Romance / Man Buys 99 Iphones To Propose To His Girlfriend; She Says No by matrixx9(m): 7:50am On Nov 11, 2014 |
If he was marrying a Naija Girl this wouldn't have happened... Lol He got 99 iPhones but gettin’ hitched ain’t done. With “Singles’ Day” looming in China (Nov. 11), one man thought the time was right to try to tie the knot with his girlfriend, preventing them both from having to participate in any future 11/11 festivities. As a keystone of the young programmer’s marriage proposal were 99 iPhones 6’s placed on the ground and arranged in the form of a heart. The setup, as reported by The Nanfang , cost the love-bitten chap two years’ salary (about $82,000). But that evidently wasn’t enough. She said no. Siri, how do you mend a broken heart?I Whether our once-hopeful groom likes it or not, pictures of the ultimately sad event (seen below) are up on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo. But of course, with a bushel of iPhones that size, we’re not convinced he has any real reason to feel too bummed. According to a recent survey, one in five men would actually rather have an iPhone 6 than a girlfriend. And that number is even up from last year’s survey about the iPhone 5s, where one in eight said they would forgo the soft touch of a woman for a new Touch ID-equipped Apple phone. So, whether our crestfallen man ends up hawking these phones one by one to make back big bucks , or just decides that 99 Siris are better than one real wife, we get the sense that he’ll be OK in the end. Remember, it’s better to have loved and lost 99 iPhones than never to have loved at all. SOURCE: http://..com/2014/11/man-buys-99-iphones-to-propose-to-his.html |
Phones / Why Nigeria Is Not Advancing In Technology by matrixx9(m): 7:41am On Nov 11, 2014 |
Nigeria is supposedly the Giant Of Africa But It is a pity that Nigeria is still yet to come up with great technology and still dependA on other countries for gadgets that can be produced by Nigerians if the necessary infrastructure is provided. Nigerians are unique, making breakthroughs in almost every walk of life but in technology there is a huge setback, Here are some of the problems i think that is drawing Nigeria back in technology. .Nigerian Tech Websites Are Mainly Focused On ]How To Outsmart The Service Providers In Nigeria, The only thing that Tech Website Owners think about when it comes to technology is mostly Free Browsing ,Cheats,Tweaks apart from few tutorials that are helpful; while foreign sites are focused on bringing educative tutorials like 'how-to do this' to their people and help them be more creative. here's a comparison between the kind of things we see on Nigerian Sites and what we see on Foreign Sites [Nigeria] MTN CHEAT BLAZING FAST WITH N0.00 GLO BLAZING WITH N5 AND PROXYSERVER ETISALAT 15GB CHEAT AIRTEL BIS ROCKS ON ANDROID WITH IMEI MTN MAGIC SIM ..FULL SPEED [Foreign] Microsoft moves to create smartphones that can control itself How To Develop A simple Android Game How To Make A Mobile Phone Learn HTML5 with Ease Simple Photoshop Tricks Now any smart person can see that this is a very big difference, and why this is a huge setback. site owners should move to post more informative posts on their sites Although the service providers are partly to blame for this with exorbitant data charges leaving subscribers to start looking for solutions. THE GOVERNMENT HARDLY HELPS THOSE WHO ARE CREATIVE The Nigerian Government hardly help those who create certain things that would boost the country's technological advancement, they are mainly focused on matters that they feel are more relevant forgetting that technology can turn the whole economy around with the speed of light. Foreign Countries come here and take our smart students under the disguise of scholarship and due to the fact that the government doesn't provide or help these students , they gladly leave the country. let the Nigerian Government offer an american kid scholarship to study in nigeria and see what happens. We need to change. Source: http://..com.es/2014/11/why-nigeria-is-not-advancing-in.html 1 Like |

Romance / Help. She's Cursed To Be A Spinster Forever by matrixx9(m): 2:44pm On Nov 09, 2014 |
