Nair
alanders are mostly informed, not easily swayed and far from gullible well that has always been my general view until this moment.
Aisha2, makes a claim unsubstantiated not corroborated by anyone else but herself, I am not in Nigeria. 391,713 nairalanders and only Aisha heard it no one else heard this broadcast, the probability of that happening in 9ja leaves me very skeptical.

Ibime you sharp, I’ve seen a few of your posts I can’t believe you can join this band wagon. Like sheep no questions asked we have all jumped on this train and we don’t where it’s come from.

Simply put I doubt the authenticity of this claim, went through Brilla FM on line found nothing. I would have to rely on aisha2’s version to condemn Joseph, without the full interview I do not know what context the alleged, supposed statement was made.

Maybe if we all get really wound up, I will give Joe a call and ask him myself. Nuff Said

@komekn
Don't even bother to call your guy joe, Aisha got that one spot on. I just checked with  a friensd of mine an avid listener of BRILLA It was first on air at Brilla yesterday evening and was replayed this morning. It was the same broadcast where I heard the Mozambican coach has vowed to give the Tunisians "a run for their money"(paraphrased).

So , are we still mostly informed or not? cheesy grin cheesy

I don't blame Yobo or any of the super eagles players. Personally, these players are good individually. If you watch their club matches, you will find out that they are good. What is really lacking is commitment to Nigeria. Talking about commitment, who would be committed to Nigeria when they look at how the country treated heros like Sam Okwaraji. They are just there for their money. See the commitment they put in the Clubs and you will scream. I blame the  Coach of the Super (*EAGLES*) chickens, sorry Super vultures Amodu Shuaibu who does not know shit about coaching and his full of shit technical team. Damn, i feel like stoning him with a bottle.
What was the tactics he adopted? None. The first match with Mozambique, he features five (5) strikers in one match, Shooo. We lost 2 - 0 if not that the referee disallow legitimate goals. The second one against Kenya was a lucky one. The first leg against tunisia in Tunis was a lucky draw. See, no tactics.
This brings me to conclusion, if teacher say 1 + 1 = 3, you write 1 + 1=3 in exam, you go fail. Amodu taught the Super Eagles 1 + 1 = 3. So the result is what we have today.

Sack AMODU and bring in a foreign coach, that is the solution. England has the best league in the world yet their present coach is a foreigner. Ericsson (hope this spelling is correct) was also a foreigner. The entire NFF should also be sacked, fired, dismissed, terminated.
I am very angry. Frank Oliseh in his days at Newsline said " if you take away football from Nigerians, we would be left with one thing, POVERTY". See,how Amodu has impoverished the entire nation.
@SPyker
While I sympathise with us as a nation for this devastating draw (I almost said a loss, that's what's been in my head since the los, draw), want to say that Players and Coach should take some measure of responsibility. I was glad when I head Amodu speaking  on Brilla FM this morning. He did not pass the bulk. He actually hinted His players in the dressing room that people will come down on them. That shows how well awre He is of the outcome of last Sunday's match.
My point in all of these reaction is that, I still do not think Sacking Amodu NOW is the Solution to the quagmire we have found ourselves for the following reasons:

1. Amodu did His coaching to the best of His Knowledge(obviously not good enough and this fellow I don't think has any international training or clinic in a renowed institution as a coach). IMO I don't expect Amodu to be the 12th player on the pitch and with two minutes to the end of the match what else can a coach do, call for a time-out as in B/ball.No! You said it yourself these boys are professionals and should have known at least from one experience that it's not over until it's all over. They lost concentration which I suppose is the point Yobo was trying to make(though not well articulated).

2. We have a fundamental Problem in Nigeria with Managing Success (I think this is largely cultural) at least I can humly submit that I have seen a few western and Asian cultures while in my sorjourn here in the U.S. e, g REMEMBER IN 1994 world cup, we were leading, i think Italy then coached by Arigo Sacchi and a few minutes away from wining, I heard Westerhoff signaling the guys to play the ball to the crowd or at least keep the ball. We started dilly dallying again and a lame ice packed fellow(baggio or so) took the ball and they scored.Finito they won, a match we had in our kitty.

