This guys comments are really intelligent and if APC finds him annoying they should simply sit-up and put their house in order. If PDP can put its house in order by 2019 it might not be a bad idea to change this unprepared govt just as American change ruling parties every now and then - even Gambia and Ghana are following suit. Let's start changing incompetent govts every four years - right from the time of Jonathan let's only give fed govt 4 years to perform or be booted out. If Buhari knew he strictly had only 4years to deliver and no second term, he wouldn't have wasted 6months of his tenure doing monkey business with choosing his ministers thereby leading us into recession. He would have hit the ground running.Everybody can see the serious work Trump is doing with regards to his prospective cabinet members. So when he takes over he won't have to blame Obama unlike our govt - seems this people want to use their 4years blaming Jonathan and achieving nothing. |

Now I know Buhari has no solution to this recession. A good govt will focus on business and silently fight corruption without making noise but this govt neglects business and preoccupies itself with media corruption fights. One question for madam - what happens to Nigerian Women Against Hunger. That makes more sense and its impact can be felt and measured among Nigerians. |

Newbiee: Okonjo Iweala, a woman that had seen it all could come out to say at an American conference that the SEED OF THIS RECESSION WAS PLANTED DURING THE JONATHAN REGIME DUE TO OUR LACK OF FINANCIAL DISCIPLINE, INABILITY AND LACK OF POLITICAL WILL TO SAVE. People should not blame jonathan alone for this because the profligate Nigerian Governors too are culpable. He attempted to save, but the governors demanded to take all the savings citing constitutional right. Money they took and stole at the same time. Our case is pathetic. Do you know that: Obasanjo's administration earned # 17trn from crude oil sales within eight years and left behind 45bn dollars external reserves and 3.348bn dollars external debt. Yaradua grew the reserves to 64bn dollars within just one year and the administration was able to finance 15 months of imports despite the 2008/2009 world economic meltdown. Hence, Nigeria survived the melt down because of the political will by the administration to save (a great achievement by Yaradua which most Nigerians are not aware of). Despite the tough economic reality at that time, Yaradua left 47.7bn dollars in reserves and an external debt of 3.94bn dollars. Meanwhile, the administration earned only # 9trn from crude oil sales within that short period. Now, Jonathan administration witnessed an oil boom when Brent crude sold for over 100 dollars/barrel, with the regime earning # 51trn within a period of 5years. But because of corruption, the administration did not only squander the oil revenue but even depleted the reserves left by Yaradua, leaving just 32bn dollars and a huge external debt of 63bn dollars for Buhari. The same Brent crude sold for as low as 35 dollars/barrel at a point shortly after Buhari took over power and had only managed to climb to about 48 dollars just recently. These are facts that can be verified. So, it's amazing hearing people criticize Buhari for the hunger in the land. According to Fashola, Buhari's administration inherited 206 uncompleted road projects and contract arrears worth #2.1trn from Jonathan; and for about 2 to 3 years the contractors where not paid. This slowed down the economic activities, with most of the companies laying off their staff. This was when the seed of recession was sowed. It's obvious that Buhari came in to rescue Nigeria, because if Jonathan had continued in power, the nation's economic crisis would have been worse, perhaps even the Federal government wouldn't have been able to pay salaries of civil servants by now. According to Okonjo Iweala, Nigeria started borrowing money to pay salaries since October, 2014; but today Nigeria now borrow money for investment in capital projects. Those who blame Buhari for the current hardship do so either out of mischief (hatred) or ignorance. So, we shouldn't join the bandwagon in criticising him. He may not have done much to save the situation, considering that he is not a perfect human being but he means well for the country and can only succeed with our prayers. May Almighty God continue to guide Buhari Administration and Nigerians in general. Why not share this piece with others for the sake of enlightenment and conscious prayers for our nation. We have the responsibility to enlighten others. Mischievous, ignorant people/ politicians should not drag us backwards. Your boss saw the state of things and yet waited 6months to appoint ministers. I guess that was also Jonathan's fault? Foreign investors withdrew their investments becos of Buharis govt policies but u will rather have us blame Jonathan for that too. Which State Govt saved 1\100 of what Jonathan saved and Buhari spent and now looking for more thru loans. Buharis body language messed up the economy. Period! |

I hope the dismissal and removal cuts across board. I hope political office holders and aides are affected too because they are the main cause why we are in this recession. What about the state House of Assembly - I hope their certificate screening will reach there and also review their salaries because I don't even see anything those lawmakers are doing other than sharing monies with the executives. |

