Its a debate, not an inquisition. You answer your own questions and post links. Thats how we debate over here. Zahra29 is more fun to debate.
Come back , Zahra. 😃.

I only mentioned the daily mail because not everyone knows who rothermere is as would be clear to anyone who read my sentence...he does not pay uk taxes because of "non dom status ". That is unfair and should be remedied.simple and short

ReesheesuKnack:
You mentioned owner of daily mail. I asked you the simplest questions, your skirt around. Realising the folly of not drawing the line between the man vs the man’s businesses.

No no no no, we are not starting in the middle of the story.

You ll have to own up, tell us (the british people) how you ruined everything and beg us for forgiveness.

Then we ll discuss solutions.

Inviting people affected by the recent changes to direct all enquiries to the conservative party member on this thread. Let him try to explain the unexplainable. Should be entertaining.

ReesheesuKnack:
As an avid student of (recent Nigerian History), your rhetoric is EXACTLY what the APC used to get to power in 2015. All these ‘Where’ questions you are asking, the APC asked them. And because of all the Where’s rhetoric, the APC got into power. The APC (in 2014) was talking about making $ = NGN. What they failed to do was to say the ‘HOW’.

That is the same thing You (and UK Labour & Cooperative Party) are doing. Whipping up rhetorics. Oya, tell us (the voters) how you will achieve it. The HOW is the key thing here. Plus, where will the money come from?

Missjekyll. HoW will you achieve these?

Railways are expensive yet crap: How will labour reduce the fare from Sheffield to Rotherham from £5.10 to £1.20?

The NHS is now rubbish: HOW will Labour un-rubbish it?

There are no bobbies on the beat: How will Labour bring bobbies on the beat? And where will the money for the bobbies salaries come from?

There are more food banks than macdonalds: How will Labour establish more macdonalds to outnumber the food banks?

Prisons are now full to the brim: how will Labour decongest them?

You see, you keep on banging about how the Tories are rubbish. Tell us how Labour will solve the problems.

Apologies everyone, let me take Reesheesunack to a dead thread.

To sum up our discussion this afternoon, Tories are bad 👎. They know it and have accepted defeat in the next election.

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/tory-boss-accused-giving-up-31631600

As to the owner of the Daily mail, why don't you answer all those questions yourself? I have said he doesn't pay uk taxes
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/may/29/non-dom-status-claimed-by-800-british-born-taxpayers-living-in-uk,

where is your evidence that he does?

People , I ve found a Tory . Please direct your questions on the recent changes to him/her.
I have a few for him/her as well....

why are your plans for immigrants like all of us on this thread so vindictive and punishing? Why have you spent 300 million on this Rwanda fairytale with nothing to show for it?
Why are you pushing to leave the European Court of Human Rights ? What other terrors do you have planned for the hapless inhabitants of these Isles?

Why are the railways expensive yet cr*p?

why is the NHS now rubbish?

Why are schools collapsing literally?

Why are prisons now so full to the brim that criminals are being released early?where are our bobbies on the beat?

Why are criminal courts backed up to 2 years even for serious crimes?

Why can i no longer swim in the sea at dymchurch because soakaway is being poured into the ocean?

Why are there more foodbanks than mcdonalds?

What have you done well in the past 13 years?

Pray tell, inquiring minds on this thread want to know

ReesheesuKnack:
You see, my sister. (Probably) unlike you, the Daily Mail does not control or determine my PoV.
If it is any comfort (to you), I consume the Guardian, the Independent more than o do the Daily Mail or the Daily telegraph.

At least you have not been able to defend the Labour government in Wales.

You said the OWNER of the daily mail pays no taxes in the UK. How about the Business? Does the Daily mail (as a business pay their fair share of taxes? Does the daily mail pay corporation taxes? Is the daily mail a burden to the UK? Does the daily mail provide gainful employment to hundreds of citizens (who may otherwise probably have been without jobs?)

Is your issue with the daily mail (as a company) or with the daily mail major shareholder? Is your problem the company or the person?

