Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, says he appointed his aides from the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, Igbere TV reports. This, he said, is in “furtherance of the All Progressives Congress’ unity agenda and the determination to involve youth in governance.” Omo-Agege spoke while addressing some personalities and members of the Youth Progressive Initiative in Northern Nigeria. Igbere TV reports that the group had organized a reception in the Senator's honour in Abuja. Omo-Agege said: “There is no state in the north where I don’t have an aide, there is no state in the South-West where I don’t have an aide; this is because the office of the Deputy President of the Senate is a national one.” According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, which was sent to Igbere TV, “the decision of the northern group to honour Senator Omo-Agege was an expression of solidarity with his patriotic and nationalist stance to issues that concern the progress of Nigeria.” Speaking at the event, Senator Omo-Agege urged the youths to shun all form of regional, religious and ethnic sentiments, saying, “youth of this country, this country belongs to you; if you want a country where you are seen as a northerner or southerner that is the country you will get but if you want a country where you are seen as a Nigerian, then that is exactly what you will get.” Igbere TV gathered that prominent citizens at the event include a former Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, Senator Godswill Akpabio and Senator Gbemisola Saraki. In his speech, Senator Godswill Akpabio, described Omo-Agege as a patriotic Nigerian who believes in loyalty to party and constituted authority. The former Senate Minority Leader said Omo-Agege’s emergence was “a clear indication that what God has ordained to happen cannot be stopped by any plot of man.” He called on the Deputy Senate President to ensure that the appointment of committee chairmen in the Senate is evenly spread among all geopolitical zones in the country. Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, has announced his retirement from the national team, Igbere TV reports. This comes hours after winning the golden boot award at the just concluded 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Igbere TV reports that Nigeria came third at the tournament which took place in Egypt. Ighalo made the announcement via his Instagram page, which was sighted by Igbere TV on Saturday morning. “This is one of the most difficult career decisions I have had to take. It’s been an amazing 5 years journey, but after due consultation and extensive discussion with my family I have decided it’s time for me to retire from the National team,” Ighalo wrote on his IG wall. “It’s has been an eventful and most memorable opportunity to serve my country with pride, passion and to contribute my quota to the development of our football, the memories would stay with me for a long time and I’m immensely grateful. “It is now time to concentrate in club football and give the younger players chance to learn and grow. I would love to thank NFF, coach Gernot Rohr for believing in me against all odds, to my team mates for their professionalism and team spirit without you guys I wouldn’t have achieved so much with this team. Igbere TV reports that the robbers had made away with a Toyota Venza car snatched at gunpoint. Unknowing to them, the car had a tracker. Our correspondent reports that the incident occurred along Etete road area of G.R.A in Benin City, Edo State. Igbere TV gathered that the car owner had reported the robbery to the police, who immediately swung into action and gave the robbers a hot chase. The stolen vehicle, Igbere TV learnt, was tracked down at Sapele road area of Benin, along country home motel road. According to an eyewitness, “two died during exchange of fire with the officers, while one managed to escape with bullet wounds but was later caught by the police.” Igbere TV, however, learnt that the gang member later died at the station from the bullet wounds. A former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia on Friday begged the kidnappers of his 80-year-old mother, Madam Beauty Ogere to release her unconditionally. Igbere TV reports that Ogere was abducted on July 15 at her apartment in Odoni community, Sagbama Local Government Area, by unknown gunmen. Igbere TV learnt that the kidnappers reportedly established contact with Siasia’s family and demanded N70m to release their victim. But Siasia, who spoke on telephone, Friday, begged the kidnappers to set his mother free unconditionally. The ex coach, who is currently out of the country, said his cousin spoke with the kidnappers, who demanded the ransom. He, however, said he was currently out of job and did not have such money to pay as ransom. He appealed to the kidnappers to set his mother free because of her old age and failing health. He said: “...To the kidnappers, I just want to say please, release her. I beg you. The woman is old please release her. I don’t have a job in the last three years. She is an old woman, with this cold, she may not survive it. The Nigerian government may soon increase the price of petrol from N145 