Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has reacted to the attack on Senator Ike Ekweremadu by aggrieved members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV had earlier reported that the immediate past Deputy Senate President was petted with stones by members of the IPOB, today, at an event in far away Germany.
Reacting in a tweet sighted by Igbere TV, on Saturday, @realFFK, Fani-Kayode said what happened to the Enugu West Senator was just an eye-opener.
He, therefore, called on politicians from the Southern part of Nigeria to “stand up” and “defend” the people, warning that people of the region are getting angry.
“What happened to my friend and brother Sen. Ike Ekweremadu in Nuremberg, Germany at the hands of IPOB is an eye-opener and clear signal to every political leader in southern Nigeria! The people of the south are getting angry and you either stand up and defend them or stand aside!”, he wrote.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo has reacted to the attack on Senator Ike Ekweremadu by aggrieved members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV had earlier reported that the immediate past Deputy Senate President was petted with stones by members of the IPOB, today, at an event in far away Germany.
Reacting in a statement sent to Igbere TV, on Saturday, the group condemned the attack on the Senator, while calling on the German law enforcement agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The statement which was signed by Chief Nnia Nwodo, President General of Ohanaeze, described the assault on Senator Ekweremadu as a disgrace.
Full Statement,
“The assault on Ekweremadu by Igbos in Germany, described as IPOB, is disappointing, grotesque and dangerous for Igbo solidarity.
“This violent, rude, impertinent, divisive and discourteous style of IPOB or IPOB-instigated miscreants is damaging to our cause. It strengthens the case of those who describe them as terrorists and weaken our case against the infringement of our fundamental human rights.”
“Ekweremadu negotiated the sureties and securities for Nnamdi Kanu’s release on bail. He does not deserve this picketing and disgrace. A disgrace to him is a disgrace to Igbo race.
“Whilst I condemn the attack on our revered son and leader, I call on the law enforcement agencies in Germany to bring to book the perpetrators of this despicable act. It is un-Igbo. It is disgraceful.”
The Ogun State Police Command has said that soldiers believed to be from Ikeja Cantonment killed some residents of Isheri Olofin, a boundary Community between Lagos and Ogun, on Monday, Igbere TV reports.
This comes barely a week after some soldiers opened fire on three policemen and a civilian on a covert operation to arrest a kidnap kingpin in Taraba State, last week, killing all.
Speaking with Igbere TV in Abeokuta, on Friday, Police Spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the soldiers had a minor disagreement with youth in the area and started shooting sporadically into the air.
According to him, one Damilare Adelani was hit by bullets and died on the spot. “This infuriated the people who reacted against the soldiers leaving one soldier and 3 others injured.”
An eyewitness and resident of the area, who collaborated the report, said the soldiers appeared drunk and suddenly went berserk, killing three and injuring five others.
The witness who craved anonymity, said the soldiers opened fire on celebrators of the Isheri Day Festival in Kara Community, after they were told to stop harassing innocent people.
Igbere TV gathered that the soldiers had escorted one Tiri, son of Kara Market head to the event’s venue and were violently pushing other guests to create access for their principal before they were confronted by one of the community leaders.
“I told them that what they were doing was not proper. I told them to stop harassing other participants in the festival. The soldiers were two and they work as bodyguards to Tiri.
“The next thing, one of them pointed his gun at me and people gathered there.
“Tiri was also drunk because the three of them came in drunk. After the disagreement, they left and about 300 metres away, we heard gunshots. They just opened fire on people.
“Adelani Dare, who was urinating, was killed on the spot. Tayese sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital.
“The shooting angered the people and the soldier was attacked and wounded. He was also taken to the same hospital as Tayese.
“The next thing, they called for reinforcement and when their colleagues came to take the injured soldier, they saw Tayese and shot him dead right in front of the doctor.
“I think the hospital has CCTV and the police can get the footage to see what happened there. The soldiers killed three people and injured five persons.
“This whole thing started around 7:30pm on Monday. This is the first time we are experiencing this kind of sad incident during our festival. We have been celebrating this day for 31 years and have never recorded any death.
“We want the police to arrest Tiri. Once Tiri is arrested, it will be easy to fish out the soldiers who committed this crime because they are his bodyguards and he knows where they are from,” said the resident.
Police Spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who earlier confirmed the development, said the Command had launched investigation into the incident.
UMUAHIA — Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Kalu says Dr. Uche Ogah, the Minister-designate for Abia State, was better off than former Minister Okechukwu Enelamah, also from the state.
