ochejoseph: Obiageli what you did was wrong and I think you should apologise ,your choice of pictures especially for Nigeria was terrible I understand the 80% rule you are trying to play but Bad as e bad Nigerians know when to defend Nigeria . Bless Nigeria This post reminds me of one of the reasons why I dont like apologising to people, especially people like this, because every time I try to, I feel like I'm actually massaging someone's ego (that's disgusting)... Having said that, my point here is, Nigerians have very big problem with their ego. We see and place ourselves to high, above what we are. We brag (talking is cheap). We think we deserve special treatments and recommendAtions, more than other nations around us, because we are the 'giant', the most populous. We really are great people, very intelligent, very creative etc. But we also are very EGOCENTRIC. See all this tribal issues going on here? That's us trying to protect our egos (disgusting). That is because we feel insecure, about our future, about what's gonna happen to our reputation (cheap reputation based on talks and AK-47, a pure West African dream)if all this people we've been pouting our chest at wake up and realize that they are even better than us... we boast about the past, we fight over the past and we live in it, afraid to think of the future. |

PHIPEX: Nigeria is gradually distroying my psyche, I don't feel empathetic to reports of deaths across the country any more. It's now a normal news I share the same lamentation bro. The worst part about it is the pictures on social networks. People have not learnt to use discretion in sensitive issues that has much to do with ethics and morals. Anytime something tragic happens, some people will get the pictures and fill the social networks with it as if the dead people in them we never once alive, as if they would have loved the pictures of their mutilated bodies displayed for the world to see. NO RESPECTS at all, which is bad. |

I've laid in my quarters in my barrack, napping, while my country was in peril. waited silently, have I, for the order - Attack, and now it has come, he has ordered it for real.
It's high time my people stopped dying It's high time our mothers stopped crying it's high time someone payed the price if it is steep, that would be nice.
Garba where is my bomber? Emeka, please get me my bazooka, Olorunwaju please bring in the Chengdu, time to show 'them' fire and brimstone, time to kill those, who've killed our own.
We'll blast them out of there hidding places the surviving; the sun will never see their faces. we'll send them into the abyss for the underworld they'll die in torment for what they did to our world.
A couple of blitz or more, will do it, Bring out the belligerent 'Boko' and beat, Brush, bully, and batter the bastard and send it running in the direction of Baghdad.
For all those who hate peace, we will bring to you justice, do not expect any mercy, I repeat, we will show no mercy.
For you, commander of they who kill and destroy we've heard everything about you; all your story, boy, we will defeat your minions and raze your dwelling. we will make sure that you see no point in living.
and you who fest and feast with the beast, for you who wine and dine with their kind, we will wake the wonders of the west against you in your life, joy'll flew, and all the good you knew.
For all of you who had been faithful, to the law, Your days will be bountiful, for you will reap from what you sowed. you will all get what, all the financiers disowned.

shymexx: Yeah, after losing more than a thousand men in Sierra Leone alone and the tons of their helicopters shot down. The same goes for Liberia. In Sudan, they were annihilated by supporter of APC fighters and their camels. In Somalia, they were roasted by Al Shabaab. We all saw how the Kenya army annihilated the same Al Shabaab.
Your military police is just as strong as your army because they basically go through the same training save for a few extras.
Time will tell.
You mean the same army that's already overstretched? You've only got 75,000 people in your army for a country of about 160 million people.
You lot are just trying to solve the problem of BH by using the same tactics you used in making them more sophisticated - try something new.

The aptitude tests we are taking in our universities are supposed to be something that checks how apt (how cut out) a student is for a particular course he or she applied for. If the student performs bellow expectation the university is supposed to suggest other courses suitable for the person. if the student performs higher, it( the university can also advice them to opt for other courses it thinks they have more aptitude for. This is how it should be done, not when somebody scores 182 as average, they throw them into Fishery and Aquacultural science or Soil science ( I'm not saying that they shouldn't be studied). |

texazzpete: Anyone who calls this an 'anti-aircraft missile' has to be shot on sight for stupidity.
So you weld a simple tube, pack in explosives, put in pebbles and other small material for shrapnel, add springs to dampen vibration and to handle recoil and then you say you have an anti-aircraft missile?
It's a pity Nigerians are so poorly educated that this crude implement can be hyped beyond belief as an 'anti-aircraft missile'.
As Jakumo says, this probably drew inspiration from mortars of the day as well as ancient cannons firing grapeshot. What is clear is that this weapon had virtually no chance of ever bringing down any aircraft. All we can do is thank God that it had no aircraft to bring down when it was designed, because if mere RPG can bring down the BLACK HAWK, an American Helicopter,in Somalia, I don't see how this weapon that stopped an invasion can't. Mind you that the bombers in those days are not that accurate, so they had to fly at lower altitude in other to hit their targets more accurately. |

