danny4sure: Information technology you can study anywhere!
This is a subject that has no merit with employers.
They might need people but they are "Two a penny"
Their status is a bit lower than toilet cleaners in the office ranking. grin grin grin

For real huh
Lool absolutely not true

[quote author=coogar]i make more money a month than your director can ever make. what's the proof that your director even has a university degree? all those quack ACCA-buffs who got into position by the virtue of certification exams won't know shyte about russell-group.

Now u coming up with the African mentality, Look u don't need go to university before u can be successful and lest i forget CFA aiint no bullshit certification it's equivalent to masters degree. No one is given any exemption even those that went to Russell group unis.

coogar: it's true na.
don't let anyone confuse you - russell group schools are your best bet. take loans if you cannot afford to get into one, the rewards in the end is limitless....

now this is the last report from equal approach in october.....

Research has revealed that top industry positions in FTSE 100 companies are dominated by Russell Group graduates, especially from Oxford and Cambridge.

A study has been released by Equal Approach, a pressure group concentrating on addressing diversity in the work place. The report made discoveries about the progression Russell Group students have made in the working world.

The report called Class Ceiling found that over half of board rooms in FTSE 100 companies had Russell Group graduates. 52.6% of graduates from the prestigious 24 were part of the boardrooms in these top UK companies.

that's the reality.......
Am sure he doesn't know much about CFA, can see you studied electrical engineering. Mind you school like Lancaster, Loughborough, Leicester, East Anglia are not in ur "Russell group" but they are def better than Manchester. Well with all you said about Russell group, I don't expect any member to be ranked as far as 42nd. Lol that bad for business, isn't it bro? wink

coogar: it's funny innit - manchester university has produced 25 nobel prize winners. that's 3 times the number of the whole african continent has produced. the laboratory lord rutherford conceived the idea of the chemistry of radioactive substances is still there. - you should take an excursion to see it live with your eyes.

notable names like john dalton(founder of the modern atomic theory), niels bohr, etc all went to manchester university & you are comparing it to a village school like essex university. you must be having a laugh!!!!
Jes laughing at some of your bogus claims abt Essex uni, well I dnt wish to continue this ur biased discussion.
TravelRe: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by mayo47(m): 12:55pm On Dec 07, 2013
coogar: this is like saying ivy-league schools in america have no influence in other countries. see it's bad enough you are a black man as there's already a glass ceiling - don't put yourself in a back-foot already by going to a yeye school & expect the world to be your oyster.

essex university? a swamp of piss. just for the record, how many nobel-prize winners has your school produced? compare to university of manchester & get back to me.

essex uni? i will rather go to offa polytechnic. . grin
I laugh in Spanish lool

coogar: don't go to any yeye school o...UoP? i'd rather join a karate school & forget university education entirely. those aren't good schools - it's like going to DELSU in nigeria when there are top schools like OAU, UI, UNILAG, ABU, etc.

make sure you do well in the interview for KCL. it's a good school that will help your career opportunities in the next 4 years. your choices should be limited to the 24 universities(russell group) - which KCL belongs to. any other school is a waste of your time, money & perhaps gambling with your future.
Portsmouth aiint that bad
TravelRe: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by mayo47(m): 12:14pm On Dec 07, 2013
coogar: who said manchester uni isn't a good school? i went to manchester uni myself & it's one of the 24 schools in the russell-group. are we on the same page here?

manchester uni is a top top school

a chemical engineering graduate from imperial college with the same grade would beat the cranfield graduate to the job 9 out of 10 times. forget story - the class system exists here. check the endowments given to each school by the government & the trust funds then maybe you would understand.

imperial college got £765m as far back as 2012 while coventry got £1.5m - of course, the employers know the students of imperial are well funded to carry out research while coventry students can only watch on DVDs in the classrooms.

i take it that you have not been to nigeria in https://www.nairaland.com/863688/nigerian-students-uk-how-survive/51#20037762the

last 3 years. times have changed!
@coogar pls stop being biased because u think u went to a "top top university" a uni dat not even in the top 20. I went to Essex uni which is in same category with Manchester in terms of ranking. There's nothing special about ur Russell group uni, I have friends that went to even Greenwich and they've got good jobs. Mr Russell group.....lol

miz Gene: Well definitely school ranking cn never b d only factor but at least we hv agreed if is a factor. So isn't it better to look for a better ranked school b4 settling for less?
Like I hv said b4, these schools are looking/infact hunting for intl students, both to boost their profile and for d massive fees we pay.so if some1 needs to make a choice, dy (d intl stdnt) shd always go for d best dt they can get.

We are all studying just to hv an edge in d job market so if d school u attended can give u an edge then why shdnt it be considered when applying?
Yeah i get u one should always aim for the best, going to a top uni is not cheap and that's it. The sacrifice going to a top uni is the high fees & if u aiint got that. Just go to what ur money got to offer and if u put in your best, you surely get the returns. If u can afford any of the top 20 fees den sure good. If not you just try go to a decent uni where the fees are ok, do your best and develop yourself professional wise. This days not all about academic achievement in labour market.i tell anyone if u cant go to any top 20 uni, you can go to the others but not any last 10 ranked uni.

TravelRe: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by mayo47(m): 2:41pm On Dec 06, 2013
miz Gene: I wd advice u to look for a better uni, der are soooo many out der dt wd b glad to hv a qualified intl student enroll with them so don't feel too excited that dy gave u an offer, if u hv the qualifications u can b almost 100% sure to get an offer.

Not like the the school is bad, am sure by Nija standards it is even wonderful cry but by UK standards its rating is rather poor. If u are thinking of settling in the UK pls scratch dt Uni cos those UK ppl no de play with their rankings...
I kinda agree with you but not always, i know peeps that went to not so highly ranked uni and they got good jobs. Going to a good uni is probably just one of the many factors in landing a good job in the UK.

danny4sure: hello iam for salford but march intake, Wadup, have u made up your mind on choice of school

My cuz is heading to salford but I am still trying to choose between Salford and Coventry. grin
Look bro ur course of study would determine, what do u wanna study? For example Salford Accounting & finance ranking way better than Coventry.

sometimes its not all about the general rating, Check specific rating that has to do with ur field of study.

negal: Please btwn Birmingham City University and Coventry Uni (London Campus) which is better for an MBA
There's no much difference between both uni, they are kinda in same category. Well I think Coventry better, I want to assume u got some sort of accommodation in London, if not stay away from london due to high living cost go to Coventry main campus for your program.

bebe2: am bust begining to realise a huge difference in fees that each uni charges for a masters program.

pls lets compile a list of schools and their fees so pple will find it easier to know where to apply considering their pockets.

it wud have been easier tgo open a new thread on fees alone but oga just will close it before the thing can even start breathing tongue

ok i will start,

MANCHESTER METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY - £12,500 economics and financial analysis.
That not gonna be easy, there are over 100 universities in UK and the course fees are not the same (Msc management fees will be different from probably Engineering in the same university) . Anyone whose interested in the school fees should check their website or contact the university admission team.

Guzye: Hello everyone, please I need your help. I'm about to gain an unconditional offer from a uni in the UK but the issue is that I didn't apply with my transcript due to the strike action by ASUU, the school asked for it and I told them I couldn't provide it due to the ASUU strike and they overlooked it. My question is, will the UKBA ask for my Uni transcrit during my application? even though I gained an offer without it? I have my original certificate though. Thanks
only if a transcript is stated on ur CAS that when u have no choice but submit it, if not original certificate would do for visa application.
