I remember this, from the days when the scammers were stupid with a capital S, as to exactly what he/she was trying to achieve, only God knows, it's not like anyone interested in that kind of car would part with any cash before verifying, you don't get that rich without common sense.

There were of course other scammers where the endings were not so good.

Re: Should I Dress In The Presence Of My Five Year Old Daughter
« #33 on: Yesterday at 02:34:19 PM »

i beg to differ on this issue.

I grew up in a household where we were very comfortable with our bodies or unclothedness as you may call it and also very comfortable in our personal spaces. the boys could walk into the girls room and carry on a conversation even if we were starkers. Same for our parents. overtime the boys started being extra sensitive for their privacy; ie duck for cover if any of the girls were to walk in on them unannounced, but it didn't change things the other way round. Funny thing i realised though is that in such situations its a case of 'you can see but really cant see', more focus is on the face and mouth.

Now years down the line, has it had any negative impact on any of us? I would say no, but rather contributed to making us stronger and more confident individuals.

I sleep starkers and even prefer to walk around starkers in my personal space (my house). I am more comfortable that way. Overtime, my husband has also come into the whole lifestyle. We have 2 children, a boy 3 & girl 1.5yrs.

Dint get me wrong, Its not a throw it in your face prancing around Unclad (not after 2 kids, there is much to flaunt, LOL) but if from bed i need to attend to the kids, i would just in the exact state that i am. or if the kids come into our room, we dint duck for cover. The kids in particular like to come into our bed in the morning for a lil lie in, it is precious moments we all enjoy. I wont spoil such by driving them out coz mom or dad isn't dressed etc.

The thing to me is that, whether they kids see ours or not, they would eventually know the body parts, and what better way to teach or introduce them to it that at home, afterall charity does begin at home. How do you want to teach sex education without sights? it's like learning chemistry without chemicalshuh

Another positive to me is the confidence, liberty and security it gives. No one and nothing could ever give them a complex about their bodies. Its all about the personal space and the ability to be you in your own space, no pretence no dress up etc.

To the person that talked about the Quran, my husband is Muslim for starters. And was the quran written in this times, when responsibilities for the kids are shared btw d 2 parents? My husband has his days when he has to sort out he kids; bath, nursery runs etc so therefore he baths both the boy and the girl. We need to learn to apply sense to religion. It is what works now, not what Jesus or Mohammed said. Such limited views is the major cause of conflict in the world today, has cost millions of lives and would continue to do so.

Maybe if and when you parcel up domestic help form 9ja, we may concede to your line of thoughts, but until then and at the end of the day, it is what works for each.
What she said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Work differently for every family, but my view is that unclothedness is not unnatural, the problem most people have is that they relate it directly to sex, if you can separate those two things then all this nonsense of men not bathing their 2 year old daughters would be considered exactly that, nonsense.

Once a child starts school then of course social norms come into play so in the case of the OP and his 5 year old then there is no harm in keeping his towel on while putting on his pants especially if he is asking this question which means he feels somewhat uncomfortable with it, but sending your 5 year old out of your room because you want to get changed will IMO do her more harm.

Also lets not forget that not everybody lives in a mansion with En-suite bathrooms, if you grew up in a face-me-I-face-you then these formal levels of privacy and modestly will make you laugh.

I once witnessed in Maiduguri in 2008. The guy was caught though, he returned it but he was beaten into near-death, thank God for the police. Through that year, I learnt to always touch my manhood every few minutes. There was one particular day that i went to the market and an almajiri guy mistakenly 'touched' me, I went dead cold with fear. I did not allow the guy to go until i was sure nothing really happened. Even with that, I had to go for testing to see wether the thing dey work.

Car TalkRe: My Experience With Thermostat Removal by mastro: 8:48am On Sep 27, 2011
Vehicle engines are meant to run well at a certain temperature. It could be 80, 90 or 95 degree centigrate, depending on the engine. only when it warms at the operating temperature that longevity of the engine is ensured.

your engine is emiting black smoke from the exhaust now, I believe, because its running rich (excessive fueling). its running rich because its no longer warming to the operating temperature which is the work of thermostat. as long as your engine keeps running cold, the ecu will signal the injectors to spray excess fuel, believing that the engine is still cold.

Your raditor electric cooling fan is no longer coming on frequently as it used to because the fluid/coolant in your radiotor are always cold & the sensor on raditor that is suppose to on the fan when coolant temperture starts exceeding the normal operating temperature its always sensing the engine temp very cold.

If i were you, I would replace the thermo like you said you would do & have a piece of mind.

Ikenna.
What the fiddlers (can't call them mechanics) then do is cross wires so the fan is running all the time, which delays the engine reaching optimal running temperature, oh and as a added bonus kills the motor of the fan so engine overheats and because there is no indication, next thing is B ANG, but hey more work for them, Oga you need half engine, my brother for Ojurin has one

Hello Guys

Can you recommend a list of SUV's for the Nigerian road - and one that can easily maintained by our local engineers ( with parts easily available )

Thanks

I was initially considering a Mitsubishi Endeavour - But this jeep only comes in a 3.8 litre engine - ( Wordier about the cost of fuelling this thing for daily usage)
OK First thing, what is your budget?

Do you want a full size SUV or are you willing to look at medium size ones?

