Why is it so difficult for many religionists to talk about their own faith as a unique group did in the first century but always rushing to criticize what a unique religion teaches? Act 13:50; 14:2, 19; 17:13 smiley

Why were Jesus' disciples recognized with their unique faith in the first century but today what we have is thousands of different religious sects with contradicting teachings and conflicting doctrines all claiming Christians? smiley

The British a hundred or two years ago is difficult from the Romans over 2000 years ago!
Some people like Paul/Saul have dual names since they are registered as partly Roman!
Jesus was completely local!
It has always been the same format when we are talking about foreigners ruling over indigins the language recognized by the rulers comes first.
Paul was well educated his name is Saul but later his Christian brothers began calling him Paul. As for Jesus he is a Jew taught to speak the language that other children around him could relate with just as your own child will speak both your language and English because that will help him a lot in his career or business! smiley

Then a translator is employed!
That's why literacy became part of the criteria to appoint traditional rulers when the British colonized us but centuries before the time of Jesus the Greek language has been the lingua franca commonly spoken around the Mediterranean Sea.
So if you can't speak the elite's Greek language you should at least be able to speak ponia (pidgin Greek) whoever can't speak both surely have a problem because when such a person is unfairly treated nobody will get a translator for him or her! smiley

Dude stop adding or quoting bible out of context
That's exactly what you did when we are talking about the norm in Christianity!

Nobody wants to be a bench warmer anywhere so if you're not qualified to be a Bishop or Deacon then you're not worthy of honor among God's people! 1 Timothy 5:17

I gave u a clear verse, what's all these?
The verse was directed at Timothy a traveling overseer chosen to form churches among the gentiles in the first century.
Paul instructed Timothy to lay his hands only on gentiles Christians who married only one wife so whoever has more than one knows that something is wrong with his standing.
Bishops are the overseers in the congregation while Deacons are their assistants so if you're not qualified to be any of the two then you're not a complete Christian worthy of honor among God's people. 1Timothy 3:2 & 12
That's the import of what you quoted!

Who told you the Roman governor doesn't understand Jesus's language? Didn't he also communicate with the commoners?
The Roman Governor doesn't need to speak the language of those he is governing just as British governors sent to Nigeria during colonial era doesn't need to speak either Hausa, Ibo or Yorùbá before resuming office! smiley

Yeah! That's why he would rather say Eli Eli than speak Greek! What your proof he understood Greek from the Bible?
Eli Eli lama sabachthani is a proof of a language! Jesus was local and never communicated with external persons who do not understand his first language!
Jesus was talking to his God in that verse that is why he spoke in his mother's tongue nah but if he has to speak with Pontius Pilate a Roman Governor {John 18:33-48} he must use the lingua franca! smiley

1Tim3:2 The bishop therefore must be without reproach, THE HUSBAND OF ONE WIFE, temperate, sober-minded, orderly, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
The above verse indicates Christians do have more than one wife in the apostolic age, but such mustn't be a leader in the church.
Timothy was instructed to lay his hands only on Christians (among the gentiles) with one wife but Jewish Christians don't have more than one wife as they are aware of warming from the last prophet before John the baptist who said Jews should stop dealing treacherously with the wife of their youth {Malachi 2:14-15} so when John the baptist was telling them to repent and turn to God {Matthew 3:1-2} whoever has more than one wife already knows that he is not in good terms with God unless he makes a U-turn.
So if we are moving on to maturity as Christians no longer to be fed with spiritual milk {Hebrews 5:12-14} whoever wants to be recognized as a bonafide member of the Christian congregation he must stop SLEEPING with anyone who is not the wife (not wives) of his youth! Proverbs 5:18

Jesus doesn't understand Greek! The new testament was written in Greek not Hebrew!
Jesus surely understands Greek language very well because in the first century the Romans were ruling Israel after the fall of Greece but before then the Greeks have colonized many countries including Israel so the official language of all those living around the Mediterranean Sea was Greek that's why the New Testament was written in Greek.
Jesus a child born and raised under that colony must be able to speak the language that most people around understood just as your own child today will speak English yet you are not English!

The apostle Paul said:

On the other hand, the fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

Do you know any group that's promoting LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, MILDNESS, FAITH and SELF-CONTROL?

Paul said against such a group there is no law! smiley

NO, he must stop SLEEPING with them as he's now ready to live the life of a Christian so they are free to go if they want but he should continue footing their bills as he choose to do so it's SLEEPING with them that's prohibited in Christianity.

