I can not fault Obama for any reason, he handled this matter as honest as he can. To denounce him weeks ago for political expedience would have been too calculative for a man who claims to be guided mostly by conviction for what he thinks is right. But for Jerimiah Wright to somehow allow himself to surface again and worst of all suggest that Obama's rejection of his views is simply political is too much to swallow. That is public show of disrespect on National TV, and this is very much the right time to put him in his place. I think Obama did, I would not have handled the situation differently. I dont think the Black community will feel betrayed by his action. Obama gave Wright a second chance he blew it. As for Clinton, if she wins the nomination by exploiting racial divide as she has been doing. She can as well kiss her dream of being President goodbye. The press confrence by Jim Clyburn which suggest that Hillary is knee capping Obama is a clear warning. She will not get the black vote, as black leaders will not allow her to swiftboat a black politician for being black and somehow hope that in general election she will come back and seek the the black vote. |
Please permit me to digress a bit This question is best suited for the NFA Their only solution to our soccer crisis is hiring a foreign coach, so now that it has become evident that the problem transcends the coach. I think we may consider borrowing their own playbook and hire a foreign NFA chairman. As per foreign President?, it has not come to that yet. |
I think this scheme could well be used to decongest lagos roads Each car should be tied to a drivers licence and any car not in the databased should be taken off the road |
debosky:I admire ur optimism, but do you really believe its ok to produce just a report in 12 months ![]() its amazing how u think it will take 6 months to implement a report that took 12 months to produce. |
The point is, in this day and age the Pope is simply symbolic when it comes to world affairs. He only has an opinnion. But he means a lot rather to Catholics. Who he meets and who he does not meet simply does not do a lot. A previous Pope praying in the Mosque has not changed a lot, M'uslim clerics should rather be preaching against killing in the name of God. That is the only solution to unity. That is the only way the current 10yr olds from Pakistan, and Aphganistan and Palestine will grow up with different ideology and hence ensure a future peaceful world. |
First, I do not know much about the purpose or the importance of having a Pope I thought accepting the invitation would have been the greatest opportunity to sincerely, publicly and physically endorse peace and unity for all mankindIt was not I who made the above comments, maybe u need to listen to yourself. You cant have it both ways, you can either think he is insignificant or not. To not know much about his purpose and yet know the effect or benefit of his actions and in-actions is inconsistent |
BigB1 The last Pope, Karol Józef Wojtyła (Pope John Paul II) visited and prayed in an ISLA_MIC Mosque in Damascus Syria 2001. I will leave the answer whether Terrorism has grown or reduced since then to you. The solution to religous fanatism, terrorism or killing in the name of God can not be reached as a result of pilicies made in Washington, Vatican, or No. 10 Downing Street. Its about time MU_SLIMS take responsibilities and begin to preach against terrorism in Mosques. And to suggest that there is a correlation between the Pope's schedule and World peace is simply disingenuous. And by the way you can not suggest that there is no need having a Pope at all and yet somehow put the resolution of a troubled world at his door steps , you simply can't have it both ways mate. And by the way, the Pope is the head of the Catholic Church and Head of State of Vatican city. The next time any TV station try to bore you with where he goes or who he tries to see. Just switch of the Channel but there is simply no need to discuss him. He is not spending your tax money. |
Its so shameful that Mugabe can not respect himself and quit power, maybe if the Kenyan situation plays out they will start talking about govt of unity. But now that there is no open war yet, African leaders will simply prefer to do nothing. Mugabe policies are simply not working he should quit |
Kobojunkie:That is the fundamental question this President will never be able to answer |
The question is whether Yar'adua has handed over to anyone ![]() ![]() I don't know whether Presidents always hand over to their vice each time they go abroad ?People should stop all this unnecessary whitsle blowing and mistrust that has destroyed the unity of Nigeria. It is Natural that a President's confidants are his Chief of Staff and National Security Adviser whether they are from mu_slim North or Christain South. |