Nearly everyone is telling you that you were wrong. We never agree on any subject here usually.
The conductors do retain a lot of discretion as to who to issue fines to. 1 person would have probably passed (as you did on 2 occasions)
but you with all your family ? Thats at least 4 seats. He probably couldn't have let that pass

1. Significant financial loss to the company (4 presumed fare dodgers)
2. Deterrent ( he may have felt you were a repeat fare dodger because you now had other people with you)

He was not out to get you. He was just doing his job so that he could go home to a hot cup of chocolate and marshmallows

I passed through two white people without stress, they must have seen something that made them let me pass, they didn't even tell me I should have bought a ticket before boarding! They just collected my £10 and gave change with a smile... I later read d rules and understood that tickets should be purchased before boarding etc... but I'm sure those whites would not have booked me for not buying tickets especially when they saw my family. Dear ehizario, contest every wrongly issued fine. So long as you are sure of your ground( which is easy as everything is written down), CONTEST IT. Never back down.

You do have to be in the right though for this approach to work. Sadly ,in this case you were not. Always buy a ticket before you board the train. Presumed farejumping has ended peoples professional careers in this country.

A consultant anaesthetist went down this year for this. I blame him as he could well afford his own oyster card.

I submit that comparing wales and england is comparing apples to oranges. They are 2 nations with entirely different demographics and budgeting priorities.
In any case , its probably best left to Scottish or Welsh Nigerians if there are any on the thread. You seem to be repeating daily mail headlines ( correct me if I m wrong)

What would be fairer is to compare the same nation (England) under the labour party and the conservatives.

As to taxes, it is only fair that people who make more should pay more taxes. Lord Rothermere (owner of the daily times a billionaire) pays No taxes in the UK. The same uk he has based his business in and freely uses UK services being paid for taxpayers like you and i. This is just 1 example. There are thousands more.

Taxing the rich will raise more money too for social services .Its simple mathematics, 40 % of £5000 is less than 40% of 1 million.

I heartily endorse this policy. Everybody should pay their share towards the growth of the country.
The government should tax them first before coming to me for more money.

ReesheesuKnack:
You are beginning to sound like Nigerian Governors. A PDP governor will be performing woefully in his state, he will not be doing what Governors are meant to do. If you ask him, he will point the fingers at the APC President as the cause.

Same applies to an ANPP Governor. This Governor will not pay salaries. Not pay pensioners. This Governor will use millions and millions and millions to sponsor pilgrimages. Sponsor mass weddings. Build new mosques. Sponsor quaran recitation programmes, sponsor feeding during Ramadan. This same Governor will not build or improve a single Govt Sec Schoo or primary school. If you want to hold him to ransom, he will point the blame at the PDP president at the centre.

Question: Has the Labour government in Wales utilised the ‘meagre’ resources they get from Westminster to better the lives of the Welsh voters (on issues that are within the powers of the devolved governments)?
No…. They would rather pursue useless 20mph speed limits.

Has the SNP utilised all they get from Westminster to better the lives of the Scots?
No, they would rather spend hundreds of hours pursuing phantom gender bills. And Nicola & her hubby will be using money to buy motorhomes.

I am not saying we Tories are messiahs. Never. I am not saying we Tories don’t have useless folks amongst us. Never.
All I am saying is, you stop this idea of portraying Tories as bad and Labour as messianic.

Imagine your way of raising money (according to you) is to tax the hell out of rich people, as though it is a crime to be genuinely rich. It amounts to poor understanding of Economics & capitalism to think that the best way a government can raise money is to tax the hell out of rich people.

But the rotherham train station has ticket machines, why were tickets not purchased at the station?
You are allowed to board without tickets if no ticket machines or was broken and no station staff. Then you pay to the conductor.

Did you contest the ticket? What was the outcome?
ehizario2012:
Hmmm... In my first week in this country, I took a train to Rotherham from Sheffield and paid £5.6 in cash inside the train, on my way back I paid the same £5.6 in cash. The conductors were white, a lady to, and a guy fro. It was only me that day, I went to confirm our accomodation.

Following day, I packed my family and all my children inside train to Rotherham, got there as usual, met a white conductor outside the train and told him I'll be paying cash inside the train he said no problem. Lo and behold, the conductor I saw was a black man, he asked for tickets and I said I am paying cash. Next thing, this black man gave me a ticket of £100 for not buying a ticket before boarding the train... My protests and samples of receipts of previous journeys fell on deaf ears. I felt so embarrassed with my kids. That's how we do ourselves, over sabi na e dey kill some of us. Over do!!! He definitely came in as a migrant too! If na Lagos we dey, I for use something do am.

Your aim is to get people to see your viewpoint and to see their viewpoint as well.

