Car TalkRe: Can A Six Cylinder Car Engine Be Overhauled by mastro: 9:14am On Aug 04, 2012
Siena: Any engine can be rebuilt - from a single cylinder to a 16 cylinder engine. I would say you need to ditch your "mechanic", and take your car to a reputable garage.

Ony difference between 4 and 6 cylinder rebuild is two or four more of parts required.
I agree, you need a competent mechanic, at which point you will find out that half the problems with your car are being caused by people who don't know what they are doing.

reading some of the comments on this thread a person would think that the South-East, South-Wwest are idyllic oasis's of peace where everything works or would if not for the "evil Fulani" some people seem to forget that we've have 12 years of civilian rule where each state is governed by people from the state, end result of which is almost ZERO progress, you can't blame that on Fulani

People you can only blame everyone else for your woes for so long, until we look inwardly and realise that down to Local govt the system is broken and more importantly until we understand that each and every one of us have to put in an effort to make things better then blaming everyone else for all our problems is stupid, ignorant and non-productive.

On the topic of the STF directive, come on people, stop arguing like Faruk (I didn't take money, er I took to expose Femi, err err I gave money to member, err err err money is under my bed, etc) did you not read the original directive, that STF are changing the story now doesn't detract from the nature of the directive, which was simply get out of your home

rhymz: the FG did that to compensate for Ibeto's loss in 2005 when Dangote and The Lafarge group connived with OBJ to shut Ibeto Cement and seized Ibeto's bulk cement for over 2years. Now that he, Dangote has finished his Cement factory after using OBJ to stop IBETO's, he wants FG to now remove the waiver which he too had once benefited from...im father
The reason Ibeto doesn't have a cement manufacturing factory in Nigeria is that when they were granted a waiver under OBJ to import and bag cement it was with the condition that they build a producing factory, Dangote did, borrowing money from world bank to do so, Ibeto kept on bagging and pocketing the cash that my fellow nairalanders is the difference between becoming a $ Billionaire and a Naira one
PoliticsRe: Otedola Is Silly & Misguided For Not Talking To House Committee – Committee by mastro: 1:29pm On Jul 04, 2012
Laila Ikeji: The refusal of Mr Femi Otedola to testify before the House of Representatives Committee on Ethics and Privileges has unnerved the committee members, claiming the decision was misguided that no one can dictate to the committee how to carry-out its investigation.

The Chairman House of Representatives committee on Ethics, Gambo Dan Musa, described Mr Otedola’s decision not to speak before the committee as misguided, when he addressed a press conference after Otedola’s departure. .

According to the chairman, Mr Otedola refused to say anything to the committee and claimed the oil mogul was just laughing.

“We did all that we could by explaining to him our power under the constitution and under our rules and…..further explained that nobody will dictate how we are going to conduct our meeting, yet Femi Otedola refused to answer questions and he said he could only do so when we do it in public” explained Mr Dan Musa.

“You cannot make an allegation and when you are being asked to substantiate, you now refuse to substantiate.” “What are you hiding” Honourable Dan Musa asked?

“He has told us that we are hiding something that is why we don’t want to do it in public, rather we told him, he is the one hiding something by refusing to talk, by refusing to make a substantiation of his allegations.”

Warning that nobody can dictate to the committee how it should conduct its investigation, the committee chairman added that “we told him the consequences of this but he was not ready to go by our words.”

Laughing stock

Adding that he refused to answer all their questions, Mr Dan Musa stated that the oil mogul insulted members of the committee because he was just laughing.

“He refused to say anything and he was just laughing. It was very stupid of him and we are not happy too” he said angrily as other members of the committee on ethics, gave a Yes! chorus one after the other, in response to the name calling.

“We cannot have a committee of this nature, a standing committee, that is respected by the House and somebody comes and tell us that he is a businessman and he is not angry at ourselves” he said.

The chairman noted that the committee will continue to invite other relevant parties involved in the saga and pledged the committee’s commitment saying, “our commitment to do justice should not be in doubt.”

FamilyRe: Am I Supposed To Pay For My Wedding? by mastro: 12:58pm On May 05, 2012
chinwe11: Thanks for your advices/insults sha. I have read them through, and i have decided to help out. I guess the reason why i had to bring this to NL is because most of my frieds kept warning me before wedding that 'DO NOT PAY FOR ANYTHING DURING THE WEDDING. IT IS THE HUSBANDS RESPONSIBILITY'. Even my relatives said the same thing, that in Ibo land its the man's duty. You get lots of advise from other women, this morning, a friend was telling me that after marriage, you keep your money and spend his, and they say that is what happens in thier homes. When the issue of bringing the 80% came up, i got worried,, cos i felt it would be like i was marrying my self. I have enough money to foot our wedding and even double of that. But was just worried it would be like i was marrying myself, or the man might take me for granted. Also i forgot to add that when i said he should borrow, i planned that we would pay back from my money, so it wont just look like i GAVE him the wedding money. Anyway sha i would bring my 80%.