My name is Nkemka and I am 35 years old. I grew up in hardship with my family in the village many years back. I can comfortably say my family was noted for poverty and it seemed as though no good thing could ever come out of our entire existence on earth. My late dad was a palm-wine tapper while my mother sold fruits in the market. We never had access to the good things of life and only managed to eat twice a day and I tell you we always had very little. Out of five of us from my parents, I was the only lucky one to attend a public school and you can imagine that it was such toil and I had to borrow textbooks most of the time, wear patched uniform etc. And my dad would constantly remind me that he could never afford to send me to the university and I should be prepared to stop my education after secondary school. I never argued with him but concentrated on my studies and because I was intelligent, I was always among the first 3 in each class. I did very well in my G.C.E. and came out of secondary school in flying colours. As God would have it, at Christmas that same year, the daughter of the richest man in our village came from Lagos with her family and needed a house- help and I was promptly recommended. Within a few days, I was in Lagos for the first time in my entire life. It was like travelling to America and my entire family was filled with joy and grateful to God. Lagos was a whole new world for me and at a point, I didn’t even mind if I couldn’t continue my education. I was just satisfied and felt so blessed. I had good food to eat, good clothing and good shelter compared to what I had in the village. And because I could speak very good English, it was easy for me to flow with others. Less than a year later, my gracious boss whose husband worked with Schlumberger had to relocate to France with her husband and family. That broke my heart as I knew I was on my own. I had two options, either to go back to the village or manage myself in the wilderness of Lagos. It was a wilderness for me then as I wasn’t socialising much and didn’t really know my way around save our neighborhood. I confided in a friend of mine next door who was also a house-help and she decided to discuss with her brother who was a plumber and who just acquired a 2 bedroom apartment. As God would have it, he decided to let me stay for some time while I searched for a job. Emeka was extremely nice to me and treated me like I was his sister. Though, my madam gave me a generous amount when she was leaving the country, Emeka took care of all our meals in the house and if I had to go out, he would give me transport fare and generally took care of me. Before long, we fell in love with each other and began dating. He encouraged me to proceed to the university and I passed my JAMB exams at the first sitting. With his help, I studied Mass Communications and graduated on record time. Not long after, I got a job in a television station and was eventually posted to a federal government parastatal in Abuja where my immediate boss worked directly with the seat of power and before long I also had access as well and life just became a beautiful dream. Overnight, I found myself on a pedestal I can assure you no one in my lineage would every dream of climbing. I have not only been constantly travelling outside the country but have the good things of life. In fact, whenever I go to the village for Christmas, my mother would insist I stay in a hotel away from prying wicked eyes as I had become the breadwinner and even re-built my father’s house. Though I was born into poverty, I was enjoying the best things in life and had more than enough money but I never enjoyed a relationship. My heart was broken times without number as I was disappointed after each marriage proposal. I was close to God and had been everywhere you could imagine to pray. I got the same answer everywhere, ‘Someone swore that over his dead body will I marry anyone else but him.’ That person was my first real boyfriend, Emeka the plumber, who still remained one after all these years. I pleaded with him to let me go as I am no longer in love with him and even offered him the sum of N2,000,000 (two million naira) but he insists on marrying me. I can’t imagine myself marrying him. It’s impossible. Please, what do you think is the way out? Source: http://..com.es/2014/11/dear-mab-readers-i-cursed-to-remain.html |

Sports / David Moyes Is Better Than Luis Van Gaal - Scholes by matrixx9(m): 7:29pm On Nov 08, 2014 |
Paul Scholes says Manchester United have not been good enough under Louis van Gaal so far, insisting a club of their stature cannot just play well and lose. Writing in the Independent, the legendary former United midfielder admitted he was surprised by how 'subdued' Van Gaal has been in the Old Trafford dugout compared with the way he was at the World Cup while managing Holland. And Scholes also made reference to United's inferior record at this stage of the season compared with the last under David Moyes - United have 13 points from 10 games after their defeat at the hands of Manchester City last weekend. 'The scoreline against City might have been more respectable than last season but the performance in the first hour of the game was very poor indeed,' said Scholes. 