PoliticsIPOB Calls For UN Referendum. by Masterclass32(op): 12:18pm On Jul 07, 2020
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called for the United Nations(UN) supervised referendum in Nigeria for the citizens to decide where to belong.

In a statement on Monday, the IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful said the move has become necessary following decision of some ethnic groups to belong to Biafra.

He expressed happiness that many ethic groups had been declaring for Biafra.

“As they continue their propaganda battles on social media, the great family of IPOB, through Radio Biafra, continues to win over the hearts and minds of all lovers of freedom within the new 2020 territorial boundaries of Biafra.

“We have been receiving overwhelming evidence that Idoma and Igede have now taken their rightful position in the family of Biafran nations. Esan also has come home to Biafra. The new frontier is Benue, Kogi, Edo and Ondo, no longer Enugu and Anambra. We are uniting the chosen children of God under one banner.

“We must allow Nigerians make their decision as doing so would safe the nation from distegration.

“The more we delay the worse it will get for everybody. We need a UN supervised Referendum now.

“Let me use this opportunity to continue to encourage the oppressed Hausa majority in the north to sustain their new found courage in Southern Kaduna for they too shall soon taste freedom.”

PoliticsChibuike Amaechi, Ndi Igbo And 2023. by Masterclass32(op): 9:51am On Jul 06, 2020
By Ochereoma Nnanna

IN December 2012, the Item community in Abia North honoured Arumma Oteh, then Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC. I attended that ceremony in the company of the then CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi; Alex Otti, Diamond Bank GMD and other friends. Then-Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, flew in with a helicopter.

The highlight of the event, for me, was when Item High Chief, Prof. Joe Irukwu, took the microphone to personally honour and introduce Amaechi when it was his turn to say a few nice words for Arumma. Irukwu described Amaechi correctly as the “high-performing” Governor of Rivers and a “true Igbo son”. But when Amaechi took the mike he “corrected” Irukwu and emphasised: “I am an Ikwerre man!” That really ruffled feathers.

Fast-forward to the 2015 electioneering activities. Amaechi’s preferred traditional attire had changed from the Bonny/Opobo regalia to the core Igbo one of “Isi Agu” and red cap. It has remained so to date. Amaechi, one of the founding fathers of the All Progressives Congress, APC, brought Muhammadu Buhari, the party’s presidential candidate, to Aba.

They were rousingly received by the Aba paramount ruler, Eze Isaac Ikonne, who bestowed the title of “Ogbu Agu” on Buhari. Ikonne at that time was under ostracism by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, government in Abia State. The honour he gave Buhari was seen as a “message” to his jilters. Till today, the Ikonne family remains close to Buhari because they embraced him when the Igbo nation shunned him.

Amaechi addressed the APC Aba rally in pure, “central” Igbo. His hometown, Ubima, is on the border with Imo State. Amaechi, in fact, claimed that if it was an issue of ethnicity, he was Igbo and should be entrusted with Igbo votes for Buhari, unlike Jonathan who was not even Igbo. On different occasions, Amaechi said yes and no. Which do we take?

Amaechi is from Ikwerre. Therefore, he is Igbo, just as I am from Abiriba and, therefore, Igbo. Whether I accept it or not is neither here nor there. Former Rivers State Governor, Peter Odili, used to shout on rooftops that he was a “Rivers man”. But when he started running for president in 2006, Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark, reminded him that as a Ndoni man, he was Igbo and not an “authentic” Southern Minority to benefit from their agitation for the presidency.

The same thing will happen to any person from the Igbo dialect groups in the South-South who claims not to be Igbo today. The day will come when they will either voluntarily “come home” or be forcefully “sent home” where they really belong. Your cultural identity is beyond your choice. It is a providential endowment or heritage.

You cannot run from your shadow or bath to change your skin colour. Chibuike Amaechi, as an Ikwerre, is Igbo; just as other eminent Ikwerre personalities like Senator Obi Wali, Francis Ellah, HRH Eze S.N. Woluchem (the late Rebisi of Port Harcourt), HRH Eze Chukwuemela Nnam-Obi, High Chief Okogbule Wonodi, Barr. Uche Okwukwu and other Ikwerre sons who were/are hardcore pro-Igbo activists.

The question today is: if the political permutations in the APC favour Amaechi for the presidency in 2023 and he seeks the support of the Igbo nation, should they accept him? My answer is a resounding “Yes”! He is eminently qualified in terms of ethnic affinity, regional consanguinity and a proven record of competence.

Ordinarily, competence should stand above the rest, but are we there yet? How I wish we were! If the consideration is ethnic, I have made the point that the Ikwerre is a dialectal group of the Igbo nation. Their Igbo is even easier than my Abiriba because we (Abiribas) migrated late into Igbo land.

