If e too pain una for jeje enter university... Using engineering as a case study, which lecturer would u remember from a polytechnic that has made wave, but u will surely remember prof. Mowete of unilag and prof. Ibahdodhe of uniben who won the NLNG prize for science.. In economics and other fields professors and senior lecturers from nigerian universities have impacted more, because sey dem dan join PCE with UME now una wan they follow us talk now.. I think the recruitment method is fair enough
B.ENG,B.SC = MANAGERIAL POSITIONS
HND = ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS
lets leave it that way, if e too pain u.. Send ur child to a uni

I have been informed in the past and the information was dentrimental to my success. It was a wrong info. Just finished a test, though I bounced into the hall with the belief that I know all that would be set, I crawled out heartbroken, because the questions differed frm wat I expected and was informed. INFORMATION can MAKE you or BReak you. It has broken me twice, won't let it happen again.
You only Needed the right info and someone would see you as that geek.
I stand corrected, who organized d test u wrote?

Nigerian movie: it was actually the second stage test for a company in ph called Solar turbines. The first stage was lot easier and basically mechanical reasoning. But this second one? I doubt to make it.
it was essay questions. Where you are to explain with the aid of diagram operations of 2 & 4 stroke engine
the operations of reciprocating compressor
the operations of a gas turbine. Amidst other conc questions. As I didn't know the nature of the test, I prepared for GMAT and SHL.
but people know book oh. As I de scramble, I see some guys de mean de pen....afraid catch me.

I am hoping for a miracle to be invited for next stage.
nah, no be by know book... INFORMATION!!! He was well informed on how the next stjge would be and u werent hence the motive of this thread..information is the key

amilak: Yes theres no place related to experience on the vacancy, buh i tell you they are myraids of experienced guys also competing for the job, this make them sound smart and more practical than a sophomore. It gives them an edge. And since most of the questions ask will be practical, the experienced pps may have more convincing stories yhan a fresh school leaver.
Except one is so smart as to be able to convince them that though u hvnt had previos wrk experience you can gv them a run for their money.
now u have rephrased ur statement

amilak: You cnt be a so active memeber on nairaland, posting comments , replies and still have a job. Unfortunately nlng or any coy for that matter prefers a candidtae qith years of relevnt wprking experience. This reason may be why kuwena and other active memebers on nairaland then didnt get the nlng job, not because they where active nairalanders but mayb because they dint have relevant working experience compared to their other working class nairaland counterpart who where inactive members of the forum and will only refresh the page only in the morning before work or during break.
Moral lesson? Lets all find one or two things relevant to this job pursuit doing. So when the interviewer asks you 'what can you bring to the table' it wont be just a cup of coffee that comes to mind grin
when you say some thing like this u should end it with "just saying", thats ur opinion.. In the vacjncy was there any part of it related to experience? They should have changed the name from GT if thats d basis for being chosen

1) They chk if your head is well positioned on your neck
2) They chk your height to see that you'r nt above 6ft
3) They confirm your age using a newly developed technology to ascertain its nt football age that u are using.
4) They chk your eyes to cnfirm they can see very long distance, like from the earth to jupiter.
5) Lastly n most importantly, they chk ur genitals to see if they reproduce perfectly.

Well said Oz... The fact remains that entry level job is entry level job.. Why invite some one who is working else where just because he is below the maximum allowable age... Or am i oblivious of the true meaning of GT?
Jobs/VacanciesRe: 2013 Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) Graduate Trainee by mcpat(m): 11:35am On Jul 01, 2014
Wizard_of_Oz: Interesting that Kuwena's experience is now a cautionary tale. But truthfully, he really did put himself out there. Did he shoot himself in the foot by doing that, I dnt really know. Only God knows why, but he does seem like a determined guy and despite his breakdown when he didn't get invited for medicals, I believe he must have gotten back up and at it again.
Interesting too is what mcpat noticed - the most vocal or rather the most frequent ones on the thread weren't called, the laid back, once-in-a-while posters were the successful ones in the end. Also, virtually all the successful candidates had jobs already. And I remember one coming on this thread before the cyber attack to encourage us to have something doing before the Assessment Centre comes.
Now I might be wrong but isn't the graduate trainee position a kind of entry level position? If yes, then how is it a bad thing to not have a full time job especially for those who just are still searching but have shown real aptitude to make it to the Assessment Centre.
I thought about it not because of me but it just dawned on me that most grads I've seen don't really have enough "professional" experiences to buttress whatever positive adjectives they use to describe themselves in the interview and so when they say something in the line of "one of my strengths is that I'm a good team player" and when the inevitable follow up question in the line of "please could you give us an example of when your input affected your team's performance"
Suddenly the candidate gets stumped and cnt really follow up his initial claim.
P.S: I say professional in the sense that the candidate has been in a situation where accomplishing tasks lead to some sort of reward be it monetary (as in a full time job) or experiential as in volunteer work or a part time job or even as an independent contractor (freelance).
In as much as i agree with you that the GT should be opened to people with no working experience.. I do not agree that you need working experience to answer behavioural interview questions... I wrote the P&G undergraduate Internship exams where i made it to the interview stage.. Behavioural questions were asked... " tell me a time a member of your group wasnt willing to work, what did u do about it?" i had no working experience whatsoever but i related every question to every group have found myself in from senior high notably my workshop group from sophomore to penultimate year and also my high school basketball team... I found out 1 thing from all the IT exams i wrote.. The one thing recruiters are looking for is team work.. Individual brilliance might have gotten keumen to the AC but he might not have been a good team player

