Politics › Re: Northern Elders’ Forum Orders Fulani Herdsmen To Vacate Southern Nigeria by MetaPhysical: 12:54am On Jul 17, 2019
There was a development in the background that led Ango Abdullahi to issue that statement. He is the same Arewa Elder that stood up in support of Shettima's group when they issued Kaduna Declaration. Ango Abdullahi is one of the financiers of ideological and separatist movements in Arewa. Here it is...

The Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, said it has lost confidence in the sincerity of the Federal Government to execute any positive initiative towards resolving the herders’ problems in the country.

The groups also noted that there hasn’t been encouraging concern by the Federal government for the dilemma of the Fulani, who have been attacked in various states.

The CNG spokesman, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, while on a visit by the groups to the chairman, Northern Elders Forum, Prof. Ango Abdullahi said, “We find it difficult to trust the commitments of this government, which has for the past four years failed to execute any positive initiative towards resolving the herders problems nor shown any encouraging concern for the dilemma of the Fulani who have been attacked in various states.”

The groups observed, “Based on the above observations sir, and the fact that the instigation of hatred against the Fulani persists, we feel obliged to advise the leadership of the Northern Elders Forum to consider calling on the Fulani to forego their right to live and flourish anywhere in the south and relocate to their various states in the north to ensure their safety.”

Speaking on the recent murder of Pa Fashoranti’s daughter, the groups noted that the failure or neglect of the police to trace a connection between the murder and the seeming prearranged conduct of Fani Kayode, Odumakin and Gani Adams by their haste to shift the blame in order to render the Fulani object of attack is certainly suspicious.

CNG stressed, “Also within the same period, some section of the southern leadership had introduced a fresh round of instigations by indiscriminately blaming the death of the daughter of the Afenifere leader, Fashoranti on the Fulani and threatening reprisals on northerner.

“Throwing caution to the winds, Gani Adams, Fani Kayode, Yinka Odumakin and a host of other southern regionalists shamelessly insisted on changing the narratives around killing of the Fashoranti lady. In the process, they threatened all forms of violations and breaches against northerners including the threat of an all-out war.”

The groups said their visit to Professor Ango Abdullahi was to update him on developments since their last press conference at which they reviewed the current state of the nation in relation to the Northern region.

They said, “We noted the unceasing disturbances in the polity with particular concern to the security situation in the North and the various reactions from the South.

“We emphatically repudiated the attempt at vilifying, profiling and isolating the Fulani herders and exposing them to stigmatization and attacks in many parts of the country.

“We specifically placed the Federal Government on a 30-day notice to halt the harassment, intimidation and forceful expulsion of the Fulani instigated by southern leaders. We also urged state governors to give peace a chance by re-considering their hard stance against the federal government’s resettlement initiatives for the pastoralists.

“Our submission naturally drew the usual varied responses with the ones that actually matter, coming from the Northern Governors Forum and the Northern Elders Forum which we feel obliged to acknowledge.”

Politics › Re: Obasanjo's Open Letter To Buhari, 2019 (Full Text) by MetaPhysical: 12:00am On Jul 17, 2019
Let's not get lost in the euphoria of the letter but we must concern ourselves on the tasks outlined for President Buhari by Baba Obasanjo.

A summary of the letter is that Nigeria cannot last much longer in the way it is trending and the President must quickly congregate eminent stakeholders around the country for input on what everyone wants.

In effect, saying a renegotiation of the union is the only safety net left to halt Nigeria's drift into its end of life.

We have mouthed insults and blamed leadership for not giving us motivation. Baba Obasanjo has presented one. So to all those who want a restructuring of this country, going forward our chatter and noise and discussions must focus on subjects of contract renegotiation proposed by Baba Obasanjo.

We have put North on notice now. We must back it up with action in every forum discussion and on social media.

I speak Hausa very fluently, I read and write it very well.

I have gone around Hausa blogs on internet today and I see whay you guys dont see. These people have a sense of entitlement on Nigeria.

Ango spoke about recruiting and reinforcing fulanis across West Africa to wage war in Nigeria and he even bragged they would not loose a war. Many Northerners consider Ango Abdullahi one of their heros. A man over 80yr old talking like that....you know there is more going on that they are not speaking aloud for us to hear...or just contained within their own cycle and out of our earshots.

I inflitrated their blog circuits many years ago and even attend social events with some of them.

Yakassai spoke and said he wants Buhari to revisit and immediately start working on 2014 confab. The same man who spoke against it few years ago. So Obasanjo's letter is having effect.