Thanks for all your advises oh! I would post the wedding pictures here maybe! Thanks kiss
Most of the time in life our 1st reaction is the most honest one, if you feel it diminishes your potential husband or yourself by contributing financially to your wedding then will you feel the same when rent is due again, when it's time to pay school fees, etc?

If you are looking for a provider then fine don't contribute, however if you are looking for a soulmate then even if na 100%. But really look in your heart and ask yourself what you expect from him and if he can't provide it then you guys aren't ready to get married

Car TalkRe: Lagos Okada Riders On Strike,Inorder To Attend Court Over Ikeja Business Distric by mastro: 7:30am On Apr 03, 2012
omoola007: Okada should not be banned but rather heavily regulated. I don't take okada because they are simply too dangerous due to the lack of regulation and overall lack of experience and care by the riders. They constantly weave through cars and change lanes with no regard. They cause most accidents on the road and are alway damaging cars. ( dings and scratches) .

All this said, after living in Lagos you will realise that okadas are needed as part of the transportation solution for the masses.

Rather than take the easy way out ( banning them) why not regulate them so that they become productive members of the society. Here are the things I would do to better regulate okada and provide an harmonious and safe coexistence between car drivers and okada riders.

1) register and license them - all okada riders must have a rider license that will require tha they study the road rules and pass a road test. It doesn't have to be a difficult or complicated test. They should be taught safety and regulations via video or other demonstrations and then tested in it. Once they pass they will be give a license and a vest to identify them.

2) form a deciplinary board- in conjunction with their union, form a deciplinary board that enforces sanctions of riders that disobey the rules, - excessive load, dangerous driving , accidents, etc. ( their vest will have their license number. For reporting)

3) create an okada hotline. To report dangerous riding and other issues

4) require helmets for all riders. Any violation wil result in seizing of the okada. So the riders will police themselves. ( they don't want to loose their okada so they will wear helmets and require that passengers do too.

5) make then ride only on outer lanes. The right side of the traffic . Seize their okada for going one way and jail offenders for 3 days.

The easy thing to do is ban the hard and more tangible thing is to regulate them.
Word, we have this problem in this country of throwing out the baby with the bath water, ruling by memo without thinking the consequences through, I've never had cause to use Okada (though I ride a motorcycle) I don't trust them, and my cars bear witness to the damage they inflict, but banning them when there is no viable alternative in place is short sighted, why not go through a consultancy process involving all interested parties, after all this is supposed to be a democracy, then if you ban them in certain areas it may be accepted by all parties

and since as pointed out below

zuzu-onyi:

I have long held this point of view. But while trying to reason this line with brothers/sister, they always come up with the convenient Old Testament quotes. But then, on some other issues, they tell you that we are on the Grace era (New Testament) and are quick to dump related Old Testament quotes. Isn't that hypocritical?
I think you should do God's work and donate to orphanages, please be aware though that it is better to donate in kind rather than cash, and if you can make it a regular thing no matter how small then God will bless you many fold.

Have you ever seen a sucton bulb for infants.

Release pressure on the bulb slowly to suction the mucus out of your baby's nose. Remove the bulb syringe and then squeeze it forcefully over a tissue to expel the mucus collected from your baby's nose.

Music/RadioRe: Chris Brown And Rihanna Reunite For Remixes: Listen by mastro: 3:22pm On Feb 21, 2012
From mtv.com

"A verbal argument ensued and Brown pulled the vehicle over on an unknown street, reached over Robyn F. with his right hand, opened the car door and attempted to force her out. Brown was unable to force Robyn F. out of the vehicle because she was wearing a seat belt. When he could not force her to exit, he took his right hand and shoved her head against he passenger window of the vehicle, causing an approximate one-inch raised circular contusion.

"Robyn F. turned to face Brown and he punched her in the left eye with his right hand. He then drove away in the vehicle and continued to punch her in the face with his right hand while steering the vehicle with his left hand. The assault caused Robyn F.'s mouth to fill with blood and blood to splatter all over her clothing and the interior of the vehicle.

"Brown looked at Robyn F. and stated, 'I'm going to beat the sh-- out of you when we get home! You wait and see!' "

The detective said "Robyn F." then used her cell phone to call her personal assistant Jennifer Rosales, who did not answer.

"Robyn F. pretended to talk to her and stated, 'I'm on my way home. Make sure the police are there when I get there.'

"After Robyn F. faked the call, Brown looked at her and stated, 'You just did the stupidest thing ever! Now I'm really going to kill you!'

"Brown resumed punching Robyn F. and she interlocked her fingers behind her head and brought her elbows forward to protect her face. She then bent over at the waist, placing her elbows and face near her lap in [an] attempt to protect her face and head from the barrage of punches being levied upon her by Brown.

