olaremint: I think the stock exchange should make a rule that the percentage charged should be based on profit or loss and not on the capital invested Lol! Have you forgotten that there are various stakeholders in the market who rely on the fees for their operations e.g. brokers, NGX etc ? They ill not survive if fees are based on gains alone. Some components of the fee are statutory and fixed, others vary and depend on the broker. Check for the acceptable variable fees and register with them. |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by mikeapollo: 12:58pm On Jul 21, 2025 |
olaremint: imagine gaining just 300k on a stock and you want to sell and their charges is more than 300k. It depends. The brokerage fee is based on the total sales value of what you want to sell, and not what you have gained. That is why you have to consider the gains, the value of the shares and fees payable before you decide on selling or holding. For instance, if your shares/portfolio is worth N70m and your gain is only N1m, the fee will be based on the N70m that you want to sell (or a portion thereof), which may produce a figure higher than the gain of N1m. That is why some people wait for the share price to go higher before they sell so that their profit will be higher than the fees, or you sell and incur the cost/loss like that. |

BabsO2: From the picture attachment by Bagwa, converting $300m into shares is also on the table.
It is clearly stated that the price to be used will be determined through book building and other means.
It can be safely assumed only 10 billion new shares will be issued even if $300m of debt is converted into shares along with a fresh N500 billion being raised. This could imply a price of N100 possible if supported by the book building or other valuation method used. Think N50 is damn too low for use. It won’t be the smartest thing to do. Look at UBA they know the market is depressed or fearful in valuations and won’t do rights on just any low price
I think N50 is damn low Another clever, plausible perspective |

Mpeace: They are also converting $300million debt to equity. That's another 10billion shares. Well, you may have a point and it seems so on the surface. But if you consider the fact that the 10billion shares has been mentioned as the specific or total number of shares to be created/allotted (unless over/under subscribed), then it means that the shares will be used to settle the $300m debt. The Share capital will increase/rise by N500b and Loans will decrease by $300m (approximately N500b). They only need to sign Debt-Equity Conversion Agreement with the creditors and file at SEC/CAC/Court but there would be no payment or receipt of cash. The real fresh injection of funds will come from the $1.5billion to be raised by bonds, and various instruments etc I may be wrong though, just my own assumptions |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by mikeapollo: 12:23pm On Jul 21, 2025 |
BabsO2: Has the price for the capital raise or debt conversion been determined and stated or you are just making assumptions that N50 per share will be used? They want to raise N500b through the issuance of 10billion shares. My calculation gives me N50 per share, unless I am mistaken. |

pluto09: This is what Emma has been saying all along. OandO needs new capital injection if they must survive. Most people here knew that Oando needed/needs to raise capital to be able to generate better returns and value to shareholders. Some of us were/are optimistic that the company would rectify some of its liquidity problems and improve going forward, because no business owner would deliberately fold his arms and watch a big business fold up. But some people were stuck with their experience in the past and completely wrote off Oando, claiming it would not survive because the auditors wrote a damning qualified opinion on the going concern prospects of the company. We kept repeating that no company in the upstream sector has ever collapsed due to insolvency and that Oando has reserves that can generate net cashflow in excess of $11b. Meanwhile, I am suspecting the 10billion new shares (N500bn) will be used to settle the $300m RBL facility. |

OoDeeA: If wale releases his bonus shares, what will likely be the effect in the market? The possible effect would depend on how/when he releases the shares. There could be a jump in price if the bonus shares are released at a time that coincides with an overriding positive news in the market (e.g. very good financial results, acquisition of new oil blocks, special dividend, etc.). The opposite could be the case if there is no positive news to sustain the price, so the law of demand and supply would set in and drag the price down. |

Raider76: Imho it has become clear to Oando that that TT refinery is not going to happen. I think they also see that TT politics and society are just as complicated as the Nigerian scene. So they want to take the bull by the horns and go for the Nigerian refineries. After all, Oando has owned and operated Nigerian onshore upstream assets for years now. They have mastered the terrain and know how to survive in that environment. That is why in the last month or so, many stakeholder groups were mobilized to call for the sale of the Nigerian refineries. This included the NNPC leadership itself finally saying that they have a review committee working that will report before December and that the sale of the refineries could be an option.
This is just my synthesis of what I observed happening on the issue. To me, the Nigerian refineries would be poison to Oando. They will incur losses upon losses in order to reactivate and resuscitate the refineries. And they cannot even compete with Dangote refinery which is brand new, more efficient and already dominating the entire value chain . |

agentNija: Awolowo is a legend, just like Peter Obi. Both are legends. Comparing and measuring Obafemi Awolowo with Peter Obi can only be influenced by total ignorance, drunkenness or dementia. Awolowo brought the first television station to Nigeria and Africa. He also brought free education to Western Nigeria and so many mid-westerners (Delta-Edo) and easterners living in the Western region benefitted free of charge. |

ndept: The guy can never change. That was the way he made some people to miss out on Oando largesse, just to come to the same platform and start defending same Oando months later after he has bought large quantity. I believe he has made some people to also miss out on Ellah rally too. We are not saying you cannot criticize any stock, but do it with some sense of decency and maturity. Emmanuelewumi is a good example to follow when it comes to constructive criticisms. For God's sake, I cannot understand why a calm, gentle, easy-going, ever-friendly, professional minded person, an ''angel'' like Megawealth01 should be dragged in this forum, for any reason. Incidentally, he has been giving a lot of good stocks picks recently and this is when this kind of unnecessary squabbles is happening. The fact that you read an article or write up first posted by a moniker on this platform does not necessarily mean that such moniker is the original owner of such article. Sometimes impostors are faster than the genuine owners. We are here to seek ideas and knowledge from each other to help us make money. Constructive criticisms of stocks is welcome. Let us know the limits of how we react to each other's opinions as no opinion is binding on anyone to listen to or accept but let us do it in a civil manner. No name calling, no vulgar or derogatory language on persons. Megawealth01 is an asset in this forum, like many others too. |

KarlTom: Let me burst your bubble on DEAPCAP
1. They have a debt of ₦2.525 billion (non-bank creditors) which will be converted to equity at ₦1.69. 2. They have another debt of about ₦1.58 billion resulting from AMCON bailing them out of bad loans (this has not been mentioned so far). 3. The deferred income has been received in advance so it increases their liability (until the goods/service is rendered).
Every mallam to his kettle... How would you burst my bubble when the items you listed are steps being taken to improve the fortunes and balance sheet of the company? If you (as MD) had a deferred/unearned income of N1.5b, you would do everything to move it from liability to earned income by expediting delivery of the required goods/services. The obligation to perform is usually within a year so th valu will gradually transit from liability to sales in the coming months. |