Enelamah was appointed Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment under President Muhammadu Buhari’s first term, in 2015, Igbere TV reports.
Addressing newsmen in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, the former governor said Dr. Uche Ogah would perform better than the former Minister.
He spoke during the Abia North Zonal meeting with members of his Constituency, which held at his Camp Neya residence, in Igbere.
According to him, Enelamah, though a technocrat (just like Ogah), failed in the area of party politics which he said was also vital.
Kalu revealed that the party leadership in the state reported the former Minister to President Buhari, which he believes the President acted on.
His words: “We are very happy because the Minister-designate is better than the one we had before. The one then was also a good technocrat, but the Party leadership complained that he was not playing party politics and I am sure the President listened to their complaints.
“The President has once again brought in experienced politicians and core members of the Party (APC). And this is how it should be, it is all about Party politics”, he said.
“Remember, the (Party) Constitution forbids anybody who is not a card-carrying member from being nominated as Minister. So the President did only what is right and he should be commended rather than condemned”, Senator Kalu added.
Senator Ike Ekweremadu representing Enugu West Senatorial District, was on Saturday humiliated in Nuremberg, Germany, by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Igbere TV reports.
In a video obtained by Igbere TV, on Saturday, the IPOB members could be seen pelting Senator Ekweremadu with stones for reasons not yet known as at press time.
The video indicates that a rowdy session erupted at a meeting attended by Igbos in the country, which the former Deputy Senate President had attempted to attend.
The PDP Senator could be seen being whisked away in an ash saloon car after it appeared his presence was not welcomed at the meeting.
The House of Representatives has summoned heads of four government agencies to appear before it, Igbere TV reports.
The agencies include the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria National Petroleum Coperation (NNPC), Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Customs.
The decision, Igbere TV learnt, followed a resolution by the House Committee in charge of these agencies.
Addressing newsmen on Thursday, in Abuja, Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Yusuf Buba, said the agencies are to appear before the House on Monday, August 19, 2019.
According to him, the Committee resolved to take the action as the Chief Executives failed to honour the invitation to appear before it for an investigative public hearing.
The public hearing, Igbere TV gathered, was on the need to determine why the Warri, Port Harcourt, Calabar, Onne and Onitsha inland complexes are not being put into maximum use.
Buba said it was an important matter and that the Committee would not let any individual or group treat it with levity.
He said the lawmakers were determined to get to the root of the matter and ensure the ports operated to full capacity.
Some Indians, on Wednesday, stormed the Nigerian Embassy in India, over alleged poor treatment of Ibrahim El-Zakzaky who is currently in their country for medical treatment, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV gathered that the protesting Indians also called for the “total freedom” of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, better known as Shiites.
Igbere TV recalls that El-Zakzaky and wife, Zeenat arrived India yesterday for medical treatment after a Kaduna State High Court granted them leave to travel abroad.
They were, before then, under the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, for many years over alleged genocide.
The protesting Indians carried placards with inscription that read, “Free Sheik Zakzaky.” “We condemn illegal detention.”
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday arraigned Mr Abdullahi Babalele, son-in-law of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, before a Federal High Court, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV had previously reported the arrest of Babalele and Uyi Giwa Osagie, lawyer to the former presidential candidate and two-time vice president.
While Atiku’s in-law was arraigned for allegedly laundering $140,000 in the build up to the 2019 general election, Osagie was arraigned for allegedly laundering $2 million in connection with the elections.
Igbere TV reports that the duo were arraigned before the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, on Wednesday.

Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, leader of the proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), better known as Shiites, has said that the situation at the Indian hospital he was taken to is “worse” than that of Nigeria, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV reports that the cleric made the allegations in an audio clip that has since gone viral on social media, where he described the situation was “worrisome” and “pathetic”.
El-Zakzaky and wife, Zeenat were flown to India (for medical treatment) on Monday following a Kaduna Court ruling last week after many years in detention.
But in the audio Igbere TV came across on Wednesday, the IMN leader accused the Nigerian government of “frustrating” his medical treatment in India.
Translated to English from Hausa, El-Zakzaky said the management of the hospital had been threatened not to admit him for “special treatment.”
He also alleged that the doctors he earlier made “arrangement” with have been changed to a new set on the orders of the Nigerian government.
Speaking further, the Islamic cleric said he and his wife were currently under tight security than what they witnessed in Nigeria, describing it as a “prison setting”.
An official of the IMN who confirmed the authenticity of the audio via a tweet, said El-Zakzaky and wife may soon return to Nigeria “over a change in the medical arrangement with doctors in India.”