This govt is clearly against the youth knowing fully well that 95% of internet users are youths. No two ways about it. The youth are the future of this country and their creativity should not be stiffled but on the contrary subsidised. Now it will be more expensive for final year students to get their research materials from the net. This government is taking us backward when youths in other places are contributing to their societies thru the internet. |

mrrights: My brother, it is not the duty of inec to help one party sort out its internal problems, so don't even go there at all. What concerned inec with who is popular or not? Would inec go about conducting survey to know who the party wants? If PDP is not matured enough to handle their party affairs, they should wind up rather than be disturbing other serious parties Then we are not ready for true democracy - a government of the people, by the people and for the people. |
Politics › Re: Why Conduct Of Ondo Election On Saturday Will Violate The Law – Jegede by Max24: 9:12pm On Nov 24, 2016 |
Pedagogue: My initial reaction was: If INEC postponed Edo election days to the election, what stops them from doing same...However, unlike in Edo, sensitive election materials had not been deployed before INEC (due to pressure from Oshiomhole & FG) postponed that election.
Besides, Jegede's argument is about logistics, not law. PDP and not Jegede's name is what is on the ballot. The party agents forwarded by the Poroye faction are all members of the PDP. Besides, the role of polling agents is to be present at the distribution of election materials and at the polling booth. The Electoral Act clearly provides that the non-attendance/non recognition of polling agents cannot invalidate an election. Jegede is a SAN. He should know better.
The euphoria over the court victory disappeared immediately Jegede/Mimiko returned to the battlefield. Their supporters have left them. Defeat is staring them in the face. Unless the election is postponed, Jegede stands no chance.
From feelers, Oke (AD) is the next governor! However, Akeredolu's (APC) federal might must NEVER be underrated. Read what you wrote again and convince yourself it made sense. So, u expect agents picked by poroye not to backstab Eyitayo ? Pls, let the people have the opportunity to pick their governor fairly. Let there be a level playing field for all. |
Politics › Re: Why It Is Ridiculous To Demand Shift In Ondo Election by Max24: 3:51pm On Nov 24, 2016 |
mrrights: I find it quite shocking and laughable that some social media commentators are also calling for shifting Ondo Governorship election like those shameless politicians. I must confess, this is most unfortunate and ridiculous. First of all, there are over 50 political parties in Nigeria. Each of them have a responsibility to manage their internal affairs without disturbing others with their intraparty fracas. I don't know how many of those 50 parties have candidates for Ondo election, but I know they are more than 10. So, because 1 party is having problem managing it's internal affairs to decide who flies it's ticket, you are calling on Inec to disrupt the plans and preparation of other parties in contrast to the lay down rules. Who does that? Think for a moment. If Sdp is having the kind of conflict in PDP, would you have asked Inec to shift the date for them to prepare? If AD is having similar problem as PDP, would you ask Inec to shift the date for them to prepare? You and I know the answer. So, why are you calling on Inec to do for PDP, what you will never call them to do for AD, Sdp, Accord, Labour etc? Because of one party's irresponsible behavior, you want Inec to shift election, that's not fairness. Okay. Let's pretend you are correct to advocate for shifting the election. Do you know each party must have planned their finances in line with the election date? Do you know that any attempt to shift the date would significantly jeopardize the chances of other parties or candidates that do not have extra budget for such uncalled for shifting? In case any of the participating parties do not have resources to accommodate the postponement, will you also advocate for them to be reimbursed so they could meet up the demands? Huh,I hope you see how ridiculous such advocacy for shifting the election date is. This is like a track race. As soon as the whistle to begin was blown, everyone is responsible for themselves. If one athlete fall down after whistle to start running had been blown, it has never been heard of, that others would be held back for that reason. Some people might be arguing that election has been shifted before, and I agree with them, but we must remember, those elections weren't shifted because of a party's dispute. All past elections that were shifted were for security reasons. Security of Inec materials and the electorates. Finally, let me conclude that, the infighting in PDP didn't prevent PDP from campaigning. As a matter of fact, I see it as advantage. People don't vote for individuals in election, they vote for the party. Jimoh has been campaigning as the party's candidate, Jegede has also been doing the same. At this point, let both of them continue. Jimoh should urge his supporters to vote for PDP and let Jegede do the same. That's advantage for the party and if they win, they can continue the battle in court. Abdulrazaq O Hamzat It is the fault of inec. Inec should have used its common sense. True democracy is about numbers and everybody in the country except inec for whatever reasons knows that On do PDP people don't want Jimoh even if he qualifies legally. Inec need not use technicalities to subvert popular wishes. They will end up attracting loss of confidence from the people. Hope they have learnt from this. |

When the Shi'a killing happened, we condemned the act but equally took cognizance of the sect members confronting the army. In any society, any sect taking up arms to confront security agents has invited death upon its members.
Nigerian govt clashing with Shi'a did not start with this current govt. It has happened on several occasions. Why always them? How many arms did they take up against the security agencies ? How many machine guns , tanks, anti-gun aircraft, gun helicopters did the Shiites use to attack the army ? So because they blocked the road with planks of wood, they should be killed with riffles. At the rate u are going u might as well ask the NA to go and shoot down ICC justices for daring to question Nigerian military. Typical ,zombie !!! |

The Ghana President is smart. They are trying to woo NOI since Nigeria does not know the value of its asset in NOI. Correct me if I am wrong : no Nigeria has risen to the level NOI reached in the International financial sector ever.Emeka Anyaoku reached a high position only in the political sector. What is essentially missing in Buharis economic team is a highly connected international player of NOIs status who can sell Nigeria to international investors and lenders. After APC and the likes of Oshiomole has insulted the woman they don't know how to run to her for help. The more we stay in recession the more we should blame APC, Oshomole and PMB. |
