OsunOriginal: The new law encourages reinvestment instead of withdrawal which is good for NGX. I see a massive growth coming over the next few years.
What encourages massive growth in investments and (economic activity generally) is freedom to deploy your funds (injections or withdrawals) however you desire and not some restrictions like the so-called new tax law is imposing. The NGX has always been growing massively over the years without these restrictions, so it is not the new tax laws (on restrictions of withdrawals) that would make it grow. Investors do withdraw funds to invest in other projects and economic activity outside the NGX.
Mirasteel: The Jews in Israel aren't real Jews, they are European Jews that UN brought to middle east after world war 2, stop this nonsense and learn the truth for once. BTW, why is Dna test banned in Israel? what are they afraid of?
This is another shameless lie that you tell to cover your evil demonic intentions when you do not have anything else to say about the land of Israel and history of the Jews So where are the "real Jews"? Tell us. So you think and want the Arabs now called "Palestinians" as the right people to inherit and take over the inheritance of the Jews, including the holy land of Jerusalem, Hebron, Schechem, Judea and Samaria and places where Jewish prophets like Joseph, Jacob, Rebecca, Leah, Isaac, Jesus Christ, John The Baptist, Zechariah etc lived and were buried? You people must be drunk! Again, DNA test is allowed in Israel. Stop the lies. What is not allowed is the commercialization of ancestry!, which perfectly correct.
kolafolabi: Every December 31st, a familiar ritual unfolds across Nigeria. Roads stay busy late into the night, churches overflow, mosques are filled, and many Nigerians make deliberate efforts to ensure they “cross over” into the New Year within a place of worship. For many, being in church or mosque as the clock strikes midnight on January 1 is seen as spiritually significant, almost compulsory.
But the question remains: does crossing over in church or mosque really matter?
For believers, crossing over is symbolic. It represents gratitude for survival through the outgoing year and hope for divine protection, favour, and guidance in the year ahead. In a country weighed down by economic hardship, insecurity, and uncertainty, faith provides comfort and reassurance.
However, spirituality should not be reduced to a single night. Faith, whether Christian or Muslim, is meant to be lived daily through integrity, discipline, compassion, and responsibility. Spending January 1 in a place of worship does not automatically guarantee success or protection, just as missing a crossover service does not condemn anyone to misfortune.
Interestingly, while Nigerians passionately debate and prioritise crossover services, major national issues often pass with little public scrutiny. From January 1, new tax policies are set to take effect, beginning with systems like the National Revenue Service (NRS). These policies will directly affect livelihoods, businesses, and household income, yet there is little public conversation, resistance, or demand for accountability.
This contrast is troubling. We are quick to defend religious practices but slow to question governance, policy decisions, and economic reforms that shape daily survival. Many who passionately fill religious centres are also victims of corruption, poor leadership, and weak institutions, yet silence prevails where collective civic action is most needed.
My take is simple: crossing over only matters when faith translates into consciousness, courage, and responsibility. Religion should not be an escape from reality or a shield for corruption. True faith should empower citizens to question injustice, demand transparency, and live ethically, both in private and in public life.
Ultimately, the New Year does not reward where you stood at midnight. It responds to awareness, preparation, and action. Whether one crosses over in a church, a mosque, at home, or at work, what truly matters is how one lives from January 1 onward.
Faith without accountability is ritual. Religion without responsibility becomes noise. Hope without action changes nothing.
Thank you.
Muslims don't believe in going to mosque to congregate, pray and cross over into a new year.