Their blogs are lit up today calling for war.

We will cripple their future and sack them from their thrones and return Hausa to their rightful place. This side of West Africa was doing allright until Fulani settled. It has not been the same since.

Enough!

In fact we will bring about a deposition of all Fulani kingdoms and restore Hausa Kingdoms back to their ancestral thrones.

To hell with Fulani Elders and your nobilities. Who do you think you are threatening Obasanjo with arrest?

Beside terrorism, what is your legacy in Nigeria, starting with Dan Fodio?

To hell with all terrorists! We want all Fulani out of Nigeria. To hell with you all!
Politics › Re: Tinubu Will Turn Yoruba Off If He Continues With Insensitive Utterances by MetaPhysical(op): 7:06pm On Jul 16, 2019
Tinubu identifies himself as "nationalist".

To those who might not know, in the Nigerian context, a nationalist is one who puts Nigeria above his own ethnic identity.

Even Buhari, who Presides over Nigeria, is not a nationalist. No Arewa leader, military or civilian, has ever been a nationalist.

A nationalist can be a political leader, thats fine...but a conservatist must be the ethnic leader for Yoruba.

Tinubu will not be Yoruba leader, because the name Yoruba itself is a ethnic identifier.

Nigeria does not have ethnicity, therefore Tinubu is at home as a nationalist leading Nigeria...but I honestly cant reconcile or harmonize a nationalist occupying role of a conservatist.

Politics › Re: Why South-West Governors Are 'Helpless' On Security Situation In The Region by MetaPhysical: 3:31pm On Jul 16, 2019
fergie001:
Facts have emerged on the rationale behind the lukewarm disposition of governors in the South-West geo-political zone towards the damning security challenges in the region, especially the aggression of suspected herdsmen.

DAILY POST gathered through investigation that governors in the zone might not take any definite step in response to criminality going on in their domains mainly because of covert political considerations and interests.

A reliable source in the region, who did not want to be quoted revealed that the consensus among the governors in the South West on the need to play to the gallery and tactically put any decisive action on hold was predicated on the political predicament of the former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose.

It was learnt that majority of Northern political elites were seriously embittered in the manner in which Fayose stood his ground against open grazing in the state and the attendant security arrangement put in place to enforce the law against the act of moving cattle around.

“President Muhammadu Buhari and his fellow Fulani elite considered Fayose’s courage and resistance against open grazing in Ekiti then as an affront to their ethnic and economic interest. They also nurtured the fear that such decisive action could raise the consciousness of other governors in the South against Fulani herdsmen.

” That was the main reason the presidency gave massive supports to Governor Kayode Fayemi against Fayose’s anointed candidate, with huge resources and state apparatus. Let me tell you this, there is no way Fayose could have won that election for Eleka, the battle was beyond him, he was unknowingly battling with a strong political bloc led by the presidency.

“The victory of this cabal in Ekiti apparently sent a profound warning to governors in the region with regards to the issue of Fulani herdsmen and their incessant criminal activities. The governors get security reports on daily basis on the degenerated security situation in their states. There were suggestions from stakeholders in the region on better ways to tackle the menace, but these governors will continue to play politics and do nothing about it”.

Tinubu’s 2023 ambition as a factor

While the former governor of Lagos State and National leader of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Hameed Tinubu has not come out clearly to confirm his interest to contest for president in 2023, he has rather not outrightly denied the perception in different quarters that he is scheming and scrambling to become Nigeria’s first citizen.

Meanwhile, a member of inner caucus of APC, who is also a leading strategist for the party in Ogun State confided in our correspondent on
condition of anonymity and disclosed that Tinubu is more than desperate to succeed Buhari in 2023.

He added that Tinubu, having realised the intensity of support Buhari enjoys in the core North, coupled with the voting strength of the region and the culture of power of incumbency in Nigeria, he considered the President as a major determinant in realising his presidential ambition.

The source confirmed that the former Lagos State governor met with the five APC governors from the region immediately after May 29 to warn them against any activity that could jeopardize his existing relationship with President Buhari.

According to the source, Tinubu specifically mentioned the issue of Fulani activities in the South West and said the President is highly interested in the ” welfare of his kinsmen and would not be happy if any unwholesome thing happens to them and their cattle “.
He further revealed that despite the concerns raised by some of the governors over the alarming rate of insecurity in their states and the consistent allegations against herders of Fulani extraction, the consensus reached was that there is need to step down action on the issue and play along.