I disagree with the 2 posters discussing about immigration.
1. Everybody is welcome here . I dont think inviting anyone to leave is nice.

2. Using the bigotry in Nigerian politics as a basis for "understanding " and supporting bigotry here is fallacious. Where you were born shouldn't matter, it should only be where you live and pay taxes.Nigeria is not a standard for anything. I was a bigot back in university but having lived all over Nigeria and now here, i take people on a one-to-one basis. People are people all over the world.

Westminster have got the purse strings and with the best will in the world, even the best government in the world cannot deliver without funding.

You haven'thad a look at that link have you? The Libs dems were fully complicit in the 1st half of this tory dogs dinner.

What will you do differently?
Zahra29:
Lols the Tories certainly did not inherit a vibrant economy, because they came into power in the aftermath of the 2008 global financial crisis and after the likes of Lehman Brothers and Northern Rock had collapsed and RBS had to be nationalised. Labour actually left a now infamous letter in the Treasury saying " I'm afraid there's no money" which the Tories have used ever since as evidence to attack Labour's economic record.

Ironically the Tories have ended up doing more damage to the economy after their 13 year austerity experiment and systematic defunding of public services, so Labour is going to inherit an even worse economy when they come into power in 2024/25

I am 100% for real. This is from 2017 so hasn't even factored in the dogs dinner since the economy.

I m happy that you are keeping up to date with labour policy. Yes the rich will be taxed till the pips squeak. I shouldn't pay more tax than roshis wife.

As to immigration, labour ll do the common sense thing they have been doing to tackle immigration : set up a processing centre in France,
fund the courts so asylum seekers hearings can proceed faster,
fund more training for people already in the country in order to tackle the current severe skills shortage. Check immigration rates in 2010

I m excited to finally get a tory in debate. I went doorknocking in May. No-one admitted to being a tory. Too ashamed so I m happy that seems to be over. You are welcome to the thread ,Mx Tory.

Where is a Labour-run Westminster going to get the funds to share out to the devolved governments?

Travel › Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by missjekyll: 5:58pm On Dec 10, 2023
They did inherit a vibrant economy and have now run it into the ground.
Everything hinges on funding. If Westminster does not fund the devolved governments, there is very little they can do, even with the best will in the world.

Its even more shameful that even with the most funding of the 4 nations, the most people, this is the mess the tories have delivered in 13 years.
ReesheesuKnack:

This fit note sounds reasonable in the short term while perhaps exploring a mental health assessment or medication.

Why do you say "claims"?
ReesheesuKnack:
If a doctor like, let them have methuselah years of experience. If the ‘patient’ claims lack of sleep, distress, anxiety and mental health being affected. Mentions general body weakness. The doctor must give sick note.

They would complain even louder if their taxes were raised even higher to fund pensions and public services due to an aging population and not enough people of working age to fund it. How would they like to work 2 jobs to fill vacancies? They probably wouldn't like it very much

Even if every woman currently in this country has one child today, it would still take 18 years to make any useful contribution to the workforce. Who fills the gap in the meantime ? You guessed it...Immigrants

Lastly , and to me, the most compelling argument You cannot stop demographical change. Empires have tried , failed and been forgotten. ( the spartans tried, didnt work. Japan is finding out to their cost as they are now in demographic uncharted waters) . The demographics of the British Isles have changed over centuries. Its not going to stop in our lifetimes.

You cannot stop it, you just have to accept it
Zahra29:
I agree with your comment, especially the bolded..
However, it's worth noting that population growth is now being fuelled by migration, and not births. We're not alone in this, it's a similar picture across Europe, but it is still discomfiting to indigenes for various obvious reasons.

Extract from 2023 ONS study
Unlike in 1962, when the increase in population was largely because of a high number of births, the population increase in mid-2022 is mostly driven by an increase in net international migration.

Much as the tories want you to think your inability to access timely healthcare, get a schoolplace for your child is due to immigration, it is not.

Populations should increase with time . This increase is desirable inorder to provide the funds and human resources needed to power the economy, pay pensions etc.

Its been known for decades that the uk needed to build more houses , hospitals, train more staff. Funding was allocated for this in advance.

What we have seen in the past 13 years is funding cuts every year . What we are suffering now is the result of public services built for the population of 2010 being used by the population of 2023.