I totally agree with you which proves the topic that John did exaggerate on what Jesus said to mean more that it ought to mean!
The verses in question has no restrictions whatsoever so it remains an incorrect exaggeration. So as you said the "Nothing" and "Whatever" used in those verses are dubious!
That's language barrier for you because in your own language what John meant may totally differ from it's direct translation in your own language that's why context matters when reading the Bible.
John didn't exaggerate it was exactly what Jesus said in their own language that he wrote so if not explained you will misconstrue the whole thing just as you did! smiley

The context is well understood sir!
But the words "NOTHING" and "WHATEVER" is causing a lot of problems here! And you don't need to hide under "the letter kills but the spirit gives life" proposed by Paul! Paul wasn't in the equation when Jesus made that statement in John 5:19.
Truly, truly, I tell you, the Son can do NOTHING (no single thing) by Himself, unless He sees the Father doing it. For WHATEVER the Father does, the Son also does. John 5:18-19!
The context here is not about everything the father does because there are many things God instructed Jesus to do that he Himself God doesn't do.
For instance:
Jesus worships his God please who does God Himself worship?
Jesus ran away when the Jews wanted to kill him. Has God ever ran away from anyone?

So the context is about works that has been commissioned from the beginning which God never stopped such good works is what Jesus is talking about!

What you highlighted was not majorly part of the write up. What constitute the write up is what I said about about Noah and Lot which i provided scriptures for. Why I quoted what you highlighted was to underscore what Noah did. He warned people to escape the destruction to come at that time. Similarly, i was encouraging pastors and ministers to warn their families to escape the wrath of God that will follow RAPTURE.
There you go again!

Everything in your writeup was informative until you brought in the word "RAPTURE"

That's why i asked:

Where can we find the highlighted in the scriptures?
Is the word RAPTURE mentioned anywhere in God's word?
Christianity Etc › Re: The Implication Of Extreme Exaggeration in the Book of John! by MaxInDHouse(m): 11:43am On Nov 07, 2024
The Jews are angry that Jesus healed a paralyzed man on a Sabbath and according to the law no work must be done on the Sabbath {Exodus 20:10} so they were accusing him that he broke God's law yet claiming he's God's son which means he can do anything without putting the laws first {John 5:15-16} that's why he told them that he is doing whatever his father also does {John 5:19} because the Sun, Moon, Air, Rain and other necessary things we need to survive aren't barred by Sabbath so if God doesn't stop supplying all these things that means He is always working that's why Jesus also can't stop working at what is good be it Sabbath or not! John 5:17

You should have taken into consideration the context not just taking Jesus' statement out of context! 2Corinthians 3:6 undecided

Did I mention RAPTURE in the write up?
annyplenty:
BETWEEN NOAH AND LOT

The bible in 2 Peter 2:5-8 described Lot as just and righteous.

2 Peter 2:6-8 KJV
6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;

[7] And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

[8] (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deedswink

Noah also was described as just and righteous in genesis 6:9 and genesis 7:1.

Genesis 6:9 KJV
9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

Genesis 7:1 KJV
And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.

That was a striking similarity between Noah and Lot.

Not only that, the compositions of both families were similar; Noah's family had eight members. For Noah, they were Noah, his wife, his three sons, and his three daughter-in-laws. For Lot, they were Lot, his wife, his four daughters and his two son-in-laws.

However, all the eight members of the family of Noah were saved while Lot lost five out of eight members of his family to destruction.

The cause of this difference is probably found in 2 Peter 2:5, Noah was A PREACHER OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, in addition to being just and righteous like Lot.

2 Peter 2:5
King James Version
5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

Noah must have probably been preaching to his family to escape the wrath and judgement of God that was coming. That, perhaps, could not be said of brother Lot.

The Lord Jesus is coming. The wrath of God is also coming. Tribulation is also coming.

Pastors, Evangelists, Ministers! Don't just preach and prepare your congregation alone. Preach to, and Prepare your family also to meet go with Jesus Christ at RAPTURE, and escape the wrath to come.

JESUS is coming. Stay ready in absolute repentance, holiness and righteousness.
Please check the highlighted!

Exploring the Notion of the Afterlife: Can the Departed Assist the Living in Times of Need?
For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing at all, nor do they have any more reward, because all memory of them is forgotten. Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they no longer have any share in what is done under the sun. Ecclesiastes 9:5-6
