SportsChelsea's Semi-final With Real Madrid May Not Go Ahead, Says Uefa's President by ManirBK(op): 12:38pm On Apr 22, 2021
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has revealed there is a 'small
possibility' that next week's Champions League semi-final between
Real Madrid and Chelsea may not go ahead as punishment for their
role in the European Super League .
Real and Chelsea were both part of the 'Dirty Dozen', the 12 European
giants who announced their intention to form a breakaway
competition on Sunday night.
However, strong protests from fans, players, managers and pundits
led to the idea collapsing and its founder, Juventus chairman Andrea
Agnelli, admitted the project was in tatters on Wednesday after all six
Premier League clubs dropped out.
Attention has now turned to what punishment the 12 clubs, which
included all of the Premier League's 'Big Six', three clubs from Spain
and three from Italy, would face for their role in the scheme.
Three of the 12 - Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid - are still
in the Champions League while Arsenal and Manchester United are
competing in the Europa League semi-finals.
One option that has been put forward is those clubs still involved in
UEFA's flagship club competitions could be disqualified, especially as
Real Madrid have not formally withdrawn from the Super League.
Ceferin, who called the breakaway group 'snakes', 'arrogant' and
'greedy' over the past few days, has admitted there is a chance the
semi-finals will not go ahead but warned broadcasting deals make it
unlikely.
'The key is that this season has already started, so broadcasters
would come at us for damages if we don't play the semi-finals,' he
said on Slovenian TV channel 24UR .'So, there's a relatively small possibility that this match isn't played
next week. But, things could be a little different in the future.'

SportsRe: West Ham Would Lead The Premiership If The 'big Six' To Be Evicted by ManirBK(op): 5:04pm On Apr 20, 2021
Playing in a league you can't get relegated or promoted... it is not
football.
The owners, these are the people to blame for it.
They are burning the history of what these clubs are about!!
SportsWest Ham Would Lead The Premiership If The 'big Six' To Be Evicted by ManirBK(op): 5:04pm On Apr 20, 2021
Booting the Big Six out now would be
happy days for the Hammers as David
Moyes and Co would be NINE POINTS clear
at the Premier League summit, but even
with all games against the Super League
rebels counting as a 3-0 win, Everton
would still be struggling.
However, the knock-on effect would see the Premier League take a
drastic blow, given the watering down of its brand. The conventional
race for the top four for Champions League football as everybody
knows it would be no more.
The teams, therefore, could effectively be axed from the English top
flight as a result of their actions. But what would this mean for
everybody else?
Sportsmail takes a look across the current campaign to examine
where clubs would stand, positionally, were the 'Big Six' to be evicted
and each of their fixtures this season simply be chalked down as
automatic 3-0 losses.
West Ham soar nine points clear
The news has been ill-received by pretty much everybody, but it's
happy days for the Hammers.
A sublime season under David Moyes would be rewarded by so much
more than a potential shot at Europe - the east London side top the
division by nine points!
Of course, this would all be rather hollow given how the matches
against the six rebel teams are billed as automatic wins, but it does
mean the Hammers are rewarded for their fine all-round play this
season with crucial victories where it has mattered against the other
sides.
West Ham would provide the only southern presence at the peak of
the table, with midlands and northern powerhouses lurking below.

PREMIER LEAGUE TABLE WITHOUT THE
'BIG SIX' CLUBS
1. West Ham United - 85 points
2. Leicester City - 76 points
3. Leeds United - 75 points
4. Aston Villa - 70 points
5. Everton - 70 points
6. Crystal Palace - 68 points
7. Newcastle - 68 points
8. Southampton - 66 points
9. Wolves - 66 points
10. Brighton - 62 points
11. Burnley - 62 points
12. Fulham - 57 points
13. West Brom - 53 points
14. Sheffield United - 47 points
* each team has had their matches against the Big Six removed and
been allocated an additional 36 points to represent automatic home
and away victories against each of the clubs.

PoliticsOver 1 Million Jobs Will Be Provided From Digital Switch-Over – FG by ManirBK(op): 1:38pm On Apr 18, 2021
The Federal Government announced, on Saturday, that it will commence the Digital Switch-Over (DSO) in Lagos, on April 29, as the country gradually transitions from analogue to digital broadcasting.

It also said over one million jobs are expected to be provided from the scheme.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this when he led the Ministerial Taskforce of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture on Digital Switch Over (DSO) on a courtesy visit to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos House, Marina.

Mr Mohammed said that the decision to transit to digital television followed an agreement signed at the Regional Radio Communication Conference (RRC-06) in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 16, 2006, to usher in ‘all-digital’ terrestrial broadcast services for sound and television by a target date of June 17, 2015.

He said that this would create a more equitable, just and people-centered information society, which would connect underserved populations and remote communities, thereby bridging the digital divide.