3. We Obviously had a paid sport Psychologist in that team who should have been assisting to read the game that had some of us on the edge of our couches until , but we did not feel their impact. As you know in a games like this on home ground, the coach will be under enomous pressure. See na Amodu has grown lean overnight not from training but from pulling His hair over this match I suppose.

4. Sack Amodu and bring in a foreign coach? Haba brother! Check the amount of foreign coaches wey we don sack nah. What foreign coach is there to work any miracle at this stage that you know will take the risk to come and coach us.

5. And I beg the sven Goran Erricson wey you mention na sack wey England still sack am. These guys are even way up there, not in the league of Amodu I agree but is that the solution or we need to re-organise our football house, get to the root of our problems and chart a way forward for the remaining two matches.
There has been several permutations by NL pundits but me think the easiest one is that we MUST win our remaining matches with scoreline of at least 3 to 4 goals and hope that Mozambique or kenya holds the Carthage eagles(they are the real eagles for now) to a goaless draw in any of their remainig matches and we can then edge them off with goal difference, if not no way my brethren.
SportsRe: It's The Fault Of The Fans We Lost: Joseph Yobo by mikeoscar: 12:56pm On Sep 08, 2009
Yobo is a buffoon. Captain wey no fit organise him defence.
From the 14 players who played yesterday, the only players that we should keep going forward are:

Enyeama
Adeleye
Adefemi
Taiwo (as 2nd choice left back)
Ike Uche
Obasi
Nsofor
Osaze
No one else from that team should smell Super Eagles squad ever again.

RomanceRe: Co Habitation Vs Dating Married Man by mikeoscar: 10:30pm On Aug 28, 2009
@Dasarge

Reading your post, I get the feeling that you think we have a more urgent need to deal with poverty than deal with the issues of Adultery and Fornication. These two you make light of by citing the instances you gave above (you already have a good response from one lady on Clinton and some British politician) are even weightier than you think. Read Amammat's second post on the myth of co-habitation (though rather very long) and you will understand the danger of co-habitation. The term co-habitation between male and females when used in a conversation almost always comes across as people violating themselves. I am proud of most of the young ladies that have re-acted to this post , their stand on the issue not to mingle before marriage should be openly commended. By the way Adultery or fornication is sin in the sight of God and Man. You cannot claim Poverty is more urgent than sins that have wrecked marriages, nations,  health and self esteem  of individuals in a hurry. Co-habitation is morally wrong and it takes away the juice in a relationship. The consequences  are so grave they can leave the individuals emotionally and psychologically wrecked for life! Let me ask you, honestly speaking, if you had a sister(or if you have) will you encourage them to co-habit with a guy, will you rather some guy wakes up one day and say, "you know what, i am done with you and this is leading us no where". My take is don't start what you can't finish. Don't pop it till marriage. In that case you still be pleasing God, have you dignity and self esteem intact and even earn the respect of the guy/gurl.

4get BBC report, when they were stealing from us and giving us Bibles, were they any wiser?
Did you just say BBC stole from you. When has BBC become GB. It's just like you saying because you disagree with the reporting style of FRCN or NTA so the entire Nation of Nigeria is now culpable or guilty of a media crime wink.

On the other hand, if BBC stole from you and gave you Bibles in exchange then you were INDEED wiser because you got a mighty  good deal. As the Bible is a PRICE-LESS ASSET and has saved many including myself who were on our way to Hell  until we received Christ through the preaching of the Bible.

The flip side is that if you have no value for the Bible and BBC had no Value for the Bible  as well then you lost what they stole from you  and they also lost out on the Bible because if they really read it and applied every word of it then they won't "steal from you".

Seriously speaking now, I don't think it's the same people that stole from you that gave you the Bible though. Those who stole from you and are still stealing from you are here with you and I. Our Kit and Kin in Agbada and Uniforms. They just keep recycling themselves my brother. Let's pray for a better Nigeria. But Back to the thread. It is wrong to start Judging Mrs Ibru and the rest of the accused Bank Chiefs without giving them a fair hearing.