Some of us just come to Nairaland and type like kids Obama in his speech on race said "what is wrong about Rev Wrights comments is not that he spoke about race but that he spoke of it as if America was not changing" There is no guarantee that if Obama grew up in Rev Wrights generation he will not be as bitter as Rev Wright. And Obama understands this, so talking about Obama joining a black church or not leaving the Church is simply childish. Especially when the decision to join this church was made when he was a boy in his twenties and possibly we don't even know what informed his decision to move from Hawaii to Chicago. This was a boy who had no father, and possibly rev wright might be the Father he knows. So to suggest that he should simply dissociate himself from wright because Wright spoke of his experience which was largely true is simply ridiculous. We have every right to fantasize of the GOPs as our Grand Old Parents in which whatever they say we swallow, but celebrating covert racism against a black Candidate simply raises the queston whether we know who we are? Why should Obama be held responsible for the political views of his Pastor ![]() This is simply a weak attempt to question his patriotism because he is not a conventional candidate. Its also an attempt to exploit racism to win an election. |
RichyBlacK:Exactly!! |
Americans are so gullible I don't know why Mr. Wright venting his anger on the pulpit is an issue ![]() ?Why is Obama not qualified to be President because of what Mr. Wright said when the Bin Ladens who bombed America are business associates to the current sitting President and his Family ??This is pure distraction and its so shameful the public is buying it after we have seen claims ranging from Obama attending a Madarasa, to Obama wearing a traditional Kenyan attire. |
somalian:LOL they borrow money from the Chinese to buy oil from the Saudi's Meanwhile at the same time funding a war without end in the middle east, its not so difficult to figure out why there is recession. |
Nuzo Look, nobody likes what is going on in Darfur. But to think that by merely boycotting Olympics in China some how the animosity and hate that exists between Arabs and Black Africans in Sudan will evaporate is simply naive. Those who champion this operation drag China down are not ignorant of this fact either. They simply have other objectives. Look what is going on in Sudan is regrettable, but confusion, divisiveness and resentments exist in all parts of the world. But it is very severe in Africa because of poverty. This club of rich nations demonizing China for Human Rights, for many years refused to take any concrete steps that will benefit Africa. They like the resources in Africa, sit in committee of rich Nations and plot how to purchase the resources in Africa on the cheap. But when you ask them to invest they tell you your leaders are dictators That has been the Foreign Relations stalemate we have been in for decades. When China started making in-roads in Africa, for all its imperfections it gave Africa an opportunity to bargain or choose who we want to do business with. This campaign to drag China down started by economist and TV pundits calling China's in-roads to Africa the second scramble for Africa, when that did not work they started talking of Darfur and Tibet using the media. A lot of the crisis in Africa is fueled by poverty and thus the more strategic solution to peace in Africa region is tackling the economy. So listening to the West that have failed us time and time again is simply not the best. Remember Rwanda? And by the way China has achieved a lot behind the scene in Sudan through diplomacy and they can only improve. Chinese resentment in Africa is not in the interest of Africans. |
in the interest of the guy writing a book http://archive.amnesty.org/library/Index/ENGPOL340062006?open&of=ENG-390 That is Amnesty International's view on Global Arms trade For example, armoured vehicles originally manufactured by Land Systems (OMC), a South African subsidiary of BAE Systems, have been exported to Uganda and Indonesia despite concerns that armoured vehicles have been used to commit or facilitate human rights violations in both countries. |
4 play I think you need to grow up Can you ever make a point without being abusive |
If that is the case nobody should have gone for any world sporting event this is pure politics China should be punished for not bringing peace to Sudan when the west who are trying to punish them have distabilized a whole region |
Dont get emotional, this is pure politics, those on top don't like others taking their place China's role in Sudan, regrettable as it is, you can only be realistic what China can do. They can only put diplomatic pressure on Sudan otherwise they will have to back off. The bit in bold is rather the real objective of those demonizing China. Before there was China, there was BAE systems notorious for supplying arms to rebels in Africa. Nobody called Britain to it, UK and US have simply disorganized the Middle East and they have been at every world sporting event they qualified for till date. Think of Guantanamo Bay ![]() So why should there be one rule for China and another for the West ? This is pure politics.Olympics should be devoid of politics, there are other platforms to call China for its human rights records like UN. It must not be through boycotting Olympics. |