PropertiesRe: Pictures Dont Lie: The Real Mowe And Ofada Agents Wont Tell You About by mastro: 10:22am On Sep 19, 2011
I think it is rather imperative for us to not only to get our information straight, but also to separate the “wheat from the chaff” when it comes to estates and developers. Agreed there are lots of scrupulous companies and fraudsters with little or no pedigree in property development, parading themselves as “property developers” these days. These are people who are looking to make fast bucks by preying on innocent and unsuspecting victims. These elements are unfortunately not limited to the Mowe/Ofada axis alone. The truth be told, not all estates and developers in this axis are the same and I am talking as someone who has dealt with arguably one of the performing developers in this axis, SSA Realties limited, developers of the Nest, Organic City.

I currently reside in the UK, and I was introduced to the company’s scheme by a cousin who had earlier subscribed, but having heard lots of horrific stories about property acquisition in Nigeria, I was skeptical of SSA at first, but looking back now I don’t have any regret dealing with them. They were able to show me proof of their documentations from approved lay out plan, to the C-Of-O duly approved by the Ogun state government with no sign of encumbrances from any quarters. I was recently in the country, and I was at the estate for an inspection, and I must say that the level of infrastructural development that is taking place in this estate is okay by me.
Dude you have made 1 post, yet talk like a person who has been here for years, that doesn't mark you out as a credible source of information, two houses, a gatehouse and a fence does not an estate make, anyone who pays any of these developers money without going and seeing what is there themselves really has no cause to complain.

What EFCC should do however is where people are convicted, as part of the asset recovery ask the churches to return stolen money (like that will ever happen)

AutosRe: Peugeot 504 Neatly Used For Sale-sold!! by mastro: 6:16am On Aug 02, 2011
Peugeot 504?

It's a tough, hard-wearing car, very much at home in African countries. In some African countries, it's used as a bush taxi, due to it's virtually indestructible nature. The much more modern Peugeot 505 was meant to be the 504's replacement, but was less durable. The 504 ended up out-living it, with the previously announced production being extended for many more years. It was produced in Kaduna up till 2005, whereas the 505 only made it till 1995.

Chinese production of the Peugeot 504 continued up till 2009.

Parts are extremely cheap, and easy to come by. The Peugeot 504 is simplicity in itself, and easy to work on, even by a novice. Minimal electrics, no ECU or fuel injection (at least not in Nigeria). Nigerian models were available in the following trim levels:

L
GL
GR
GLS
SR
Bestline

The 504 GL was the most luxurious model. The GL designation didn't just stop at the engine and interior trim. The GL had independent rear suspension, compared to all other models which had live rear axles. The IRS on the GL meant the body shell was remarkably different to L, GR, SR and GLS models. The rear suspension components were not interchangeable between the GL and other models.

The GL also benefited from having disc brakes at the rear, all other models made do with drums. GL models were twin-carburettor fed, and the engines were all 2,0. Other models were 1,8 with single carburettor. The GLS did have the GL's 2,0 engine, but shared the bodyshell with lesser models. All 504 models were 4-speed manual, excluding the 504 pic-up truck, which was fitted with the 5-speed manual from the 505.

The GL Station Wagon however, did not benefit from independent rear suspension, like the saloon models. All wagons had live rear axles like the L, SR and GLS saloons, but with beefier springs to cope with higher loads.
pretty sure our GL had a single carb, I remember my brother obtaining a double carburettor and us trying to fit it.

Could I also suggest that as part of this process all "verified sellers should be mandated to state an asking price and provide a VIN number and picture for all their advertisements.

I for one am sick of people saying call for VIN, call for price, call for picture etc, it just seems to me that if you are an honest seller with access to the car you should have no problem providing basic details, it's simply unprofessional and seeing that this registration process is a sanitising step I think this issue is relevent.

Why are we acting like the Admin has a stake in the profit being made by the dealers and therefore he can be held responsible for deals that go wrong? That the admin has taken this steps is a big credit to him because the truth is, he doesn't have to least we forget Nairaland is not an online shopping site. People have been buying cars without the information that is being requested, which means they already have confidence. This next step is just to help boost their confidence level some more.
Maybe it will help if people see Nairaland like Mile 12 market where everyone from all walks of life come to sell their wares and you as customer use your gut instinct to choose who to buy from. If that gut instinct fails you, will you turn around and sue the people who own the land Mile 12 is located?
Look at it this way, I take you to a car dealer, tell you he is honest and I've vetted him, then he takes your money and disappears, when you inform the police will they not arrest me as an accomplice? Any questions as to if I took a share of the money will come after the arrest.

The least thing any of us want is for Seun and Nairaland to have any legal wahala for providing us with this forum, so what we are saying is that Nairaland need to cover themselves at each stage of this process.

Finally it's better that all questions are asked and answered at this stage so a robust system of checks and balances can be built, rather than after things go wrong.

AutosRe: Attention : All Auto Dealers And Sellers On Nairaland by mastro: 7:22pm On Jul 19, 2011
Inspired you probably also need to define what you consider a frequent seller for avoidance of doubt.

Also a couple of other things
[li]Have you a mechanism in place for verifying the details provided[/li]
[li]

You have thought this though and are aware that by vetting dealers Nairaland is opening itself to being sued by disgruntled buyers, in that by vetting and approving dealers you are opening Nairaland to being a party to the selling of said cars, now Seun could place disclaimers but methinks that it might be a good idea to run this past a decent lawyer.
