Politics / I Regret Supporting Amaechi In 2007 —odili by matrixx9(m): 7:32am On Dec 29, 2014
Former Governor of Rivers
State, Dr. Peter Odili, has said
he regrets supporting Rivers
State Governor Rotimi Amaechi
in the course of his political
career to become governor of
Rivers State in 2007.
Odili spoke for the first time on
his estranged relationship with
his godson (Amaechi) in
Andoni at the weekend during
campaign tour of the
immediate past Minister of
State for Education and
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,
candidate, Nyesom Wike, for
the 2015 gubernatorial
election.
He stated that Amaechi on
becoming governor dismantle
all enduring structures the
founding fathers of the PDP
had built with great care and
vision.
According to Odili, “we thought
we did the right thing by
supporting Amaechi to become
governor of the state. We left a
united state. We also left a
united party. PDP was one.
“Rivers State is PDP. There was
no other party in Rivers State
other than the PDP. Whatever
the party hierarchy said will
happen happened. The
secretary is here to support
what I am telling you here
today.
“With all the best intentions we
supported his political career
and ambition. We thought we
did what was best for the
state. As you know, until a
man has power and money you
don’t really know him, but that
is a story for the future.
“One thing is clear, we have
accepted our mistake and we
are determined to correct it in
2015,” the former governor
said.
He commended Wike for
rescuing and reuniting the
party after Governor Amaechi
defected to the APC, along with
former state chairman of PDP,
Chief Godspower Ake, his
commissioners, supporters and
all except one of the 23 local
government chairmen elected
under the PDP together with all
23 local government chairmen
of the party in the state.
Also speaking, state chairman
of PDP, Felix Obuah, enjoined
members not to be afraid to
fully participate in the 2015
general elections.
“Don’t be frightened. Come out
during the election to vote for
our candidates. It is PDP for
president; PDP for governor;
PDP for Senate, House of
Representatives and House of
Assembly,” Obuah said.

Politics / Nigerian Billionaire Folorunsho Alakija Now Richest Black Woman by matrixx9(m): 7:15am On Dec 29, 2014
Despite falling oil prices, Nigerian Billionaire,
Folorunsho Alakija has edged past Oprah
Winfery as world's richest Black Woman, with
a fortune of $7.3bn. On the other hand,
Oprah Winfrey is worth $2.9billion, according
to Forbes.
According to Ventures Africa magazine's Rich
List, Alakija generated her wealth from oil
and gas.
"It is widely believed that Alakija's friendship
with Maryam Babangida, the late wife of
former head of state, Ibrahim Babangida,
played a huge role in her relatively
inexpensive acquisition of the oil block back
in 1993," the magazine noted.
United Kingdom-based Business Consultant,
Philip Obi cautions that Alakija's stand is
shaky because oil is fast losing value in the
face of falling oil prices. "Except she decides
to diversify, 90% wealth in oil look unsteady
considering the alternative energy potential,"
Obi said.
"The world is going digital. Very soon, wealth
will no longer be what we use to know; look
at Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. That is
where the world is going into- Digital world.
The people who will continue to rule will be
those in communications, food and health,
social media, finance. These pillars are going
to be critical to run the world. People are
becoming multi- millionaire by just building
smile apps."
For his part, National President of
Independent Shareholders Association (ISAN),
Sunny Nwosu said that her ranking as
world's richest black woman is
understandable because she has one of the
biggest oil wells in the country that is
managed on her behalf by a leading
multinational oil corporation.
"Her oil well is one of the investments the
military government bequeathed to people
like her," Nwosu said.
According to Ventures Africa, Africa boasts
55 billionaires and they're worth a staggering
$143.88 billion in total.
Alakija started her career as a secretary in a
bank in the mid 1970s, Alakija, 62, then
studied fashion in London and returned to
Nigeria to start a label, Supreme Stitches. But
her biggest break came in oil. In 1993, her
company, Famfa Oil, was awarded an oil
prospecting license, which later became OML
127, one of Nigeria's most prolific oil blocks
The company owns a 60 per cent stake in the
block, valued at around $7.3 billion, said

Politics / Nigeria Signs Fresh Agreement for 1 GW Solar Power Capacity by matrixx9(m): 12:44pm On Dec 28, 2014
Nigeria has adopted an approach to directly
engage with prospective project developers to
set up renewable energy projects. The
government has recently finalised a new
agreement to set up a lot more solar power
capacity.
In the latest round of negotiations, the
Nigerian government has received pledges
from three companies to set up a total of 1
GW solar power capacity across the country.
The entire program will include large utility-
scale power projects as well as distributed
power projects.
The agreements have been signed between the
Nigerian government and Solius NGPC,
Peoples Home Association, and Solar Force
Nigeria Limited.
Peoples Home Association announced that it
will set up 500 MW of capacity across the
country. This capacity will be added in five
tranches of 100 MW each. Solar Force Nigeria
Limited will set up 200 small-scale projects of
1 MW each across as many villages.
Solius NGC is expected to set up the balance
300 MW capacity. However, the size and type
of the projects is unknown. The company will
also set up a training centre for power sector
professionals. Peoples Home Association will
also set up solar research centers across
universities in Nigeria to help generate about
10,000 jobs in the solar power sector.
The Nigerian government, on its part, has
pledged full assistance to these companies
and will provide them with land and a
transmission network, and it will help the
companies meet regulatory requirements for
setting up the projects.
With these fresh MoUs, the total solar power
capacity pledged by various companies in
Nigeria this year has crossed 5 GW.
Earlier this year, SkyPower FAS Energy signed
a series of agreements to set up 3 GW of solar
power capacity in the country . This capacity
would be added through utility-scale projects
and represents an investment worth $5 billion.
In late November, two US-based companies
pledged to set up a total solar power capacity
of 1.2 GW by 2017 . The projects will require a
cumulative investment of $2 billion dollars
and once operational will generate enough
power to meet the demands of 1 million
homes in the country.

