The APC can go ahead with their primaries but the elders of the state have met and agreed that Ambode should be the next governor of Lagos.” The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, said Akinwumi Ambode, an All Progressives Congress, APC, member eyeing the Lagos oval house, is a suitable successor to Governor Babatunde Fashola. Mr. Akiolu spoke on Thursday at the launch of a book on the Biography of Mr. Ambode, “The Art of Selfless Service,’’ written by Maria Osoba. The book tells the story of Mr. Ambode and the need to leave a legacy that people can learn from. At the event, Mr. Akiolu urged other governorship aspirants of the APC in the state to give Mr. Ambode a chance. “When the APC leader, Bola Tinubu, chose Gov. Babatunde Fashola in 2007 to succeed him, it was met with stiff opposition but today Tinubu has been justified. “We see a similar character like Governor Fashola in Ambode,’’ the Oba said. Mr. Akiolu said that all other aspirants of the party were great but God and the elders had chosen Mr. Ambode. “The APC can go ahead with their primaries but the elders of the state have met and agreed that Ambode should be the next governor of Lagos,’’ Mr. Akiolu said. In his speech, Mr. Ambode said that he was guided in life by the lessons he learnt from his father to be selfless. “Today, I have a Lagos dream that we can share together,’’ he said. Mr. Ambode, who worked in the Lagos State Public Service for 27 years, said he was properly mentored by Tinubu and Fashola. He was Permanent Secretary, State Treasury Office, Ministry of Finance when he retired in August 2012. According to the book, Mr. Ambode was born at Epe General Hospital, Epe in Lagos State on June 14, 1963 as the sixth child in a family of 10 children. The book chronicles the challenging times that he went through and which shaped his life. Many traditional rulers in the state and some chieftains of the APC were present at the launch. Meanwhile, the Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, described Mr. Akiolu’s endorsement of Mr. Ambode as undemocratic. The Lagos State Chairman of the PDP, Tunji Shelle, said on phone that it was unfair on other political parties for the Oba to endorse an aspirant of a particular party. “As a traditional ruler, we had expected the Oba to give his blessings to all aspirants and parties and allow the peoples’ choice to emerge as governor of the state,” Mr. Shelle said. |
...and as such he has served the Igbo turn for Presidency. |
Written by aakinfe Tuesday, 28 January 2014 10:05 OHANAEZE Ndigbo has begun putting pressure on its members with presidential ambitions to stand down for President Goodluck Jonathan in a move designed to ensure that he secures all of the votes in the southeast at next year's elections. Seen as ambitious attempt to deliver the Igbo vote en-mass for President Jonathan, this latest move by Ohanaeze involves putting pressure on the likes of former Abia State governor Orji Kalu to abandon their presidential ambitions. President Jonathan's grandfather originally came from Arochukwu in Imo State and as such, he has been adopted as an Igbo son. Gary Nnachi Enwo-Igariwey, the president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, said that the plan was in the interest of peace and unity, noting that a president of Igbo origin would emerge at the appropriate time. Yesterday, he visited Dr Kalu, to urge him to drop his presidential ambitions, adding that the move was strategic and it would enable the Igbo to speak with one voice on the 2015 presidential elections. Chief Enwo-Igariwey said: “I was here about six months ago to actually discuss with him on issues concerning the Igbo nation. It was about rumours on presidential interest and I told him I will like to discuss that with him formally when he eventually decides on what to do. "I have come here to rub minds with him and to tell him to join me in the discussions about Igbo unity so that we will speak with one voice. We no longer want a situation where we speak from different points and our agenda should be the same and I have appealed to him to shelve it in the interest of the Igbo nation." He added that he has appealed to Dr Kalu to shelve his ambitions and the former governor has offered assurances that he will listen to Ohanaeze’s appeal. Asked if the decision would not jeopardise the rights of the average Igbo person Chief Enwo-Igariwey said other individuals should exercise their rights but the body has a target group. Dr Kalu added: “Mr president, Chief Enwo-Igariwey was here and he advised that he would like the Igbo to speak with one voice. They said a tree cannot make a forest, bit if the apex organisation in Igboland wants to say, well, we don’t want any of our sons to contest for election this time, we will hold on and work with them to see what they will do. "I will never be a scapegoat that will sacrifice my tribe as whatever my tribe says is superior to what I will think. I believe they have their reasons and their reasons may be more superior to what I think." On the threat by some northern elders to drag former chief of army staff Lt General Azubuike Ihejirika, before the World Court, Chief Enwo-Igariwey said Ohanaeze Ndigbo condemned the statement, demanding its withdrawal. He added that it is a known fact that there are bound to be some unfortunate casualties in the fight against terror by the authorities. - See more at: http://www.nigerianwatch.com/politics/3753-ohanaeze-ndigbo-asks-all-igbo-presidential-hopefuls-to-stand-down-for-goodluck#sthash.a8q2LDsY.dpuf |
