This is my favorite thread on nairaland. I have spent atleast 3days reading from page 0, too bad it's grown cold now. I hope the pros in the house see this reply!

I studied telecom engineering (BEng) and have sound knowledge of telecom concepts because I have watched a lot of tutorial videos and done a lot of reading on RF, core networks, networking, etc. The usual route is to start getting certified in telecom courses like CCNA, CNWA, ITIL, etc. but with this exchange rate it's almost impossible for me to do this (on my own).

I need the usual sound advice from the bosses and others in my shoes about how to go about my career because i'm getting scared of the (/my) future! I think a good path would be to get a firm, probably offer to work for free in order to gain the necessary hands-on, but i'm currently on NYSC in Uyo.

I've searched for telecom firms here and in PH (I'm from PH), but I cant seem to find any opportunities.
I know i'm not alone on this, and the bosses here perfectly understand my plight..
PLEASE if anyone here can be of any help, I would really appreciate it. Even a recommendation or a website would be really really appreciated. Others in my shoes, let's know ourselves!

I laugh at some comments here. 40k is surely poor to survive on in Abj but many people are surviving on that salary. I am sure a Grade level 6 Civil servant in some Govt depts receives about that amount or a little less and they are more in number dan Level 7 upwards. Mr Op planning is d key. But I want to assure u dat dis stage of life u are in now is transitory. Just b focused. Any descent girl or lady dat can patiently be by your side now should not be despised in d days of your plenty, because I know that d sunny days must surely come. Remain blessed . One thing u must fear at this stage is debt, fear it more than u fear anything it can cripple u except u borrow to start up something for yourself.

Well, I never thought 100k a month was a lot of money but comments here, are actually giving me serious food for thought. All the same, if you can cope with that, then marry him. If you can't, please don't. It makes absolutely no sense to frustrate the dude and yourself. One thing I've learnt is never to completely judge women who try to set certain standards so long as they are products of such standards. With the kind of comments I have been reading here even from girls, I now know that all hope is not yet lost on getting a right thinking lady as a wife. All one need do is just watch out & be a little more serious with oneself. If a lady can't settle with me when am earning less than 100K why will I settle with her when I get to GL 12. Some will just hang around looking out to see if your income will triple in 2 yrs. Many young girls will face the too late if they are not careful.

The creative law of movement must be obeyed. We all make this mistake and forget so soon that reaching a particular height is life is relatively easier to achieve than maintaining that height.

When people get to a significantly high level, they tend to relax. When people get married, partners tend to neglect to continue to work on themselves, on their vanity and weaknesses.

It is advisable that people match with those they are on the same level. But, they must not let complacency set in which can bring them down. They should continue to strive upwards, shoulder to shoulder, to the highest level of perfection both in the material and spiritual sense.

Let me also add that marriage can only be spiritual. Complementarity of the souls should be taken into consideration. And finally, The united goal must be a spiritual one if the union is to remain sacred and be a blessing to mankind.

I respect OBJ but he is a hypocrite. He doesn't speak like an elder statesman, I wonder the kind of husband he will be. Any one that knows the enormous documents, proposals, reports & position papers that pile up in the ”incoming” tray of a President will know that it is not possible for a President to read in details all the documents that comes before him. That is the main reason why they have Senior Special Advisers on this & that Matters, that briefs them on certain clauses in the document before him. Having said that a lot will depend on the quality of these Senior Special Advisers for the Presidents actions in their domain. There are very few documents that a President may take all his time to read in between the line before signing. So if President GEJ decide to unban toothpick importation, so what. What did the Chambers of Commerce & the Capitalists do differently within the time that toothpick was under ban. Did they produce Nigerian made substitutes that can price less than the foreign ones, answer is NO, did they initiate any bill or lobby the Legislature to make stringent rules or even to make import duties on toothpick very high so that the locals will go for the Nigerian made answer is NO.
Ultimately the president will take glory & blames for success or failure of his government. But I don't agree that a president must Read through to the end all the subjects he appends his signature on.
