, I am a commercial transporter; there is nothing to hide about it. Man has to do what is legal to pay his family bills. “I have four children at Enugu State University of Technology and my last child is in primary five,” he said in the NAN interview. Not the first time Musa has a long history of kindness having previously made similar donations and also offered scholarships and other forms of help to alleviate the suffering of the needy The Super Eagles captain was in the news a few weeks back when he made another donation to the building of a mosque in Garoua during the recent Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Cameroon. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/511997-ahmed-musa-donates-n2-million-to-atlanta-96-gold-medalist-turned-taxi-driver.html?f lalasticlala mynd44 oam4j |

A woman, referred to as ‘The New York patient’ for the sake of privacy, has reportedly become the first female to be cured of HIV. The development was said to have been announced on Tuesday at a ‘Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections’, held virtually. According to NBC news , the patient, described as a person of “mixed race”, received treatment at the New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in the US. She was said to have been diagnosed with HIV in 2013, while she was confirmed to have leukemia in 2017. Advertisement The treatment, said to involve use of blood drawn from the umbilical cord, also focuses on improving the immune system. “The procedure used to treat the New York patient, known as a haplo-cord transplant , was developed by the Weill Cornell team to expand cancer treatment options for people with blood malignancies who lack HLA- identical donors,” the NBC news report reads. “First, the cancer patient receives a transplant of umbilical cord blood, which contains stem cells that amount to a powerful nascent immune system. A day later, they receive a larger graft of adult stem cells. The adult stem cells flourish rapidly, but over time they are entirely replaced by cord blood cells.” Advertisement According to the New York Times , although the researchers say they are still monitoring the recovery process, the woman has not been diagnosed with HIV in blood tests over the past 14 months. Her treatment becomes significant considering that women constitute a higher percentage of HIV cases reported globally. According to the statistics released by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in 2021, “53% of all people living with HIV were women and girls”. Meanwhile, prior to the latest development, two other men were said to have been cured of HIV in 2009 and 2019, respectively — through treatment by bone marrow transplant. https://www.thecable.ng/breakthrough-new-york-patient-becomes-first-woman-to-be-cured-of-hiv/amp mynd44 lalasticla Sissy3 dominique |
