drnoel: Yea, i noticed that. Its a Nigerian thing and very popular on NL but mine was no abuse, I rather stated that if u had information u should share with the house but if u don´t have information on what u tried to say then u should close ur muth,..simple. I think u should learn to handle retorts that arise from effects of criticizing someone unjustly. If u can´t handle that, then u should learn not to criticize anyone. Besides, I am still waiting 4 the post u are supposed to paste on NL about the paragraph of the constitution that covers what the CBN governor can and can´t do with respect to the president. There was no reason for u to be angry, i simply said u should try get ur hands on the constitution during ur spare times and u replied with the bolded. Sure i can handle criticism if i couldn't would have probably called u an animal because dere no justification for ur retortion. Below is the information u seek: Section 11(2)(f) of the Act states: “A person shall not remain a Governor, Deputy Governor or Director of the Bank if he is removed by the President: Provided that the removal of the Governor shall be supported by two-thirds majority of the Senate praying that he be so removed.” |

solomon111: You are a morøn. Nigeria is the largest market for imported cars in africa. Most of the cars manufactured in SA are sent to Nigeria. Nigeria is a huge market that no car manufacturer would take for granted. What the FG is trying to do is to raise the tariffs as high as possible to make imported cars less economical to the locally manufactured ones. Amd they 've also gone ahead to grant both old and new-incoming car manufacturers 50% tax breaks for the next 5 years. And secondly, the reason why we currently have little car manufacturing is because drastic measures like this have not been taken. The manufacturing companies see no reason to move to Nigeria, when they can always import unhindered. And finally,if you think Nissan and toyota can't start manufacturing this year, then i can't help you. You will need to deal with your pessimism by yourself. Isn't that a bogus statement….. |

solomon111: The manufacturing companies have already made commitment to come. Nissan and toyota will begin manufacturing in Nigeria this year. But then i can assure you that if we abandon this policy due to pessimism or the temporary discomfort we may encounter in the course of this policy,we will be losing much in the long run. I won't be surprised if in the nearest future we start importing cars from kenya and morroco just like we are currently importing from southafrica. How do u know that?? don tell me u making comment based on what been on social media or nigeria newspapers, even if they do how many people can afford those cars?? |

kakakibuy: Can anyone confirm if this is what the New Policy really implies:
In the event that Govt goes ahead with the new tariffs, how will it affect you? Let's take a look at this scenario. If we assume that at current rates, you need 220,000 Naira to clear a Toyota Camry, whose cost is 986,000 Naira (Total final Cost)
When the 70% increase kicks in, our agent at the port explained that this means there will be a 70% increase in the 220k thus bringing clearing cost to 374,000 Naira and Total final cost to 1,140,000 Million Naira. An increase of 154,000 Naira!! Its a 50% increase not 70%, initially it was 20% (10% tariff and 10% duty) but now 70% (35% tariff and 35% duty) |
Car Talk › Re: New Policy On Importation Of Tokunbo Cars: Big News Page by mayo47(m): 4:07pm On Jan 09, 2014 |
We should all revolt against this policy, though this is a good policy its so coming at the wrong time. I expect once the tariff increase start, there should be several local options but none yet. Even if the toyotas, hondas come set up a factory to assemble they still can't sell new cars for $9,500 which about equivalent to the N1.2m- 1.5m govt said, it wouldn't still stop or reduce foreign exchange rate because they still need bring their equipment from their base. I doubt if innoson sell their vehicles between below 1.5m. The Ministers of trade and finance really missed it on this. |

mad nigerian: You know, reading some of the anti-Sanusi comments here makes me feel like I wasted my time supporting the return to democracy in 1999.
A man tells the President of a country that money is missing....and all some idiots here can see is that the man is doing it out of tribal spite.
Back in the day, when we were under the rule of the 'Hausas', we had the massive corruption of folks like Shagari and IBB...and when we complained then, we were told to shut up...that all our complaining was due to the fact that we were 'jealous Southerners'.
Now, 10 Billion dollars is missing from the National coffers, 10 BILLION DOLLARS!.
And all of us who are critical of the matter are called names. The CBN chap who cried out about the missing money is labelled an Islamist.
Well, it is a bloody shame that Christians in this country, since Jona took over, have lost their Christian values.
In this country, people go to bed hungry. People are sick and cannot afford healthcare. Our Education sector is in amess, corruption runs rampant, and kidnapping and Boko is the order of the day.
And all some people can do is excuse the stealing of 10 Billion dollars, because it is 'our man in charge'.
You know what, I am ashamed to be a Christian in Nigeria today. ASHAMED. Because we Christians, out of bitterness at being knocked out of power in this country for so long are excusing the mess made by this administration because 'they are Christians'
What even makes it worse is that now we must vote for corrupt Christian PDP ...despite the fact that in 14 years of leadership, they have done nothing right.
I am ashamed of all Nigerians...ashamed.
So, I am calling on all Nigerians......stop excusing corrupt people, STOP EXCUSING THEM. Every Nigerian, North or South should stop excusing corruption. The Church in Nigeria should stop worship of Mammon and political power and BE a church of piety FGS!
Nigerians, awake. Sanusi is complaing that your money is being stolen, and in your madness, you accuse him of being a liar.
Nigerians awake....this is not about destroying Jonathan's government or killing Igbos.....THIS IS ABOUT WHAT IS YOUR OWN! You see people claim they are christian and bear false witness (One of the 10 commandment) just because they read a story in sum blog, website or newspaper. They base all their comment on what they read, not having a rethought whether its true or not. |