Jobs
According to him, the proposed rollout in Lagos will be a critical milestone for the DSO and the creative industry, as over one million jobs would be provided nationwide.

”We launched the DSO rollout in Jos, Plateau State, on April 30, 2016. Since then we have rolled out in four more states, Kwara, Kaduna, Enugu, and Osun, in addition to the Federal Capital Territory, bringing the total to five states and the FCT.

”We are now moving rapidly to cover the remaining 31 states. We are kick-starting the new rollout here in Lagos State on April 29, 2021.

”Kano State follows on June 3, 2021, Rivers State on July 8, 2021, Yobe State on July 15, 2021 and Gombe State on August 12, 2021, with more states slated thereafter.

”The rollout in Lagos reflects our decision to take the DSO to commercial centres across the country.

”With a population of over 20 million, and projected TV households of over five million, the launch of FreeTV in Lagos State will be a critical milestone for the DSO and for Nigeria’s broadcast and creative industry,” he said.

The minister added that with the FreeTV of the DSO, Nigerians would have opportunities to watch over 60 channels with great content, at a cheaper rate, and without subscription to payTV.

L-R: Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed presenting Set-Top-Box to Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, during the Ministry’s Taskforce on Digital Switch Over’s courtesy visit to the governor at the Lagos House, Marina, on Saturday, April 17, 2021.
Presenting Governor Sanwo-Olu with the Set-Top-Box for the DSO, he said that it would also enable government to get the data of every household with television.

Mr Mohammed said that this would make the collection of television and radio licenses easier, adding that the Nigerian Broadcasting Code (NBC) had been amended to make provisions for the switch over from analog to digital.

The minister disclosed that six months after the rollout of the DSO in Lagos, the NBC would ask television stations to shut down their analog broadcast equipment, thereby making more spectrum available for data and other telecommunication services.

He stressed that the DSO was relevant to the Lagos Smart City Project and the Lagos Broadband initiative.

Mr Mohammed, therefore, urged Mr Sanwo-Olu to direct the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) to provide out-of-home boards, lamp post and other publicity support for the DSO launch for at least three months.

”Lagos State, which is the hub of the Creative Industry, will take a large share of the one million jobs to be created.

”Since FreeTV helps to provide Value Added Services, the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 LCDAs in Lagos State will be supported in the collection of Television and Radio Licenses from residents.

”With FreeTV’s push system for information services, the FreeTV platform can be used to broadcast information on Lagos State activities to all viewers.

”A major advantage of the DSO is that viewers will not pay subscription fees. Once they have acquired the Set-Top-Box and pay the once-a-year access fee, which is a token, it is free viewing all the way.

”Millions of Nigerians, who cannot afford to pay the rising subscription fees being charged by the PayTV platforms, can now enjoy the benefit of digital television. This is the meaning of bridging the digital divide,” he said.

Response
In his response, Mr Sanwo-Olu said that his administration would support the switch-over, as it would enhance job creation and content development.

He said that the DSO would also provide opportunity for government to use the content coming out of it to inform and engage with the citizens, as well as bringing governance closer to the people.

The governor advised the Ministerial Taskforce to make the FreeTV box and after sale support easily accessible.

”The movement from analogue set up that we currently have to digital is apt and it speaks to the reality of what we have today.

”Everywhere in the world, technology is now a fundamental and critical deliverable of government. It presents an opportunity for citizens to have access to local, national and international space.

”As a forward looking state, we are in partnership and we see it as bringing the future to our citizens, so we do not have a problem with it at all.

”Even for us as a state, we have been developing what we call a metropolitan fiber optics to provide fiber connectivity as one of the solutions for our citizens to have access to cheaper data.

”We will support the DSO. We will help. We want Lagos to continue to set the space for the nation. We will help our people to be exposed to modern and international best practices. We will be willing to work with you and ensure that we deliver jointly on April 29,” he said. (NAN)

The federal government and some private firms have planned to build Ashama 200 megawatts (MW) solar power farm, which may be the largest in West Africa. The Minister of Power, Mamman Sale who spoke in Lagos, said when it is completed, “it will serve as the biggest utility solar project not only in the country but the West African region.” Sir Don Ubani; KSC, JP Norrenberger launches Islamic Fund Mamman, who was represented by his policy adviser, Abba Aliyu, said the project would be developed in partnership with Singapore-based renewable energy firm, B&S Power and SunnyFred Global. He said it would be located on about 304 hectares of land in Ashama village, Aniocha South of Delta State as part of the government’s Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative. Minister said solar was in the past believed to be too costly but noted that in the last decade the development cost of solar technology has dropped by more than 80 per cent. “With that, installations at both a utility scale and consumer level have been increasing. “Energy storage technology is also becoming cheaper, and as a result could help consumers to access cost-effective, off-the-grid capabilities,” he said. He explained that the federal government had launched vision 30:30:30 to deliver 30 gigawatts (GW) of electricity with 30 per cent renewable energy by 2030, adding, “This is a key focus of the Nation’s electrification strategy to avail Nigerians reliable, sustainable and affordable power.” Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Abubakar Sambo said diversifying into solar would bridge the electricity supply gap in the country in addition to generate employment through the value chain He said, “It is possible for only solar PV to produce 11,575MW in 2030; 60,310MW in 2040 and 99,658MW in 2050. https://dailytrust.com/fg-plans-200mw-solar-power-largest-in-w-africa mynd44 oam4j lalasticlala

The Federal Government is set to send 300 Nigerians to Portugal to study railway engineering, the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi has disclosed.