Quote from: Gentlelady on Yesterday at 02:04:37 PM
What are your major strengths and weaknesses?
Make your personal strengths count and talk about your weakness and let them know what you are doing about it.  For example my strength is my ability to learn fast and excellent memory while my weakness is delegation.  I always want
to do things myself to be sure it is done well.  I am conquering that by training my subordinates and giving tasks ahead of deadline so I can cross check before final input is given out.
This one right here is really tricky. . . .
It is imperative to turn the table with the "weaknesses" by talking about how you can turn or what you have done to turn them into a "strenght"
That is where most people stumble!
Highlighting loads of weaknesses can ruin things for an interview candidate at times
And the Interviewers wont expect you not to have one or two or more "weaknesses" so be careful and dont claim "you dont have any"

@Eleshin:
onosode is mad for saying negotiation will continue only if ASUU call off strike, yar'adua is mentally demented for allowing such backlash in the educational sector, egwu is crazy for allowing ASUU to go on strike in the first place.its quite obvious that we nigerian students will continue to surffer the ruling of these demons that parade themselves as our leader in this 4king country.infact its only GOD that can help us out.
Mr brother, I have read the post thrice and I did not see anything to indicate that Mr Onosode said or implied the condition to ASUU above. But rather He was reported/quoted to have said:

He said that Mr. Onosode, had on behalf of the Federal Government, terminated the negotiations on July 10, 2009, saying, “everything else he has done on behalf of his principals is a charade. He cannot honestly claim that negotiation has been going on up to August, contrary to his declaration of July 10th.”
The last time I checked, a few synonyms for word Charade will be Pretence, farce, sham,Travesty, make-believe etc You most definitely don't use those words to those in the "opposition" if you represent a party, in otherwords, He himself was acknowledging that government had mis-led him and others representing government.
Besides let me tell you my dear, Mr Gamaliel Onosode is a gentleman, a true statesman, fears God and has worked his way up by the grace of God and hard work. I happen to know him from close quarter to be non-compromising and to be very thorough. If you want to run a check before you respond to my thread you may even ask some elderly people around about my claims.

I agree that the government can pick a good man to represent them with a view to douse the quagmire but if the person(s) have integrity and they smell a rat, they will simply refuse to "play ball". I belief Mr Onosode may end-up backing out of the government representation in protest if there are any shoddy deals ongoing.

Lastly, I want to advise you to tone-down,  try and avoid swear words, curse words or loose statements. As student we expect more caution from you because you are our future. Nobody I have spoken to is happy about the situation but you can at least re-act to the issues without resorting to swearing and cursing out these men in your thread. We all hope the matter is quickly resloved so you boys and girls can return to school. God bless you.
PoliticsRe: Military Set To Retire Over 1000 Officers by mikeoscar: 12:52pm On Aug 12, 2009
@Frankkky
this is so sad,but i am sure those officers knew what they were getting into when they joined the military as short service commission so no sentiments i beg,i now understand that the regulars in the military are the real deal in the military cos they spent 5 years in the NDA,so anybody who joins from the backyard should expect things like these
My brother, first and foremost SSC is NOT a back door affairgrin.

There are actually policies guiding both commisions(RC and SSC). So 5 yrs in NDA is really not the criteria as you would have seen in most post in this thread. You also need to understand that most SSC officers joined as graduates with degrees in Engineering, Law, Medicine, Pharmacy, Pol Science, etc from the University and polytechnic respectively. Others Join with either a first or Higher degrees as DIRECT SERVICE COMMISIONED OFFICERS.The Army is a very regimented sector and I tell you all the SSC officers are well aquainted with what they are going into within their 9-months training at the NDA before they are commisioned.

There are also a few non-commisioned officers who have served over a period of 10 years or more who get CONVERTED into SSC. In most cases some of these officers started as career service men from Military School Zaria and then worked their ways to earn a degree in the poly or University and then qualify through internal process to get commisioned. Looking at the 3  levels of commision listed above you don't definitely expect them to apply the same retirement policy across board(I am not making a case for the post though)

You must understand that most graduates have taken jobs in the military and the police either because they like the visibility or they are generally passionate about serving their country or because that was what was available at the time. Job opportunities in Nigeria are not easy to come-by when you think of how many graduates are churned out of our universities yearly.

I heard somebody say the SSC guys in question here should take the retirement and go set-up a security outfithuh? there are quite a lot of circular jobs these guys can do(with their level of certification and experience) if they are eventually relieved from the Army. I personally served five years in the Navy as regular commisioned officer after graduation from the Academy and opted to out for personal reasons. I now work in the Oil and Gas sector as an Offshore Engineer in the Gulf of Mexico.

