Angry Messi Refuses To Collect Copa America Third Place Medal, Accuses Referee Of Corruption After Receiving Red Card

A visibly angry Lionel Messi skipped the Copa America medal ceremony yesterday and accused referees of “corruption” following Argentina’s failure to win the tournament and and his rare red card in Saturday’s 2-1, third-place, playoff victory over Chile.


Minutes before half-time, Messi clashed with Gary Medel after the Chile defender had shielded the ball out of play near his goal. The two players aggressively bumped chests a number of times before match referee Mauro Diaz de Vivar intervened and immediately flashed red cards for both.

The straight red marked the first time the Barcelona forward had been sent off in a senior game for club or country since a red in his debut with the national team against Hungary in 2005.

After the match, Messi, who didn’t collect his third-place medal with his teammates, ranted about the officiating at the tournament, suggesting his red card was a result of his harsh criticism of officials following the semifinal loss against Brazil in which Argentina saw two penalty claims denied.

“It’s a play that happens a lot. [Medel] always plays to the limit. I think the referee overreacted. With a yellow card for both of us, everything would be over. I feel lot of anger because I think I did not deserve that red card because I think we were playing a very good game.

Police in Oldham’s Neighbourhood, Greater Manchester, England, were shocked to discover a major cannabis farm in a police station.
Failsworth Police Station was the base for Oldham’s Neighbourhood Policing Team until it was closed six years ago due to government cuts.
On Thursday, July 4, passing officers noticed that the building had been left insecure and stepped inside to investigate.
Inside they discovered the remnants of “huge cannabis production” operation.
They said that the entire first floor and loft space of the disused cop shop had been given over to the cultivation of more than 1,000 plants.
When the officers searched the premises, though, only root balls, soil and empty pots remained.
A post on GMP Failsworth and Hollinwood’s Facebook page said: “It is believed the grow was ‘taxed’ in the early hours of this morning where all the cannabis plants had been removed.

Varsity Lecturer Celebrates 55 Outstanding Students With Tubers of Yam, Coconut

A university lecturer has honoured 55 of his students by gifting them 55 tubers of yam and coconut, for excelling in various class activities.

The unnamed lecturer in one of the state Universities in Nigeria organized the event on the platform of Massmediang awards, in collaboration with an online news platform Massmediang.com.

The students were part of the Magazine cover concept/design competition organized by the lecturer and 55 of them emerged with outstanding entries in various positions.
The Overall best student was Paschal Enujekwute who won four awards in the competition. He received a yam tuber and coco nut as the overall best while other students were given one yam tuber each for appearing as finalists in the competition.

The unnamed lecturer also played keyboard for the students which according to him, was a way of saying he was proud of them.

The students also had ice cream refreshment during the event.

The award/recognition ceremony took place on Thursday, July 3, at Perfides Hotel, Anambra state.

Charming Student, Ezinne Okeke, Wins Overall Best In Television Advertising, Gets Coconut and Yam Tuber
A 300 level student of Mass Communication, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojuwku University (COOU), Miss Ezinne Okeke, has won the overall best student in Television advertising after a keenly contested event involving several other students.

Miss Okeke emerged the best after her group advert which she coordinated became the best among all submissions, including her selection as the best actress in all the advertisements submitted for the competition.

The event was organized by Massmediang.com, a platform which promotes excellence in media and communication studies.

This is the second time Miss Okeke is emerging overall best in advertising, as she was also honoured in 2018 as the best in visual advertising.
Two other students, Nkechi Amunike and Kelvin Lazarus, also won awards as best creative team coordinators.
The award ceremony which held on Wednesday, July 3, was coordinated by their lecturer who decided to honour them for leading teams that produced the three best television advertisements in their class.

The video shows a journalist getting attacked by a Pakistani leader during a TV debate has gone massively viral online. Masroor Ali Siyal of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party attacked fellow panelist and journalist Imtiaz Khan Faran during a live TV show on Monday night, media monitoring website Journalism Pakistan reported.

In the video, the two were first seen arguing verbally before Mr Siyal got up and attacked Mr Khan, president of the Karachi Press Club. Mr Siyal was captured on camera first pushing Mr Khan to the ground, and then punching and slapping him. The two were separated by other guests on the show and crew members.

Amusingly, after the fight, Mr Siyal took his seat on the panel again. A few minutes later, the Karachi Press Club president also came back to the studio and the taping of the show resumed like nothing had happened.

According to ABC News, Doha Muhammed was caught by 17-year-old Feuzi Zabaat, who noticed that she was about to fall down from the window of her home. The incident occurred in the Fatih district of Istanbul, Turkey last Thursday.