"Brown continued to punch Robyn F. on her left arm and hand, causing her to suffer a contusion on her left triceps (sic) that was approximately two inches in diameter and numerous contusions on her left hand.

"Robyn F. then attempted to send a text message to her other personal assistant, Melissa Ford. Brown snatched the cellular telephone out of her hand and threw it out of the window onto an unknown street.

"Brown continued driving and Robyn F. observed his cellular telephone sitting in his lap. She picked up the cellular telephone with her left hand and before she could make a call he placed her in a head lock with his right hand and continued to drive the vehicle with his left hand.

"Brown pulled Robyn F. close to him and bit her on her left ear. She was able to feel the vehicle swerving from right to left as Brown sped away. He stopped the vehicle in front of 333 North June Street and Robyn F. turned off the car, removed the key from the ignition and sat on it.

"Brown did not know what she did with the key and began punching her in the face and arms. He then placed her in a head lock positioning the front of her throat between his bicep and forearm. Brown began applying pressure to Robyn F.'s left and right carotid arteries, causing her to be unable to breathe and she began to lose consciousness.

"She reached up with her left hand and began attempting to gouge his eyes in an attempt to free herself. Brown bit her left ring and middle fingers and then released her. While Brown continued to punch her, she turned around and placed her back against the passenger door. She brought her knees to her chest, placed her feet against Brown's body and began pushing him away. Brown continued to punch her on the legs and feet, causing several contusions.

"Robyn F. began screaming for help and Brown exited the vehicle and walked away. A resident in the neighborhood heard Robyn F.'s plea for help and called 911, causing a police response. An investigation was conducted and Robyn F. was issued a Domestic Violence Emergency Protective Order."

At the end of his statement, Andrews said Brown sent a text message nine days later apologizing.

"In the text message, Brown apologized for what he had done to Robyn F. and advised [Rihanna's assistant] Ford that he was going to get help."

Car TalkRe: Most Popular Powerbikes In Nigeria? Please Educate Me. by mastro: 10:06am On Feb 14, 2012
I am a Sportbike enthusiast and I have thoroughly researched bikes for the last one year regarding what bike to start on. I initially thought of starting out on the Kawasaki NInja 250R, but I have since discovered that it's the sort of bike you would quickly outgrow and begin wanting more uummmpphhh. And you know the sort of country we live in, you begin to think of how to trade in or dispose the present bike and save up to upgrade again. So I switched my thoughts to the Yamaha FZ 8/Fazer 8 after briefly considering it's younger brother the FZ 6. Its  a detuned street bike with very good low to mid range power quite suitable for beginners, forgiving but still with plenty of power you wouldn't outgrow so soon. But then again it's expensive. Infact it debuted in 2008 and only started getting imported to the US market last year. Now I think I've settled on something, the 2008 Suzuki GSX R 600 RR. It has three selectable drive modes A,B, & C. With C cutting off power output by 50percent. I intend to get this and ride on C mode for a while, while building my riding skill level and gaining experience. What's more while doing this you're still driving a thoroughbred middleweight sports bike. I have made this choice cos its the only bike in its class that offers this reduced power at the touch of a button. If I had experience and I were to make a pick out of the 600cc's I'd go for the Yamaha R6, years 2006-onwards.
Azpekuliar you are spot on, well researched, 600's are indeed the sweet spot, i will point out though that GSX600rr's are out and out sports bikers so the riding position is not the most comfortable so you might be better off with a GSX650F http://www.suzuki-gb.co.uk/bike/gsx650fl0/ however bikes are brought with the heart, so buy what you really want, also training is your friend, do as much as you can before buying a bike, Naija roads take no prisoners.

As for the reduced power mode, don't make it a deal breaker, 600's require lots of Revs to generate decent power, so on an R6 if you keep the Revs below  7000 or so it's a pussy cat, the only question is can you restrain yourself, it's all in the wrist.

Oh and I ride a 600 and never find myself being left behind by litre bikes.

You people talk too much. you wanna see A and call it B, just for something to talk about.
Even NLC made it quite clear that they called off their strike due to security, they did not stop there but have been making it abundantly clear that they are not part of any protests for regime change.

Anybody who is arguing that the Lagos riots and protests were not sinister is a liar. I fail to see tanks in Kaduna, Kano, Ilorin, Ibadan and other places where there were protests. There is solid reason for soldiers in Lagos, and good reason for Fashola's summoning to Aso Rock as well; it is noteworthy that no other governor has been summoned in that way.

Pay the price for what you bought and lets move on.
The reason for the tanks in Lagos is that the protests there were by far and away the biggest, oh and there were no riots in Lagos just masses of people peacefully turned out to register their displeasure.

The reason for tanks on the streets of Lagos "mr govt spokesman" is the fear of the people

the reason for the calling off of the rallies not the STRIKE is that our president is afraid of his people