PoliticsRe: Boko Haram Suspected Financier Executed - Which Way Nigeria by mikeoscar: 5:43am On Aug 02, 2009
I have followed several argument for and against the Killing of Boko Haram leader and the supposed sponsor. While I agree that  our reaction may be based on personal experiences, Personal conviction, academic position, political persuasions etc . I don't think most of us are really feeling the pulse of those caught in the very heat of the crisis and those who may have lost some police, military or civilian relative (working for government or caught in the cross-fire) when those Boko Haramites decided to draw first blood. Read the post from Xvalier again and a few post from others and you will know that it was a real traumatic moment for those who saw the battles first hand in all the states involved.

Agreed I don't support  anybody killed in any situation(if that were possible) but my guy  Nex, Richyblack and a few supporters of legal/fair  justice, in this situation you need to understand the rules of engagement. You don't go after state police or military anywhere in the world with the sole aim of killing and whipping them out and be talking about disproportionate force or ideal jurisprudence. This is where I also pitch with SOME views expressed by Lonewolf and a few others. If you also read carefully, you will understand that the Police especially have suffered a few casualties in the course of Yusuf's men launching an attack and in the course of reprisals by the police who were acting under law to defend people, property and re-establish law and order. There's bond to be some burst of emotion also if you look around as a military or para-military officer and your colleague of many years has been cut down by Islamic militants and you get the chance to fight for him you might do same. Plus if the police had been on the defensive or responded with kid gloves as has been the case when they got spot-on intelligence and didn't re-act by arresting or closing them down then some of us will still be blaming them.

Let's also remember that we are a circular state. The issue here is that some bunch want us to all go back to travelling bare-footed from Ondo state to Maiduguri or kano to trade cocoa for peanuts or to row canoe from Nembe to Protharcourt water-side to trade fish for okrika(hand me down garments). Plustrying to impose Sharia across 36 states. We are still a very fragile nation with all its attendant problem and more recently the problems from 1999 till date. Government cannot continue to play ostrich or political correctness now, the burden of governance sometimes is not something some of us can imagine. Let's thank God and pray that militants, extremists, kidnappers and all other forms of armed criminals will learn from this decisive re-action from Goverment. May be there won't really be any backlash like some have suggested even if that happens the approach will certainly be different and I don't suppose the military and police will go back to rest after all the loss of personnel and equipment and pressure from those who are quick to criticise them for not acting in time and for not playing by human rights yard-stick.
FamilyRe: Will You Ever Get Married? by mikeoscar: 3:50am On Jul 30, 2009
While I agree that the post is a long read. I am amazed at the sarcasm of most responses the poster got. What Poster is simply saying is will you give your life to JESUS CHRIST, will you honor His invitation to a better life. Will you commit to submit to His absolute will and Authority over your life and not "two-time" with other gods? This is a a thought provoking homily that is worth paying attention to. Aside from the Allegorical and Theological dimension, there is also a Christological and Pneumatological dimention to it too. In order words God is giving us the opportunity to be re-conciled/respond  to the King of Kings and receive him into our lives by the prompting of the holy spirit. If you read the entire book of Esther you will under that Mordecai (Esther's uncle) is a type of the Holy Spirit . It is a wonderful piece and a call to repentance or reconciliation with our Christ.

So my Naira Landers, will you GET MARRIED TO JESUS?? Will you give your lives to Christ and be BORN AGAIN, and repent from your sins and acknowledge him as Lord and savior if you have not done so before now. If yes, then Join me in praying the following salvation prayer right where you are:

Lord Jesus,
I come to you today and confess I am a sinner,
I surrender my live to you
Please forgive my sins,
Wash me with your blood, purge me and rid me of every sin.
Make me a new creature. In Jesus Name I pray-Amen.

If you just prayed that prayer, go to a Bible believing church and tell the pastor that you just made a decision to serve christ un-conditionally and He will be a able to help you through your walk with God.

I am sure somebody now know why this five star post made it to the home-page.