Allegations on RUGA funds

Another factor DAILY POST learnt was responsible for silence and inaction of governors of the South West is that the Federal government had indeed mobilised them with millions of dollars in preparation for the implementation of “autonomous Fulani settlements” popularly known as RUGA in the region.

The Executive Director of Gateway Tower, a socio-cultural organisation in Ogun State, Comrade Olabode Adigun said there were indications that governors from the South West have been compromised with huge amount of money to acquire expanse of lands in their domains for the implementation of RUGA.

“We authoritatively gathered that the idea of RUGA has been on for a long time and that the major target of the presidency and some Northern elite is the South West because of its forest belt nature and relative stability in the region.

“In a desperate move to protect his kinsmen and aid their expansionist tendencies, President Buhari had contacted a leading member of APC, who is from the region to make this possible and through him settled the governors.

“The public outcry against the idea, however, halted the plan, although that would still not make them to act and flush out killer herdsmen in their states”, Adigun said.

South-West security summit, a ruse?

A civil society organisation, Advocacy for Advancement of Peace and Harmony in Africa Initiative, ADAPHAI has described a security summit organised by South West governors between June 25 and 26 as nothing but a jamboree and “a mere window dressing of insignificant prognosis “.

The National Coordinator of the organisation, Comrade Sulaimon Suberu in a chat with our Correspondent dismissed the summit as an assemblage of clowns and pretenders, who have no intention to do anything concerning the present threat posed by suspected Fulani herders to the region other than playing politics.

He maintained that the present security challenges facing the region have gone beyond rhetorics but a proactive measure to put an immediate stop to this scourge and protect the people and the region, saying governors of the region are not doing enough.

Suberu alleged that there is a conspiracy between the Buhari – led administration and governors in the zone, which according to him made them to move with a speed of snail and remain insensitive to the plights of the common people.

“I was not surprised with what Bola Tinubu said recently in Ondo during his visit to Pa Fasoranti over his daughter’s death in the hands of suspected Fulani herdsmen, where he was quoted defending Fulani herdsmen with a lame polemics.

“I know for sure that his host, governor Rotimi Akeredolu must have hinted him on how Fulani herdsmen held his convoy to ransom for close to 45 minutes along Ilesa-Akure road but decided to say what his friends and cohorts wanted to hear in Aso rock, I really pity the region for celebrating character like this as leader.

“It was the former Prime Minister of Philippines, Gloria Aroyo, who once said that one of the greatest litmus test of a good leader is ability to be at the forefront leading, at the middle inspiring, and at the back defending the interest of his followers, but in this case, the reverse is the case “.

Meanwhile, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, who also doubles as the head of Odua People’s Congress, Iba Gani Adams has exposed the hypocrisy of South West governors during the said security summit.

He flayed them for ignoring his letters and calls to take proactive steps in checking the excesses of rampaging herdsmen before it degenerated to the level where innocent people were being killed and abducted in the region.

Point blankly, he called the governors by their names and explained how he made attempts to call their attention to the menace of the cattle breeders.

He said: “Nobody can take Yoruba land or constitute nuisance in South-west because Yoruba have been living peacefully for the past 120 years, so the incursion of criminally minded people will no longer be accepted.

“History will not forgive any south-west governor that gives land to herdsmen for the breeding of their cattle because the issue of insecurity is now overwhelming.

“We are not only talking about south-west alone, we are talking about everywhere Yoruba live, including Kogi and Kwara states. All hands must be on deck to curb insecurity because the progress of Yoruba land should be a collective effort of all of us.”

Ive written before and said if OPC field candidates for elective office, we will consider them as prime choice for our interests and needs.

A governor does not come in with knowledge of how to govern, they learn in office. This is why we sorround them with technocrats who are skilled in processes.

An OPC candidate does not need to know how to govern. He will learn it, sorrounded by core conservatists. We need to take our position as the number 1 in Nigeria.
Arewa must bow to Yoruba, and i dont see that happening under the administration of effeminate leaders who are incapable of giving resounding counter-statements to the propaganda from North.

Yoruba need to form its own Ulamah and appoint a head of Islamic faith. Afterall we did not get Islam from dan fodio...so why do we follow behind his descendants?

Yoruba needs to regain access and authority over ports in SW. No Arewa will ever sit as the headman of any ports in SW. No Yoruba has ever been a FCT Minister because Arewa considers Abuja as its domain even though its national territory. Likewise SW ports are our domains and no Arewa should head it.