Igbere TV has obtained the CCTV footage of the scary moment DJ Arafat rode to his death.
Igbere TV had reported that the Ivorian superstar died after a motorcycle accident in Abidjan, Ivory Coast’s capital.
The former Disk Jockey (DJ), with real name Ange Didier Huon, was 33 at the time of his death. He was considered one of the most popular Francophone artistes.
He issued 11 albums, mainly of “coupe-decale,” a dance music form combining choppy rhythms with hip-hop-style vocals.
His debut single “Jonathan”, which brought him to limelight was about “Death” and had its video clip shot in a Motorcycle Show held at the burial ceremony of his best friend “Jonathan”...Years later, he too died on a motorcycle.
In the CCTC video obtained by Igbere TV, DJ Arafat is seen riding his motorbike and performing a stunt before he unfortunately rammed into a car at a junction.
It started with him being handed the bike to perform the stunt. The late DJ was caught on camera pushing a fan away when tried stopping him. He had probably foreseen Arafat's demise.
DJ Arafat was pronounced dead on Monday after he was admitted to a hospital in Abidjan, with a fractured skull after the accident on Sunday night.
Watch the CCTV footage below to see exactly how the accident occurred.
Following the arrest of a soldier who killed a tricycle driver in Aba, some soldiers are currently stopping motorists plying the Aba-Ikot Ekpene road axis of Abia State from doing so, Igbere TV has learnt.
Igbere TV had reported that the victim, Chimaobi Nwaogu, was shot dead by Corporal Ajayi Johnson for allegedly refusing to give N100 bribe at a military checkpoint in the state.
A road user who confirmed the development, Barr Ugochukwu Amaraizu, said the soldiers are insisting that the motorists must rebuild the checkpoint “destroyed” during a protest arising from the wanton killing.
“They are insisting that the angry youths that protested over the killing of their brother, Chimaobi, must rebuild the army hut/shade that was destroyed on that very day”, he said.
Meanwhile, Igbere TV had previously reported that the killer soldier had since been detained at the military base in Abia.
Aliyu Yusuf, Defence Deputy Director of Information, made this known while confirming the arrest of the killer soldier.
Yusuf added that disciplinary action against the corporal was in course, saying he would be dismissed and handed over to the police for prosecution, if found culpable.
A memo from the Nigerian army directing its men not to travel in uniform, has hit the social media space, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV understands that the directive comes as anger intensified over the killing of police officers in Taraba State last week.
The officers were on a mission to nab a kidnap kingpin when soldiers suddenly opened fire on them, killing three and a civilian on the spot.
The suspect, Alhaji Hamisu Wadume, was also set free by the soldiers making insinuations rife that the killing was premeditated.
In the memo sighted by Igbere TV on Monday, the military asked all soldiers to “tread carefully” anywhere they sight police officers in the coming weeks.
“Inciting and inflammatory comments are being made by the NPF on the regular and social media platform, that is capable of inciting police officers to exhibit aggressive tendencies towards soldiers”, the memo read in part.
The memo further advised soldiers to “avoid being in uniform”, if necessary, “to prevent the situation from escalating.”
“Formations and unit commanders are to educate troops to be cautious in their dealings with police officers in the aftermath of the killings”, it further read.
“Troops travelling on roads are urged to do so in mufti”, the memo added.
RCCG Pastor Arrested Over Ibom Air Scam In Akwa Ibom
The police in Akwa Ibom State, has arrested one Mr. Dignity Lazarus, a pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, for allegedly defrauding over 300 persons in the state, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV gathered that the suspect, who was arrested Friday, is said to have deceived his victims that he is the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Employment Matters.
Investigation by Igbere TV showed that Lazarus uses Emerald Lounge, a popular hotel in the state, as his meeting point to defraud his unsuspecting victims.
Already, over 100 persons have been issued fake employment letters, with over 200 billed to receive their letters on Monday.
Lazarus is said to have fraudulently obtained from his victims between N100,000 to N250,000 to help them secure a job with Ibom Air.
However, luck ran out of the fraudster when he attempted to dupe a journalist in the state.
Upon sighting the fake Ibom Air employment form, the journalist swiftly alerted the relevant authorities and this led to his immediate arrest.
Items recovered from the suspect and sighted by Igbere TV, include duly completed application forms, Ibom Air employment letters, several passport photographs, laptop, mobile phones, several signed recommendation letters from the Office of the Governor and two Android devices.