Religion / 6m Christians Worldwide Are Members Ofthe Winners’ Chapel – Oyedepo by matrixx9(m): 10:17am On Dec 28, 2014
About six million out of the 2.18 billion
Christians in the world are members of
the Living Faith Church, also known as
the Winners Chapel, according to the
President of the Church, Bishop David
Oyedepo.
The members are spread across 147
nations in the world, he said on Saturday
at a breakfast meeting with members of
Omu-Aran Government Secondary School
Old Boys Association (OGSSOBA), which
held at the Landmark University, Omu-
Aran, Kwara, Vanguard reports.
Oyedepo, who is the Chancellor of
Landmark and Covenant Universities and
also a member of OGSSOBA, advised
members of old boys association to
rededicate themselves to arresting the
infrastructure decay in all colleges and
institutions across the length and breadth
of the country.
According to him, the task of improving
infrastructure in schools cannot be left to
the government alone.
“No amount is too small or too big
toward the growth, progress and
development of the schools,” he said.
The newly elected president of the
association, Segun Adeniyi described
Oyedepo as a living legend of the
Nigeria’s education sector.
He said that Oyedepo remained a role
model to both the current and old
students of Government Secondary School
in Omu-Aran.
Adeniyi appealed to all members of the
association to identify with the aspiration
of the school in order to make it a model
among its peers

Airbus A320-200, lost contact with the

Mustofa said the plane had asked for an
unusual route before it lost contact.

Politics / APC Wants To Divide Nigeria, says PDP by matrixx9(m): 6:45am On Dec 28, 2014
The leadership of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP ) Saturday
accused the All Progressives Congress
( APC) of pursuing an agenda towards
ensuring the division of the country.
The PDP made the allegation against
the main opposition party in the
country in a statement issued by its
National Publicity Secretary , Olisa
Metuh , in an attempt at showing
support for President Goodluck
Jonathan ’s warning to the APC
recently , admonishing leaders of the
opposition and some former office
holders to “desist from sowing seeds of
discord among the people with their
incendiary utterances.”
Metuh , in the statement , described the
President ’s statement as a “ perfect act
in nationalism , the mark of a true
leader who is committed to the interest
and welfare of the nation and her
citizens ” and urged the opposition to
“ heed this caution, show decency ,
patriotism and shun do-or -die quest for
power .”
The PDP said that the President had
shown as always that he is “a
committed national and patriotic
leader , a decent politician , a lover of a
united , stable and prosperous Nigeria
and a champion of the integrity of the
nation ’s electoral process. ”
According to the PDP , “it is the height
of hypocrisy that the APC, known for
making inflammatory and divisive
statements , would turn round to point a
finger of guilt at the President.
“ It is indeed unfortunate that instead of
retracing their steps, as all well -
meaning citizens would have done
under the circumstance , the APC , in
their desperation , went ahead to justify
their unguarded statements with
renewed personal attacks on the
President .
“ By refusing to heed calls by patriotic
Nigerians , including the President, to
shed their penchant for inciting
statements , and for showing no
remorse over the fact that their
statements fuel violence and
insurgency , the APC has again
confirmed that it is a party of
unpatriotic elements on a mission to
destroy our country .
“ This has further confirmed that APC is
a party of determined and irredeemable
anarchists; a tool in the hands of
enemies of our dear nation whose
agenda is to divide the people and
break up the nation for their selfish
interests.
“ Nigerians can now see the real reason
the APC has been attacking , not only
the Presidency but also key institutions
of government , including the National
Assembly , the judiciary, INEC as well as
the military and other security forces .
For the APC, every institution that
represents or protects the unity of the
nation must be attacked, weakened and
ultimately destroyed. ”
The PDP said further that, “ This was
the agenda behind the move by the
APC to politicise the military and other
security agencies, including the DSS
and the Police .

