Welcome.

IMHO, divestment of Gas and Power will potentially be Oando's greatest strategic mistake! Gas and Power is where the future of Nigeria is. What else will be left of Oando after. Happy investing.

Oil is really taking a beating now, and Gas is already on it's way up. Oando should be able to leverage up on Gas and power, their CNG biz too seems to be smiling these days.
I'd expect them to divest some of their crude assets but who ever knows with Oando? Still wondering the sense in that Conoco Phillips buy-over.

Until some stable legislation is devised by FG on the entire O n G sector, we'll likely keep wallowing in this mess.
Foreign investors won't commit resources to long term investments like refineries in this country if we don't have an established roadmap in place.
Unfortunately, the profiteers of the extant state are strong backers for the country's political figures, you'll need an outsider to cut through the bullshit and if only we'd learn't to think through issues,
We'd have seen their deftness in the whole charade before now.

Religion / Re: Why Do You Call Me Good? Analyze. by mickey45: 6:54am On Nov 17, 2015
malvisguy212:
In the Gospels, a rich, young man approached Jesus and said to him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus gave the infamous reply,“Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.” This story is
found in Matthew, Mark, and Luke; critics of Jesus’ claims to deity often use it as ammunition in their case for a non-
divine Jesus. It seems, they argue, that
Jesus is denying deity here by refusing
the title ‘GOOD’ as it is something reserved solely for God. I contend that even a surface-level reading of this narrative does not even remotely support that conclusion.
I don’t see how Jesus’ clarification of
God’s nature is equivalent to him
denying deity. This is akin to someone
coming to me and calling me, “Dr. Paul.” I respond by saying, “Why do you call me
doctor? No man can be a doctor, only he
who holds a doctorate.”

I can either mean one of two things:

1. No one can be a doctor unless he
holds a doctorate.
2. I do not hold a doctorate.
3. Therefore, I am not a doctor.

or…

1. No one can be a doctor unless he
holds a doctorate.
2. I hold a doctorate.
3. Therefore, I am a doctor.

By asking “Why do you call me doctor?”,
am I denying my title? Of course not. I
am simply clarifying what the title
means. I am neither validating nor
rejecting the title. In any case, I don’t
have a doctorate (yet!) but the point still
stands.

You can see how such reasoning is
completely absurd, and yet this is what
we see when critics use Jesus’ words in
this passage to try to show his non deity. Having said all of that, let’s have another look at what Jesus said in this passage.

He only said two statements:

1. Why do you call me good?
2. No one is good except God

The only piece of information that Jesus
gave is this: No one is good but God.
There are 2 ways to understand his
statement:

1. Only God is good.
2. I am not good.
3. Therefore, I am not God.

or

1. Only God is good.
2. I am good.
3. Therefore, I am God.

In this specific instance, from these
words alone, Jesus does make known to
us which of these he meant. It is both
ignorant and presumptive of anyone to
use this passage, alone, to argue for
Jesus’ non-deity. Why should the first
reading be the desirable one over the
second reading? Jesus’ statement that
only God is good does not, itself, tell us
whether he was affirming or denying
being God.

But if we keep reading, we find that
Jesus sheds some light on what he
meant. Jesus answers the man’s original
question about obtaining eternal life
with this“You know the commandments:

‘You shall not murder, you shall not
commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.'”

The man responds :”Teacher, I have kept all of these since I was a boy.”

Then Jesus finishes with: “One thing you
lack. Go, sell everything you have then
come, follow me.”

To summarize: In response to the man’s
question, “What must I do to gain eternal life?”, Jesus responds by telling him to
follow the commandments. But which
commandments does Jesus list?
Notice that Jesus only lists the
commandments that dealt with civil
affairs. The Ten Commandments of
Moses were divided into 2 parts: Laws on
dealing with God and Laws on dealing
with others. Respectively, these were the
moral and civil laws. Jesus names the
civil law for the young man and the
young man responds like any good Jew
would, These I have kept since I was
young.” The man was doing great on
keeping the civil law, but not so much
with the moral law. Instead of then
quoting the first four commandments to
the young man,the commandments that
dealt with man’s relationship with God, Jesus told the young man, “Sell your
possessions and follow me.” In other
words, “Your god is your money. Get rid
of that and follow me.” Jesus is equating
obeying the moral law with following
himself. The manner in which men can
obtain eternal life is by getting rid of the
false gods in their lives and following
Jesus , replacing them with him!
This claim is monumental! And it gives us
an answer to our initial dilemma. Did
Jesus deny or affirm his deity in asking,
“Why do you call me good?” I think the
answer is clear in light of the rest of that
conversation with the young man. Jesus
equated following himself with keeping
the moral law and obeying the
commandments that governed man’s
relationship with God. Thus, in bringing
up this passage as ammunition for a
non-divine Jesus, the critic shoots
himself in the foot by bringing to the
table a text in which Jesus clearly claims
deity.

Acts 20:28
“Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all
the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath
made you overseers, to feed the church of God,
which he hath purchased with his own blood.”

WE still owe Dino Melaye a lot of appreciation for bringing the public to the notice of such a contract signed with SystemSpecs. Without his alarm, those guys would have been smiling to the bank without any more work being done. However, I do not think SystemSpecs is to blame in any of these, the onus was on the government to have either outrightly bought the software or negotiated a better deal with a time frame to eventually own the software. Another arrangement would have been an annual service charge. However I am making all these suggestion because I am not one of the owners of the company, with this kind of contract in place, I for just de sleep for one country and wake up for another one

It isn't impossible, somebody came up with Facebook, whatsapp, Uber, Windows, E-transact etc.

True!! The 1% transaction fee is meant to be shared between the company and all the existing 26 commercial banks.