barristerMDGs:Thats true. If you rename it Middle Belt you will fall into the same trap and dillema the SS is suffering from now. |
I tell my fellow Yorubas....if you want to change your cities and restore grace in your environment and life, vote APC in 2015. Do you know why? I have read APC manifesto and it answers a lot of the questions Yoruba has been agitating for on the Federal System of Governance. Yoruba responds to his/her sorrounding with gracefullness....we are known for exchanging greetings and pleasantries, we are temperate and responsive, we think first and act later. Unlike these freaks who were born and raised to respond brutely to sorroundings and people, they act first and think later. Omo Oodua, do you want regionalism? Vote APC and take back your destiny and cities! PDP has no manifesto...and their political agenda is to continue with the Federal system as usual. |
The difference between Lagos of 1974 and 2014 is the migration pattern. Yoruba has not left where they were, the same Yoruba that kept a neat, tidy and beautiful city in the 70s is still there......but they have been joined by migrants who brought with them filth and eyesore from village. |
barristerMDGs:Its a good thought but Middle Belt zone will not be appropriate rename for the states currently in North Central. |
Obanikoro has lost his mind! What ministerial post is there to give him? Is Jonathan going to resign someone to put Koro in? Lets see how much the PDP loves him..... How about kick Allison-Maduke out and give NNPC to Obanikoro to show love? |
MESSAGE TO LAGOS PDP... OBANIKORO HAS BEEN BLACKLISTED BY OBA AKIOULU. NO AMOUNT OF RIGMAROLE WILL BRING OBANIKORO, EITHER THROUGH A FRONT DOOR OR A BACK DOOR, TO HAVE VOICE IN THE POLITICAL AFFAIRS OF LAGOS. HE IS DONE! IF HE WANTS A ROLE IN POLITICAL LAGOS HE MUST FORST GO AND SEEK FORGIVENES IN IGA. END OF MESSAGE! |
Kenai:Democratic system of governance is popular in a plural society because its modalities is enshrined in the contract of CHECKS & BALANCES. Listen to what berem stated clearly about Buhari's regime in uniform....very apt and conclusive. Buhari in military uniform, a system without checks and balances, installed decrees and rules that were enforced generically unopposed....yet, his ambition and direction to install Sharia were thwarted. How is he then going to Sharianize Nigeria in a system where checks and balances is the order of the day? Also, no one is pointing to Ekwueme's role in the Shagari government when the President applied for Nigeria to be a full fledge member of the Organization of Islamic Countries - OIC. What was Ekwueme, the VP thinking of .....why was he not against that move? Buhari was the one that stepped in and withdrew that application....offending the Saudis who then bank rolled his overthrow. |
@OP, I have watched and followed some of your fact-checking threads lately. This revelation tops them all. I dont know whether to classify you as a fact-finder or as a mythbuster....nonetheless, you have BUSTED a myth which portrays PDP as a religion-tolerant party. By the power conferred on those who seek truth and revelation, you are hereby knighted as the first female Mythbuster in Nairaland. GREAT JOB!!
|
@OP, You want SW to vote for Jonathan, really What change would Yoruba vote bring to his campaign? I dont think SW votes will give him victory at all even if he gets, conservatively, a 75% Yoruba vote.....but I could be wrong! |
NgeneUkwenu:lol. You did not get it. Reno is preparing the population towards a formal launch of his own church and evangelic service. Oritsejafor has ordained him. Lmao. The reality of 2015 is emerging and everyone in Aso is thinking forward and marketing for a job after Aso. First FFK, now Reno.... |
Energito:they did not give it to Yoruba. Yoruba earned it! Do you know how party primaries work and what delegates are empowered to do? |
hurricaneChris:Has PDP given explanation why they removed Ekwueme as presidential candidate and crowned Obasanjo in his place? |
This is funny! Lol. Counting how many Ibos are left in villages waiting opportunity to migrate to Yorubaland, Ijawland and Hausaland. Now, look at those three ethnic lands i just mentioned and you will instantly recognize that these are the current power brokers in Nigeria. Right? Ibo did not loose its political grip because it was marginalized...rather because it abandoned its political base! New power brokers are waiting in the wing to vie for power control at the top....the Igalas, Kanuris, Tivis, Efiks.... Ibo displaced itself from majority and power brokerage. I dont know what they should do to get it back but I know for sure we welcome the few headcount left in village to cross over to Yorubaland. Their constitutional right is always protected on our land. They can make their money here and even buy land and build mansions. |
VirginFinder:Mayor has endorsed this message, and adds...... if APGA Ibo candidate fails to win Lagos gubernatorial then we know finally and uncontroversially that Ibo is a nobody in Lagos and the belief they control the economy or have majority population or are taking over is all a hogwash and a myth. Over to Nwafors .... |
As Nigerians prepare for 2015 general elections, the Igbo apex ruling body, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, said yesterday that the All Progressives Congress, (APC) has no Igbo agenda, vowing 90 percent of Igbo would vote for President Goodluck Jonathan.Honestly, we would prefer Igbo vote 100% for Jonathan. The only thing we want from Igbo is your donation....you can cast your vote for Jona, we are comfortable with that. |