Politics / Exposed :israel Plotting To Assassinate Nigeria's Top Muslim Leader by matrixx9(m): 9:28pm On Nov 20, 2014
The Zionist regime is seeking to coax the Nigerian
government into assassination of the African
country's top
Shiite leader Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, his son
revealed on Wednesday.
"Given the Zionists' strong relations with the Nigerian
government, they always take action against the
Shiites in Nigeria," Ali Zakzaky told FNA.
He revealed that the Zionists are pressuring the
Nigerian government to assassinate Sheikh Zakzaky
soon, and the government is looking for an
opportunity as it also sees the Shiite leader as a
burden due to his harsh criticism of the government's
atrocities against people.
"The US and the Zionists are pressuring the
government to assassinate the Nigerian Shiite leader
for their fear of the 12-million-strong Shiite
population in Nigeria," Ali Zakzaky said.A suicide
bomber detonated himself in the Tsohuwar Kasuwa
area of the Nigerian town after joining
Shiite worshippers who were marching to mark
Ashura, a solemn day when Shiites mourn the
martyrdom of Imam Hossein, a grandson of
Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), in 680 AD at Karbala in
Iraq.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack
which killed at least 20 and injured over 50, but
suspicion is bound to fall on the Boko
Haram terrorist group.
Late in July peaceful rallies by Muslims in Nigeria
held on the occasion of the International Quds Day
turned violent as Nigerian troops killed
a number of participants in a major city in the
Northern parts of the country, including the three
sons of a prominent Muslim leader who is an
opponent of Boko Haram.
The troops attacked peaceful Quds Day rallies in
Zaria city in the Northern Nigerian state of Kaduna
on Friday, killing at least 14
demonstrators and injuring more than 20 others, the
Islamic Human Rights Commission reported in a
press release.
Three sons of the Leader of the Islamic Movement in
Nigeria Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Zakzaky, including 18-
year-old Syed Mahmud Ibrahim Al-
Zakzaky, were among the 14 killed in Zaria city.
Dozens of men and women, including three other
children of the sheikh, were also arrested during the
rallies.
Witnesses say that the soldiers involved in the
shooting came from the Military Depot at Sabon Gari
Barracks.
Al-Zakzaky has frequently been imprisoned under
the various Nigerian juntas and is a fierce critic of
political corruption, as well as the so-called
Boko Haram movement.
Three truckloads of armed soldiers opened fire at the
participants of the rally.
A large number of Nigerians, including members of
the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, came out on the
International Quds Day to protest in
solidarity with the Palestinians.
The long procession went through streets of the city of
Zaria carrying pictures of the massacre in Gaza.
Many have condemned the continuous
bombardment of the people of Gaza by the Israeli
military resulting in the killing of over 900 civilians,
mostly women and children.
The protesters burnt the American and Israeli flags to
condemn the occupation of Palestine and the
continuous killing of the Palestinians.
Zaria is the second major city in Kaduna State, and
near the state capital, Kaduna, where twin bomb
blasts killed scores of people earlier this
week.
Then further to the shootings and killing of pro-
Palestinian protesters at Al-Quds Day march in
Zaria, and the subsequent killings in custody of
protestors, the army raided the Hussainiyyah
Baqiyyatullah Islamic Centre affiliated to the
Islamic Movement a day later on July 26 and
opened fire killing 3, and injuring 7.
The center where some of the injured from Friday’s
massacre (photos are available here) were sheltering,
as well as where some of released bodies
of those killed were being prepared for burial.
This added to the Quds Day’s death toll. Whilst the
reports from the Quds Day massacre indicated that
the troops involved were from the Sabon
Gari barracks, those in charge there are claiming
that the troops involved were in fact sent from Abuja
and were not commanded from the locale.
The Islamic Movement in Nigeria is not an armed
movement. It has organized peaceful pro-Palestinian
demonstrations on annual basis for over
33 years across Nigeria and particularly in the state
of Kaduna.
IHRC Chair, Massoud Shadjareh said, “The
Goodluck - Netanyahu co-operation is resulting in
massacres beyond Gaza’s borders. The blood of
these young men and women killed in Nigeria is
equally on the hands of both men and regimes.”
Demonstrations and vigils protesting recent events in
Nigeria are planned in various cities world-wide.

Education / 118 Make First Class As UNIBEN Graduates 19,472 by matrixx9(m): 9:18pm On Nov 11, 2014
The management of the University of Benin on
Tuesday said that no fewer than 118 graduands of
the university would be awarded with first class
degrees at its 39th and 40th convocation and
Founder’s Day ceremonies.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor
Godwin Oshodin, who disclosed this to journalists in
Benin, said that out of a total of 19,472 graduands
from the 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 academic
sessions, 16,076 would bag first degrees while 130
would be awarded with doctorate degrees.
The award of certificates, diplomas and first degrees,
which would hold on November 20, would be
proceeded by a convocation lecture to be delivered by
the Vice-Chancellor of Lancaster University, Professor
Mark Smith.
Professor Oshodin said that nine recently completed
projects, including the university bookshop and a
500-capacity lecture theatre for the faculty of
management sciences, would be commissioned
during the week of the ceremonies.
Oshodin, whose tenure would end on November 30,
explained that no fewer than 4,000 person were
employed by the university with prompt staff
remuneration, while about 25 new projects were
ongoing, some of which were funded through
internally generated revenue.
“Suffice it to say that up till this moment a total of
91 new projects have been executed. This is outside the
massive renovation and purchase of equipment that
have been carried out,” he added.
While commending the support of the federal
government and other stakeholders, the Vice-
Chancellor also solicited more funding for research
and human development.
