keezy125:
i drive c 180 and i always drive with my air condition ON. So i need to know if there is any side effect on that, apart from the fuel consumption.
Long story short: None

Longer story: increased wear and tear is negligible, of course running your A/C means another item that needs servicing but that applies to all extras in a car, even remote locking adds complexity and another potential point of failure.

Off topic Story: In this current Naija heat those who prefer to sweat then good luck to them, personally I prefer air cooled luxury. grin in my house car and office.

The duster was not sold gas a Renault nah. It borrowed all its lungs, kidneys, heart and all other vital organs from Renault (Renault's ajeku).
But not Renault badged!!!
NB: It's a Dacia Duster!!!
Correct,

OP in our environment the Rav4 Will serve you a lot better, forget the allure of a new car and think long term, there is a reason a 4 year old Rav4 is the same price as a new Dacia.

PoliticsRe: Nairaland Says No To Secessionists by mastro: 9:33am On Dec 11, 2015
just adding my 5 kobo,
Tthis forum is "NAIRALAND" for a reason, its a place for like minded Nigerians and persons interested in Nigerian matters to come together and discuss, rant, educated and even abuse one another, the thing that binds us together is Nigeria, so why should we give voice to the people who want to that away from us.

You don't go to an Arsenal forum and start shouting about how great Chelsea are. If anyone wants to form a forum called yourbaland or Hausaland and discuss those issues they should feel free to do so.
Leave Nairaland for Nigerians

Well, Top gear showed that the hilux was practically indestructible! They drowned it, set it on fire, dropped a caravan on it, hit it with a wrecking ball and place it on a 240ft building to be demolished...and it still survived.
Exactly, when in a war zone you want a vehicle that will never let you down, because if it does you will die. This is also the reason that
all the major NGO's around the world use Toyota's as well.

It's like the standing joke that your Mecho will curse you if you buy a Corolla.

I've often wondered why Toyota don't do an advertisement around this fact.

Assuming this is true, and not just someone sounding out whether it's a good idea to buy a stolen vehicle
Why are people giving a criminal advice? thought this was supposed to be a car discussion forum.

Yoruba would say that the receiver of stolen goods is the true criminal. In this case that's the obvious truth.

As to being jealous of your colleague, same Yoruba would say "every day is for the thief, one day is for the owner"

That's an easy choice, the GX460 is by far and away the best of those 3 choices for him.
let me explain

If he currently drives a LX470 he would not be impressed by the jumped up c class called the GLK from the plastic interior to its inability to traverse off road seriously.

Obviously he is also quite conservative so you want to buy him a car that he can use for another 15 years, without looking like a person wearing flared jeans and platform shoes in 2015, yes NX200t I'm talking about you, the NX will age horribly IMO whereas the GX will just look as solid and conservative as his 2000 LX does today.
CareerRe: Please Advise. We Were Told To Resign by mastro: 2:42pm On Aug 10, 2015
As you have been advised above don't resign, that just plays into his hands

Refer to this link for Industrial court of Nigeria, http://nicn.gov.ng/ and look at cases, go over a ramdom few and you will see that while in Nigeria an employer can fire you for any or no cause, he must conform to the terms of employment, I hope you have a letter of employment that states these terms, not withstanding he must pay you for work you have performed, salary arrears fall under this.

If you look though the industrial court cases and judgement links you will see that any reasonable lawyer should be able to take on and win this case at minimal cost, what I will advise though is that rather than agreeing a fixed fee offer the lawyer a percentage of arrears recovered and a percentage of any damages received, as to the exact %ages that is really up to you.

Really you have nothing to lose by taking him to court, I know it feels like burning your bridges but anybody who expects you to work and not get paid doesnt have your interest at heart. Note he has money to employ a "consultant" but doesn't not to pay you what you are owed.

Car TalkRe: The Reason Why That Your Tokunbo Car Keeps Overheating Here In Nigeria by mastro: 7:10am On May 15, 2015
greenhulk:
Op ur knowledge about tropicalization is half baked, not complete.

Nigeria is so HOT and we all need to embrace the act of tropicalization. If u really wanna tropoxalize ur car, then u have to remove the thermostat, let ur fans spin non stop, change to double cell radiator, remove ur catalytic converter because it is not needed. Then remove all ur 02 sensors (both upstream and downstream). Then disconnect ur idle air control valve, if possible convert to caburator. Oh u also need to remove that oyinbo tyres because they are not meant for our weather. Don't mind all those car manufacturers, they don't know what they are doing. If they reccomend 195/55/r15, u have to change it to 225/70/r18. And if they recommend 33psi tyre pressure, u have to change to 60psi because our road is harsh.

And don't forget to always use 20w50 motor oil. Those oyinbo dey reccomend 5w20, shey dem no know say our weather is too hot? How can we use that light oil in this hot weather? It won't work.

Now that is some BAD A$S TROPICALIZATION.
I hope people realise this is sarcastic, but yep there is no arguing with people who refuse to learn, so tropicalise away, afterall the whole industry that designed and built the car has less knowledge than baba Kasali, its your money you are wasting

After much thought, I have decided to go with an alternative power plant in my truck. Initially the plan was to keep it all Toyota, and I ended up with a pair of Lexus' - a 1998 LS400 non-VVTi and a 2001 LS430 VVTi. Both are awesome V8 motors in their own right.

However, the V8 offerings from Audi do produce considerably more power and torque in stock form. Even the earliest 3.6 V8 32V in the 1988 Audi V8 D11 produced 250hp.

I have an S8 motor from a 1998 Audi S8, a 4.2 V8 32V, this produces 340hp and 430Nm in stock trim. It's also a very rev-happy engine, redlined at a heady 7000rpm. It sounds very different to both my Lexus' , a nice rumble at low to mid throttle, rising to an angry rasping roar when driven in anger.

The S8 engine is very different to the standard Audi A8 4.2 V8 32V engine, which produces 300hp and 410Nm torque (still higher than the Lexus' output) and is redlined at 6500rpm.

I'm currently working on either an adapter plate solution, retaining the Hilux bell housing, allowing the S8 engine to bolt up, or an adapter losing the Hilux bell housing, allowing a cut off and suitably modified Audi bell housing to bolt to the Hilux transmission. We are currently about to relocate, so not much will be taking place right now, in terms of stripping down an Audi (I have 2 A4's) or removing the S8 engine from my DTM Race Audi A4 Quattro, which is having an Audi A8 4.2 V8 40V in place of the S8 unit.

We'll see how it all pans out, I may have both Lexus' for sale depending on the outcome.
hmm, thought the idea was to try something new hence the Toyota end-to-end, i don't see what power has to do with choice of engine as it's not a drag racer so would have thought >280bhp (LS400) should be more than adequate.

it's not my cat to drown and I will enjoy reading whatever you decide to do with this truck but really really think the original idea & plan of of the Lexus engine is much cooler, especially as there are very few project cars using those engines.

It was the worst even regime Nigerian as a Country ever had. I remember my uncle came back from work one particular day and was so tired. As someone who was an adult in those days I remember it was the norm for civil servants to turn up a 10am (7.30am start) and close at 2pm (3.30pm close)

Siena: My 11-day vacation officially started today.

Not a vacation of travelling, seeing different places, getting embroiled in diverse cultures, taking the wife and children on a road trip.

A vacation of delving into the innards of my Toyota truck.

I took some pictures today, tomorrow hopefully there should be more progress. And more pictures.
Morning boss, where are our pictures??