PMForce: Before Israel existed, the land was called Palestine under British rule. In 1941, even David Ben-Gurion was listed as “Palestinian” on official documents — because all residents, Jews included, held Palestinian nationality.🇵🇸✊🏻
🧾 History is clear. Archives don’t lie‼️
"Before Israel existed.."; "Israel founder Ben Gurion..in 1941". Absolute nonsense. So the land of Israel of King David and Hezekiah started existing in 1940s?. It seems you people's brains stop working when it is about Israel. So you would say Jesus was born after 1941 as Israel never existed before then because you saw a political document issued by Britain in 1941? Or who was crowned the "King of Jews" on the cross? So the migration of children of Israel to Egypt happened in 1940s? Mad people who don't think! These shows how biased, shalliow and demonic liars you people are. The term "Palestine" was used to describe the region covering the land of Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Israel when they were under the Roman empire long before each one of them became independent states on their own. Therefore the citizens of Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and Israel all used the same passport or ID card bearing the term "Palestine". But there was no separate, single, unique, identifiable, or indigineous "State of Palestine" anywhere. There is no ethnicity or tribe or nation originally called Palestinians or Palestine! It is not in the Bible, it is not in the Quran! A similar system was adopted in West Africa whereby citizens of Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia, S/Leone were given same ID cards or passports bearing "British West Africa" to show that they were colonies jointly administered under Britain at the time, long before their independence. But there was no separate, identifiable, indigineous "State of British West Africa" anywhere. There is no tribe of "British West Africa" anywhere. . It is similar to saying "" The Sahel" or "The Sahara" which covers several areas in Africa. But there is no single, indigneous "State of Sahel" or "State of Sahara" anywhere. Stop lying and deceiving yourselves. Some Arabs living on the land of Israel decided to adopt the name "Palestine" and call rhemselves " Palestinians" in order to make the presence of Israel and Israelis look illegimitate (like some of you people are doing now) so they (Arabs) can lay claim as owners of the old "Palestine" and push Israel/Israelis out of the land.
Mirasteel: Palestinians are the true semites, the Jews currently in Israel are European askenazi Jews not and some others.(Jews from other places)
Even Mileikowsky aka Satanyahu wasn't born a Jew, he converted and many others.
This shows how jealousy and hatred can make you tell naked, shameless lies. Just mention the names of Palestinians kings and queens that have ruled over the land in history if the land truly belonged to "Palestinians" as indigenous people of the land. Simple!
The statement by the Nigeria Police is a face-saving PR for Joshua. He should just be very careful with the kind of people he moves and drives around with. And when he is driving or traveling long distance on the expressway, he should move with at least one security escort vehicle which would be ahead of his vehicle. Tbis would help minimize the possibility of overspeeding and road crashes like this.
Zenith bank forward PE 2.53 Expected Return on Equity 21.53% Q3 Net profit margin 22.65%
Eco-bank Transnational Forward PE 1.59 Expected Return on Equity : 25.82% Q3 Net profit margin: 19.86
Now I dare anyone to find a listed company outside the banking sector that has similar profit margins and return on equity that is trading at similar earnings multiples.
Banking sector is grossly under priced relative to the market.
I have asked questions from other investors as to why they think this is the case and I am yet to hear any valid reason.
So yes, a repricing is necessary. Either the general market falls or the banking sector rises. The status quo makes no sense.
P.S I have one more investment to make in the banking sector in the first half of January but aside from that I am invested in the two stocks mentioned and as such you can look at it as me trying to sell my market.
As per banks being relatively underpriced, I think it is partly because most investors are still wary that the performance and returns of the banks can be easily affected or influenced (negatively) by CBN policies and regulations which make them ''relatively riskier'' compared to other less regulated sectors. A good example is how the CBN/FG unilaterally took 70% of forex gain of banks in FY2023.
Agbalowomeri: NGXBNK rose from 350+ to over 1500 within 2-3 years. Which other repricing are you hoping for? Now na fundamentals and dividend go determine price for banks
If you consider factors like inflation, TVM, exchange rate, valuation metrics, etc. from 2023 to date, you would realize that some assets are not sufficiently repriced, apart from fundamentals
A serious road accident occurred today, December 30, 2025, at the notorious Sapele Road Bypass in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. In this footage, witness the chaotic aftermath as a massive heavy-duty truck (trailer/tanker) lies overturned on the badly deteriorated dirt road filled with deep potholes and rough terrain. An excavator is actively working to lift and recover the flipped vehicle amid a large crowd of concerned onlookers, helpers, and motorists. The poor state of the road – a long-standing "death trap" plagued by neglect, potholes, and ongoing reconstruction delays – is clearly visible and widely blamed for contributing to this incident. Heavy vehicles often struggle here, leading to frequent accidents, especially during the festive season. Thankfully, no confirmed casualties reported in this specific crash, but it highlights the urgent need for proper road repairs to prevent more tragedies. Lord have mercy 🙏 Pray for the safety of all road users in Edo State.
