Walllee:Which ''ancestral land'' are you talking about? Who is the real owner of Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria etc? |
Dvdpity:Exactly! But some tribal and political bigots are supporting him blindly. |
Walker001:The nepotistic appointments of Tinubu is just disgusting. Seems to be even worse than what Buhari did. Giving virtually all top positions to Yoruba is just not good optics. Every nepotistic government in history has been a failure, even if they started well. The failure of Tinubu's govt would have a bad consequence for the political fortunes of Yoruba people, if care is not taken. |
Agbalowomeri:Let's stop the exaggeration and empty boastful talks The US had been built by some other race before Nigerians flocking there going there for greener pastures. Where do you put the Jews, Asians, Indians etc. that had been achieving back-to-back landmark success in US? |
KarlTom:That is how the NNPC (and govt agencies) tell blunt lies. When did IPO become selling of shares to only institutional investors? A corrupted govt and its agencies at work. They just want to sell the shares to themselves and cronies. |
porthouse7:How did you know he speaks Yoruba? Have you heard or listened to him speak? |
toyeoye:Only minority percentage will be sold to the public. FGN will still retain controlling interest in NNPC as cash cow for govt. |
carfanzy:provide real photos of actual work done by you |
PETERiCHY:The baddest bargain hunter is back. Once a bargain hunter, always a bargain hunter. I recall how great champions e.g. Mohammed Ali, George Foreman, Tyson etc. came out of retirement because of the mullah! You made similar calls on other stocks and all turned out positive What is happening to Access looks similar to what happened to GT about 2 - 3 years ago when it was selling at N17 |
OkCornel:Oando bought Connocco Phillips for USD1.5b in 2014! And its share price rose to about N200 (i.e. N2 trillion market value). Was that in Tinubu's administration too? Jonathan was President in 2014. Don't develop headache because of the market value of a company. It is no big deal, unless you want to buy the company. Try and read about some of these things. Many politically biased or ignorant journalists and writers say these things to deceive and take advantage of the ignorance of the people. But I agree that Tinubu's govt has been very very poor, so terrible in governance and economic management |
OkCornel:You can only appreciate if you understand how the stocks market works. Dont kill or worry yourselves about the market value of a company because of politics. It makes no sense. Market value of a company equals the number of issued shares multiplied by the unit price on the stock market. The price on the stock market is determined by forces of supply and demand based on the perception of buyers and sellers in the market. The perception is usually influenced by good news, current performance and perceived future prospects of the company (e.g. if price of crude oil is very high). Hence, a company's share price can increase astronomically just because investors believe or hope that the company will do well in the nearest future. And there are several examples in the stocks market. Oando has 12.43billion shares. It was selling at around N5 per unit around 2022/2023 (i.e. N70bn market value). The price jumped to above N80 around September 2024 (i.e. over 1 trillion market value) when it acquired NOAC. The same price has now fallen to about N50 currently (i.e. N700b market value). The price can even fall to N30/N20 in future which will make the market value to go lower or it may also rise to N100 or N200 which make the market value to jump to N2trillion or more. For instance, a serious war in Iran or Iraq will make the price of crude oil to rise and this can make the share price of an oil company like Oando to go up because investors believe it would make more profit. If it does not make the expected profit, the share price will fall again. It is a zig-zag think. Market value is not guaranteed for anything Oando's market value also jumped to more than N1trillion when it acquired ConnoccoPhillips for USD1.5billion in 2014 and the share was selling for more than N100 at a time. But the price later went down when it started having problems due to fall in the price of crude oil. |
tundegan:Okay, I have a prayer for you. May your life and everything associated with you turn out to be like the way Tinubu has governed Nigeria. Say Amen, bro. |
OkCornel:It is my view that Tinubu is a failure, but don't mix his poor performance with the value of a company listed on the stocks market. Do you understand how the stocks market works? It is the traders (buyers and sellers) in the stocks market that determine the quoted value of a company; it is not something that is determined by a president. By the way Oando's current value as at today 26-Mar-2025 is about N700b. It has dropped from N1trillion since late 2024. Who would you blame for that? |
NewDigitalWorld:I like the fact that Asari Dokubo has come out plain to explain his stance. It is better than keeping silent and pretending. It is now up to the public or interested parties to know what to expect or how to engage him in matters concerning the performance and actions of Tinubu govt. |
Sunnyshinylight:Very bogus statement. What is their definition of "within a reasonable timeframe"? |
Emeskhalifa:Because one useless MD of NMDPRA came out to tell lies that the products from Dangote refinery are substandard in quality. So this kind of news is good to shame someone like that and to set the records straight |