“The suspect is providing the police with useful information which will help in unraveling the antics of fraudsters in the state”, a police source in Akwa Ibom, told Igbere TV.
Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, leader of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), better known as Shiites, will depart Nigeria today for medical treatment abroad, Igbere TV has learnt.
Igbere TV recalls that a Kaduna High Court had last week granted the embattled cleric and wife, Zeenat, leave to travel to India for medical attention.
The couple, who have been in detention for years, are billed to arrive the Medenta Hospital, New Delhi, for the medical treatment.
They are to return to the country immediately after the treatment for the continuation of their trial bothering on alleged genocide and treason.
A government official, who confirmed the development, said their flight through the International Wing of the Abuja Airport is at noon.
“They are already in Abuja and waiting to be flown to India along with DSS personnel by a privately chartered aircraft”, the source said.
Igbere TV had reported that the Kaduna High Court ruled that the duo must be accompanied on their trip by officials of the DSS and Kaduna State government.
President Muhammadu Buhari, has once again, absolved self from the rising insecurity occasioned by terrorism, banditry, kidnappings and other crimes in the country, Igbere TV reports.
The president rather attributed the security challenges to “decades of neglect of education and healthcare.”
Igbere TV reports that Buhari made the assertions on Thursday, when he received a delegation of Adamawa State led by the Governor, Umaru Fintiri at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Expressing condolence to the governor and the people of Adamawa over the death of his father, Alhaji Umaru Badami, the President prayed for the repose of his soul.
“I am delighted to receive your delegation today. As you are all aware, Adamawa is home away from home for me. Therefore, this meeting is more or less, a family gathering”, he said.
“I am pleased to hear your remarks, specifically on education and health. These areas remain priorities for this government, especially as we strive to achieve social inclusion and collective prosperity for all Nigerians.
“At the federal level, we are doing our best to address these issues. But the Federal Government cannot do it alone. We need states and local government areas to do their part. This is not about politics. It is a reality.
“Today, the majority of Nigerians are below 20 years old. And it is projected that our population growth rate will remain among the fastest in the world. This means any plans we have today must take into account tomorrow’s needs.
“I have taken note of your requests and recommendations. We shall review and act accordingly. I would suggest, however, that you send a written submission to my office in due course” President Buhari added.
On his part, Governor Fintri said Adamawa needed Federal Government’s support in the areas of agriculture, human development and roads, which necessitated his visit to State House.
Nigerians have reacted to the ongoing media war between the Nigerian army and the police resulting from the killing of some policemen by soldiers in Taraba State, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV had reported that three officers and a civilian were shot dead by soldiers at a checkpoint in the state. The policemen had arrested a kidnap suspect and were taking him along with them when the soldiers opened fire.
The army later said the soldiers mistook the officers for kidnappers.
Sagir Musa, Army Spokesman, said the soldiers were responding to a distress call on a purported kidnap incident within the area.
But reacting in a statement made available to Igbere TV, Frank Mba, Police Spokesman, said it is not true the officers did not identify themselves at the military checkpoint where they were shot dead.
Mba said the late officers had identified themselves as coming from the force headquarters.
He accused the army of being insensitive, insincere and unpatriotic in the manner it was handling the matter.
Using the hash tag #ProvideAnswersNigerianArmy, the police spokesman asked the army to provide answers to the following questions:
1. Where is the notorious kidnapper, Alhaji Hamisu Bala Wadume ‘rescued’ by the soldiers?
2. How and why was Alhaji Hamisu Bala Wadume released by the soldiers?
3. How could a kidnap suspect properly restrained with handcuffs by the Police escape from the hands of his military rescuers?
4. If Alhaji Hamisu Bala Wadume is a ‘‘victim of kidnap’’ as claimed, and properly rescued by soldiers, why was he not taken to the Army Base for documentation purposes and debriefing in line with the Standard Operating Procedure in the Nigerian Army?
5. Why were the Police Operatives shot at close range even after they had identified themselves as Police Officers on legitimate duty as evident in the video now in circulation?
Nigerians have continued to react to the posers, with many describing the development as unfortunate, while others mocked the police of being served the same meal they have been serving innocent Nigerians.
Autonomy: Ikpeazu Gave Us Only N10m out of N155m - Abia LG Boss Raises Alarm
Following the financial autonomy status granted Local Government administrators in Nigeria by the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration, one would have expected that Council Chairmen would enjoy full financial freedom, but investigations by Igbere TV has shown that the reverse is the case.
This revelation comes just as a Transition Committee (T.C) Chairman in Abia State, recently, raised the alarm that the state government had reduced the statutory amount meant for projects in his Local Government Area.