I strongly believe that the Igbo nation should think beyond the South East geopolitical zone when it comes to the pursuit of their strategic political interests. The South East is a copy of the defunct East Central State which was imposed on Ndi Igbo after the war to abnegate the true size of the Igbo nation. Clinging to it is like deifying what your enemy gave you as your portion. An Igbo person anywhere, irrespective of the circumstances of history, is still Igbo.

I also believe that ethnicity as an ideology is neither the original Igbo political template nor is it in the strategic political interest of the Igbo nation. It may work for some, but it will never get much for the Igbo people. Igbo need allies (just as the allies need Igbo), and they must go out and acquire them. Whether as Nigerians or Biafrans, Igbo must work with their immediate neighbours in order to command the full reckoning of the rest of Nigeria.

In 1999, retired Commodore Okoh Ebitu Ukiwe founded the Council of South-East and South-South, COSESS, with other leaders from the former Eastern Region to eschew tribalism and forge a united political front. It produced a regional alliance now popularly known as South-East and South-South, SESS. Before COSESS, the Igbo and their neighbours were fighting one another like crabs in a basket.

The SESS alliance was firmly fronted by the Igbo nation for the benefit of former President Goodluck Jonathan, an Ijaw. Till date, the Igbo remain Jonathan’s most avid sympathisers, perhaps even more than his kinsmen. This has built invaluable bridges between the Igbo, Ijaw and the Southern Minorities, even within the Biafra movements.

The Igbo should emulate the North which always subsume their individual ethnic identities and present a common political front even within their various political camps. The North is strong because of this factor. The political East (SESS) is weak and exploited because of the splinter mentality of its peoples. The South-East and South-South share almost everything in common except language and dialects. They are more of one people than even the North.

In my opinion, if the political calculations favour anyone from these areas, once the competence factor is established, they should be supported. If Amaechi runs for president in 2023 and seeks Igbo support, he is eminently qualified. Let the requisite memo of understanding be agreed. It will further unite the family. Igbo is certainly bigger than the South East!

PoliticsBiafra: Nnamdi Kanu Warned Over Alleged Threats To Kill Igbo Leaders by Masterclass32(op):
The Biafra Nations Youth League, BNYL, has warned the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, to desist from creating problems for the Igbo people and stop threatening to kill the elders who go contrary to his opinion.

Chief Ralph Uwazuruike of the Biafra Independence Movement, BIM, had recently issued a similar warning to Kanu saying that Biafra should not be realized if it would be a place where elder statesmen and religious leaders would be insulted and dehumanised.

Kanu was accused of hauling insults on Igbo leaders and religious leaders through the London-based Radio Biafra and his social media platforms.

National deputy leader of BNYL, Ebuta Takon Akor in a statement to DAILY POST on Wednesday, said such action will put the lives of the IPOB members at risk.

The BNYL warned the IPOB supporters to be mindful of any instruction they carry out sheepishly.

“He is endangering the lives of his members because we will respond this time to any assassinated attempt on any elder in the East.

“These elders maybe doing things that we don’t like because of their age, we should condemn their moves, criticise them, we don’t have to threaten them with death, or are we helping the Fulani to kill our own?

“Nwodo was not the person who collected the defense funds Biafra supporters donated worldwide, uptil now we have not seen a single trained Soldier from IPOB to combat Fulani.

“The same thing he told his members to do Anthony Nwoko and when the man was killed they denied it, even when evidence from the National Leader of BNYL, Princewill Chimezie Richard pointed to one of their Enugu Chief Security they denied and flew him to Ghana, now he has started again, it won’t be taken this time.

“The killer of Nwoko has since taken to Ghana when he was exposed by BNYL, and his family issued statements denying that their son knows nothing about it, if we are as bad as the killers would have gone against such a family.

“Nnamdi Kanu must stop forming cult groups because we will mobilise our Militant boys to confront his cultists if he is looking for internal conflict like that of South Sudan, because this has nothing to do with Biafra struggle.

“Ebuta Takon Akor said his group will continue to stand for what is right despite who is involved, adding that they have been cautioning former Niger Delta Militant Leader, Asari Dokubo to sheaths his sword recently.”

TV/MoviesHow Nollywood Demarkets Nigeria To The World - Reno Omokri by Masterclass32(op): 11:10am On Jun 21, 2020
Nollywood, the Nigerian movie industry, is by and large the brain work of people of Ndi’Igbo origin. The official birth of Nollywood can be traced to the movie, Living in Bondage, which is now studied around the world as a unique vehicle that launched a whole industry.

It was written, directed, and starred an all Igbo cast. And very little has changed since the birthing of the industry. The Igbo still dominates Nollywood. However, a weapon is only as good as the wielder.

