Replacing danfos, if not handled properly can distabilize the whole Lagos State.
That's why its problems can't be compared to any State, thus, only the best individuals can Govern Lagos. What you have just highlighted is why the Lagos metro project is so important. The BRT service has been largely a success but alternatives to road transport are necessary in Lagos - such as ferry services, I know of some private operators but it surprises me that Lagos State has not felt it necessary to operate a bigger service. I think Lagos has taken big strides in the past 8 years and I'm looking forward to seeing how Lagos develops. |

Each state ought to have a centralized land registry so that everyone knows who owns what.
If it is owned by a community trust or an individual it needs to be clear otherwise land development will be a problem.
It's one of the reasons why land use in Lagos is so poor - for such a densely populated place ther are far too many low rise buildings. People are not in a hurry to invest because of the uncertainty of land rights and ownership. |

EzioAuditore: Here's what an unbiased source had to say:
One defining characteristic of administration in Northern Nigeria Protectorate was the inclusion of chiefs and emirs as "native authorities" fitting into British administration.[3] Taxation proved very difficult in the protectorate for the first years of British rule. Lugard's attempts to institute poll taxes were foiled by the emirates, the need to introduce coin controversy, and attempts to tax trade were opposed by powerful merchants.[3] This created a substantial deficit in the budget of the Protectorate and public works projects had to be paid by grants from the British Empire. As a result, the British often had significant shortages of British personnel before 1907. These pragmatic concerns resulted in incorporation of the traditional authorities within the British structure.[3]
These same financial and administrative challenges resulted in discussions led by Lugard for the unification of the Lagos Colony, the Southern Nigeria Protectorate, and Northern Nigeria. The disparities between the protectorates was to be corrected by creating a central administration in Lagos, with custom revenues from the south paying for the projects in the north.[3] The unified Colony and Protectorate of Nigeria began in 1914 and had two lieutenant governors with one responsible for the area of the southern province and another responsible for the northern province. The administration in the north remained largely separate and included and deepened the use of native authorities. These divisions have been found to persist in many respects to this day.
It wasn't because we couldn't, it's because we refused to give into the white mans demands because face it, we're bad as*es! Apparently you guys are good at accepting your masters demands, all the more reason why you can't break away without our blessing. That does not explain why northern Nigerian in 2015 is still not economically viable. They had to try and institute a poll tax - that only happens when there is insufficient business revenue. It wasn't southern poll tax that subsidized northern projects but customs revenue. Nothing in that passage refutes what I wrote. Why has 'Arewa' not even attempted to break away? Not even a murmuring? Could it be because things are much as they were in 1914? A few wealthy people and a huge, uneducated, poorly nourished underclass. P.S. Is it 'bad ass' to stagnate your own development? |

There has never been a time when the north has not been subsidized by the south. Economic output has always been greater in the south and will be for the foreseeable future - it's a matter of culture. Open societies foster trade and ingenuity. |