per litre, Igbere TV has learnt. This was as the new Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mallam Mele Kyari, described the N145 pump price as the cheapest in West Africa. Igbere TV reports that Kyari stated this yesterday during a visit to Senate President Ahmad Lawan at the National Assembly complex, Abuja. “The N145 per litre fuel price regime in Nigeria runs against the N350 per litre most of the other West African countries operate, encouraging smuggling. “It is even very difficult for us to make the product available at N145,” he said. The new GMD said he would lobby the National Assembly to ensure speedy passage of laws relating to the oil and gas industry to enhance performance. He congratulated Ahmad Lawan on his emergence as Senate President of the Ninth Assembly. The National Judicial Council (NJC) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that the NJC, at an emergency meeting earlier today, also recommended to Buhari names of judges to be appointed as Chief Judges and Grand Kadis for eight states – Lagos, Anambra, Ebonyi, Niger, Taraba, Kano, and Jigawa states. The NJC commended Buhari for his unequivocal position on the financial autonomy for the state’s Judiciary and called on the various state executives to, as a matter of urgency, commence its immediate implementation. Igbere TV reports that on Jan. 25, Buhari suspended the then CJN, Walter Onnoghen, pending the completion of his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. The President consequently swore in Justice Muhammad as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria. President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, submitted to the Senate, a request for the appointment of Special Advisers, Igbere TV reports. “Citing section 151 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended which confers on him the power to appoint Special Advisers to assist him in the performance of his functions, the President requested the kind consideration of the distinguished Senators to appoint 15 Special Advisers,” according to Charles Akpan, Deputy Director, Office of Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters. The Senate on Tuesday called on the federal government to immediately ban the production, importation and sales of Sniper insecticide in the country, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that the call followed a motion moved by Senator Theodore Orji (PDP, Abia), during plenary. President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the death of 19 citizens in Kano State, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that 19 passengers had lost their lives when their vehicles collided at Dinyar Madiga in Kano State on Sunday. In a statement issued to Igbere TV on Tuesday by the President’s Senior Spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, he said Buhari received the news with great shock. The House of Representatives on Tuesday resolved to set up a committee to investigate the crisis rocking the Edo State House of Assembly, Igbere TV reports. This followed a motion brought before it by Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, Comrade Peter Akpatason and Hon. Johnson Oghuma, All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers from Edo State. Igbere TV reports that the motion seeks to compel the State Governor, Godwin Obaseki to issue a fresh proclamation for a proper inauguration of the Edo Assembly. It also seeks to temporarily take over the affairs of the Edo Assembly, pending whenever a proper inauguration is carried out. The sponsors of the motion described the move as a matter of urgent public importance “in view of the crisis rocking the legislative house.” During the deliberations, some lawmakers asked for investigation before the House takes the final decision. The Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, in his ruling, resolved that the committee, once set up, will be mandated to carry out its findings and report back to the House in one week before any further action. The main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Tuesday told the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal that its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, defeated President Muhammadu Buhari, in his home state of Katsina, Igbere TV reports. Mallam Salisu Maijigiri, who is the PDP’s State Chairman in Katsina and also the party’s collation agent in the state, said the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were untrue. “We (PDP) are the one who won the election, not APC. APC scored 872,000 and PDP scored, 905,000,” Maijigiri told the tribunal. “These are our own results, we collated in our state not the ones from the server,” he added. Igbere TV reports that INEC had declared Buhari winner in Katsina after polling 1,232,133 votes to beat his closest rival, Abubakar who had 308,056 votes. The difference between both candidates was 924,077 votes with Buhari winning in all the 34 local government areas in the state. President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, was on Sunday at the residence of National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu on a courtesy visit, Igbere TV reports. Yesterday's