Ndi’Igbo should have used Nollywood the way the Yoruba are using the media. Sadly, Nollywood actually works against them. It makes others perceive the Igbo, wrongly, as ritualists. It makes people wary of the Igbos in politics and business. Nollywood has been a great disservice to the Igbo nation.

Ndi’Igbo saw Nollywood as a money maker. They failed to see it as a game-changer. And now, the damage that it has done to them, within Nigeria, and to the larger Nigerian society outside Nigeria, is almost unquantifiable.

The mistake Igbos made, which the Jews in Europe and America did not make, is that they focused only on dominating Nigeria’s commercial sector, and forgot the media.

The media is like airpower. Once you have it, no one will mess with you! Why? Because the collateral damage to them will be more than their attack on you. And only a mad man fights a war he knows he is going to lose.

You use your control of the economy to reward your friends and use your power over the media to punish your enemies. Carrot and stick, that is what makes the world go round. How do you think Orji Kalu got his release? Because he is the only Igbo man that controls a national media (Daily Sun).

However, let us talk about the larger damage that Nollywood has done, not just to the Igbo, but to Nigeria.

I have been to many African and Caribbean countries. Once they know you are Nigerian, many become wary. Not because of 419. But because of juju. Nollywood has conditioned them to see all Nigerians as fetish juju people. We did this to ourselves!

True story: in 2011, Kanayo O Kanayo and I were walking in San Francisco. An American lady recognised him. I brought out my camera, thinking she wanted a photo. She screamed and said ‘you want to use my photo for juju’! That is what Nollywood has done to us!

Nollywood is itself more racist than even White Supremacists. Take Nollywood, for instance. The typical movie consists of painting African culture as fetish and evil. Then the hero goes to church and defeats the African evil. We hardly project our own cultures positively.

When I was a child, I watched Tales by Moonlight on NTA which used African culture to teach moral lessons to children in a fun manner. I remember Auntie Nkem with Nostalgia. Nollywood should learn from her. Project African culture positively.

You will never see a Bollywood movie project Indian culture the way Nollywood movies project African culture. Many of us fell in love with India and Indians because of Bollywood movies. But if an Indian watched a Nollywood movie, he would be afraid of Africa. Hollywood was used by America to market her culture and commerce to the world by glamorising America. Nollywood, on the other hand, is being used to demarket Africa to the world by demonising our culture and commerce!

The Igbo apprenticeship system is the most successful in the world bar none. Alaba International market alone generates $4 billion, according to Robert Neuwirth. Why can’t Nollywood do a movie about that and promote the Ndi’Igbo ethnic nationality, rather than this near-obsessive focus rituals and juju?

It will serve them better if they use Nollywood to project positive things about their race that are already happening. Sadly, this is not the case. Not at all. Not at all.

You can imagine a movie called The Great Tycoon, about Cosmas Maduka, based on his rise to billionaire status, from a lowly second school dropout from Nnewi, who went to Lagos with nothing but the clothes on his back after the civil war. That will be better than rituals! It will project Ndi’Igbo and Nigeria positively.

I watched The Greek Tycoon as a child, and that made me want to go to Greece to see the land of Aristotle Onassis. While in Greece, I spent close to $1000. That is what movies should do. They make you want to invest in a culture. Nollywood does the exact opposite!

Movies are make-believe. And that is what Nollywood does not understand, or if they understand it, they fail to appreciate. They are selling a fantasy that people end up believing even if it is not true. What Nollywood ought to do is project a truth worth selling, not a lie that brings money.

A notable Nollywood actor, who I happen to admire, responded to me by saying that Hollywood does shooting movies, yet tourists still go to America, hence I should leave Nollywood alone, especially as we politicians did not fix Nigeria.

First, let me say that I am guilty as charged. I was a Presidential spokesman to a President that built or repaired over 10,000KMs of roads and built 12 new universities and 165 almajiri schools as well as the super-fast Kaduna Abuja railway. We could still have done more.

However, what this Nollywood star may not have taken into account is that while Hollywood does violent movies, it balances things by producing other genres of movies, unlike Nollywood, who focus almost exclusively on the negative themes of juju and fetish practices.

As a matter of fact, Hollywood churns put more romantic comedies and science function movies than violent movies. For example, the biggest grossing Hollywood movies are Gone With the Wind, Avatar and Titanic. All of them are romantic movies.

Yet, even when Hollywood shows violent movies, the criminals are almost always apprehended by the law and made to pay for their crimes. This makes America attractive as a country with law and order. Bad things can happen, but bad people won’t win!

Nollywood should not see my exposition as criticism. I am trying to help them sell Nigeria better. When they do, they will be better able to break through the international market and ultimately make more money, which is the object of business.