Mr Zabaat quickly positioned himself on the pavement to catch the toddler before she could hit the pavement, preventing a certain tragedy. His presence of mind ensured that the 2-year-old survived the fall without any injuries, and he has since been hailed a hero on social media, where the CCTV footage has been widely shared.

The sheriff in Forsyth County, Georgia, on Tuesday released body cam footage showing the moment that deputies found a newborn girl alive inside a plastic bag that had been abandoned in a wooded area.

Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office shared video of the June 6 discovery on social media. A local resident told deputies he heard crying from his home, but at first thought it was an animal.
The clip shows a deputy opening the plastic bag and finding the infant, who is then swaddled in blankets.

The investigation into tracing the infant’s mother and whoever may have dumped the child is ongoing. Police said the girl, who has been temporarily named Baby India, is now “thriving” in the care of the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services.

“We release this footage in hopes to receive credible information on the identity of Baby India and to show how important it is to find closure in this case,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, has prevented any possible casualties due to impending collapse of one the flyovers built by former governor, Rochas Okorocha.
Recall that sometime last week there were viral photos of a flyover in Owerri, the state capital which had signs of dilapidation, posing a danger to motorists and pedestrians in the state.

That flyover which is located at Orji mechanic village has now been sealed from public use by the state government.
The flyover was built by Senator representing Imo West Constituency, Rochas Okorocha while governor of the state. It has started cracking from the sides and has been blocked at the entrances with heaps of sand.

The government has also warned motorists not to ply the bridge again because it is no longer safe for use.

An Argentinean local court ordered a 70-year-old man to pay his ex-wife 8 million pesos ($173,000, about N62,280,000)) as compensation for 27 years of house work.

Judge Victoria Famá made the landmark ruling after taking into consideration that the elderly couple’s roles had been well-determined during their 30-year marriage, with the woman, identified only as M.L., taking care of the household, while the husband went to work. Despite holding a degree in economics, the woman put aside her professional career to raise her children and take care of the house. By the time M.L.’s husband left her, she was already 60-years-old, too old to even be considered on the job market.
“After 27 years of marriage the accused abandoned his wife when she turned 60 years old, the age at which women obtain retirement benefits, being excluded from the labour market,” Judge Famá’s ruling stated. “The economic dependence of wives on their husbands is one of the central mechanisms through which women are subordinated in society.”

The Argentinian couple separated in 2009, and divorced two years later. Since then, the woman has experienced financial difficulties due to her inability to find a job and receiving meager retirement benefits, while her husband reportedly “lived a good life”.

Nenette, one of the world’s oldest Borneo orangutans in captivity, celebrated her 50th birthday at a zoo in Paris, where she has lived almost all her life.
Birthday cake, wrapped boxes and visitors singing “Happy Birthday” were part of the party held Sunday for Nenette at Menagerie, a zoo in the Jardin des Plantes gardens.

At the emergency department of Vanderbilt University’s medical center, 17 women are all pregnant, expecting babies within the same period. This includes 14 nurses, two doctors and one social worker.

The story began this way. One of the staffers, Hillary Slusser thought she had the flu.

She hadn’t been feeling well for a couple weeks but, after getting really sick at work, she went home and took not one, but three pregnancy tests. Just to be sure.

Imo State Government led by Emeka Ihedioha seems to have abandoned the road leading to former Governor Rochas Okorocha’s house which is currently littered with health threatening refuse.

The refuse collectors in the state have not looked towards that direction for almost three weeks.
Heaps of refuse suddenly began to appear along the road leading to Rochas Okorocha’s Rochas Foundation College of Africa, where the former is said to be residing in his estate.

Nothing has been done to evacuate the refuse in the middle of the road, making the area an eyesore.

A 34-year-old woman in Scotland had to be cut out of a children’s toy car with a bread knife on Friday after an attempt at a joke went very wrong.

Zoe Archibald had climbed into her cousin’s red and yellow Little Tikes car after joking how she thought she could fit – but ended up getting wedged inside.
“There was no way she could get herself out,” her nephew, Matthew Shepherd-Bull, told South West News Service.

The 34-year-old had attempted to climb into the tiny vehicle but when that didn’t work, it was placed over her head.

There is a raging argument among students in a creative advert class regarding the content of this giant bill board advert located in different parts of the Southeast, especially in major cities.

The advert is on Amstel Malta brand. It shows some cute ladies who are famous or excelling in their various endeavours posing nicely in a shoot. Another angle to the argument is saying that this is a bit unethical since the girls seem to be claiming they have “balls” when they are not actually men.

One other angle says the advertisement is too sexist and it dehumanizes women by saying some of the ladies look like men so they are right by saying “we’ve got balls”. This school of thought argues that the statement has nothing to do with the advertised Amstel malta brand, so the girls are indirectly being trolled as females who look like men.