zendi:Why base your argument on Japan that does not have crude oil? Very funny analogy. Why not members of OPEC?. Do Saudi Arabia, Libya, Iran, Venezuela etc sell crude to their local refineries in dollars ? Again, Japan is not as import dependent as Nigeria, hence the Yen currency has relatively stable exchange rate against the dollar. So buying crude in dollars may not distort or dedtabilize the Japanese economy so much. Do you know the trade balance of Japan? Japan is heavy on exports. Nigeria is different; a struggling developing country with industries struggling for energy . It has very huge import dependence which works to weaken the local currency. Therefore buying crude in dollars in Nigeria would automatically create inflationary pressure in the economy because the dollar is always rising against the naira. It would also encourage round tripping and manipulation in the dollar FX market. One good way to make your economy strong and insulate it from uncertainties and fluctuations in the global market economy is to create value locally and ensure trade in the local economy is conducted in local currency. That is why all countries trade in their local currency in the local economy . Same reason Russia insisted that Europe must pay for it's oil and gas in the Russian currency in order to protect and insulate the Russian economy from the Western banking system which can me manipulated to frustrate or work against any country. Trading local crude oil in dollars in Ngeria will be a straight forward way to further destroy the Nigerian economy. Economic and national development is more about creating/adding value locally and insulating your economy ftom external shocks, more than just receiving dollars which encourages rent seeking in the long run. |
Danwakae:Ghana qualified against Nigeria at the Abuja stadium, not Akwa Ibom. |
jamafa:No, I am really from ''outer space'' part of the country. Very silly stereotyping of people with differing opinions |
Car321:I think it must be yellow card in 2 consecutive matches. Match Day 1 and Match Day 4 are not consecutive matches. Be prepared to play and win on the field of play. No back door points to qualify for the WC. If you are knocked out of the qualifiers, you come sit at home and watch others play. The WC is nobody's birth right! |
Botragelad:Only a minority few understand and know that fact that you just analysed. Palestine (and so called Palestinians) is a fictitious name created after the advent of the Roman empire in the land of Israel, Lebanon and Syria. The Arabs on the land of Israel adopted the word or name "Palestine"/"Palestinians" , to give the impression that they belong to the land. The land belongs to Israel, simple. There is no place like Palestine mentioned in the Bible and the Koran. But Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, are all mentioned in both books which are the oldest and most authentic reference to validate the existence of theses lands and the people. |
Max24:Loud Ignorance, sycophancy and bootlicking at work! |
tamonokare:This is evidence that the so-called Supreme Court judgement was a deliberate, orchestrated and manipulated to frustrate Fubara. Why release the funds now? Are the local government elections now held? Why not release the funds to Fubara if you can release it to the Sole Administrator? So what happens when Fubara returns in 6 months; will they withdraw the funds again? |
Mariangeles:The black shades/spots are too many |
megawealth01: ![]() You just know how to lay ambush for hidden, goldmine stocks! Why do you like to ''kidnap'' stocks like this? Now, you have ''kidnapped'' Mutual Benefits. Unity Bank is next |
seanwilliam:Some guide: 1. start developing interest in financial and stock market news about sectors in the economy, listed companies etc. 2. have it in your mind that the stocks market is a long term project; it is not a cash and carry thing. it is not kalokalo 3. start gradually, first with funds that you can afford to set aside for long period or you can afford to lose, (in the worst case scenario) 4. as you gather experience and build confidence, you can go for bigger funds and invest in your choice of stocks 5. the stocks market is dynamic; it does not move upward or downward or in a straight line for ever. It responds to news, events and performance of the company; hence you have to monitor your investment portfolio and news/events that may affect it. 6. as you build your portfolio, you may to decide which stocks you buy (and at what price) for speculative trading, and the ones you buy and hold as investment into the future (e.g. for receiving consistent dividends when you retirement etc.), or both 7. there are many more which I may not be able to say for now. Fortunately enough, there are expert gurus on this platform. Just follow their discussions regularly; you will learn and know more and better than myself. 8. best of luck |
Raider76:Why private placement again when the public offer was oversubscribed? Why not a rights issue so that all shareholders would have equal opportunity to buy the shares? This is one of the controversies rocking FBN because people allege that Otedola wants to use the private placement as back door to acquire more stake in the bank to the exclusion of other stakeholders |
Raider76:Thanks. I think Unity Bank and Mutual Benefits should be watched closely as the suspension on both may be lifted soon. |
GeneralDae:Trading and conducting local businesses in forex is one sure way to encourage roundtripping, manipulate forex, possible capital flight and bastardize an economy. Trade in your local currency and make it desirable and attractive to big businesses; that is what would strengthen it. When you visit all the nations that have developed in recent times (in Asia, Europe, etc.) they all trade in their local currency; no serious country allows local trade to be conducted in foreign currency. It destroys an economy |
madridguy:This is how low some Nigerians think! That is why the country is the way it is! |
43Ronin:Tinubu has messed up big time and is a failure as far as governing Nigeria is concerned. But don't mix lies with facts. Oando acquired US oil company Connocco Philips for $1.5b in 2014. Was it Tinubu that acquired that too? Everything that Oando does cannot just be linked to Tinubu simply because his nephew is the CEO of Oando |
GeneralDae:Serious economic and national development is not all about exporting minerals in crude or raw form for dollars, in the name of rent seeking. What about refining locally and being self sufficient in the petroleum products that we consume locally? Potential benefits from the multiplier effect of local refining and being self sufficient are much bigger than just receiving dollars for raw crude; the dollars may even be looted again. |