As proof of my assertions, I point to The Wedding Party, The Wedding Party 2, Chief Daddy, Sugar Rush and King of Boys. These are the highest-grossing Nollywood movies, and they are not based on juju and fetish. You don’t have to go that route!

I am a patriot, and my counsel is borne out of love for my country and not out of any desire to savage anybody or industry. My value as a human being is tied to the value of Nigeria, and it is this shared national objective that moves me to make these suggestions.

PoliticsCOVID-19: Northern Elders Sending Infected Almajiris To Southeast - Ohanaeze. by Masterclass32(op): 3:11pm On May 05, 2020
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, Worldwide, OYC, has reacted to the interception of Kano State Almajiri children at Enugu State border by the State COVID-19 task force.

OYC described the move to bring in Almajiri children into Enugu as a collaborative rogue operations and nefarious activities of notorious Islamic extremists and Northern Elders.

According to the apex Igbo youth organization, it was a deliberate move to bring in Almajiris with index coronavirus cases to the South East with the evil intent to infect Igbos and make the region suffer what is being witnessed in Kano today.
OYC noted that the recent ban on Almajiris by Northern Governors and their forceful evictions from urban areas to rural areas or their States of origin is a deceptive ploy and rogue assignments hatched by Northern Elders and Governors but executed by Northern musketeers to secretly export millions of COVID-19-carrying Almajiris to the South East under the guise of cattle conveyance.

OYC appealed to the Southeast Governors to review the circumstances surrounding the decisions of Northern Governors on the ban of Almajiris from anywhere they are found back to their states of origin.

Ohanaeze want the Governors to take decision to ensure that all Almajiris begging on the streets of South East are sent back in line with established decisions of their own Northern Governors.

OYC said it will not tolerate any kind of Almajiris system in the South East.

The organization said that this obnoxious policy seen in some Hausa quarters in Igboland will no longer be entertained.

“We will accommodate any Nigerian, especially from the North and West doing genuine businesses in the South East.

“But alternatively, we are giving the Almajiris an ultimatum and grace of 14 days to evacuate from Igboland or face the hostilities that will follow suit.

“Igbo youths will deal decisively with any street beggar anywhere in Igboland after 14 days from today, 5th day of May, 2020,” the OYC said.

PoliticsCOVID-19: 'Arewa Leaders Exporting Infected Almajiris To South-east' - IPOB. by Masterclass32(op): 2:57pm On May 05, 2020
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Monday, accused northern leaders of exporting coronavirus from Kano State to southeastern states.

IPOB alleged that Arewa leaders were secretly sending COVID-19 infected patients under the guise of repatriating almajiris to the southeast.

A statement signed by IPOB spokesperson, Emma Powerful, maintained that the culture of almajiris was alien to Igbo culture.

The separatist group warned that it won’t allow such because the Southeast is alien to almajiri culture.

IPOB wondered why almajiris were repatriated to Enugu State.

The statement reads: “We the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to draw the attention of Biafrans and the world at large over the ploy by some Northern elements to export coronavirus from its Kano epicenter to other parts of Nigeria particularly Biafra land. Those behind this evil plot are currently pursuing its actualisation under the guise of repatriation of almajiris to their home states.

“It is a known fact that Biafra has no almajiri as that is not our culture. Why then are those behind the sending of almajiri boys to Enugu doing so if not to infest Biafrans with COVID-19? No almajiri is of Biafra origin. Why then are they being sent to Enugu? IPOB won’t accept despatching of almajiri boy to Enugu or any part of Biafra land.
“Arewa north dominated by Fulani has been secretly sending Coronavirus patients in the name of sending out their alamajiri group to Enugu state since the lockdown started. Some of those almajiri sent to Enugu State but intercepted by security agents were tested and found positive of COVID-19 pandemic . Dispatching almajiri to our land under any guise will not be accepted. We shall stoutly resist this move.

“It is no longer hidden that coronavirus pandemic (COVID19) is currently ravaging Kano and other parts of the North. Instead of locking down to stem the spread as was done by all states in Biafra land, Northern leaders opened their borders and allowed free movement of their people many of who are now infested with the pandemic. Now they intend to infest the rest of us with the virus under the guise of repatriation of almajiris. We won’t allow this evil plot as no almajiri is from Biafra land.”

The group urged politicians, Christian bodies alongside businessmen and women in the Southeast to reject the repatriation of almajiris to the region.

“We, therefore, urge everybody in Biafra land including politicians, businessmen and women as well as students, churches and all the stakeholders in our land to stand up and stop these evil people with their almajiri group transfered in Biafra.

“Our land cannot be a depot for almajiri. Let them stay in North where they were incubated. Everybody knows that alamajiris are wanderers causing uprising, mayhem and crises in the whole of North. Most of the attacks against Christians and Biafrans living in the North as well as Christian communities in the North have their signature tunes,” IPOB added.
