RoyPCain:
and the progressive nigerian christians, in their grandeur of sophistication, education and nollywooding, they can not use the same oil resources that was already in full production since the 1960s, could not get the nation to be anything even near a visit. yet dubai that clearly from the backward 'islam' as the one ^ just wrote is a 'falling over one another' destination including it now being a business hub, 'free zone' designation, beautiful building, clean street, etc and pretty engineering and wonderful recreation, a paradise on earth which is completely inferior to what the arabs read is in Quran.

all the nigerian elites rush to dubai. it is now rivaling usa as a destination.

how intelligent is the person criticizing and cursing the shoulders that fostered the progress of dubai?
Who has been in control of Nigeria's government for the majority of Nigeria's time as an independent nation? The same people with the least progressive policies. It's not that they are Muslims that makes them backwards (although religion does not help) it is because they allow themselves to be handicapped by their religion and their 'culture'.

Whether you like it or not the southern states of Nigeria are in much better shape than any of the northern states. Kano is an ancient trading city that should rival Lagos for prosperity - the reality is that it isn't even close. Trade thrives in open societies, when people have a free exchange of ideas is where progress is made. The worst state in Yorubaland is comfortably Kwara. Why is that?

Was it Islam that gave us the technology to extract oil from the desert or was that the result of scientific investigation? Was it Islam that gave us modern architecture? Did Islam give us modern transport and the power of electricity so that we have so much need for oil, thus giving it its value?

To use the Emirates as an example of prosperity is to use an anomaly. Emiratis are not the ones driving their economy in any case. What of Pakistan? Yemen? Niger? Mauritania? Bangladesh? Somalia? And the many other Muslim majority nations that exist in a state of poverty and chaos.

The major war zones of today are where? Syria; Iraq; Yemen.

Violent insurgency in Libya, Somali, Syria, Iraq, northern Nigeria.

Only a foolish person would make the claim that religion and progress are mates. Religion is the opposite of knowledge and the enemy of human development.

The fact that you have turned the issue of development into a war of religions informs me that you have no understanding of what helps and what hinders humanity.

Thank GFod u agree with the simple fact that we have some great personalities amongst the female folk. Now my friend, how do we celebrate this few. if all we want to c n talk about is their love of money n dick of the most or vast majority of senceless girls. then it onnly tells me that, thats wat we celebrates hence wat we deserve.
We need women to know how much we love and appreciate them. how much virtues God has invested in them, how much expectation the maker n society has 4m them.

avnt u notice how we celebrate wrong values n vices here on nairaland like indecent dressing and even attempting to discredit or insult the value of been chaste till the wedding night as though we dnt knw that minors also uses this medium
The question was not what women 'ought to like' or what 'good women like' but what women, that is to say the majority of women, like.

Sadly - the lists that you disagree with are founded on reality.

If you want to open a thread where we discuss the wonderful women in our lives then I will discuss with enthusiasm the great women that I have been fortunate enough to know.

No one stops you from commenting on those threads.
Why crying here?
Why should we not discuss on a discussion forum?

This is a point I will keep asking about it until someone gives a logical, reasonable answer.

If you want your own board/section then keep it private so that only those that subscribe to it can comment.

Do not advertise it as open to all then have people find out otherwise - that is dishonest.

I do not believe in this creed:

"I believe that there no god/God but Allah."
"I believe that Muhammad is God's Holy Prophet."
"I believe that Islam is the Only True Religion."
"lā ʾilāha ʾillā-llāh, muhammadun rasūlu-llāh."

In order to comment on a topic that pertains to us all as human beings I have to accept a religious creed? Looks almost like forced online conversion.

If they seek open discussion then they should move their threads to a place where it can be openly discussed.

I know some great women but I appreciate them even more because I know that they are not the norm.

If the majority of women were as you described then Nollywood movie themes would be very different.

Television shows would be cater to a more intelligent audience, instead of peddling nonsense.

Fashion would be very different - modesty would be en vogue.

Linda Ikeji would not focus so much on senseless gossip celebrating the fraudulent practices of the children of corrupt politicians.

Churches would not make so much money.

The reality is that women have a great responsible in society, nature has given them such as our entry port into the world and our first teachers. If women were all that you make them out to be the world would be very different.

Politics › Re: 4 Reasons Why Buhari Might Not Deliver by mmsen:
Buhari could have used his name and influence in the north to campaign for any number of progressive policies - ending child marriage and lowering the rate of fistula occurence; encouraging polio vaccination in order to end the scourge of polio; ending almajiri culture; encourage governors to use their Federal allocations to build schools; encourage family planning thus lowering the poverty rate.

Tackling any one of these issues would lead to improved circumstances in northern Nigeria. That Buhari failed to campaign for even one of them shows he has no understanding of the importance of good policy or he is a coward, afraid to confront those within his own community who insist on holding the majority in a servile and pitiful state.

