Family / Re: Why Do Women Prefer Their Children Over Their Husbands? by mission08: 4:56pm On Nov 10, 2021
Mofun:
Hello fellow-Nairalanders!
Please is it correct to conclude that most women tend to value their children more than their own husbands (I don't mean 'baby daddies')?
If it's correct then what could be responsible?

Cc: @RoyalRoy
@Lalasticlala

Prefer is not the right word I think. It's just that mothers dote on their kids. It's just natural and it is necessary for their survival especially at infant stage. And again, children in their innocence love unconditionally and merely seeing them can be a solace.

Raising kids can be demanding and most husbands that complain that their wives devout too much time to the kids and none to him is obviously not involved in parenting. It can be very draining dealing with husbands that compete or want to be treated as babies.

Sometimes, some married women would just decide to stop loving their husband unnecessary without having second thought of how many time he had contemplated backing out but would still remain in the marriage because of the kids and the wife needs.
Women don't realise that men get carried away only because of work and trying to fend for the family.
Any small thing, I dont love my husband again, I dont find him attractive again, he has changed from whom he used to be e.t.c just because the women are mostly idle and dont have any reasonable thing to ponder about, no doubt the bill would certainly be taking care of by that same man they're contemplating about. Even when they're working class, all what women do is always trying to compare their husbands with a pretentious colleague, imagining that, that colleague would have make a better husband.

To be honest, it is better not to migrate if one has a thriving career or business in Nigeria. The only problem is, the insecurity situation in Nigeria is getting worse. I personally don't regret living overseas because I don't have to worry about getting kidnapped or worse killed if my family can't pay a huge ransom. For me, living in a safe environment is very important to me. Having access to good healthcare is important. Having access to cheap affordable food stuff is important to me. Having access to stable electricity, tap water, and fast affordable internet is very important to me. I don't like a noisy environment and Nigeria is too noisy for me no thanks to generators and loud speakers mounted on churches and mosques. Nigeria is too overpopulated and the environment is dusty and filthy. I just hated it in Nigeria so I left. No amount of money will make me live there again.

However, if you don't mind a chaotic unsafe society, Nigeria is for you. Many of my family members still live in Nigeria. They are doing well career and business wise. They are not interested in migrating because they have no need to. Before you decide to migrate, pray about it and let God direct your path. Some are destined to make it in Nigeria and some are destined to make it outside the shores of Nigeria. My 2 cents.

@bolded...this is apt! The main concern for me...

Travel / Relocating Abroad…..no, I’d Rather Stay Back! by mission08: 12:07pm On Sep 01, 2021
Hi Everyone,

We all know that the drive to relocate abroad is basically to seek greener pastures, for better opportunities where systems work. For skilled professionals, they wish to relocate to where their skills will be more valued and compensated as against Nigeria where they are being taken for granted and undervalued. Some families move mainly to create a better future for their kids as opportunities are becoming slimmer and slimmer for young people.

But then relocating is not that easy as you may have to start from the scratch especially if you are already doing fairly well in Nigeria. So weighing the pros and cons, others might say ‘No, I’d rather stay back!

Now the question is, generally speaking, what is that reasonable monthly income that you think you’ll be just fine in Nigeria? Or what other factors do you think will make you turn down relocation?

Keep the opinion coming please….

Thank you!

Like others have said, you choose the school you can afford to pay comfortably. There is no need to put yourself under undue pressure.

Hmmm....this life is not balance! Just today someone told me the cost of paying for her sons (2 boys) transportation alone via school bus is 120k.

Luck with Trading today. This watchlist is my opinion and no buy or sell advice. The watchlist indicates stocks that have the potential to show movement for Day Trading purposes. The movement can be up or down, which is needed for my strategy the Pullback.

Last day of the week, before we go into the weekend. The Reddit stocks are still there and making massive moves. So strategies are still unreliable. Had some success with buying dips but that is also high risk and more for the experienced traders to recognize a dip and recover.

The Reddit stocks GME, AMC, SIEB, KOSS, NAKD, and for many people DOGE

DOGE is not a stock but a cryp.to which has always been seen as a useless coin (shit coin). But for some reasons, the 'Wallstreetbets' has chosen to pump it, the same way they are pumping GME and AMC. Everyone needs to be careful so you wont be caught holding the bag.