Sitting allowance for the house members are misused. Change doesn't explode. It leaks. This is stepping stone to better things to come in the health sector. taharqa: Buhari didnt 'crush' Maitesine Massacres, Shagari did. Yar'adua didnt 'crush' any BH at any time; he in fact aggravated the crisis by killing more than 800 people including Mohammed Yusuf (the former leader of BH).
I am however more interested in the Maitesine movement you mentioned. That Sect led by another Religious LUNATIC, Mohammed Marwa(the North seem to produce a lot of them) probably killed over 8000 people in the 1980s (much more than BH today). The REAL reason it was Defeated after a few years so cos the Norhern Religious, Traditional and Political Leaders COMPLETELY CONDEMNED AND REJECTED the movement and the Ethos it projected. This was in no measure encouraged by the fact that Marwa himself (alias 'Maitesine') angered the Religious and most Sunni ordinary Muslms by not only rejecting the Sunnah and other writings in Islam (except the Koran) but cos he later began calling himself the 'Prophet' thereby dishing even the Prophet Mohammed himself; he had also incurred the wrath of the Political Elites of the North by inciting people against them, claiming he was the 'new' Usman Dan Fodio and urging the overthrow of the Feudalistic System the Elites controlled. Maitesine and his Gang also began to kill INNOCENT people that disagreed with him. All these made the Northern Elites (Religious, Traditional and Political) and MOST ordinary Northerners to collaborate with the then Shagari-led FG, to mercilessly CRUSH Maitesine and his Crazy members. People, esp in Kano, even went as far as going to the homes of suspected Maitesine members, killing tehm and even their families.
Comparing the reaction of the North to Maitesine Crisis and their reaction to BH, is almost akin to comparing NIGHT and DAY. BH FOOOLs are mostly never really CONDEMNED. In fact, people make EXCUSES for them and blame EVERY THING/PERSON else rather than the Terrorist themselves for the crisis- JTF, CIA, MOSSAD, US GOVT, FG, GEJ, CPC, ANPP, PDP, IGBOS, CHRISTIANS, MEND, BIAFRA, KANURIS, FOREIGNERS, etc etc.
When Both the Northern Elites and MOST Northerners completely REJECTS BH, and cooperates with Security Agencies (like JTF- who have so far succeeded in significantly reducing the Spates of Attacks) like they did with the Maitesine Crisis, we may be stuck in this BH wahala fro a long time. JTF may reduce the Spates of Attacks and successfully destroy the ability of the terrorists to conduct co-ordinated Attacks like they used to before, BUT we may still be talking of BH still for some time to come.
PS: - Some Northerners have admittedly cooperated with the Security Agencies; One has to ACKNOWLEDEG that. They are unfortuantely too few and the cooperation too far between to produce the kind of results we all need to see- THE COMPLETE DEATH OF THE BH CRISIS. You made a point here bro. |