I see you don't get it. You are bent on your bloated self opinion and you are irrationally accusing and judging people SOLELY based on Internet, etc. You don't make detrimental sweeping statements and malignning utterances about other people especially God's servant and get away with it. You and your lot are a complete disgrace at this forum. I have addressed Mr crackles,Okokomeji, Tudor and your likes and have told you the truth. If you insist on Imposing yourselves as the RIGHTEOUS Judge of all then know that you are sowing seeds, and you will most definitely reap a bumper harvest of every idle word you have spoken against these people .

You dare talk about "living above blamehuh" Were you the one one that called these men of God? were you the one that commisioned or ordained them into Ministry? were you the one that anointed them?, NO! It was God. You can't judge another man's servant .
You need to sweep the mess around your own front door first before trying to sweep other people's backyard. You tried to define faith, and still missed it big time! If you are a Christian(I doubt if you are in any form though), you will understand that OUR RESPONSIBILITY IS TO PRAY FOR MEN OF GOD, because they are men of like passion. They are fallible, they are vulnerable, they feel pain, feel frustrations, feel rejections, feel cheated, feel sad , fall ill and can be depressed, etc LIKE YOU AND I .The only difference though is that they have an anointing and a grace that God has put on them to help them in their walk with God and in fulfilling their calling. They are also the first line targets by the devil. Our sole responsibility is to pray for them(for the umpteenth time), not to bring false evidence against them.

[What exactly are the grave consequences? It's only in Nigerian that there are grave consequences, abi? What has happenend to the people who investigated and made public the financial mismanagement of pastor Ashimolowo in London and other pastors in the US who have been disgraced by the law for their excesses. No body is above scrutiny, assessment and criticism, If you think any criticism is false, just counter it. All the talk about 'grave consequences' is crap and is one of the reasons why nigerians are easily manipulated by their often unreasonable religious leaders.

Well my dear, the consequencies are numerous. God alone has the right to judge people. You completely out of line to use the case of Rev Mathew Ashimolowo and others as a bench-mark for abusing and insulting a man who has never been investigated or accused by government for the so-called financial mis-management. Do you live in the U.K. ? Did you really follow the Rev Ashimolowo issue apart from the sensational one-sided press stories. You say Nigerians are easily manipupated, You can't seem to intelligently differentiate between SPECIFICS and GENERALISED ISSUES.For the records NIGERIANS(and I'm proud to be one) are not easily manipulated. Guys& Gurls,
Somewhere in the thread, you would have seen TBKs excerpt from Open heaven facebook. I think that is enough to atleast deter Okokomeji, Mr Crackles and the host of other MOG haters to at least leave Pastor E.A. Adeboye alone.

Let me remind you folks championing the abuse and slander of Men of God in Naira Land(as I did mentioned in an earlier Post concerning the Honorable Pastor E.A. Adeboye) that there are grave consequencies to these trend I find not so funny in Naira Land for people to go on abusing, accusing and defaming the character of the Men of God with impunity. I have no doubt that most of you have problems you can't share with no body but taking it out on the Man of God or any other Man of God or Christians in Nigeria will not help you. If you need counselling concerning your troubles , may some self esteem problems feel free to share with any true believer or pastor and we will counsel and pray with you(and I'm addressing these to my friends Mr Crackles, okokomeji et al who are the spearheads of this caustic tongues). I sincerely believe the devil desires to sift you as wheat and anytime I read your comments I say a word of prayer for you(I'm serious) that the devil will not have you. I strongly believe that if you give your live to Christ, God can re-channel your perverted mind and bring greatness out of you.

Now to the Topic, you got a text message that pastor E.A. Adeboye ( many of you have twisted his first and last name into all kinds of evil word with impunity) said to pray between 11.00pm and 1.00pm .Now nobody is sure if it's him or not. But you are praying for your family, your loved ones etc, Now tell me, what is wrong with that even if He didn't say it. If you had discernment and you have been praying for your family, that won't cost nothing, so why the hate and vitrol everytime this man is mentioned. Imagine He were your Dad guys and we all start maligning, defaming, abusing, accusing, creating all kinds of dis-respectful images with his face will y'all be happy.huh Even if you parents were so Pathetic i won't support that.

