Abagworo: Military rule is better than some democracy. I was born during Buhari military era and grew through Babangida and Abacha. Nigeria was safer and less tribalistic. if buy your safer and better I can categorically tell you.. All the civilian government post Abacha were way better than Abacha regime you could av say Abacha regime was better, safer etc because by then you had no worries, your parents had the obligation to shield you from the reality of life then.. But let me put it to you no government I repeat none of the administration from 1960 till date was better than the one it preceded.. So saying any military govt was better is complete fallacy.. If we were under milatary govt heck am sure me and you won't be having this convoy.. This forum would have been banned by now, you won't have anyone to even complain anything to.. Please don't pray for it plus they are very bad economic managers. |

Unperturbedpota: Smh
Because he is refusing to publish all the propaganda you pushed him anymore.
For years you guys used the media to sell lies.. lies upon lies about Nigeria and the economy.
Foreign investors believed and made the mistake of coming here to invest then they lost billions.
From Jumia to Konga to bata ro nestle to Glaxo to Lufthansa to Kellogs to ToyRUs to Lego to Walmart to Pizza hut , etc I could go on and on listing foreign investors whis believed the lies from the Lagos Chamber of commerce then..
You sold Bloomberg et al the usual lies that the Nigerian chamber of commerce spits out daily backed by the propaganda from the Nigerian bureau of statistics.
All false fake data based on a 200 million population, what you didn't tell them which they all later realized is that there has been no real census so we don't know if our population is 200 million or 50 million.
What they also realised was that of that fake 200 million population there is no middle class only a 1% elite and a 99% extremely poor class.
So now they all got angry and started pulling out their Forex. It's a matter of time before Dstv leaves too, I foresee them selling off to a local partner and devesting from the Nigerian economy. This year's Big brother Naija has recorded the lowest revenue ever!!
The politicians wasted years building concrete castles like Eko Atlantic city which their citizens can't afford instead of investing in human capital so they can sustain the middle class . Now the middle class is extinct in Nigeria.
Companies have no customers who can purchase their products .
Starlinks has sold less here in Nigeria than Kenya. Yet we claim to have 200 million while Kenya are around 20 million people, let that sink in .
Nigeria is fast fading and the president still thinks propaganda can fly. The world has seen the truth and they have run from your economy . Kenya is growing in leaps and bounds every foreign company not found in Nigeria is in Kenya, From Microsoft to all the foreign airlines, to Lego to sharp to Sony to Asus to Siemens to Atlus to Ubisoft to every single foreign investor you can think of have offices in Kenya not Nigeria.
Until the citizens push for good leaders Nigeria will continue crashing more and more while you open threads on Nairaland wailing and blaming others for your problems instead of facing your leaders.
For those whose brains can't understand, this is something as trivial as gokart tracks. over 10 different huge tracks setup in Kenya and are extremely profitable....
https://destinationskenya.com/top-8-best-places-for-go-karting-in-kenya/
I think Lagos had one or at most 2. They have closed up since. Because they made No profit and the economy killed them long ago, why? The citizens in Nigeria are poor and can't afford such, against Kenya where their minimum wage is better and the people have much more disposable income because Kenya has a huge middle class.
The only business in Nigeria that survives are those for the extremely poor like pure water or those that carter to the 1% rich
Nigeria economy is finished this issh is deep. We must wake up. |

Penguin2: Lol!
I’m gonna wait to confirm that this is not fake news.
But in the meantime, if it’s true, then congratulations to Tinubu, ECOWAS and their brainless warmongers. They now have more countries to invade.
After invading Niger, they will invade Gabon. Or are they going to invade Niger without invading Gabon? They have to mad not to.
I’m so happy right now, if this news is true. Because I’m sure ECOWAS was already waiting to congratulate President Bongo for winning Third Time in a “free and fair” election even though the report of the Gabonese Electoral Umpire shutting down their Electronic Infrastructure, like INEC did, and even removing names of opponents from ballot papers has been everywhere.
Another reason I like this is that the PEPT will see what is happening in other countries because of disputed election. People are waiting on them to do justice, failure of which no one knows what the outcome will be.
Democracy is fast becoming unpopular in Africa and it’s because of poor Electoral management. The situation where votes no longer reflect the wishes of the majority of the voters, their will be disenchantment with the people seeking alternative way out.
If a coup happens in Nigeria today, Nigerians will celebrate it because we didn’t vote for the idiot in power.
If the PEPT likes, let it insult Nigerians like INEC did, let’s see what the outcome will be. Gabon is not part of ECOWAS, I just don't get it why you guys celebrate bad things just because your candidate lost an election.. Am not a fan of Bongo even tho. His father ruled Gabon for almost 40years before he died now his son want to continue his legacy of lifetime President oh well.. He sure do has a mentor in Putin. |

Politics › Re: The First Billionaire In West Africa Was An Igbo Man by masseratti: 7:21pm On Aug 27, 2023 |
Babinski: I have read various estimates of Sir Ojukwu's wealth ranging from $4 billion to $14 billion in today's monetary equivalence. All these are conjectures without backing with facts.
For reference, $1 million in 1960 is equivalent to $10 million in today's monetary worth based on purchasing power. So for Sir Ojukwu to be worth $4 billion, then he would have to be worth $400 million in 1966 at the time of his demise.
Also for reference, the Nigeria Military/ Defence Budget in 1966 was $60 million and the net worth of the Queen of England in 1966 was estimated at between $4 million to $5 million.
Nigeria's GDP in 1966 was around $5.4 billion and someone worth $400 million is at 7.4% of the GDP. That is equivalent to a personal worth of around $148 billion today with a national GDP of approximately $2 Trillion. $148 billion is more than 3 times the worth of all the companies on the Nigeria Stock Exchange today!!!
While Sir Ojukwu was no doubt the wealthiest businessman of his time in Nigeria, it is doubtful that he was worth as much as $400 million. The upper value of $14 billion in today's monetary value which would translate to him being worth around $1.4 billion in 1966 is even more wild and implausible. The richest man in the world in 1966 was Jean Paul Getty at $1.2 billion.
There is no doubt however that Sir Ojukwu was about the richest Nigerian at the time of his death.
The Igbo Apprenticeship System can be traced back to the 15th Century and definitely was not introduced by Sir Odumegwu Ojukwu in the 19th Century.