'This is Manchester United. It is simply not good enough to play well for 20 minutes and lose. 'Louis van Gaal talks about progress. I expected United to have a better record by this stage of the season. Under David Moyes last season United had 17 points from their first 10 games. This time, having spent £150million in the summer, they have 13 points from 10 games.' Scholes also says he has become worried about the apparent downbeat mood of the squad after their underwhelming start to the campaign, especially in the case of record signing Angel di Maria. 'My concern is that the mood among the United players feels a bit low-key,' he continued. 'Preparing for the broadcast of the game in Madrid this week, I watched re-runs of last season and Angel di Maria smiling broadly as he celebrated goal after goal with Cristiano Ronaldo. 'He doesn’t seem to be in the same happy mood at United. It feels downbeat among the team.' Scholes added that the Dutch boss has appeared a completely different character to the man who led Holland to third place at the World Cup, and that it can be tricky at times to decipher his thought process during matches. 'It is difficult to figure out what Van Gaal is thinking during games,' explained Scholes. 'His demeanour doesn’t change throughout. He looks a bit subdued. Certainly, he appears very different to the man you saw on the touchline at the World Cup.' Source: http://..com.es/2014/11/scholes-blasts-luis-van-gaal-it-seems.html |

Politics / Nigeria: Possible Naira Devaluation Causes Market Shock by matrixx9(m): 9:58am On Nov 07, 2014 |
Uncertainty persists as a mass exodus of investors from the equity and bond markets shy away from local assets amid fears of an imminent currency devaluation. Nigeria has had to contend with that setback, worsened by the undesired macroeconomic effects of a falling oil price. “The Central Bank of Nigeria’s attempts to calm the market have fallen on deaf ears. In fact, it has created more uncertainty as a string of circulars seemingly unnerved participants in the interbank market, provoking a surge in demand as importers bring forward their commitments,” Rand Merchant Bank stated in its latest Global Markets update. “Yesterday (Thursday) was a prime example of the interbank market’s inability to absorb the rising level of demand,” added the think-tank. The Naira spiked to 172 toward the close of the day, necessitating swift central bank intervention. The unit eventually clawed its way back to 168,75 following the sale of an undisclosed amount of US dollars by the CBN. However, the central bank is limited in its ability to directly influence the spot rate due to its dwindling international reserve position. “We have long held that an oil event, be it a drop in the price or production, would demand an upward adjustment of the reference rate. While conditions are primed for a change, the upcoming presidential elections might impact the timing of monetary policy adjustments,” RMB stated. The elections are due early next year. Tensions have characterised the lead up to the polls. http://..com/2014/11/nigeria-possible-naira-devaluation.html |
Politics / Atiku Pledges Free Education At All Levels by matrixx9(m): 6:47am On Nov 07, 2014 |
The former Vice-President and one of the presidential aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has said he will declare free educations at all levels if elected president of the country. Atiku has also proposed a number of ways to protect and promote the rights of women and the girl-child in Nigeria. The former vice-president spoke at the public presentation/launching of a book, “Re-thinking the legal framework for rights of women and girl-child in Nigeria,” in honour of founder, Women Trafficking and Child Labour Eradication Foundation (WOTCLEF), Hajiya Amina Titi Atiku Abubakar. Speaking on the state of affairs in the education sector, Atiku Abubakar, said the sector has suffered under funding due to corruption, adding that if elected president he will do everything possible including declaring free education at all level to make quality education available to Nigerians. “Definitely l will declare at all levels. We will find the resources to fund free education. When they are wasting resources on corruption, why will they not find resources to implement it. “I believe that we should have free educations at all levels, but l know that not all the state governments have the resources to undertake that. That is why when we were in government, we made free and compulsory up to secondary school level,” he said. The Turaki Adamawa, listed the ways to protect and promote the rights of women and the girl-child to include