Nigeria is a petrol-dollar economy. This simply means that Nigeria, Africa's largest economy with population of 200 million, have to sell crude oil to generate the US dollar needed to service her economy. There is a problem and disconnect between the leaders and the led. A news outlet brought a news that the man had been invited and was to come with his international passport while the government on the other hands that invited him says, he was invited truly but no iota of truth for him to bring his international passport along.
Funnily, I read through most of the comments and some people still insinuating that he was asked to bring his international passport. Well, to me, many commenters didn't even read the news but based their judgement on the caption or old story on their heads.
That aside, the man said some grevious thing against the government. No serious government will fold its hands and not invite such figure to come and clear the air for clarify. But let's be honest, the students are not fair to their school

Yes, I went to university for cheap. My fees were N2000, my accommodation was N90 per semester. Meanwhile, the hostels were trash, the library had outdated books, the labs were using equipment our fathers and dare i say grandfathers used when they were students, and the computer science department had 4 computers for the whole department 100l to 400l. All for fees which at the time were very cheap...and which meant that the university could not afford improvements

The fees of NAU are around N120000 per semester. That is less than 300 us dollars. Yet, these people protesting want their unviersity to look like one where the fees is 30000 dollars....on actual fees of less than 300 us dollars.

Is that realistic.?

Nigerians complain all day long about how bad their unviersites are, and how we are producing half backed graduates, and yet vote for governments who keep us resource dependent because we somehow have this idea that we can fund our unviersites by selling oil and other things . And the fact is, the price of the things we sell are so volatile that we cannot even earn a steady revenue from them over time, so we have to take loans to make the difference. Meanwhile countries that are far more industrial than we are have money to fund their unis well well...AND STILL CHARGE HIGHER FEES.

So the students should go and sit down, and let their governor increase the fees. Or else they should accept the state governor charging taxes at a rate of 50% per annum for everyone...everyone including the beggar on the street...to give them free education, because that's how most sensible European countries like Denmark, where education is free in return for half your salary in taxes... do it. Or they should stop complaining about bad facilities and just accept them ...because one cannot pay N2000 for a Toyota corolla and expect to get a toyota. corolla.

Because, as one VC of one Nigerian university said three years ago...if you want Cambridge level degrees, you pay Cmabridge level fees.

Nigerians should stop engaging in magical thinking. Either we raise fees....or we raise taxes...or we take more loans ....or we stop complaining and accept the bad facilites as they are.

The issue actually is not with who is the head of what seperatist group. The issue is that even if BH, bandits and killer fulani herdsmen have a Nnamdi Kanu equilavent, will this govt go after them the same way they have gone after Nnamdi Kanu or Sunday Igho?

I'm not igbo but let's be fair. A government that can say the reason fulani herdsmen killed people in Benue and other states
was due to the anti-grazing law passed in the states and blocking of grazing routes. A government that rehabilitates so called "repentant BH terrorists" while survivors of their onslaught are languishing in various IDP camps in the country. A country were Miyetti Allah will openly come out and claim responsibility for killings and vow more killings without nothing being done to them. A country where governors will meet bandits and take photograph with them.. A country where a civilian (Gumi) knows where bandits are and hold meetings with them and advocate for them while our so called military seems to be clueless about their whereabout. For your information, these bandits groups have a "Nnamdi Kanu" and it's the leaders of these group that hold meetings with governors (like the one that took a picture with Katsina state governor holding an AK 47). What has been done to that Nnamdi Kanu Equilavent?

A middle-aged man identified as Ibrahim Lawal aka Kawu has committed suicide by hanging in Daura town, Katsina State, Reports.

It was gathered by , that the deceased, who worked at the Sandamu Local Government Council, was found hanging from a tree on Sunday, July 4.

A resident, Usamatu Lawal, said that Lawal was in the habit of complaining to friends and families that he was finding it hard to feed his family due to high cost of living, Observed.

A trader, Alh. Saminau Daura, claimed he saw the deceased on Sunday morning before his death.

"He came to my shop in the morning and we exchanged greetings, I asked whether he was in the neighborhood to repair his car but he said no. He didn’t say anything afterwards but just walked away. He didn’t look like someone about to take his life.” Daura said.

Men of the Daura Police Division were invited to take down the corpse.

His remains were later buried in Daura according to Islamic rites.