Politics › Did FG Pay $23m To Manitoba Hydro Just For Consulting Service??? by mayo47(op): 3:06pm On Jan 08, 2014 |
Its Sad that the FG don't believe in NIgerians ability and prefer awarding contracts to foreigners who are in no way prepared to invest in this country, thereby transferring income to them. Below is what i found Source: http://www.winnipegsun.com/2013/05/11/nigeria-deal-a-boost-for-manitoba-hydro-internationalWhile Manitoba Hydro pushes to expand its infrastructure in the province amid a cacophony of debate, its subsidiary is quietly extending its reach into the southern hemisphere. Manitoba Hydro International, which advises clients worldwide, recently inked a contract to manage the Transmission Company of Nigeria, that country’s state-owned power utility. The utility for Africa’s most populous nation has been in disarray and the $23-million deal gives MHI the go-ahead to oversee the company, restructure it and prepare it for eventual privatization. Hydro spokesman Glenn Schneider said deals like this are a revenue-generator for MHI and a chance to put a foot down in a potentially lucrative African market. “We never go over there and invest in actual networks, it’s really just a consulting service,” he said. “There’s very little risk in these things ... It’s really taking advantage of the expertise that we have in house to make a little extra money on the international market.” Schneider said the revenues are minor, but beneficial. “It’s a small contribution to the positive revenues that we get. That money flows to Manitoba Hydro itself, which helps in a small way to keep everybody’s rates down.” |

bunburized: I have Zenith and stanbic naira mastercards. I also have accessbank and diamondbank visa cards. Can't I use these in the UK? I asked cause I really won't like converting all the money and just keeping them in the bank or in my room in the UK. I have a running business here in Nigeria which my bro is helping me to run. I will like to make some of the funds available for this purpose and only use them when absolutely necessary. I have internet banking and can move my funds between accounts anytime I wish. If I can access my funds using my cards I won't mind doing that even if there are charges involved. Ultimately, it will even be cheaper than visiting the black market for pounds as the current exchange rate is alarming. If there are limitations to my above reasoning please kindly point it out. I paid my tuition using my mastercard at a rate N9 less than the black market value then. Converting the whole cash will make it virtually impossible to fund my business back home which is one guaranteed means of my financial independence when I leave the UK after my studies. My aim is not to come to UK and pause my business but to "kill 2 birds with one stone". The funds in my account can generate an income of 100k monthly if properly invested and this my friend is one extra cash I won't let pass. Well if u okay running ur transactions here with naija cards & don't mind charges. I guess u in the best position to know what suits u. |

bunburized: Thank you so much. How safe is it carrying that huge amount running around town? Does that mean I should just convert all my maintenance money to pounds? As someone who is currently residing in salford can I get accommodation I can pay monthly/quarterly or it must be a contract for 40/52 weeks? If I can get quarterly arrangement then I suppose £3000 will be more than enough for the first 6months with feeding inclusive. My budget for accommodation is £80 per week max. Also I have finally settled for virgin atlantic and will be coming with 3 pieces of baggage weighing 23kg each. The flight will arrive Manchester sometime around 9pm. My worry is how in the world will I manage those luggage on my own. My friend who I will be staying with for the period pending my securing an accommodation said she can't make it to the airport that late. She said I can get a taxi that will take me straight from the airport to her house in Salford and should cost around £25. I was hoping I could make use of the arrow free service suggested by the school for new entrants but since I will be coming before 20th January, I don't know if it is still a valid option. Any suggestions for me? Your candid advise will be very much appreciated. Not to worry u safe around with your cash, U may but i guess its better u convert all to £, Accommodation payment are mostly paid every month but u could pay quarterly all depends on the letting agency/landlord. Sure £3000 is very much ok, best bet is to get a taxi from manchester airport to ur friend place. |

bunburized: I am in the final stage of preparation to start my masters program. I want to know if there is need for concern at the point of entry. For those who have passed through this stage what documents do I need to pack in my hand luggage for easy access? I also want to know if there are questions they may ask me at the point of entry and also if I still need to make a print of my statement of account to take along as proof that my maintenance fund is intact. Finally, how much will be reasonable to carry along in cash when leaving? I am yet to rent an apartment and hope to do that when I arrive school. I was thinking of traveling with £3,000 or more so I can cover my rent asap and not contending with the minimum daily withdrawal using my naija mastercard which may ultimately take 4-5days to access such amount hence making my accommodation hunt a challenge. Your admission & CAS letter, no you don't need your account statement. Yeah u can take as much as £7,000, all must be declared. U might just be asked what course u studying, nothing serious tho. |