Instead, General Buhari decided that he would fight two issues publicly:

1. Sharia law

2. Boko Haram ("an attack on Boko Haram is an attack on the north" )

What did either of these two issues do to improve the lives of those in northern Nigeria?

How does anyone reason that a coward with no sense of priorities and no pedigree when it comes to policy or administration is a good choice as an Executive President?

You see your life Nigeria? An american president wants to talk to an iraqi president, he calls him direct. An American president wants to talk to an Afghan president? He calls him direct. But when he wants to pass some instructions to a nigerian president, he deligates the job to either one lanky-out of sort-secretary of state or to his vice. Mind you Nigeria is the biggest economy in Africa, the biggest concentration of black people in the world, accounting for at least one in every five black people in the planet! Her size alone, her numbers alone, her pivotal regional clout over the years are enough to attract some respect from the so called 'first American black president. But Obama won't bulge! From day one, he has treated Nigeria with utmost levity while our cantankerous brand of wreckless oppossition with their NADECO styled type of oppossition lapped it up.

It is a diplomatic thunderous slap when the prime minister of Britain visits Nigeria and insists he will only meet Jonathan in Lagos and not the seat of power in Abuja. It amounts to a well crafted diplomatic insult, when an ORDINARY American sec of state is delegated to visit the Nigerian leadership, and he too insists on stoping at Lagos. When an ordinary diplomat starts awarding 'medals of (warped) honour' to Jega, our INEC cheif , at the middle of a general election, iit is a direct interference with our countrys domestic issues and should merit the diplomat in question the status of a 'persona non grata'! For eight years, Obama has avoided Nigeria like we are some kind of leprosy camp,, yet he salivates at every oppurtuinity to ridicule Nigeria. Even before he became president. He it was as a senator, who insisted that Nigeria must swallow the humble pie and surrender Taylor before Nigerias debt releif could be negotiated. He reduced President Bush HIV/AIDS subsidy drug for Africa. Infact Obamas has always biult his no nonsense character on the back of suffering African economies and people.
The Americans are not your friends.

Never have they ever pretended to be.

Why would Americans or Europeans wish anything other than servitude from Africa?

The Americans play nice with Liberia and Ghana but refuse to do so with Nigeria?

Ask yourself why.

They cannot ridicule you if you do not take them seriously. Why are so many of you looking for external approval, from the Americans of all people? They are in no position to lecture anyone on economics, human rights or security. If they had their way Nigeria would be like Syria or Iraq right now.

Yes, but what you made reference to relates more to economic theory than mechanical engineering. You acknowledged the existence of newer cheaper technologies for exploitation of oil which would have been more beneficial to the thread than downplaying the discovery in its entirety on the basis of the failures in the ND.
Any engineering project would include cost analysis/viability.

The whole purpose is to get more for less in any industry, engineering in particular is about efficiency.

The region that you speak of has only very recently been given marginal control over some of its own resources.

We should be asking what the Federal government did with the money besides build Abuja and send their children to school abroad.

We know that they did not invest in Nigerian education for decades, or healthcare, roads or power generation.

Had they invested in education they could have completely nationalized the oil industry and kept all of the proceeds. Alas, they did not even have the sense or foresight to do that much.

Had they invested in power generation Nigeria would have a viable manufacturing industry. Again, no foresight - all they saw was the hand out from multinational oil companies.

For decades Nigeria was allowed to regress whilst oil was being pumped - the people who wasted those resources have still not been brought to task. Rather, their children and spouses are celebrated on this forum.

Even after all the silly talk of lagoons and drowning, not one Yoruba speaking person was responsible for the death of an Igbo speaking person in Lagos, or vice versa.

Regardless of what anyone might tell you Yorubas are perfectly safe (and more than welcome) in Enugu, safe in Aba, safe in Port Harcourt, safe in Calabar, safe in Uyo - why is it that they are not safe in Ilorin?

Blaming the Igboman for Nigeria's problem is a ruse to distract from the real cause. Stop allowing yourselves to be deceived.

This is in stark contrast to Jos where people are being killed for the most petty of reasons. If people are looking for something to cry about maybe Jos should be their focus.

I don't watch many movies, least of all South African movies - is that all South African movies or just one particular film? And was it made by a South African or a Nigerian looking to perpetuate silly stereotypes? That is what entertainment largely does, feed nonsense to the consumer.

My point still stands - ask the average South African, Malaysian, Brit, American or Australian to pick out the Yoruba or an Igbo man and he won't be able to. Nor would they care - they would simply see another African. Most cannot differentiate between someone from the Gambia from someone from Kenya or Nigeria but you reason that they can tell the difference between a Yoruba speaking person and an Igbo speaking person?