BEGIN BIG DICK DILIGENCE**

This is prime buying szn for Castor Maritime and I would absolutely hate to miss the next goddamn to paying off my mounting law school debt. For this reason, I’m going long on 20,000 shares to start. This summer, I’m looking to sink another 40,000 shares in them. 2021 is going to be a big year for maritime shipping.

Why is it a good buy, you might ask? Let me fucking tell you. The maritime shipping industry hemorrhaged during COVID and lost 4.1%. It is on track for at least a 4% gain industry-wide this year. The industry itself is gearing to boom. Freight prices are increasing and importers have signaled their willingness to pay the increased rate. CTRM is going to have unprecedented growth in the next two quarters as a result.

With Biden’s clean energy agenda coming down the pike, reformation of transportation emissions guidelines are to be expected. CTRM operates six dry bulk carriers with one capsize carrier being acquired just last week. The dry bulk carriers are among the lowest carbon-emitting vessels available for maritime transport. CTRM is already positioned well for this environmental leap.

It’s also stupid fucking cheap at $.45 per share. Most analysts with more than feces in their skull will see the $3+ one year target potential organically. If WSB gets behind them, anything is possible. Look at the lucky ones who got in at $.19 a few months ago. I bet life sucks from their sheep's wool jump seat window in their Gulfstream G650.

Get in loser, we aren’t going to the Moon or Mars. We are going to the motherfucking Andromeda Galaxy

I feel your pain. A lot of people got in during the ATH in 2017 and many were left holding the bag. I started buying bitcoin and the popular alts in 2013, then BTC was about $300 and I thought it was expensive for a virtual currency not back by any asset. I traded it then, and was surprisingly very good at predicting the price movements (you can check out my old posts).

Not to make this a long post, I'm basically a hodler now. I buy a small amount every month or when there's a huge selloff. Just like you, I got burnt buying into ICOs many of which became pump & dump schemes, but funny enough I still have some of those useless alts still sitting in my Binance wallet that I haven't checked in years. I cannot recommend any of the alts you mentioned as I haven't read their white papers or have forgotten what makes them unique. I bought Neo during the hype, I thought it was innovative but these days, I don't follow crypto news anymore but I still buy BTC. I also use BTC for remittance; when people in the US want to send money back home to naija, I'm able to offer them rates close to black market rates without any restrictions.

I will look into the alts you mentioned when I'm chanced, but I still think it's a good idea investing a small portion of your net worth into crypto as no one knows what will become of fiat money in the future.

Many thanks for your response which is highly appreciated.

Wow, you got into crypto quite early. I also still have most of those ICOs in myetherwallet. I checked the wallet a couple of months ago and I was heartbroken seeing their worthlessness. Just keeping them incase they pump. Floating ICOs was just a gateway to free money and unfortunately many of us fell for it.

A hint of the sectors about to create a new generation of wealthy people include:
1. 5G
2. EV
3. Lithium
Are you ready?

Hi Oakpeal, many thanks for this heads up.

I saw this post yesterday morning and I quickly did some research on EV stocks. My quick search lead me to Electrameccanica Vehicle (SOLO) among other viable stocks also considering the fact that it is a small cap stock. With the information I read, it seems quite promising and I bought a few number of shares. Between yesterday and today, I'm up 59.5%. Although I don't know what brought about this huge increase but I'm glad I didnt delay when I saw Oakpeal's post.

At 17, you are already well above your peers. If you start now and stay the course, your money will grow by compounding and you will be financially independent before you know it.

Start small and limit speculative trades. I would've suggested you avoid speculative trades completely but the truth is, at your age, even if you lose money in risky trades, you have your whole life ahead of you to make up for it. So what will I suggest? 90% of your portfolio should be in high growth stocks but in diversified sectors. The remaining 10% can be invested in micro caps, disruptor stocks(marijuana, biotech, 5G etc) and crypto.

Yeryer, it's very nice to know you are also into cryp.to. Are you a hodler or trader? I got into cryp.to during the late 2017/2018 ATH and I was burnt cos I bought some worthless ICOs then. I've learnt my lessons though but I have not given up though. I held on to my position all through the long heart rendering bearish market....bad move though.....still holding till now ... gradually moving positions to projects with future prospects on the long run. Hoping the recent btc halving will bring about the much awaited bull run.

