Art, Graphics & VideoGermany To Return 7000 Benin Artefacts To Nigeria In October, Build Museum by ManirBK(op): 11:57am On Jul 27, 2021
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said Germany will repatriate to Nigeria in October over 7,000 artefacts plundered from Benin Kingdom by the European country.

The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, announced this at the inaugural Nigerian Cultural Show exhibiting the nation’s diverse cultural heritage, sites and traditional festivals at the Cultural Centre of Nigeria House in New York, United States of America (U.S.A).

Aduda also said the reparation of the artefacts would go with building an ultramodern museum in Edo State and the training of some curators to man the artefacts.

He said Nigeria had reached an advanced stage of discussions with Germany to return thousands of different pieces of Benin bronzes back to the country.

The Nigerian official said the ministry had been at the forefront, alongside relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), to facilitate the repatriation of thousands of Benin artefacts from the Republic of Germany.

“We are working with relevant MDAs. We have had several high-level meetings with the Republic of Germany and we are at a stage where thousands of art works are to be returned to Nigeria,”

“There are over 7,000 different pieces of artefacts that Republic of Germany wants to give back to Nigeria,”
he said.

Aduda added: “We have talked deep into this that the reparation is not only at giving back, but they are coming to put a modern-day museum in Edo State. They are training 25 curators who will man the museum for sustainability.

“We have gone far and we are thinking that this will be concluded in October this year.

“We are hoping it will be a window to reach out to other European countries to return to us what was taken from us years back,” he said.

Good development anything that will boost the economy that will create job oppoturnity to our unemploy youth is welcome.

BusinessUK Launches New Scheme To Boost Nigerian Trade, Create Jobs by ManirBK(op):
The United Kingdom (UK) Government has
launched the Developing Countries Trading
Scheme (DCTS) a consultation on new
trading rules that will help countries like
Nigeria grow its trade and build back better
and help British businesses and consumers
at the same time.According to a statement issued by the UK
mission in Lagos, the DCTS is a major
opportunity to grow free and fair trade with
developing nations. The proposed scheme
will apply to 70 qualifying countries,
including Nigeria, and include improvements
such as lower tariffs and simpler rules of
origin requirements for countries exporting
to the UK, allowing countries to diversify
their exports and grow their economies.
Speaking of the Scheme, UK Foreign
Secretary Dominic Raab said “Cutting tariffs
for poorer countries enables them to trade
their way to genuine independence and I’m
proud we lead the world in offering that
opportunity.”
Also speaking, International Trade Secretary
Liz Truss said “Trade fundamentally
empowers people and has done more than
any single policy in history to lift millions of
people around the world out of poverty.
Now the UK is an independent trading
nation we have a huge opportunity to do
things differently, taking a more liberal, pro-
trade approach that leads to growth and
opportunity.”
According to UK Trade Commissioner for
Africa, Emma Wade-Smith, “the DCTS scheme
signals the UK’s strong appetite to promote
free and fair trade. It is a demonstration of
our commitment to help boost economic
growth and prosperity in Africa, by enabling
businesses there to access the UK market
more easily. The UK is committed to
strengthening our commercial relationship
with African partners.

“The new DCTS scheme will create a
smoother path for companies to export to
the UK. I encourage the African business
community to contribute to this important
consultation. We want to hear a range of
views and perspectives, to ensure the
scheme targets those areas that will have
the greatest positive impact on growing our
bilateral trade.”
The UK Government intends for its new
scheme to be best in class, and has studied
programmes in Canada, the US, Japan and
the EU, before constructing an approach
that takes some of the strongest elements of
each and builds on them, the statement said. The consultation on the UK’s new scheme
runs for eight weeks and seeks the view of
all sectors of society, including businesses,
the public, civil society groups, consumers,
associations, partner governments and any
other interested stakeholders.
Views from Nigerian businesses and
stakeholders with an interest across the
globe can send in their responses to the
consultation via this link until the closing
date of 12 September.

The minister of special duties and inter- governmental affairs, Sen. George Akume, says President Muhammadu Buhari has executed or is executing 24 development
projects in Benue State.

