PoliticsCORRUPTION SCANDAL ROCKS JONATHAN CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE by midolian(op):
The unit of the President Goodluck Jonathan campaign organisation responsible for mobilizing the civil society has been hit by a corruption scandal that has now paralysed its operations.

Members of the committee are divided over the leadership style of its chairman, Nick Eze, a professor.

They accused Mr. Eze of cornering the kick-off funds he received from the presidency and of sabotaging the entire campaign.

“As far as the presidential campaign organisation is concerned, the Civil Society committee is a fraud,” an aggrieved member told PREMIUM TIMES. “Professor Nick has abandoned his office and is now running the committee from his bedroom.”

Several members of the committee, who spoke with this newspaper, expressed frustration with Mr. Eze’s management of the committee.

“On one occasion, he called a meeting and we asked for accounts, he insulted us and said that he is a personal friend of the president and only reports to him directly,” another committee member said. “We are just committee members on paper.”

The committee is currently dormant as members appear disillusioned and too disgruntled to mobilize voters for the president.

A member of the committee, who said he stopped work since early February, claimed that highhandedness is widespread amongst other committees. He explained that the selfish interest of the committee chairman is the reason the president is going round by himself meeting with every group.

“Ordinarily, we should have done that for the president,” he said.

Mr. Eze dismissed the accusations. He said they were “unfounded” and coming from “jobless people.”

Troubled campaign

Troubles began when Mr. Eze bought a bulletproof Prado SUV, shortly after receiving the kick-off funds. Members of the committee, who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES, accused the professor of enriching himself with the funds rather than applying it to the campaigns.

They also claim that Mr. Eze cornered other cars meant for the committee and drove them down to his home in Enugu state, South East Nigeria, where he is currently hiding them. He is also accused of not letting money go round committee members and owing sitting allowances.

A committee member said Mr. Eze’s posturing is strengthening claims that the PDP is almost always about “sharing money” even if its earmarked for public good.

PREMIUM TIMES understands that the crisis in the committee peaked early February when angered committee members protested alleged claim by Mr. Eze that he had spent N100 million in organising campaign events.

Some committee members challenged the claim, saying the less than 140 attendees at the events in Abuja and Lagos were drawn locally and paid N3,000 each in stipends.

Members of the committee subsequently complained to the National Campaign Adviser, Tony Anenih.

“He refused to show up after Anenih summoned him,” a member of the committee said. “He was later forced to appear before Anenih after police officers were used to bring him in.”

Several members of the committee are now up in arms against Mr. Eze. Thursday last week, angered members of the committee planned a meeting to pass a vote of no confidence on him and demand his removal as well as a refund of all funds he had so far received.

Shortly before the meeting, Rufai Alkali, the special adviser to the president on political matters and a close friend of Mr. Eze, intervened.

The “temporary truce” was reached in Mr. Alkali’s office, members of the committee told PREMIUM TIMES.

Mr. Eze denied the meeting was over the scandal. He argued that only the chairman can summon meeting and that the absence of minutes from the Thursday meeting invalidates its existence.

“Committee members did not give me money,” he said in defence of accusations he is not accountable.

The no-confidence vote was stalled but committee members remain angered and are spoiling for fresh showdown with Mr. Eze.

The spokesperson for the Campaign, Femi Fani-Kayode, did not answer or return calls seeking his comments for this story.

PoliticsNGO Demands Full Forensic Audit Report On NNPC by midolian(op): 8:57am On Feb 24, 2015
An Uyo, Akwa Ibom State based non-governmental organisation, Policy Alert, has called on the Federal Government to release to the public the full report of the forensic audit on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) recently submitted to it by auditing firm, Price Waterhouse coopers.

In a statement by the NGO on Monday, the organisation expressed disappointment that nearly three weeks after the report was first submitted to the President by the audit firm, only a summary of highlights had so far been released to the public by the office of the Auditor General.

The statement signed by the organisation’s Head of Programmes, Tijah Bolton-Akpan, considers keeping details   of the report out of public view a denial of the public’s right to know

“The audit was commissioned in response to public demand for answers to questions bordering on the management of our national wealth. With the completion of the audit, the least we expect from government is to make the full report publicly accessible. Nigerians cannot accept anything short of full disclosure.”

The group also demanded the immediate payment of the outstanding $1.48 billion as stated in the summary report into the federation account by the NNPC and its subsidiary.

, the National Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), while insisting that officials responsible for mismanagement of transactions at NNPC must be appropriately disciplined.

The statement also called on the National Assembly to ensure that the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) is passed before the end of the present assembly, noting that “the PIB may not be a magic wand but in its current form, its provisions comprehensively address the inefficient structure and opaque management practices which have plagued the NNPC for decades”.

Even a new born knows that. He only delayed his days of sleepless nights.

Imagine if Buhari was president of Nigeria and every week he is gallivanting from NASFAT to Quareeb, from Quareeb to Ansarudeen, from there to Ahmadiyya, from there to Izala from there to the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and from there to the National Mosque in Abuja and from there to the Ilorin Central Mosque and from there to the Yobe Central Mosque and then from there to Lagos Central Mosque, then to the central mosques in Ibadan, Kano and Maiduguri then again he shells out billions of naira to imams, what would Nigerians say? What would Nigerians say if Buhari is the president now and he takes the jets of the presidential fleet to pack imams to Mecca? What would Nigerians say if Buhari was in the mosque and a grand imam from the north accuses southern tribes of being terrorists and Buhari is right there in the mosque and he says nothing? Hypocrisy has melted the brains of many in this country. Jonathan is a divisive leader using a very volatile means to push his sinister agenda. So answer me, what if Buhari was doing all this? And he makes sure the media is always covering every visit to the mosque? This same general was in Abuja some days ago for Friday prayers at Wuse, the imam did not even announce that Buhari was in the mosque and many were not aware he was in the same mosque with them. He had his prayers and left without any noise. Jonathan, I repeat, is a divisive figure and it is the actions of leaders like him that lead to catastrophic consequences. As for the hypocrites of this nation defending every stupid thing Oga Ade does because of tribe or religion, na you go tire for this one wey we start so.
YOU ARE SO ON POINT..