visit is the first official visitation to the former governor of Lagos State since Lawan’s emergence as Senate President. Igbere TV reports that Ahmad Lawan, who was elected President of the 9th Senate, got the support and endorsement of the former governor to contest the position. The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, was also present at the residence of Tinubu, where Lawan met with the APC national leader. Igbere TV reports that Ahmad Lawan emerged President of the 9th Senate on Tuesday, June 11, the day the ninth National Assembly was inaugurated. He was elected by members of the Senate to pilot the affairs of the red chamber for the next four years. Speaking at the meeting, the Senate President thanked Bola Tinubu for supporting him politically. He however promised to use his position for the development of the country. Dr. Maikanti Baru, has retired from the services of the Nigerian National Petroleum Commission (NNPC), Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that Dr. Baru clocked the statutory age of 60, July 7. He was the 18th Group Managing Director (GMD) of the NNPC until his retirement. Taking to Twitter to announce his retirement from active service, the former NNPC GMD wrote; “Today, having clocked the statutory age of 60, I have retired from the services of @NNPCgroup. I wish the new GMD Mallam @MKKyari and his team success. The Southern States’ chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has reacted to the threat and ultimatum issued by a Northern group over the controversial RUGA settlement plan, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that a Coalition of Northern Youths had over the week, issued an ultimatum to the federal government to rescind on its decision and reintroduce the RUGA programme or be ready to face “the consequences.” It would be recalled that the federal government had over the weekend, suspended the programme following public outcry. Reacting in a statement made available to Igbere TV Sunday night, CAN said “they (the Northern group) should understand that nobody has the monopoly of violence. As they are planning to attack, others are planning to defend themselves and we cannot run away for them. “CAN is calling on all Christians, all law abiding citizens of the Southern Nigeria to please watch and pray. A group, the Nigeria Association of Yoruba Pig Farmers’ (NAYPF), has written President Muhammadu Buhari demanding the establishment of “pig colony” in Northern parts of the country, Igbere TV reports. This comes on the heels of federal government's move to establish RUGA cattle colony for Fulani herdsmen across the country. Although the presidency has since suspended the programme following public outcry, insinuations are, however, rife that the project may soon be reintroduced in another form. In a statement issued to Igbere TV by NAYPF’s National President, Rev Bunmi Thomas, he said the plan is aimed at expanding the pork business and growing the economy. According to him, the initiative, once implemented, will help to “strengthen the unity and economy base of Nigeria”, thereby leading to more employment opportunities. The NAYPF boss hinted that a team of experts have been contracted from China to help establish a Pork Oil Factory in Abuja, for global exports from Nigeria to other countries. A former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Chief Adolor Okotie-Eboh, is dead, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that Okotie-Eboh died at the age of 64. Family source told Igbere TV that the late former chairman, who is the son of First Republic Minister of Finance, Chief Festus Okotie-Eboh, died in the early hours of Saturday after a brief illness. Meanwhile, a former Governor of Delta State and Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has expressed shock over the death of Okotie-Eboh, whom he (Uduaghan) described as patriot of the Nigeria’s project under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration. In a statement issued to Igbere TV and signed by Monoyo Edon, Uduaghan’s Media Assistant, he noted that the APC chieftain contributed to the development of the party in no small major in Delta State and Nigeria at large. Uduaghan said, “Chief Adolor’s death is depressing to the Itsekiri nation, the All Progressives Congress and Delta State due to his gigantic contributions to the political narrative of not just Delta State but also Nigeria in general. “I pray that God would strengthen and console his family in this difficult time. We miss you Omimi Ejor!.” The former governor while commiserating with the family of the deceased and indeed the entire APC, prayed for the repose of the deceased and the fortitude for the family to bear the loss. On his part, the 2019 APC governorship candidate in Delta, Chief Great Ogboru expressed shock over Chief Adolor's death. In a statement he personally signed and sent to Igbere TV, Ogboru described the death of Adolor Okotie-Eboh as a great loss to Delta APC “following his antecedents in the growth of the party in the state.” Ogboru said; “Chief Adolor was a founding member of the APC and fought for his beliefs. He will be missed for his forthright views on topical issues. May he Rest In Peace.