free compulsory basic education for all children under 18 years of age, to be funded by the states and local governments with support of the federal government, public health efforts to reduce the rate of maternal and child mortality. Other initiatives include the institution of a well- funded welfare system, combating sexual violence against women by encouraging them to speak out about sexual violence and other violations of their rights and prevention of all forms of child abuse such as child labour, child marriage and child abandonment. The former vice-president condemned the poor educational, health and social situation of women and the girl-child in our society and criticised the lack of opportunities available to the girl-child. He, however, commended the effort and foresight of the founder of WOTCLEF and the team that made the endeavour a success. According to Atiku, “educating girls is vital to society because girls who acquire education tend to become better mothers, and tend to have fewer, healthier and well-looked after children.” He described as “very poor and embarrassing, the 2012 Gender in Nigeria report which placed Nigeria at 118 out of the 134 countries in gender equality index stating that the report shows that we are not treating our women and girls well.” Speaking at the event, representative of NAPTIP, Abdulrahim Opotu Shaibu, a director, disclosed that the organisation has rescued more than 6,000 trafficked women and children and achieved the conviction of 258 traffickers since the agency came into being. Politics / Boko Haram Denies Cease Fire Agreement by matrixx9(m): 5:54pm On Nov 01, 2014 |
In the ongoing back and forth between the Nigerian government and Boko Haram, the militant terrorist group's leader has denied both a cease-fire with the government and plans to release more than 200 kidnapped schoolgirls. Abubakar Shekau, seen in this video from early October, released a more recent message on Friday saying the missing schoolgirls have converted to Islam and have all been married off. (Video via Sahara TV ) If true, it stands as a complete reversal of reports from earlier this month that the Nigerian government was in the process of freeing the schoolgirls and working on a much-needed cease- fire with Boko Haram. (Video via CNN ) The validity of the announced cease-fire was questioned as a possible pre-election publicity stunt by the government, and further attacks on villages by Boko Haram cast it into further doubt. After the release of this latest video, an Al Jazeera correspondent reporting from Nigeria's capital says there's a feeling the country is back at square one in freeing the kidnapped girls. AHMED IDRIS VIA AL JAZEERA: "The general feeling here is of anxiety or fear of that sense that we are back to where we were two weeks ago." This isn't the only time military officials and Boko Haram have offered conflicting reports either. (Video via BBC) In September, Cameroonian officials claimed they had killed Shekau showing a grainy photo as proof. A month later, he appeared in a video telling officials he was still alive. (Video via Euronews) A recent report by Human Rights Watch revealed new details on the conditions those kidnapped by the terrorist group face, including abuse, forced labor, and forced participation in military operations. Celebrities / I Never Knew Acting Would Take Me This Far- Genevieve Nnaji by matrixx9(m): 5:40pm On Nov 01, 2014 |
SHE WAS described as ‘Nollywood’s Julia Roberts’ by Oprah in 2009, yet Nigerian actress Genevieve Nnaji has doubled Roberts’ film count – with a total of 80 credits to her name – in a career that has spanned almost two decades. Making her television debut at the tender age of eight, Nnaji has gone on to become one of Nigeria’s hottest and most successful faces. From 2003’s Blood Sister, alongside fellow Nollywood star Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, to the more recent blockbuster Half of a Yellow Sun, opposite London-born Hollywood actor Thandie Newton and 12 Years a Slave’s leading man, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nnaji has revelled in a cross-section of scripts in the ever-competitive industry. Much like Nollywood, which is now the second biggest film industry in the world, Nnaji has worked incredibly hard to get to the top, a feat she says she owes to the West African market, which launched her onto the world’s stage. “We’ve been churning out films for years now and we’ve managed to break into the homes of millions of people around the world,” she says. “There are a lot of success stories that have come out of [the Nollywood film industry].” And Nnaji is definitely one of them. The 35-year-old actress, the fourth