Akume listed the projects on Friday while
addressing Benue APC stakeholders ahead
of their forthcoming party congresses in the
state in Makurdi.
He said Buhari had executed a total of 24
projects across the state, adding that this
was not about playing politics but stating
the “objective reality”.
According to him, some of the projects are
already completed while others were at
various stages of completion.
He listed the projects to include the N2.08b
Zaki Biam Power Sub-station in Ukum LG;
Loko-Oweto bridge; Adoka-Naka-Makurdi
road; Makurdi-Yadev-Ugbema road; Otukpo-
Aliade road, and dualisation of Keffi-Lafia-
Makurdi road.

Others are Makurdi and Katsina-ala bridges;
3.35km Idye flood control project; 8.25MW
solar hybrid power plant at JS Tarka

Federal University of Health Sciences,
Otukpo.
Akume added that the projects also include
the establishment of Federal Polytechnic
Wannue and Federal College of Education
Odugbo, award of contract for the
rehabilitation of Gboko-Ameladu road,
among others. The former governor of Benue and minority
leader of the senate further said the APC had
not failed Nigerians as the party had
advanced the education sector as well as
huge investments in infrastructure, among
others.
He said even though the party inherited an
economy that was already heading deep
into recession in 2015, it still had to bail out
states to pay salaries.
On the forthcoming party congresses,
Akume assured members of free and fair
congresses in the state, adding that the
people would decide their candidates in the
coming 2023 general elections.
Earlier in his welcome address, the state
caretaker chairman, Mr Abba Yaro, assured
of free and fair party congresses.

Supporters of Yoruba Nation have vowed not to relent in their campaign for self-determination, declaring they will present their case at the 76th UN General Assembly in September.

The Nation reports the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination groups, Ilana Omo Oodua, had endorsed the ongoing petition being pushed by the Nigerian Indigenous Nationalities Alliance for Self-Determination (NINAS), which urged the Federal Government to conduct a referendum.

One of the leaders of Ilana Omo Odua, Prof. Wale Adeniran, in a zoom conversation organised by UK-based Heritage Multimedia TV on Tuesday evening monitored by The Nation, explained the UN General Assembly would be an opportunity to explain the Yoruba Nation agitation to world leaders.

Adeniran, a pioneer Commissioner of Education in Osun State, and former Director of Institute of African Studies at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife disclosed he would speak to Prof. Banji Akintoye with respect to participating in the session as parts of efforts to consolidate the ongoing struggle.

Checks by The Nation shows that the 76th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 76) will open on Tuesday, 14 September 2021 at New York, USA.

The first day of the high-level General Debate will be Tuesday, 21 September 2021 and session will end Thursday, 30 September 2021.

Adeniran said: “You’ve hit it right in front of the head, that’s a golden opportunity for us to present our case forcefully, before the entire world.

“So that one week, impress it on all Yoruba people all over the world to descend on New York, and the UN general assembly.

“I am going to point out to Prof. Akintoye that we would have to be part of the event in US.”

While giving an update of the Yourba Nation petition submitted to the International Criminal Court (ICC), he said: “The ball is in our court to begin to push our case and continue to shout it.

“We’ve submitted our letter and it has been acknoweled, it is now left for us to embark on aggressive propaganda for the ICC to look into case, you know they are humans too.

“That we have filed a petition, is not sufficient, we have to keep making noise about it.”

Akintoye, who spoke at the virtual session, charged all supporters not give up on the struggle.

While he commended the efforts of media in supporting the struggle, he expressed dismay over those spreading false rumors and false reportage about Sunday Igboho.

the governors, and other leaders in their

facing the country.
Mr Tinubu spoke in a statement in Lagos
on Monday.
“By so doing, together we can enjoy the

“This Eid, we must, therefore, beseech
Almighty Allah to protect the weak, feed
the poor, and give us the courage,
wisdom to subdue and defeat those who
would do violence and destruction to the

“We pray for our gallant soldiers and
other security agents confronting these
agents of evil people.
“We pray for the unity and stability of this