See confidence in ignorance I feel like crying but at the same time, your confidence is amusing. Why was CBN gov being held responsible for naira redesign and not the head of NSMPC? At least that should give you a pointer to how ridiculous you sound Change your moniker from maserrati to suzuki abeg the confidence is so much there because you fail to understand when someone says the word "primary". Al central bank world all over, if you can learn your history well was not printing money. They keep money and bank it for the Government ruling, be it monarchy or democracy /military. They were not in production of gold and silvers.. Basically printing of legal tenders or buying and selling of FX is just a secondary duties the CBN added to it's baggages.. But it's not necessarily it's core duties... The mints can print paper money, CBN can do without trading in FX and face fiscal policy and core Banking fit the State. |
Politics › Re: Naira Crumbles To 920/$, Fuel Marketers Push For Fresh Price Hike by masseratti: 1:15pm On Aug 25, 2023 |
Kukutente23: That's but correct bros The primary job of CBN is to issue and maintain legal tender for the country this means you know nothing about banking, don't display ignorance online.. All Central Banks or Reserve Banks of a sovereign all over the world, do one thing in common... Be the Banker to the sovereign, you ask your self what are primary duties of a bank? To issue and maintenance of legal tender is not one of them "primarily", the Mint is there to do that.. We have Nigerian mint company, that's the people whose sole responsibility is to design, print, maintenance legal tenders, stamps etc.. |

PLUS NIGERIA DOES NOT NEED BRICS.
NIGERIA IS AFRICA’S LARGEST ECONOMY, AND IS PROJECTED TO BECOME THE WORLD’S 3RD MOST POPULOUS COUNTRY BY 2050 AFTER INDIA AND CHINA, MEANING SHE WILL BE AN INVESTMENT MAGNET FOR THE WORLD’S COMPANIES IN THE YEARS AHEAD.
SO BRICS WILL BE BEGGING NIGERIA TO JOIN SOON ENOUGH. a poor population like ours is not an investment magnets... High population we are very quick to throw up is actually our big problem, look at the land mass of China, India and USA it's freaking big, you can have close to 12 Nigeria in China, our population density is a disaster in waiting, we should actually be. Nothing like official rates again, this media sensation in naira dollars exchange rates at the black market helps no one abeg.... They should rest.. Also marketers going to the press to say this and that should also rest.. The market has been deregulated. Anyone of them is free to go and buy at any rate and sell. Stop shouting on pages on newspaper if the business is not conducive for you.try another thing. No one she fix the price of fuel anymore as a government or a group.

XAUBulls: You made very valid points there.
But did you know that most of those illegal FX black marketers are not originally from the Far North of Nigeria? They are majorly from other West African countries of Niger, Mali, Senegal, Guinea (Conakry).
It's gonna be very easy to get them and their very greedy Nigerian collaborators out of the way because President Tinubu is from the South. Tinubu has no choice but to deliver by showing his fangs, and deal with all the economic enemies of Nigeria and NOT give off weak vibes.
With the aid of the CBN, all the Intelligence Agencies and a restructured DSS, the illegal black marketers around Nigeria will be tamed!
All the best. you can't do fight things like that.. It's a very useless worthless crusade.. Best way to run them out of business is to play their game and cut their prices by selling and buying at their rates.. Why would I buy $ from aboki or sell to aboki when the price is the same in the bank? |

XAUBulls: It is the so-called black marketers (who are illegal worldwide by the way) that should be forcibly banned and ruthlessly jailed after court trials for illegal speculations in FX. No where in the respectable countries are illegal speculators in FX allowed to gain footholds!
The BDCs have also now been restored by the CBN after Godwin Emefiele stopped their FX markets participation, and they will have to do proper accounting of their daily, weekly and monthly business activities to the CBN as a major condition. the problem is if you go against black market it will have a political problem, most of the black marketers are northerners any government that seek to prosecute them will have issues, best way to run them out of business is to buy and sell at their price.. Same way petrol black marketers have gone out of business, they will also go out of business, if the I & Ẹ window is maintained and the naira is not truly floats with markets forces determining the price, it will be open to round tripping as speculations hence it's fall also. |

DeLaRue: Government doesn't control black market price. It is up to the buyer and seller to deal at whatever price suits them.
The government only has direct influence on the I & E window which is around N780. Big companies and many others who have legitimate reasons can buy dollars from banks.
Many of those desperately buying at any price on the black market are using hundreds of billions stolen under Mr Buhari's government. They can't come out openly to buy through official channels.
If they like, they should push the black market rate to N1500, it is up to them.
The government can only focus on the I & E market. that I and Ẹ window is an opportunity for some people to do round tripping. They should abolish it and trade strictly one the black market rate.. I assure you.. Dollar will crash once that is done. |