These and many more issues are impossible to achieve under current set of follow follow governors.

OPC should take me serious. Field candidates for us to vote, beginning in Ondo's next election. Bring a candidate to compete with Akeredolu. One by one we will push these guys aside and install OPC so we can get our land back.

As things are right now, there are four stakeholders in APC - NW, NC, NE and SW.

All four are on NOTICE!

Unless the issue of security is quickly addressed, the demand for restructuring will escalate with street protests and detachments. It will definitely be anti-North.

North will become agitated and feel pressure not to relinquish power in 2023. But this is only possible through use of Army deployment and DSS to sweep up SW leaders angling for succession. Such action will further deteriorate relations and spin off into another episode of SW vs North tension and 90s will replay itself. This time Nigeria will not survive it and North will not survive it.

2023 is at great risk and so Tinubu's friends and loyalists are people like me and you, not Danladi in North or Chibuke in East. One more nonsense from him against Yoruba and I will join voices against him. Im still very offended in the way he treated Ambode. He has one more cut to make with that tongue....and Ill blacklist him.

I greatly admire Asiwaju and I acknowledge there is no one in Nigeria or anywhere in West Africa with the kind of political midas touch he is gifted with. He is a true "smooth operator" in the field of politics. However, Yoruba is faced with ethnic assault at moment and Tinubu needs to think as Yoruba and speak as one. If his party commitments will be compromised by him speaking for Yoruba, then he needs to shut up and not speak at all. His speeches is becoming anti-Yoruba. There is much at stake for him, but he risks turning Yoruba off!

Former Vice-Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Prof Ango Abdullah said the Fulanis can defend themselves more than anyone else in this country.

Abdullahi said the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria provides for the free movement of citizens across the country.

The professor also described the Fulani herdsmen as businessmen who can move freely to access the resources they require for their business.

“I am a Fulani man my ancestors were in the bush, but we find reasons to settle in one place. I have cows and anytime they cause damage I pay compensation and so that is the way it will be.

“Look, the Fulanis can defend themselves more than anyone else in this country. More than anyone else in this country, the Fulani man can always defend himself. Go and read the diary of Lord Lugard, who created this country.

Go and read what he said about the Fulanis. In fact, without our efforts to restrain the Fulanis, things would not have been easy for many communities.

No community can defend itself against the Fulanis if they want to fight. It is known sociologically and historically; nobody can fight them if they want to fight.

They are in the millions in West Africa and they can always mobilise themselves to defend their people anywhere in West Africa.

The Presidency has noted public concerns on the unfortunate attack leading to the death of daughter of the Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti. The President has issued a statement expressing his heartfelt condolences to the family of Mrs Funke Olakunri and followed up with a telephone call.

The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has in addition, paid a visit to the grieving family in Akure, Ondo State. Her death is a tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.

It is incumbent on all leaders across the country to consider their language and its potential consequences.

Insecurity is an issue that Nigeria must face together as one nation – united. Times of tragedy like these are not the time for politics. It reveals only disrespect for the departed and her family. And we hope that those who stand in positions of influence recognise and understand this.

“By the time we finish the screening, we will let the world know the perpetrators.”

On the number of the those arrested, Joseph said he would not be able to disclose the number for security reasons but said, “As I said a number of people have been arrested and when it is time we shall parade the suspects.”

In the same vein, the Secretary-General of the Yoruba Council of Elders, Dr Kunle Olajide, said South West governors should be blamed more for the attacks by herdsmen in the region than the Federal Government alone.

Olajide, in a chat with journalists during his condolence visit to Pa Fasoranti in Akure, said state governors ought to have taken drastic action against open grazing.

Olajide said, “This is an unfortunate incident, it is a poison arrow to the Yoruba nation and I have listened to some of our leaders who have been here and I want you to know that most of the comments are mere platitudes, some of them are grossly insensitive and honestly offend human sensitivity.

“For me, there is much to this, it is a killing too many, this is a direct assault on the Yoruba nation and to the sensitivity of our people. It shows they have clearly taken us for granted and this has to stop but I’m quite uncomfortable because most of the time we lay the blame at the doorsteps of the Federal Government but I want to say that more is at the doorsteps of our state governors.”

Absolutely! We need OPC to start fielding candidates so we can sweep out these governors at next election and put in place those with resolve to shield Yoruba against external aggression.