Please, let's use this forum to discuss issues, disagree/agree with opinions without resorting to this sick post that i find with some of these individuals time and time again. What point exactly are you trying to prove? that you have low self esteem or that you can't stand the success of others or that you think you are better than anybody in the limelight.
I said it before, I don't give a care about Pastor Adeboye being voted by men in an opinion pool because at the end of the day it's only God who called him that has the power to judge or acquit him of his assignment on earth. pls, pls, pls guys.
God bless you all.

First of all let me not compound your troubles by further criticising your post than many have done. I will therefore advise that you read through some of those very constructive citicisms again and learn one or two things to help your own "written Engilish". You clearly have made sweeping statements with your controversial headline and messed-up the body of your post with same thing you are accusing us NIGERIANS of. You will probably find some mistakes in spellings or sentences in mine too(as I post) but that does not make our English language skill "so Appalling".
Just like in most  other cultures that have been mentioned in the thread, we also have people who can't be bothered with how their labio-dental phonetics come across  or how their oral English is received. On the other hand the only way many Nigerians have learnt to speak English has been via people from their cultures which is why SOME Ibos, Yorubas, Efiks, Edos etc speak English with a touch of their dialectic accent or even have to directly translate what they will communicate in their languages into English.

Interstingly though, the generation before ours studied English(Oral and written)  in Primary and secondary schools. I left secondary school in the late 80's and it was a Catholic mission Secondary school that demanded you studied and Enrolled for Oral(we use to say Oruuul!!!) English even in WAEC irrespective of weather you  were an Arts or Science Student. Plus, it was a MUST that all students registering for WAEC/GCE automatically had English, English Literature and Mathematics registered for you by the School Authority, again irrespective of weather you are a "Pure" Science or "Dry Arts" student.

True our PUBLIC Educational institutions have been on the decline for several reasons but to label it in its entiety as "APPALLING" is a hugely exaggerated statement.
PoliticsRe: Adeboye Wins Living Legend Polls by mikeoscar: 2:14pm On Jun 24, 2009
first think, no body is after adeboye's downfall. also no one is calling the old man un founded names. and again no one is saying the man is not real. everyone has their opinion on this matter; no one is acting as agents of the evil one. it is really disrespectful to call people fool.
we Nigerians are no fool at all. we know what is right and wrong. but the problem is that we chides away from the truth. to my best knowledge Adeboye is a good man of God and he has done a lot of God's work and his church is marching on. but to win the poll of the living legend in Nigeria is out of it. i mean its total out of it. what has he done to deserve
the living legend? we dont have to say because he is a man of God and award him what he dont deserve. My brother, even though I do not support people hating on others who  have flagrantly defamed the anointed and Honorable Pastor E.A. Adeboye, I want to say that the thread has been fraught with very appalling accusations and indeed NAME CALLING to the intent that I really wonder if expressions of opinion cannot be communicated in such a domain as this without swear words/curse words and disrespect for this man of God. I am not particularly interested in who voted him in or how He has polled on public opinion. He was not voted-in as pastor. His esteemable position is not a function of a public opinion or vote but a function of a SURE CALLING from God evident by the manifold manifestations of Gods numerous bountiful graces over his life and ministry.
Please I beseech you all by the mercies of God, who has shown us mercy when nobody would, who has covered us when no one would and who has kept us alive until now to STOP accusing this man of God because there is a clear consequence to slandering the anointed of God. Please DO NOT LET GOD STRIP YOU NAKED! DO NOT INVITE A CURSE ON YOUR LIFE AND CONSEQUENTLY ON EVERYTHING THAT COMES FROM YOUR LOINS (and this is not a threat). Our responsibility is to pray for our leaders and ask for Godly wisdom so they can rule/lead us in the fear of God and in accordance with God's divine agenda and original master plan for our nation. God bless Nigeria, God bless you all @ Nairaland-Amen!
EventsRe: Wedding Planning Palaver. Pls Am I Wrong? by mikeoscar: 2:12pm On Jun 19, 2009
My brother, there's been some wise counsel here but my concern is both of you should actually be talking to a professional marriage counsellor.

This is a lot better medium than an open domain like this, i mean this is a woman you plan to spend the rest of your life with.

Spend some time to pray together also and focus more on the reason you need to be accountable and frugal especially in this period of the crunch.