According to the ONS here , we did not even grow as much as expected, yet we are struggling https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/populationandmigration/populationestimates/bulletins/annualmidyearpopulationestimates/mid2021#population-change-for-uk-countries

Awww so cute. How altruistic of these migrants from different countries coming to save the NHS out of the goodness of their hearts! No pay or compensation or security for their children’s future in a working system which has led to the rise of Kemi Badenoch and co. I used GPs as an example, but the impact in my view is not limited to Healthcare alone (although there’s no denying 1.5m net migration in two years would affect services). Also Housing is impacted (see what’s also happening in Canada). Schooling and other general services. What’s the plan for everyone? Or is the goal just to “save” the NHS with the migrant workers and pay no heed to the unintended consequences.

I know first hand the difference between public services 2009/10/11/12 and what we are going through now. I never heard anyone waiting 2yrs plus for elective surgery etc.

This is beans , there are children who need 24hr highly specialised nursing care . The council pays for this because every child in this country has a right to life, healthcare, all the things in the unicef charter.
Compared to the cost of building a school, taxi fare is beans.

In canada, they kept a whole train station open for a single secondary school student for 6 years.
Thats how everybody should be valued.

I mean an experienced doctor ( you need 5 yrs of training to be a GP) can usually tell who is making things up or not, cant they?

Why are they not using this training and experience to save public money? Why are they abetting it by issuing fit notes they cannot stick their necks out on?
Surely fit notes cannot be based on vibes alone...
ReesheesuKnack:
The chancellor’s statement a few weeks ago mentioned how these loopholes will be closed.

No, doctors are not issuing frivolous sick notes. It is the ‘patients’ that are presenting with frivolous symptoms to get sick notes.

And it’s very easy to present with frivolous symptoms, especially if I want to keep out of work, knowing that I will not lose too much because benefits are there to resort to.
Travel › Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by missjekyll: 12:14pm On Dec 10, 2023
I must disagree with this. Yes , there are benefit cheats . What needs to be done is to close those loopholes. Demonising all benefit recipients isnt the way to go.

You hear of long covid , nhs waiting lists. Its people who are on those lists. People who would otherwise be working, in most cases and instead have to go on benefits. The Mental health wait list is astronomical. Those people will go on benefits too.

A society is only as developed as its most deprived individuals.

Also i wouldn't compare the contributions of immigrants to people on benefits. Its swings and roundabouts. Even the daily smell doesn't do that.

N.B: You seem to imply that GPs are issuing frivolous sick notes. Did i read that right? Any GP here? Is this correct?
jedisco:
The reason I get triggered when people make frivolous statements moreso about the NHS is cos its a sector I know

If you know any GP, ask them to tell you the number of fit notes they issue daily and the kind of things they are issued for. You would begin to see this country differently.

Over 100,000 additional people go off work on longterm sick leave every month many of them would be on benefits and a good chunk would work cash in cash-in-hand hence cheating the system both ways. How many visa paying immigrants are on that list?
Where is the outrage about the ten of thousands of new benefit claimants monthly? What contribution do these make to the nation in comparison to immigrants?

Just to correct the record especially for people who are new to the UK.

Having secured a work visa , student visa , global talent visa etc, you have fully earned your right to live and work here for the duration of your visa. Your dependents have also earned the right to public services by virtue of your taxes. They do not have to work themselves to prove anything to the tories.

The schools , hospitals , roads and other taxes are run via insurance where people who don't use it pay for those who do. Don't ever feel guilty if your ward needs a more expensive school or expensive medical treatment.
People like me who never use these services are taxed to ensure you do get them and I don't mind even a little bit.

On another note, do you know that you can vote ? Yes , even on your first day here, as a member of the commonwealth, you can vote.

Why not register to vote today so you can vote in governments who ve got great plans for you?

Right.
from what I can see of Labour policy on immigration, They agree immigration is too high ( I don't agree, obviously).
They know this is due to a skill shortage in the UK which now needs immigrants to do much needed jobs.

So, plan is to link immigrants to where skills are short in the short term.( shortage occupation list likely to stay) In the long term , to train up UK citizens to take up posts.

I think this is a better plan than the Tories who cannot think beyond breakfast. So I would advise for us to hang in there till next year, make sure you are registered to vote and vote these boogers out of office.

As for the silly salary cap nonsense, I predict it ll be challenged in court and thrown out or labour ll throw it out next year. You cannot keep families apart because of money shikena