This is in addition to the 300 sent to China in 2019.

According to Amaechi, the 300 to be sent to Portugal will study the technology in the building of Kano-Maradi rail line.

The Minister disclosed this via a Twitter post on Monday ahead of the ground-breaking for the construction of the rail line.

He said, “In 2019, we sent 300 Nigerians to China for training in Railway Engineering.

“This year, we’ll be sending another 300 to Portugal to study the technology in the building of the Kano-Maradi rail-line, which is purely European.”

“The ground-breaking ceremony would formally kick off work on the 284km standard gauge rail project to be undertaken by Messrs Mota-Engil Nigeria Ltd, a Portuguese firm.

“The Project traverses Kano-Dambatta-Kazaure-Daura-Mashi-Katsina-Jibiya-Maradi in Niger Republic.

The line, according to the Minister, has been designed to pass through major cities, towns and villages without dividing them to facilitate public transportation and stimulate the development of the agricultural economy and manufacturing industries along the corridor.

The project is planned to have a total of 15 stations including Maradi which comprises two main stations in Kano and Katsina, three medium stations in Kazaure, Daura and Jibiya, three small stations in Shagalle, Dambatta and Mashi, with other Halt stations at the Airport, Kunya Dube, Muduru, Daddara, Anoal Mata and Maradi.

“The rail line which has a branch line to Kano-Dutse is important because of it potential in harnessing raw materials and agro products along the corridor.

The ground breaking which will be done by Mr. President Muhammadu Buhari will be attended by the Minister of Transportation of Niger Republic, Governors, Ambassadors, Ministers of both countries and other stakeholders in the sector.

Federal Government on Saturday flagged-off the disbursement of N20,000 grant for Rural Women Project and Symbolic Disbursement to no fewer than 3,500 women across Ogun state.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, while flagging off the programme, explained that the women were carefully selected from different rural parts of the state.

Farouq who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Bashir Nura Alkali said the initiative is part of the programmes line up for the National Social Investment Programme as a strategy for reducing poverty and enhancing social inclusion.

The minister further said the ministry ” is working tirelessly to address some of the socioeconomic problems that are bedeviling all parts of the country by strengthening the humanitarian-development-peace nexus” adding that the grant is expected to increase income and productive assets of target beneficiaries.

She noted that the grant will generally contribute towards improving their living standard.

The Minister said: “the Grant for Rural Women programme was introduced in 2020 to sustain the social inclusion agenda of President Buhari’s Administration. It is consistent with the President’s now national vision of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years. It is designed to provide a one-off grant to some of the poorest and most vulnerable women in rural and peri-urban areas of the country.

125, 000 to benefit nationwide

“A cash grant of N20,000.00 will be disbursed to about 125,000 poor women across the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory. Our target in Ogun State is to disburse the grant to about 3,500 beneficiaries across all Local Government Councils.

“We believe with the complementary effort of the State Government, the target beneficiaries will all be adequately covered within the next few days. I am optimistic that with the support and cooperation of Your Excellency and other stakeholders present here, we will remain on track to improving the livelihood of the ordinary Nigerians.

“To the beneficiaries, Let me however reiterate that this money belongs to you and you alone. It is meant for you to use in any small business venture you deem fit and that will improve your lives.”

In her remarks, the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Noimot Salako-Oyedele commended the federal government for its efforts in lifting many vulnerable out of poverty.

The deputy governor noted that the state will continue to make available grants and opportunities that will benefit the residents of the state.

She however advised the beneficiaries to invest the grant wisely by using it to set up small businesses.