We have roads like this that require urgent repairs and reconstruction for immediate use, but the Tinubu govt prefers to spent trillions on naira on Lagos-Calabar expressway that would take several years to complete
A country with citizens that are known worldwide to be lawless with criminal tendency to a very large extent. Instead focusing on reorientation of the citizens for better civic behaviour, and infrastructure development, they are deceiving themselves with things like ''Detty December'' just because of the jealousy that Ghana is doing it and they seem to be trending among the diaspora Africans in US, Europe and beyond,
PinkStarsFallIn: I wish to Lock 6M naira to compound for atleast 5years. Should I do piggy vest or what?
Just be patient and wait until next year when Dangote issues the IPO for purchase of shares in Dangote Oil Refinery. That our money will multiply by 3-4 times or more in 5 years!
Lol. Ghana and Nigeria have a long history together. Ghana is also where Nigerian musicians get some very good inspiration and ideas in music, and then we use our population numbers and economic power to push it farther. Fela travelled and lived in Ghana 1967-69 where he joined a band called Hedzolleh and learned the style of music called Afrobeat. But most Nigerians do not know these facts. Detty December also started and originated in Ghana, before Nigeria joined the fray
What kind of people is Anthony Joshua moving around with in Nigeria? He should be careful. His career and life can be destroyed by the people he mingles with here in Nigeria. Why would the driver drive at such speed to the extent of having a head-on collision with another vehicle when a star like Joshua is inside the car?
Dbestbrest: Ghana did not create it, how would they know that 'Detty' means "Developed Entertainment To Treat You" joyously in December. Make dem park for one corner jare. Ghanaians like trolling unnecessarily
Stop the lies! It is fact and truth that Ghana created ''Detty December''. Nigerian entertainment and event organizers who have been flocking into Ghana just copied the theme Detty December from Ghana.
But where in Nigeria is the 24/7 electricity, all-round taxi transport services during midnight, the sense of security, freedom of movement in the middle of the night etc. that make ''Detty December'' a huge success in Ghana? Nigeria usually feels jealous when Ghana creates or achieves something and it is trending globally. Obama visited Ghana in 2008 and it was a very big issue in Nigeria.
Firstcitizen: Ghanaians cannot take the fact that Detty Decemberis a term now strongly associated with Nigeria rather than Ghana and makes the one in Ghana look laughable so they wanna change the name quickly.
We Nigerians should be more concerned about how we like to copy or steal an idea from somewhere else but don't want to acknowledge and say the truth that we copied it from somewhere. When you that, people call you ''thief'' and it is shameful. But we are becoming increasingly shameless in hundreds of millions in population so we dont care even when they call us ''thieves''
SonofElElyonRet: I understand it was after joint reconciliation. Some verified debts remaining
Writing off debts probably arising from corrupt deals of govt/NNPC officials, which should ordinarily be investigated and prosecuted for deterrence and accountability. But rather, asking poor citizens to pay more taxes so that more could be looted again and another debt-write off comes up.
Vendor127001: Scenes from the #EyoFestival2025 flood the internet as the festival is celebrated all over Lagos state, a particular area had thugs chasing after festival people, the aftermath was a guy from brandishing a weapon, this violence is the reason Eyo festival was cancelled temporarily.
This is part of the ''Detty December'' that Nigeria is desperately dragging with Ghana. No electricity, no 24/7 taxi transport services available, insecurity persists, lawless citizens, no credible elections....but they are deceiving themselves with ''Detty December'' that started and originated in Ghana. Misguided people
chimex38: Taxes are there, but demand and supply are underestimated.
The airlines are given tax as excuses as reason for the increase. I am merely condeming them as the tax is just a front. I think The major driver is demand and supply for local flights this festive season.. -Flight seats get filled up days ahead -many states still depend on other states for air port both land and take off. -some states airport can't accommodate night travels. -we seem to have more Non-sale functional airports than planes. -security issue in the country is another issue.
That's why I said, demand and supply fuels it more this season than tax.
I saw a text somewhere where someone said: its better he borrows money and pays his own ransom by purchasing flight tickets to and fro for himself and his family than to risk such on road transport with kidnappers.
The odds are, no matter the cost of flight, it will be cheaper than the cost of ransom
LegendHero: Atiku should stop disturbing sane minds.
Tax reform takes effect by January 1st. All this noise on social media is wasting of productive time.
This is how the govt feeds on people's ignorance! The govt should do the needful before some people go to court and the whole tax laws are declared null and void because of this alteration in the gazette