The former governor asked Muslims to
dedicate themselves to greater adherence
and obedience to the compassionate and
spiritually nourishing commands of Allah.
He encouraged the Muslim faithful never
to forget the reason for Eid-el- Kabir and
to reach out to give solace and succour to
those unable to help themselves.
“I extend my warmest greetings to our
Muslim brothers and sisters in Nigeria and

“We give utmost gratitude to Almighty
Allah SWT for His munificent blessings and
abiding love for all mankind.
“To be a good Muslim is to be a caring

show brotherly concern and compassion
to all,” he said.
Mr Tinubu, one of the leaders of All

all to adhere even more closely to Allah’s

SportsBarcelona Use Ronaldo Poster To Remind Players About Covid-19 Protocols by ManirBK(op): 10:03pm On Jul 19, 2021
You'd be forgiven for assuming that
Cristiano Ronaldo is persona non grata at
Barcelona given his legendary status with
bitter rivals Real Madrid, where he became
their all-time top goal scorer before joining
Juventus in 2018.
Ronaldo scored 20 goals in 34 appearances
against the Catalans during his nine-year
stint at the Bernabeu, with two league titles
and four Champions Leagues among the 15
trophies he helped them win in that time.

However, Barcelona still use the Portugal
superstar as motivation of sorts for their
players three years after he ended his year
in, year out rivalry with Barca and Lionel
Messi by swapping Spain for Italy.
Posted up on a wall at Barca's Joan Gamper
training ground is a cutting of a headline
about Ronaldo taken from the Spanish daily
sports paper AS, which reads: "Cristiano
positive again for COVID-19 and will miss
Barcelona game."
The headline dates from last October, when
Ronaldo was forced to miss last season's
Champions League group-stage clash
between Juventus and Barca in Turin after
returning a positive COVID-19 test and
needing to self-isolate.
The Ronaldo headline has been put on
display to serve as a reminder to Barca's
players about the importance of following all
of the guidance and protocols to avoid
contracting COVID-19 and the implications
of not taking them seriously enough.
According to AS, underneath the cutting a
statement also reminds players and staff
that "the competition is at stake" and, in red
letters, "the rules are to be met."
Much was made of the potential reunion of
Ronaldo and Messi when the sides were
pitted against each other for the first time in
two years. Unfortunately, having just
returned from international duty with
Portugal, Ronaldo tested positive for the
coronavirus in the weeks leading up to the
aforementioned Champions League tie, and
he did not return a negative test in time to
feature in the European game.
With Juve depleted of their star man, Barca
won the game 2-0 thanks to goals from
Ousmane Dembele and Messi, who wrapped
things up with a stoppage-time penalty.
To underline how much of a loss Ronaldo
was in that game, by the time of the return
fixture at Camp Nou last December, he was
available again and scored two goals in a
3-0 win for Juve that sealed their place as
Group G winners.https://www.espn.com/soccer/blog-the-toe-poke/story/4434999/barcelona-have-cristiano-ronaldo-headline-in-locker-room-to-remind-players-to-follow-covid-19-protocols?device=featurephone

An Instagram photo of Lionel Messi holding the Copa America trophy following Argentina's win over Brazil has become the most liked sports photo on the social media platform, surpassing a record 20 million likes.

Messi celebrated his first major title with Argentina as the Albiceleste lifted the Copa America after a 1-0 win over Brazil at the Maracana stadium on July 10.

Messi posted the picture with the caption:
What a beautiful madness! This is unbelievable! Thank you, God! We are the champions!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CRLJN-or7DE/?utm_medium=copy_link

The post broke the previous record of 19.8 million likes that was held by Cristiano Ronaldo after he paid tribute to Diego Maradona following his death.

Ronaldo shared a black and white photograph of himself with Maradona and wrote: "Today I'm saying goodbye to a friend and the world is saying goodbye to an eternal genius. One of the best of all-time. An unparalleled magician. He leaves too soon, but he leaves a legacy without limits and an emptiness that will never be filled. Rest in peace, ace. You will never be forgotten."

Messi, a six-time Ballon d'Or winner, was voted the top player of the Copa America after his four goals and five assists in the competition.

The Argentina captain is expected to sign a new contract with Barcelona soon.