PDP IS DEAD AND WE KNOW THAT. WE JUST DON'T KNOW WHY THEY VE DECIDED TO POSTPONE THE BURIAL.
PoliticsJonathan Forced Election Shift, Amaechi Insists by midolian(op): 8:39am On Feb 24, 2015
Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, on Sunday, insisted that President Goodluck Jonathan forced the postponement of the general elections.

Amaechi, who was a guest on Channels Television ‘Politics Today’, alleged that Jonathan ignored the assurance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that it was ready for the elections.

The Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign explained that INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega, had earlier given assurance that it was more prepared for the general elections than it was before the 2011 general elections.

While expressing dissatisfaction at the postponement, Amaechi queried: “how will my party be happy with the postponement when Nigerians were ready for the elections and the President and the military will sit down and say, ‘no, you cannot have election on that day.’

“I hope that by March 28, they would have been able to decimate the Boko Haram; if they don’t, I hope they do not postpone the election again.”

“The election postponement is a wrong decision because 80 per cent of the persons at the Council of State meeting held in Abuja had asked the President not to ask for postponement.

“The INEC chairman made a comment that was interesting. He said, ‘if you say that the 2011 election was credible, Mr. President, I am telling you that I am more prepared now than I was in 2011’.

“If you look at now and when the election was postponed, you will see that nothing has changed, but the military had reported that it had taken back some communities in the volatile north-east under the control of the Boko Haram terrorists,” Amaechi said.

“Is the President saying that if he knew he would win the election on that day, would he have asked for postponement?

“If you like shift elections to May 29 or June 12, the truth is that Nigerians want change.

“Go to the street and hear; Nigerians want a change and the things that the APC provide are change so they want to vote for the APC.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was hoping to use the military to intermediate voters and rig the election.”

PoliticsAPC To Fayose: Focus On Governance, Not Hate Campaigns by midolian(op): 12:26am On Feb 24, 2015
All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ekiti State has advised Governor Ayodele Fayose to focus on governance of the state instead of busying himself with hate campaigns ahead of the March 28 presidential election.

APC state Publicity Secretary, Honourable Taiwo Olatunbosun, advised the governor against wasting Ekiti people’s money on campaign against its presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, including hiring agents trailing Buhari around the world, saying “it is criminal to be spending the state’s resources in furtherance of personal ambition and safety.”

Olatunbosun said in a statement in Ado Ekiti yesterday that “Governor Fayose is taking his hate campaigns against General Buhari to the level of personal agenda far and above the collective agenda of Ekiti people for good governance and development of the state.

“If Fayose had taken the issues of development seriously as he is doing in his hate campaign against Buhari, the effects could have been felt in many areas that are germane to the state’s development,” Olatubosun said.

The APC accused the governor of diverting the attention of Nigerians from his alleged fraudulent victory as revealed in the audio tape leak. It said the revelations in the tape would not be eclipsed by the governor’s anti-Buhari campaign antics, stressing that the money the governor was spending in his hate campaign could have been channeled towards productive activities for the benefit of Ekiti people.

The APC also berated the governor for lack of focus on development issues, stressing that for the past four months, he had busied himself with debts profile of the state, while not forthcoming on the balances and refunds made to the state by the Federal Government.

PoliticsMissing $20 Billion: Publish Forensic Audit Report, Buhari Tells Jonathan by midolian(op): 7:12pm On Feb 23, 2015
The All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, has challenged President Goodluck Jonathan to order the release of the full report of the audit of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, accused of diverting $20 billion oil money.

Mr. Buhari’s campaign organization, the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation, said the president should live up to his flaunted belief in the rule of law and public probity, by acceding to the request of the National Assembly to release the forensic audit by PriceWaterHouseCoopers.

Mr. Buhari said the president should also go ahead and publish same in mainstream newspapers for Nigerians to assess or query the degree of transparency involved in the controversial transaction.

“Why should the President and the PDP develop the feet of clay like an immovable Colossus when the representatives of the people in the National Assembly asked for copies of the forensic audit report, which public outcry forced the government to procure in the first place?” the statement issued by the APC campaign said.

“So many respected experts on the national economy have condemned the wanton waste of the country’s hard currency earnings at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Worse still, those in charge have treated Nigerians with impunity by hiding the facts relating to petro-dollar trade from the taxpayers. Some of them have been gallivanting and globe-trotting around the world in luxury while their compatriots languish in poverty and squalor,” the statement said.

The campaign team questioned the audacity of the President, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and NNPC in disobeying the NASS request to scrutinise the KPMG audit of an alleged grossly corrupt government agency, NNPC.

“Is the NNPC a sacred cow? And should the President be an umpire in a game to which he’s a contender, or a judge in his own case?” the statement said.

“Is the President and his Petroleum Minister telling Nigerians that no wrong has been done in terms of stealing of public funds? If corruption was established in any form, is anyone listed for punishment?

“It is pertinent to put all these information in the public domain for third party verification. The PriceWaterHouseCoopers report funded by taxpayer’s money is itself a public property. And until this is done, the NNPC under Jonathan shall remain in public consciousness the abattoir for corruption, immodesty, dishonesty and impunity.”