of eight children, was born in Mbaise, Imo State, Nigeria, into a strict middle class Catholic family. Her father is a retired banker and her mother a schoolteacher. Though the actress completed all her studies, she shunned ‘conventional’ professions like her parents and opted instead for career in the arts. However, she is quick to point out that her 19-year-old daughter Chimebuka, who is the same age Nnaji was when she found fame, won’t do the same. “I think we have enough entertainers in our family quite frankly,” she laughs. On her journey in film, the softly-spoken star said: “[When I did my first television appearance] I was eight, we were pretty much just playing around. “I was a child model and there was an opportunity for any child actors to come in and perform and the best way they could do that was to go into an agency and that’s how I got involved at an early age. I went back to school, so it wasn’t like a continuous process. Coming back into it, I was 19 and it was something that I wanted to do by that time. I didn’t know it would take me this far though, but I’m grateful, I can’t complain. So far, so good.” In 2005, Nnaji won the Best Actress in a Leading Role at the inaugural Africa Movie Academy Awards and earns an estimated N2.5m (£9,375.33) –N3.5 m (£13,125.42) per Nollywood movie. It’s quite apt to note here that the West African movie machine employs over a million people, churns out approximately 2,500 movies a year, most of which go direct to television and DVD across the continent and further abroad. She said of her success in a recent interview: “For a long time I kept thinking, OK, this is just temporary, definitely I’m going to go back to school and read law, English or something.” But after film number 15, it’s probably safe to say the actress had found her calling. And having conquered many milestones in film, the award-winning star has moved into fashion, recently launching her new line, St Genevieve, described as “the epitome of elegance, created for women with sophistication at its core,” in her Nigerian hometown. “[St Genevieve] is me basically trying to ease myself slowly and softly into the market. By recreating my personal style into my fashion label, I am creating this collection that brings to life strong and sexy pieces for every woman to look good. I’m definitely going to do a men’s line in the future and go crazy with the styles,” she says. But in the first instance, Nnaji has drawn on her own “conservative” style for inspiration. She has also joined forces with Jumia, Africa’s leading online shopping destination, which enables her to sell her designs all over the continent. “They’re the biggest retail store we have in Africa, so having them as partner is amazing, I couldn’t ask for more. Our partnership gives us the opportunity to reach other countries in Africa so it’s a good platform to distribute.” Her ultimate aim, however, is to see her designs, which is themed around pieces from chic to casual, worn all over the world, especially in the UK. “We have Nigerians and Africans all over the world, there are thousands of them in the UK. It would be a great thing to be able to see my line stocked in retail stores around in the UK. “We’re working on that as we speak. We’ll try and target major stores to ensure we reach everyone who identifies with me and my style.” Even without fashion, Nnaji’s influence around the world is undeniable. With over 1.4 million fans on social media, her transition from film to fashion looks set to be as seamless as her most coveted dress from her line, but something that may not be so smooth is her acceptance of the word “role model”. “I don’t put pressure on myself by considering myself a role model. I don’t think that’s what I set out to be when I wanted to act, but along the way, I guess that’s what I have become. For me, I feel whatever I am doing; I will always be true to myself.” What she is more that willing to accept is the effect her success has on fellow dark-skinned women, coming from a country that is thought to have the world’s highest percentage of women using skin-lightening agents. She says: “People need to definitely erase the mindset that any other colour is better than your colour. I think it’s a complex. I am dark-skinned, I know who I am inside, forget the skin. I think darker-skinned women should really focus on the inner beauty and not allow somebody else’s complex or insecurities to overshadow their confidence.” Source : http://..com.es/2014/11/i-never-knew-acting-would-take-me-this.html |

Politics / Rivers PDP Secretariat Set Ablaze By Arsonists by matrixx9(m): 1:55pm On Oct 31, 2014 |
