If you feel like being good it's OK but i wouldn't have done that at all, i will first of all question him on:
Why he addressed me as "Brother"?
Why asking me for food?
Did he have a job doing?
What about his family and friends?
If he humbly answer all the questions then he has gained one thing: my undivided attention.

Then i may consider buying him a meal but if he feels the questioning is unwarranted then i will find my way after all we are both strangers to each other and i don't owe him anything.

So you have your own reasons why you choose to behave the way you do and i also have my own reasons for behaving the way i choose.