Some days ago, a Council Chairman in Edo was suspended by Governor Obaseki for “discovering” some loopholes in the pay system which the state government had reportedly used to syphon money from the council since the era of the new law.
President Buhari had through the National Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) granted the 774 Local Governments across the country financial autonomy, raising the hope of rural dwellers for a respite from financial recklessness in their respective councils.
The autonomy also heightened the expectations of the people and awakened their consciousness to inquire on how the funds accruing to their respective Local Government Councils are utilized, thereby holding the Chairmen accountable for their funds.
But Hon. Chidiebere Ihenyeremadu (Jato), Transition Chairman of Obingwa Local Government Council, Abia State, has raised the alarm that the state government still hijacks the councils’ funds despite the new law.
A social media user from Obingwa had called out the council boss, accusing him of “docility” and “inactivity” especially as regards recruitment of aides and execution of projects, reports Igbere TV.
Reacting to these allegations, however, Hon. Ihenyeremadu through his media aide (Bonky Alwell) revealed that the state government had hijacked funds meant for such developments ‘as usual.’
According to the council boss, all the 17 Local Government chairmen in Abia were given N10 million each by the state govt for execution of projects, instead of the statutory N155 million, suggesting that the council enjoys no financial freedom.
“Referencing your post Augustine Akomas, I wish to respond on this your unwarranted attack on the Chairman of Obingwa Local Government without prejudice”, the chairman’s media aide said.
“The T. C. Chairman, Obingwa Local Government was appointed and sworn-in on 14th of February, 2019, a day prior to Presidential Elections, which election disbursements has been made by some Commissioners and other Governor’s Aides through Local Government Allocation…
“Nonetheless, no Local Government Chairman has the capacity to execute any project based on the Meagre running cost allotted to them.
“Of a truth, a huge amount was collected (Facility) with ALGON account in the name of election processes which wasn’t utilized for the purpose of collection.
“However, The only money given to Obingwa Local Government was the Ten Million Naira fund for projects which other Local Government’s received same last week. Meanwhile, whosoever that wears a shoe knows where it pitches him. ISIALA NGWA SOUTH CHAIRMAN may have used his project fund for a purchase of Vehicle’s. Perhaps, JATO in his wisdom had his F&GPC meetings today for proper and adequate utilization of said fund in line with the descriptions of F&G EXTRACT.
“Akomas, I would have advised you set your machineries or consult those in possession of this Obingwa project fund or seek the Chairman’s opinion before you strike… JATO is a man of his words and wouldn’t shy away from responding to you if the need be. You can also verify if he has aids or not. If you have personal grievances, then you are on your own. The Obingwa project fund is not for personal aggrandizement”, he added.
Efforts to reach the Council Chairman for clarifications on the matter were unsuccessful. Similarly, Mr. John Okiyi-Kalu, Abia State Commissioner for Information, could not be reached for comments.
Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has lost out in his bid to ensure that his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) adopt indirect primaries method for the selection of candidates for the Kogi State 2019 governorship election, Igbere TV reports.
This was as the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Friday, ordered parties in the suit challenging the planned adoption of indirect primaries not to “take any step that could affect the subject of the case, pending its final determination.”
Justice Taiwo Taiwo gave the order while ruling on an ex-parte brought before him by the applicants; Destiny Aromeh, Isa Abubakar, Noah Aku and Joy Onu, who are members of the APC in Kogi.
Igbere TV recalls that the applicants had taken Governor Bello to court over the adoption of indirect primaries by the Kogi faction of the APC loyal to the governor.
The applicants had also sought the intervention of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) in the planned primaries, insisting on direct method for the selection of the party's governorship candidate.
Justice Taiwo while granting their prayers also ordered an accelerated hearing in the case on the grounds that the APC primary poll for the Kogi 2019 governorship election is fixed for August 29.
The judge ordered parties to file all the necessary documents and indicated his intention to hear the substantive suit and all pending applications on Aug. 19.
While the APC primary will hold on August 29, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced November 16 as date for the Kogi State 2019 governorship election, reports Igbere TV.

A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who just passed out, has proposed to his fellow member during their Passing Out Parade (POP).
Igbere TV reports that the event took place on Thursday, July 25 in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.
Our correspondent who captured the romantic scenario gave the name of the lovers as Olufemi Bolaji Ahmed (male) and Juliana Effiong (female).
Both corp members served in the same state, Abia. While Ahmed passed out from Technical School, Ovim, Effiong served in Madonna Comprehensive College, Ovim.