A part of the Rivers state secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP was gutted by fire in the early hours of Friday. Vanguard gathered that the timely intervention of those around saved the building from being consumed by the fire. A source said the fire was even put out before arrival of fire fighters from the state. It could not be confirmed if documents were destroyed. The state Chairman of the party, Mr Felix Obuah who spoke on the incident blamed it on those whom he alleged did not want the party ward congress slated for tomorrow to hold. It is not clear if he referred to the opposition parties in the state or opposition within the party. The PDP has been enmeshed in internal crisis in the last four months with some of the party members calling for the dissolution of the state leadership on the ground that it is allegedly acting the script of the former Minister of State for Education, Mr Nyesom Wike, an allegation the party leadership had continued to deny. On his part, Wike who is also contesting for the party’s ticket for the next governorship election also dismissed the allegation as false. Meantime, about fifteen governorship aspirants of the party Thursday called on the national leadership of the party to ensure the governorship ticket did not go to an Ikwerre man, apparently referring to Nr Wike who is from Ikwerre. According to them it would amount to injustice if another Ikwerre man succeeded governor Chibuike Amaechi who is from Ikwerre. Some of them also accused the state leadership of the party of moving to install Wike as the party’s candidate. The state Chairman of the party, Mr Obua said the congress would still go ahead inspite of the protest and complaints http://..com.es/2014/10/rivers-pdp-secretariat-set-ablaze-by.html Source : |

Phones / MTN Planning On Delivering Super Fast Internet Access To Its Customers by matrixx9(m): 9:42pm On Oct 30, 2014 |
Alcatel-Lucent is opening up Africa's most populous nation to the benefits of ultra-broadband connectivity by launching a superfast, 100 gigabit- per-second fiber-optic network with MTN Nigeria, a subsidiary of Dubai-based MTN Group. MTN Nigeria, which covers more than almost 90 percent of Nigeria's land mass, will deploy a 100G network that re-uses existing 10G optical assets thereby preserving MTN past investments while ensuring future proof and state of art solution. According to Lynda Saint-Nwafor, CTO of MTN Nigeria said,"MTN realized we needed to upgrade our network to meet customer expectations for ultra- broadband connectivity and high reliability within Nigeria's very competitive marketplace. We wanted a state of the art solution that met three main criteria: increased network reliability, a high degree of scalability to prepare the network for 400G and beyond, and preservation of our existing 10G investment. Alcatel-Lucent's demonstrations showed that they could meet all of our criteria and we look forward to deploying the network overlay in 2014." Nigeria's growing economy is fueling a proliferation of mobile subscribers, which number about 275 to every one landline in the country. As a result, Nigeria has a significant need for reliable, mobile broadband access to support growing demand for bandwidth hungry services such as streaming video plus the ever-increasing need from enterprises for storage and data center connections. The new network also gives MTN the capacity and flexibility to offer wholesale services to other service providers in the region. MTN Nigeria is the biggest mobile operator in Nigeria, Africa's most populous country, and West Africa region with more than 58 million subscribers and also is the largest subsidiary in the MTN Group. MTN Nigeria's network covers 88.8 percent of the country's land mass giving 86.2 percent of the population access to mobile services. Alcatel-Lucent is supporting MTN Nigeria's rapid growth in mobile subscribers by building a 100G DWDM/OTN network using Alcatel-Lucent's 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) platform, a family of equipment that has been designed according to the latest international SD-FEC zero touch photonics and coherent technology. "We knew that MTN's top priority was to provide reliability to their customers but they also wanted to offer ultra-broadband and they wanted to retain usefulness of as much of their legacy network as possible. We were able to show that we can give them a cost-effective solution that accomplishes all of their goals in a way that no one else could," said Hatim Zougari, Country Senior Officer of Alcatel-Lucent in Nigeria. Alcatel-Lucent Agile Optical Networking combines WDM, OTN, and GMPLS/ASON control plane intelligence to assure scalable, versatile, reliable and efficient transport at 100G and beyond.