How is their compliance a tacit admission?? An 'admission' of just what, exactly?? The refund was a presidential order given by Buhari, because he wanted all funds pertaining to the TSA Accounts (including fees), to be placed exclusively in Central Bank. There was no evidence of wrong doing on the part of the company, or on the part of CBN or the commercial banks in this case. sad

The company bidded for the job to install a payments and collections platform for CBN. Out of all the firms that bidded, this company was selected by World Bank Project Team and CBN as well as the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, after a full technical evaluation and commercial review had been conducted.

Did you even read through all the comments made on this entire thread before rushing in to make this specific comment?? shocked

I surely read the write-up itself which should be the basis of all positions.
I was only stating the grounds on which her taking their refunding money to mean culpability might be possible.
Apparently my thinking, the refund might just be "damage control" may not fly either.
Seeing they only remitted monies they would be paid later.

The "vitrioling" is uncalled for and your point could easily have been
less scathingly made, but to each his own.
If you are an insider, that gives you some authority on the issue at hand.
Doesn't invalidate other "conjectures" as we all have different frames of reference for our opinions

We know all payment platforms have their charges, some institutions push these charges to customers (E-Transact and co.) Others bear it up.
CBN is not a third rate organization either so you'd expect best practices in their decisions.

Explains why even if I do not agree with most of Sanusi's marxist leanings, one must still respect his professionalism in that field

The funny thing is, the company simply dips its hands in our collective commonwealyth and pays itself what it likes, then passes the rest to the CBN. Then when they are cuaght, they rush to return some of the money.

Never seen a country like this before.

Shouldn't Remita pass ALL REVENUES to the owner of the money, and then the owner (Ministry of Finance or CBN) pays for their service? How can it be that Remita pays itself from the money it collects

you may need to read-up how Jimoh Ibrahim made his money, he offered the same service and got paid! Really paid!!

The so-called 1% as has been mentioned by someone earlier isn't just for the system specs people but for all "clearing houses" involved (they get to have only .005% even though that's not thousands either).
In all, the banks still make their money, just that they don't have access to it for lending.

And like I said earlier, a contract is a contract. Reviews are possible, but unless a case of wrongdoing can be legally ( and not newspaperly) established, you don't just arbitrarily order a refund.
If they have complied, it might mean either or both of a tacit admission on their part or they just don't want to lose the contract considering the loss it would translate into for them which is pure coercion.

Finally, you saying "this contract is going Down!!!", I hope it's not the El-rufai kind whose "whistleblowings" about NNPc has been rumored to be because he was "denied a piece of the pie"

The company is owned by John Obaro and Ernest Ndokwe, two Igbo men, and the only reason this corrupt arrangement is in place is because the then Minister of Finance, was Igbo. Central Bank Governor, Igbo. Then Secretary to the Federal Government, Igbo. Then add the utterly confused and ignorant President.

But Igbos would want us to believe that Yorubas and Hausas are solely responsible for ruining this country! How can you put 1% of the entire evenue of a country to a single company, and the remaining 170 million people get to share 99%. For what? This is a company that simply provides a one-off software, that you can buy for less than $100,000 (N20 million) and can be maintained by less than 30 people. Yet, they are carting away with N50 Billion naira.

It is part of the Jonathan legacy of corruption. Just imagine that Jonathan won, this nonsense of contract will have continued for years to come.

I confirm that Chief Kolade is Chairman and not a shareholder in this company. Companies who seek government contracst often put 'highly respected' members of the company as paid Chairman of their company. The That is why ex President Gowon is Chairman of several companies but he is not the owner of these companies. They just use these men/women as the public face of the companies. Other than Mr Obara and Ndokwe, the other directors listed by the Op are all employees of the company, not shareholders.

Companies, have political figures in their boards to boost patronage.
It doesn't detract from the fact that they're offering certain services for which they're to be paid whatever was agreed on.
This our penchant for policy reversals and tyrannical directives is why foreign traders thread with caution when you're inviting them to come invest.
So even if the company had paid the money to shareholders and paid staff from the same money they must pay back.
If you feel they've done anything amiss, then ask them to come clarify the situation and if culpable, charge them to court.
At worst, jail all those who okayed the firm's proposal to the government (especially if there were other, more attractive offers which got sidelined) and should they have evidence of an "order from above", then put people concerned in the docks too.
It's quite simple actually. Then the law will be strengthened. All these shaming without investigation will not achieve anything except generate ineffective entropy in the polity.
And who knows, the motive for these publications could be aimed at raising dust to blind people.
Same way robbers spray money in a crowd when under hot pursuit by authorities.
There are constitutionally stipulated course of action for business conduct and when breached, the court is where you should head to, not a publishing house.

GEj wasn't bad as a leader, he's only being riled for trusting people too much, and that is a fault almost all true academics suffer, thinking if you're hired to do something, it's a no brainer expecting me to hound you to do that job effectively except the real world doesn't work that way.

Romans 13vs1-7

"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.”

"He who the Gods will destroy, they first make mad".

Had they been served demolition notice prior to this, then one can blame the church if they hadn't headed to court to clear up issues.

But we all know no king reigns/lives for ever, so "this too shall pass"

I expect a building of that size and nature couldn't have been erected by illiterates. So it would have building plan, C of O and other documents which must have been approved before the project commenced.

Finally Hilltop isn't the only "residential Estate" within the state, you mean none of the others have mega-structures? Are you saying that estate doesn't have clubhouses etc? What makes those ones more suited to "Residential Estates"

He shd've have held whoever approved the building plan and gave the go-ahead for the project commencement to account, and maybe advised the owners on alternative paths of action. But that's assuming there's no private interest in the matter.

Things aren't ever black or white in this country and that has been our problem since.