What's your take on the following picks: NE.O, EO.S, Ontology, Electro.neum, Xinfin, Hedera Hash.graph and Quant. It will be nice if you could please mention any project that is also worth following.

Thanks.

You seem to have much time on your hand which has turned you to a monitoring spirit. Haba, she apologised without kneeling down, how is that an issue? Pray tell me, do you prostrate every time you apologise to your mum or do your sisters knee down when doing same?

If your brother knows what is good for him, he should move out from your family house. Otherwise, trivial issues like this will ruin his relationship. And as for the girl, she better make herself scarce.

For a guy, you are so so petty and by the way, how old are you? You will benefit from some level of exposure.....

Welcome on board!! You've taken a bold step towarads a path I strongly believe will lead to financial independence if done right. I remember coming across a similar tread like this on nairaland some years ago and that's was how I started investing in the stock market. I like TD Ameritrade, it is a broker for serious investors.

I like all four airline stocks and I still believe buying them at these levels is literally free money. As the economy opens up, people will travel once more. And like you said, we still need the airlines, will the govt just let them all go bankrupt? I don't think so. Unlike the cruise lines, the airlines are essential and yes the government will step in to save them (maybe not all) just like they did with the big banks in 2008.

You plan to hold these stocks for over 6 months, so I think even with uncertainty and volatility in the travel sector, you will still come out ahead as long term investor.

I will urge you to get a general understading of graphs so as to identify potential resistance and floor levels, it may help you trim or add to your position along the way.

Marriott and other leisure and entertainment stocks have been beaten to a pulp. The risk reward at these levels are enticing especially for a long term investor. But like Dremanuel said, try not to put all your eggs in one basket. Diversify your portfolio so it can withstand shocks in the market. Being fully invested in the travel and leisure space only can be risky, so if you have capital to buy more stocks, look into the health, consumer discretionary, financials and tech sectors.

Nice comment! The Robotics companies is another area long term investors might consider when diversifying.
Family / Re: Placing The Wrong Emphasis On Work (aka Earning A Living) by mission08: 6:52pm On May 10, 2020
bukatyne:

Work is to provide your means of livelihood: Marriage is for companionship, prevention of adultery and raising godly children.

Marriage like work is also a means to an end.

The advantage of focusing on marriage over work is that you train kids who will carry on with your legacy.

Marriage however differs in that it affects every other decision and fulfillment of your purpose.

To break it down, let's use Mary (the mother of Jesus) as an example:

Mary's purpose was to birth the savior (Jesus Christ). Let's assume she was a farmer (the Bible didn't say), that's her work. She was married to Joseph (an excellent choice because he was godly, fair and righteous).

Imagine Joseph was a rebebe man: it would not have been easy for her to fulfill her purpose; she might never have even fulfilled it.

That's why I would rate marriage above work.

Some other examples of work vs purpose are:

1. Jesus Christ: He was a carpenter (work) however, his purpose was to save the world.

2. Peter: Was a fisherman (work), his purpose was to be an apostle and being Christ to the Jews.

Etc. Etc.

Discover your purpose (the hard part), then marry someone who keys into that purpose and vice versa. While at it, you would surely have a work to earn a living.

And if you don't have kids?

My opinion:

Assuming you purchase usd @#450 & it crashes to #380 (worst case scenario and unlikely) that is circa 15% decline.

A decline will happen if cbn resumes and sustains allocations to bdc ops, prices of crude increases or dss arrests bdc ops for speculation. What are the odds of these happening in the near term?

If you deploy your capital on the American exchanges, what kind of returns are you looking at? Will it cover your cost and risk?
What is the performance of your previous usd investments like?

Does this paint a clearer picture of the situation at hand?

You remain the manager of your portfolio.

This is quite helpful.....true, it is quite unlike that there will be a decline in the short-run, at least looking at the current situation.

With regards to performance of previous stocks, they are making moderate gains (average of 16% gain from point of entry) . I do more of value and growth stocks considering my limited knowledge of the market - I am not a trader but more of a long-term hodler. Although I wont mind jumping on moving trains so long I am sure it is not about to do a U-turn.....