Igbere TV reports that Ahmed, from Ondo State, is a graduate of Psychology from the University of Ibadan.
Miss Effiong, from Akwa Ibom, is a graduate of Economics from Adamawa Sate University, Yola.
Ahmed was pictured kneeling down while other corps members took photos of the beautiful moment.
The seemingly surprised lady said YES to his proposal. We are safe to say that the lady got a discharge certificate and a ring same day.
Speaking with Igbere TV correspondent, in Umuahia, Olufemi Ahmed said he was madly in love with his fiancée, Effiong.
He also revealed that both of them met during their service year in Abia.
“We met during the course of my service. What I did today is one of my promise for my endless love for her, she is more than the best. Watch out for the next level”, Ahmed said.
Igbere TV reports that the POP, which ought to take place in Isuikwuato, had to be moved to Umuahia due to the number of those passing out.
The Senate on Wednesday successfully screened Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, the Ministerial nominee for Abia State.
Igbere TV reports that Ogah, an Accountant, was the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Abia State 2019 governorship election.
Dr Uche Ogah responded to over 20 questions asked by the Senators before the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan asked him to take a bow.
Speaking on the Floor of the Senate, Igbere TV reports that Uche Ogah said Nigeria has all it takes to feed the entire world.
President Muhammadu Buhari had submitted a list of 43 ministerial nominees, which was read at the senate plenary on Tuesday.
Ogah, who was the first nominee to be screened, said the country could diversify from oil to agriculture.
“We don’t need to depend on only oil. I believe that if we develop our agricultural sector, we can equally develop, and create jobs for our teeming youths,” he said.
“Take for instance, if you build a farmland where you can house over 150 youths and you provide enabling accommodation for them and you give them all the necessary amenities. I can tell you that these youths will be powerful to turn an entire piece of land to something that will create revenue for the entire country.
“We as a nation can export and feed the entire world. We have a capacity, we have the population, we have all the resources that is required which is the human capital which is the best that is needed. So I believe that if we can do that, we can actually improve in this nation.”
The United States, on Tuesday, announced visa restriction on Nigerian politicians who were involved in election violence in the 2019 general elections, Igbere TV reports.
The US government said it was a fulfilment of its earlier promise to the Nigerian government on election offenders, in January this year.
“In a January 24 statement, the U.S. government said that we would consider consequences - including visa restrictions - for individuals responsible for undermining the Nigerian democratic process or for organising election-related violence”, a statement from the US Department of State, read.
Igbere TV recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari won a second term in office in February, in an election characterized by rigging, logical problems, widespread violence and killings.
Those affected by the latest policy, according to the US, are all those who undermined or sabotaged the country’s democracy during the electoral processes.
“To that end, the Secretary of State is imposing visa restrictions on Nigerians believed to be responsible for, or complicit in, undermining democracy in Nigeria. These individuals have operated with impunity at the expense of the Nigerian people and undermined democratic principles and human rights.”
The US government failed to name the affected individuals. It, however, emphasized that “these individuals have operated with impunity at the expense of the Nigerian people and undermined democratic principles and human rights.”
In a statement by Morgan Ortagus, Spokesperson of the US Department of State, she said the restrictions are for certain individuals and not for the entire Nigerian people or Buhari’s government.
“The Department of State emphasises that the actions announced today are specific to certain individuals and not directed at the Nigerian people or the newly elected government”, Ortagus added.
A man identified simply as Moses, Tuesday, fell to his death from the top floor of the Edo State High Court, sending panic in the area, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV learnt that the deceased fell from the 10th floor of the building when he tried using a faulty elevator which had been removed for repairs.
A source said the deceased, who was a visitor in the court, had gone through a door he thought would lead to the toilet and fell to his death.
A relative of the 65-year-old told newsmen that they were in the court room together waiting for a lawyer when Moses went out to ease himself.
According to him, after waiting for several hours, he decided to check when he heard noise outside only for him to find Moses’ motionless body.
He blamed the contractor for Moses death, saying there was no sign that the place is a no go area.
Contacted, Spokesman for the Edo State Police Command, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the incident, told Igbere TV that some staff of the High Court have been invited for questioning.
Similarly, a middle-aged woman, Mary, who identified herself as a niece of the deceased, said justice must be served on the matter.
EzeIgboNwaChukwu: IPOB are generally known to be violent savages, no wonder they were being tagged as terrorist. Can u imagine they don't even respect a man of God but they beat him up because he refused to accept Biafra with them