Thanks to my migrating inlaws for this generosity. |
@topic, Yes, Buharid did say that....but have you seen what ACN said about CPC? bunch of freaks!! . Catching cold over Buhari. |
nduchucks:very true! |
Abagworo:Ijaw has never won any fight outside the creeks. Which means the creek is a safehaven for them. To beat them in the creeks the simple strategy is to turn the creek from being safehaven to becoming a threat to them. Thats not a difficult thing to do. Ibo fear Ijaw and they think rest of Nigeria is coward like them. |
erunz:lol... ![]() we have been over this and revisted it several times. Im tired of bringing the accounts of how OPC slaughtered Ijaws in Ajegunle. Unable to find a river nearby to dive into and retreat they ran straight into an ambush they thought was an escape route. The few that the bullets missed made into Navy barrack for cover. bloody cowards!! Its a written record and you will find ityou search nairaland archive. Refresh yourself with the truth and stop peddling lies. Remember when MEND came and blew Federal Jetty in Lagos? What did Fashola tell them never to do again? If they are brave like they claim why haven they return to blow something else in Lagos and watch Fashola unleash OPC on their @$$. |
MudRaker:Of course you are not......this climate is not a good one to be Ibo! |
MudRaker:When you narrate events of national history, dont mix your village buwlshyyte into it. 1. MKO had opportunity to stay in London and away from Nigeria after the annulment but he returned home for his mandate knowing fully well he would be put in house arrest or imprisoned. Only three other national leaders ever damned the consequence of arrest on principles of legitimacy. a) Awolowo was offered to leave the country or go to prison, he choosed prison. b) Buhari and Idiagbon were told not to return after IBB overthrew their regime, they told him to go to hell and came back to their country and went straight to jail. 2. MKO was given a negotiated deal and an offer for him to withdraw his lawsuits and accept the annulment in exchange for freedom...he turned it down and told them over his dead body. 3. Yoruba declared war on Nigeria after MKO mandate was stolen. For killing him, we retaliated and planted mole on Abacha and got an eye for eye. 4. They killed Umar Yar Adua in prison. They wanted to kill Obasanjo but we warned if Obj died his death will also be avenged. So they kept him safe. 5. In response to our rebellion against the Republic they put Olu Falae of NADECO in as Presidential candidate for AD and Umaru Shinkafi as his VP. 6. Ekwueme was PDP presidential candidate that same year. They feared if Obasanjo died, by design or by fate...Yorubas' resolve to separate from the country will come through. The writing was on the wall! 7. So they kicked Ekwueme out and put Obj as PDP candidate. Atiku Abubakar was his VP. This is how Yoruba ended with two sons, both Christians, in the presidential run, each with a Northerner as VP. 8. You think Ibos will rise up and demand correction but no....the cowards took to the streets waving Biafran flags. Police and soldiers were sent to hunt and kill them at sight. 9. Obasanjo won the election. 10. Few days ago I opened a thread showing in 2003 Ohaneze instructed Ibo aspirants to step down their ambition so Obj can return unopposed for 2nd term. This was same man brought in to displace their own son Ekwueme. 11. We are in 2014, with all your backing for Jonathan and Ohaneze repeating for him their call in 2003 for Obj, has he given you your most cherished project, the 2nd niger bridge....how about your pseudo seaport has the riverbed been dredged yet.....even far more valuable, are you in the VP spot and ready to succeed him? let me stop the chronology of your enslavement here and save the rest for when I need it in 2015 to truly embrass and humiliate your Ohaneze in front of everyone here in Nairaland. Bloody slaves....do you know any Ibo who stood up for his rights at the cost of personal liberty like did Awolowo, Buhari, Idiagbon, Mko? None....Zik escaped and hid outside when the country was burning under his administration. It took Fajuyi standing up and facing bullets than allow his guest Ironsi to be kidnapped and executed. With all his noise and loudness, when it came time to prove his boastful rhetorics did Ojukwu risk his liberty? Bloody race of cowards...slaves till Nigeria disintegrates.!! ![]() Sounds more like Ekwueme was scr.ewed by the North! Its 2014 and we have been back in civilian and democratic government now for over 10yrs....we have produced Yoruba President and nominated Yoruba VP. We have even seen a Ijaw VP and Ijaw President....no where is Ibo in the picture.....sounds more like you Ibos are scre.wed!! |
Babacele:Even Jonathan got drunk on ogogoro one night and in front of national media declared that only the Igbos have been the pillars of his administration. Add his lack of tact and discretion on that statement to the repeated call by Ohaneze for all Igbos anywhere in Nigeria to vote Jonathan. I hope not, but if it ends in a baboon and dog fight in 2015 Igbo will end up a scapegoat in the battle. There probably is....but Ive never met an Ijawman that built mansion and invested his life in Hausaland the way Ibos are everywhere in North and with their boast of mansions and economic control. Ndigbo has two choices 1. Vote Jonathan and damn the consequencies 2 Self preservation and let Jonathan return home a one-term President. |
