Lol, you call me a local champion and with the same breath you talk about how our culture is so great. Can't you see that you are as confused as I am?
I am certainly flabbergasted at how little you think of your culture. imagine asking me to compare sanskrit and nsibidi. its apple and oranges. no culture is more than any other.
People live in different circumstances and cultures develop as a way of surviving under those circumstances. you see why you cant compare them? I m sure the locals offered Dr Baikie some agbo to protect against malaria but he thumbed his nose at them. only to go and perish.

I cannot convince you of this on Nairaland. This realization comes from travel, only through travel. I hope you soon come to this realization by yourself.

Almost all ancient tribes had a way to cook food na, or else hunger go finish them. You know that was not what I meant by science and mathematics.

Look at ur Nsibidi and compare with Sanskrit. I ask you, which one will you prefer?
if you knew what science was,you wouldn't ask this. Science means seeking knowledge using steps that can be replicated to get the same result.
we thrived here. they came and malaria nearly wiped them out. why?

Oga you need to travel, you do sound like a self hating local champion. You will never ever ever be white. if you like hate and denigrate yourself till tomorrow. You need to start appreciating your culture or you can live your life as a pale imitation of a white man
I come in peace. Thank you for sharing Nsibidii . I know somebody is now looking at it with interest and will be motivated to learn more as a result.

@ultron12345, I strongly concur with you. Nigerians are a bunch of noise makers. When ever one Nigerian manage to gain some recognition in the world scene we start to beat our chests and boast, but they never take there time to check out what other Nationals are doing or have been doing.

By the way, Indians have had a complex civilization before the west came into the picture. They had their own alphabets, science, mathematics and technology similar to the Chinese. What did we have pre-colonization ? Not much. Read "Things fall apart" by Chinua Achebe to get some perspective.
Self hate much? let me point you to Nsibidi which was an alphabet used by Igbos pre colonization.

What is science? who taught us that yam is good to eat? how to build the best houses for our climate using readily available materials? I bet you didnt know we had our very own system of counting. We were a fully functional society. Much of our feats were passed on orally from generation to generation. Oral tradition is a validated way of passing on history.
However it is very fragile and can be erased if some nincompoops decide its not worth remembering as the british did.

so miss me with your self hating bs. I come from proud stock.

Sorry but how is global warming and its effect on Central London related to excessive flooding that affects the houses in the Lekki axis? Just asking for a curious friend.
If London which is not on the coast is expecting flooding, is there any hope for Victoria Island and Lekki?

If you want seafront property, you may want to buy in Ikorodu instead.

I think most of these houses in Lekki or highbrow areas in Lagos are overpriced. The same Lekki a closed friend abandoned his house about 2yrs ago due to excessive flood.
If Global warming continues at the current rate,it is projected that sometime in this century,Central London will be underwater. London is many miles inland.
Yea,Lagos,LosAngeles have no chance. Steer clear

covid19 is the biggest political propaganda I have ever seen in my entire life. We live our lives normally in Nigeria yet we haven't even broken 2k deaths, same with Ghana and other third world countries. They said it is because of cold yet Eastern European countries live normal lives, they even allow fans in their stadium yet their covid19 death toll is very very low. After November 3rd, I promise you that the noise from media about Coronavirus will be completely dead. They hype this coronavirus because it is what the democrat party based their entire campaign and platform on. They don't have anything to campaign with
UK goes into lockdown today. covid cannot be wished away,it has got to be faced squarely

Hi Ahib, how are you? I thought you might be at the protests. I saw on twitter that protesters have been sitting in for 3 days in Lagos. I was mad impressed and very proud.

We are not apathetic and uninterested in the affairs of Nigeria. Youth is known for vigor and passion. Nigerian Youths even more so. But years of deprivation and psychological torture by the ruling class has made us feel helpless. I am very happy we have found our voice at last.

With any luck,we can get this Buhari out as well so we can forge a country we can be proud of.

As for the detractors who dont see anything good in the young, what yahoo boys are doing is beans compared to the high tech fraud in the UK. The police uses tech to stay on top of the trends. They do not arrest people with luxury goods or laptops. #EndSarsNow

Couldn't have said it better.

I was gonna start listing stuff, like closing open gutters, people driving in their lanes, voting the right people and so on...

but it all boils down to the mindset of the poeple.

For instance, today 2020, some Nigerians I have asked still don't see anything wrong with open gutters by the side of almost all Nigerian roads. To them, it's just a place to piss I guess. Meanwhile, in other countries, you can't even tell where their gutters are.

So that mindset that still excuses abnormal things as normal, that is what I would change.
I am not so sure that I would change the mentality of Nigerians.we are very hospitable, welcoming people. Somebody adopted me at the Lagos airport and showed me the bus stop and then went on her way.

I will only remove the negative things that years of abuse by our rulers have instilled in us. We are now fearful. We do not protest. We are too hungry and preoccupied with daily survival to fight back.I am a millennial. i have never seen a covered gutter in my locality. my water source cannot be trusted. I do not have electricity. All these things leave a mark on the psyche, you know

I will remove the backward black African mentality and replace it with a white man's mentality. Believe me, that would be enough to create a change revolution.
This is very interesting. if I may ask ,what have you identified in the caucasian that is missing from an African. I m assuming you mean caucasian when you say white man because if I ever saw a man the color of a white shirt, he would be on his way to the ICU or the morgue smiley. They are not really white. just light yellow

corruption
I quite agree with this.
However, corruption has been here since the dawn of time. Man ,as we know him, has a great capacity for evil. So we have always had deterrents .In the traditional Igbo society,we had a system which rewarded good and punished anti social behaviour.

There was no king but we had the titled men and the meeting of free born men in the community. We also had the meeting of the women of the community and the Youth.

I would like to note here that this was before the coming of the white man. The Igbos had no outside influence of any sort and still delivered for centuries.

I m pointing this out because some people think Things are bad in Africa because of our skin colour. This is not true in anyway.

I would also like to say that I used the Igbos for illustration because that's the culture I am most familiar with.

Every other culture which has survived till now has also had their checks and balances as well.

Other countries have politicians as well. Why are our politicians so awful?

I would immediately reward the people who refuse to bow to the ''Nigerian'' Way of doing things. People will keep doing that which benefits them.

It takes a lot of character to go against the tide. So if you reward good behaviour you get more people doing it.

For the headstrong people of course, there is always life imprisonment with hard labor.

What about you?what do you think is the root cause of Nigerias problems? What would you change?

Lucky you. There is one Special Science School in Anambra that i check their website from time to time. It is called Loretto Special Science School Adazi. Is that the one you went to?.
Yes!! They do a "loretto Waec " in SS2. this is a waec exam set by the school. Students who fail are asked to repeat. Needless to say, 9 A1 is a common occurrence there. this was all 15 years ago. I hope they have maintained the standard. the teachers were not fantastic. In fact my Maths teacher was terrible BUT because I wanted to pass,I studied very hard on my own. Studying on my own led me to smash Jamb and the rest is history.