majekdom2: Hehehe , no be the competences NLNG dey find be this oo .. Oh yea , there is the God factor but one can't tell how well he performed.
I read an article sometime ago on linkedin on why some smart peeps don't get hired. One reason is they are overconfident, another is sometimes they feel their opinion should count most .. Oh yea , kuwena is quite a bright candidate but that doesn't make him an ideal candidate. Remember the AC isn't just about the numerical test but measures other key competences such as team work , communication , negotiation and influencing , leadership inclusive.
For peeps , that would make it to the AC , you might read up questions that might be asked during the group , intray and probably interviews and then you would be so confident you got the answers , sadly the assessor might counter your opinion on whatever issue which could adversely affect one's performance. This happened to me sometime ago . Be prepared and not over prepared, be confident and not over confident. Don't make it a must do thing . yea , one might think I must get this job because I made it to this stage. Just be calm , be yourself and let fate take its cause.
so what metaphysical term describes passing AC and not making the final 70...

Mastersplinter: Hehehe. Who gives the atheists in America jobs in top notch companies? Most of these companies are not even owned by believers. The owner of P&G has on several occassions declared his love for the devil. Besides, most times people like kuwena who have their way with words tend to become individualistic during group discussions. We also can't say for sure the kinda responses he gave during his interview or the kinda contributions he made during the group thingy. Also, the weird but true observation that none of the active members on the thread made it is mind buggling. Maybe I. need to fade to black a little bit undecided
well remember life is not a critical reasoning class where u confirm assumption(s) from a given passage ("07 thread).. There is no known phenomena that explained why the active ones didnt make it... I am sure they were among the 270 who crossed and am very sure they are doing very well ATM
Jobs/VacanciesRe: 2013 Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) Graduate Trainee by mcpat(m):
SQL-master:
@mcpat, what do you make of kuwena and why do you think he didn't get the job?
kuwena was probably over confident and ill prepared...there is no enough evidence to show that he did/didnt make the 270 cut.. It would be unwise to say he didnt know what he was doing since he made it to the 3rd stage.. One thing i noticed tho was him being religious during the recruitment exercise and falling out when he wasnt invited for the MC.. They are quite a few interesting characters on that thread.. My most important observation being that none of the active posters made it, 2ndly 80% of NL that made it were already working... It sure does hurt to go that far and not crossing the finish line..
My question thus,is it fair to make the 270 cut and still depend on mother luck to be chosen...

P.S i didnt go through d whole thread..skipped a reasonable amount of pages

Hi people, I had my interview on thursday. the first is a group exercise, in which yu are expected to work with other team members to partition the outlines of a building to be use for an automobile manufacturing coy. Speak out very loud, dont jump and you shouldnt neccessarily be the first to talk. contribute wisely and dont be too controversial.
The second is analysis presentation, you are required to study a material and then present your view to a panel of two. Its about a coy that wants to opens a new restaurant and is considering two locations. you have facts and figure to use, choose a location and use points to support your views.
The third is a 1hr interview, its about who you are, how you can be a team player, your personal life experiences will show them who you realy are. Just be yourself, the men are not intimidating, they will give you time to talk. Its good you start remembering the best things you have done in your life.
Wishing us all the best.