Kano State Government Thursday began payment of compensation to landowners to kick-start the federal government’s N4 billion solar project for the industrial hub in the Kumbotso area of the state. The project, a 10 megawatts (MW) solar power, was conceived by the federal government as a result of the importance of generation and supply of electricity in the country to the economic development of the states. While handing over the over N42 million compensation to the over 100 beneficiaries at the palace of the District Head of Kumbotso, the contact person of the project in Kano, Dr. Jibrilla Mohammed said the contribution of the state government was to provide the necessary facility including the over 43 hectares of land for the establishment of the project. Mohammed, who is also the MD/CEO of Kano State Investment and Properties Ltd (KSIP), said the federal government gave the responsibility of managing the project to the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) and “the project has already been paid for completely, over N4 billion. However, the arrangement is that while the federal government has taken 100 per cent of the cost of the project, the state and the local government are supposed to contribute. “A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) was formed called Askay Solar Power Ltd and 80 per cent of the shares go to the federal government while the states and local governments get 15 per cent and five per cent.” https://dailytrust.com/fg-begins-n4bn-kano-solar-project mynd44 jam4j lalasticlala

Two bandits’ groups clashed at Illela village of Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State, leaving many of them dead and many others injured.

The clash, between the Mani Sarki camp and Dankarami supported by Abu Rada camp, occurred last Thursday.

Sources told our correspondent that Sarki, now a repentant bandit, had accepted the government’s amnesty and was seen as an outcast by many other camps in the forests.

Genesis of the clash

It was gathered that his acceptance of the amnesty forced Sarki to relocate to Illela village to begin a new life, but some of his boys refused to move with him.

A source said: “Some bandits led by one Dan Da from Alhaji Dankarami gang had carried out an attack in Illela area, but that the other gang repelled them, causing them to abandon their weapons, including anti-aircraft gun which were all taken away by the attackers as booty. That infuriated them and they’ve not forgotten it.

“Secondly, a younger brother to Sarki Mani had, at one time, kidnapped the wife of one of the men from the Dangwate side and he was paid N500,000 ransom before he released her.

Sibling, wife of gang leader killed

Other sources said Sarki’s younger brother, identified as Chirwa, and his wife were killed while three others – Kabiru, Tanimu, Suleiman – were injured and presently receiving treatment in Katsina town.

The two factors were said to have contributed to the buildup of hostilities and fueled enmity between both factions. It was also learnt that the Sarki-led faction had prevented some bandits from entering the area to carry out attacks or even take their livestock for feeding despite the abundance of fodder in the area.

According to reports, Dankarami, Dangwate and Mai Komi launched a reprisal attack to retrieve their anti-aircraft gun, said to be worth N5m.

They were said to have entered Illela area around 5 pm on Thursday in their numbers. According to some residents, there were more than 300 armed men.

Sources said on their arrival, they began shooting indiscriminately in the village unknown to them that the Sarki-led gang was already aware of their mission.

“A clash of interest”

Another source, however, said it was a clash of interests between those in support of a peace deal with the government and those against it.

“One of the Sarki-led members, Mani, who is in favour of a peace deal has left the forest and settled in Illela but did not surrender his weapons to the government. So, he is one of the targets of those who are not in favour of the peace deal.

“So, what brought the Dangwate faction to Illela was to get that man. When they came they began a house-to-house search in the bid to get him.

“When they got to the house of Sarkin Pawa Mu’azu, who is the leader of butchers, they found a Dane gun and suspected that he was amongst the vigilantes, who are also their enemies.

“He told them he was not a vigilante but they shot and killed him.

“They also injured four other persons – Kabiru, Tanimu, Nuhu and Sulaiman – in the village, and they are now receiving treatment in a hospital”.

The source said the attackers spent about eight hours operating in the village, where they set vehicles and shops ablaze, and carted away many valuables, “but without accomplishing their mission of getting Mani who is in favour of peace with the government.”

It was said that they went back to the forest and engaged the Dankarami-led gang and killed scores of them. Some said more than 100 were killed, including children.

“Dankarami himself only narrowly escaped death because he was shot on the hand,” a source said.

On whether there was security presence during the incident, the source said “they did not come because they knew it was a fight between bandits and not with the community members.”

The source said many were killed, but that he could not specify the number.

When contacted, the police spokesman in Katsina, SP Gambo Isah, said investigation was ongoing.

PoliticsPolice To Get New Salary, Recruits 18,360 Community Policing Officers by ManirBK(op): 11:08am On Jan 27, 2021
The inspector-general of police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu
said 18, 360 personnel have been recruited,
screened, vetted and trained as
community policing officers (CPOs).
Adamu stated this at a one-day
workshop to sensitise members of the public on community
policing in Abuja.
This is even as the acting chairman of the National Salaries
and Wages Commission (NSWC), Ekpo Nta, said a new
salary structure for policemen would soon be unveiled.
Nta, who was represented by the secretary to the
commission, Engr David Nyikyaa said all documentation in
respect to the improved salary structure for the police have
been completed
and awaiting submission to the
president for approval.
But on the recruitment of the Police officers, IGP Adamu
said the
recruitment exercise for the CPOs
was conducted in two batches.
A breakdown according to the states showed that Zamfara
has the highest number with 2, 550, which the IGP attributed
to the security crisis while the FCT had the least with 96.https://leadership.ng/police-recruit-18-360-for-community-policing/