Politics › Re: Chinua Achebe At 82: 'We Remember Differently' - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie by mildteddy(m): 10:39pm On Jan 30, 2013 |
Katsumoto: Just want to pick a few holes in Adichie’s knowledge and analytical ability.
1. The object of a blockade is not to starve your enemy but to restrict the flow of armaments to it. If your enemy continues to receive arms, it continues to fight. Since no man who can’t feed himself has no business fighting a war, the RATIONAL action is to surrender once you run out of food and arms. Blockade is a military tactic; since Awolowo was not a military man and he was surrounded by military men, men who had trained at the Royal Military College Sandhurst, the credit for the blockade can’t be Awo’s
2. Awo did not prevent an Igbo man (Azikiwe) from ruling the West; Azikiwe’s NCNC lost the election We are yet to see the results of the elections according to the NCNC which gave it victory in 1951.
See election results below http://books.google.ca/books?id=Oi0aVR4YkmUC&pg=PA35&lpg=PA35&dq=1956+election+NCNC&source=bl&ots=xlo8I8O_iF&sig=jmQDabaMysM0SG7MMZI3yFZ49dg&hl=en&ei=004zTvWKL4OnsALHmdTtCg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CB0Q6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=1956%20election%20NCNC&f=false
In any case, what business did Zik have in wanting to rule outside his region? Could he love the Western region as much as the people from the Western region? When some Igbo belabor this point, one would think that the Easterners had allowed a Yoruba man to be premier of the Eastern region but the Westerners prevented the Easterners from ruling the West.
3. I am disappointed in Adichie’s interpretation of Awo’s speech to the Western leaders in Ibadan just before the war started. Awo said and I quote “If the Eastern Region is allowed by acts of omission or commission to secede from or opt out of Nigeria, then the Western Region and Lagos must also stay out of the Federation.” One would have expected Adichie to have better comprehension skills. What part of that quote expresses the intention of Awo to secede with the Eastern region?
4. Another lie that is told by many Igbo people is that Awo gave them only £20 for the millions they left in their bank accounts. The facts are that Igbo people took their savings and contributed it to the war effort. The grouse with the £20 pound policy is that Biafran pounds were obviously worthless at the end of the war and many were expecting the Nigerian government to exchange the Biafran notes for Nigerian notes. That would have introduced serious inflation and would have been economic suicide. Did the Biafrans return the £40million in the central banks in PortHarcourt and Enugu, the £53million in circulation, and the £2 million stolen from the Benin central bank? Igbo people were able to recover their properties in the West, and the rent which accrued from it but were unable to recover their properties in PortHarcourt which was in their own region.
5. Adichie states the Igbo held many positions in Nigeria because they were receptive to Western education. So the other groups in Nigeria weren’t receptive to Western education?
6. Gowon implemented most of the provisions from Aburi, the blame for war lay with Ojukwu who insisted on 100% implementation. The sticking point in any case, was that Ojukwu insisted that the Nigerian Head of State not have the power to appoint and fire regional governors i.e Ojukwu. This is quite an irony considering each region had the right to elect its own officials until Igbo sons organized the first coup and Ironsi unified the entire country. However, you dice it, Ndigbo were responsible for the events leading to the war.
7. Adichie’s insincerity and naivety comes to the fore when she argues that Ojukwu was right to ignore Gowon’s offer for a relief corridor because Airlifts were safer and also offered the opportunity to bring in much needed arms. First, Ojukwu charged landing fees to relief organisations which were providing FREE food to starving Biafrans. Second, Ojukwu refused different landing times for aid shipments because he wanted to continue smuggling in arms. Ojukwu’s people were dying and food should have been a priority over arms and money. He was in the weaker position against Gowon and had no right to make demands. He was also wrong to make extreme demands of the relief agencies. Does Adichie know the objectives of war? See excerpts from Fiona Terry's book "Codemmed to Repeat?: The Paradox Of Humanitarian Action' in the link below.
http://books.google.gr/books?id=KxiKPeQyiakC&pg=PA43&lpg=PA43&dq=landing+fees+biafra+ojukwu&source=bl&ots=9b32DbMfDR&sig=xPMnD19K0czQY9pPkxa1WRXEBlI&hl=en&sa=X&ei=Atl0UPmcKInOswbwmYBo&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q=landing%20fees%20biafra%20ojukwu&f=false
No one can deny Ndigbo’s right to feel the pains of the war but it appears that many Igbos want to continue twisting facts to further cement their victim mentality. It is obvious that the propaganda spread by Achebe has corrupted many Igbo young persons. When you tell your stories, be prepared to listen to the stories of the other side. Had it been that I have time, I would have liked to permit myself to get you wrong sir in a few of your candid points expressed from a stand point of a true moralist like your ancestors such as Awo were. But one thing I'll like to say is not new to come on NL, talk crap and get 40 likes, because we actually live in a society where people are more interested in the quantity and quality of peoples sentence construction and most at times "oratorial" and ability to manipulate facts in a way that suits their backward oriented minds and not the rudimentary facts. |