See what i got from the 2007 set on AC

My people, what is all this talk about @kuwena being silenced! I am just back from my final encounter with NLNG. And now, I shall tell you how it went. I was scheduled for July the 4th, this month, like you all know. So I took a casual leave that has lasted for one week. I traveled from Kano to Lagos, enroute Abuja, where I stopped a day to visit a friend and to get a feel of the city (Abuja is one place I love very much). Leaving Abuja, I entered Lagos on Tuesday evening, and went straight to Festac, where I stayed. I settled in, and began to make phone calls to all my friends, to tell them I had arrived. The entire Tuesday was spent catching up with friends. Then on Wednesday, the 4th of July, 2007, the Dooms Day, I chartered a taxi from Festac all the way to Federal Palace Hotel, VI (it cost me =N=1,500.00) at quarter to seven; but because of the traffic jam, I still reached Federal Palace at ten minutes past eight. As soon as I entered the hall (I think it was the 11th floor or so) I saw the other candidates seated. Each person was well dressed in suit, as I was. They were being accredited. Accreditation in this regard simply means their viewing the originals of your university degree result and your sworn declaration of age, or birth crtificate. After the accreditation, we were given tags (since we were 20 to be interviewed that day, we were divided into two groups, A and B; so we had candidated A 1-10, and it was to be the same for those in B). I was in A.

The exercise consisted on three major activities:
1. Group Exercise: Here they test your amenability to group settings
2. Presentation: Here they test how you can analyze complex hypothetical situations and respond to questions on them
3. Competency Based Interview: Here they try to find out your chief motivations.

Basically, there will be breakfast and luch lavishly served. There will also be transport fares given you. Everything will be doctored to your benefit. You need not even read any textbook, or anything whatsoever. You are simply to be yourself. Afterall, Socrates himself said: 'Be yourself, for noone likes a counterfeit.' You are also to show intelligence and a high level of self confidence. You are to be honest and humble; careful and considerate. Recall that you are not competing against people, but against the standard of the great NLNG.

The interview is the last stage. DO NOT CALL THEM AFTERWARDS. We are asked to be patient. The results would be out by September. If you get no offer letter, telling you to resume work, by the end of September, it means you have not been taken. If you do, it means you have, and are to resume work; there will not likely be training first; training comes after you must have worked awhile, and your skills known, so that they become clear on what they should train you on.

Please, relax. If you are tense, you will mess up.

Your 2-hot-2-handle Kuwena

(Y2K)

One love always!

Good question. grin
@mcpat, i'm not against you making preparations or planning ahead. But certain things must be put first, b4 others. Moreover, you phrased your question wrongly. Anyone who knows 'SHL is SHL'(as you say), won't ask if dragnet organizes it. Dragnet is a differnt exam body altogeda.
I hav a younger sista, 500lvl engineerin jst like you. And I would giv u same advice as I gave her:
1: Total focus on ur studies. Try to get an 'A' on project.
2: If ur 2'1 is alredy in the kitty, don't relax. Try to push ur boundary. Aim higher. (i had a good grade in d kitty but i still tried to graduate as the best)
3: start practisin GMAT, dragnet, SHL, interview as soon as you've graduated.
4: don't claim to know, when u don't know(i'm sorry to sound this way). A cup that is alredy full, can't be refilled.
5: I wish you Goodluck(not GEJ) and success in all your endevours and I hope u gradge as the best in ur dept.

NB: NLNG is not the only company that gives fulfillment, happiness and satisfaction. AIM HIGHER. Who knows, you might alredy have become a top executive in a differnt coy, by the time NLNG would be recruitng for the next set.
DON't CROSS THE BRIDGE b4 YOU GET THERE, rather PLAN TO CROSS IT b4 YOU GET THERE.

Ciao!! cool

majekdom2: did you get into the Uni at 15 .. From my calculation .. The least age that makes you fall in the bracket is 15 .. 15 plus 5years engineering degree gives you 20 plus one year service gives you 21.. This is minus ASUU and the short break before service.. plus 7years diff " may be "if not more or less gives you 28 ..28 was actually the age limit for 14 intake .. If unemployment keeps on the rise it might go to 30 as it did over the last one .... But the truth is training costs money and considering the number of intakes I can bet it would take sometime before an intake of another set.
yea i was admitted at d age of 15

I don't think its a shl and gmat with your course loads would be a good combination. Well , you really want a career in this industry ? Work properly on your final year project work .. Who knows , it might break you into the industry .. I know peeps who are in these companies cause of researches they had with these companies. All said bro , its a competitive market out there . If NLNG is to follow this same trend , I don't think your age in 7 years time would make you eligible for this position , I was in my first year the last time this was done. You can look into other companies. The truth has always been said , if you are good you are good ... All you need do is pray for God's grace with your preparations. I ll advice you do proper networking .
many thanks bro, i actually plan on starting after school.. My 2'1 is in the kitty practically..if they do follow d current trend luckily i will still be in d age bracket... I agree with u his grace has been the catalyst.. I kinda prefer nlng to others

I think it's admirable tht he's trying to add shl preps to his undergrad schedule. Pls, mcpat do ur best to also practice on ur interviewing skills& volunteer as much as u can. And keep at it.. do u read before u post or u just do so because u want likes? I know SHL as a foriegn test like GMAT,GRE and GSE..