OBAMA NIGERIA INITIATIVES STOREI hope this not a ploy to sell car stickers at a dubious prize ![]() ??I dont know how this will enhance Obama Candidacy |
DONATIONEFCC should investigate to ensure this is even Reps doing it. Guys contact the EFCC and ICPC quickly |
I am not too sure what to believe Its actually on the punch http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art200803211163428 Nairalanders should further investigate this and make sure either Nigerians or the Obama Campaign don't get duped over this. The curious thing is why they are so quick to include a link on how members of the public can donate but yet also claim they have not reached out to the Obama campaign on the grounds that they are merely celebrating the success of an African Son. The question is why the funds ![]() ? They are not even trying to build a youth coalition in Nigeria to replicate what Obama has done, so why the funds ? and why does an organisation formed by close to 32 Nigerian lawmakers need funds of ordinary people ?So many unanswered questions I hope this is genuine. http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art200803211163428 |
Not just English The guy need to grow up and get educated |
chidicris some threads are better of not dignified with a post |
"If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won't act, we will"As long as you are honest enough to post Obama's real quotes am satisfied. I believe Nairalanders understand english and can make for themselves what he said. What YOU make of it is entirely up to YOU. http://youtube.com/watch?v=zYBaiXQoI5Q |
Crownvilla:Came to celebrate Easter with you guys How about that for Love ![]() ![]() ![]() ?? |
yommys01:I honestly dont know a lot about Nigerias local league at the moment. But am simply hoping that someday those that matter will exploit our love for the game of football into creating a new industry where Nigerian youths will thrive. And new local celebrities will be made just like we have the D-Banjs of the entertainment industry. I am currently a fan of Man Utd, but I say that knowing that it is unfortunate that I am not rather a fan of Enyimba or Sharks of Port Harcourt. (if that is what they are still called) |
People need to study what goes on in the corridor of power in Nigeria before they criticize people. Soludo has not declared interest in the Presidency and hence their is no point discussing his viability. However if you want to criticize his position as CBN Governor, show any CBN Governor before him that has achieved a lot. The current Finance Minister came to power and his primary aim was to undermine Soludo, he and the National Planning Minister succeeded in doing that. You would think that after succeeding they will come up with new ideas but nothing fruitful has come out from the Finance Ministry so far. People say he is not radical, I don't know if the transformation of our Banking Sector is not radical enough. Recently he is being criticized for releasing Loans for Small Business starters and skills training. http://elendureports.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=624&Itemid=1 But the problem is his critics are not coming up with any reasonable alternative solutions to Nigeria's probelms. All they do is try to criticize those who started up something. WE ARE SIMPLY A MISGUIDED COUNTRY On issue of Alistair Campbell, he was simply Tony Blair's spin doctor and did not at anytime manage Britains Finance (Chancellor). If anything Soludo should be compaired to Gordon Brown who ran the economy and is now Prime Minister. |
4Play I wonder where Obama's assertion that he would be prepared to militarily intervene in Pakistan fits into this your narrative. You have every right to be as conservative and right-wing as you like, but you also owe yourself the responsibility as an educated person to listen to other news and views and not only the like promoted by FOX News. Obama did not say he will "Militarily intervene in Pakistan" (whatever that means) He said if he has actionable inteligence on Osama Bin Laden's location in Pakistan and Musharaf is not willing to act he will order the Army to strike at Bin Laden's location. It is also worthy of note that roughly about a month ago the Goerge Bush's administration borrowed the same ideology to take out Al-Qaeda number 3 in Pakistan. |
aisha2:I hope that someday what gets you going will be victory of world class Plateau United !!!!!!!!! |
father ab:I believe you mean performers like Shamsudeen Usman the current Finance Minister. |
Kudos to the Judges. Meanwhile this unending call for the sack of Maurice Iwu without addressing the fundamental issues is simply very naive. Look at the last PDP convention, someone was simply enthroned in a Mafia-like fashion without a single vote cast. Iwu did not administer that convention. So there is no point looking for a scape goat unnecessarily, lets get to the root of the matter otherwise we will be decieving ourselves. |
