Gbawe: Well-said bro. This is precisely what I have been saying to SE and SS posters on several threads the past few days. Whatever happened to putting Nigeria first? Jonathan had a lot of critics from the SW and North, including me, going into the 2011 election. As soon as he won most of us wished him well and implored he led Nigeria properly so that our Nation can make progress which would be to the glory and happiness of all of us. Check the NL archives if you doubt this.
Contrast this with how most SE and SS commentators continje to spew hatred against Buhari and the APC and it is becoming obvious that many from those region are rooted in the unobjective, petty and malevolent hatred of the SW and the North to the extent they cannot even 'sheat their sword' for the sake of Nigeria's progress. Jonathan had his shot and failed miserably. Nigerians , in the majority, have elected a new President yet primordial hate will not allow many in the SE and SS to respect the will of the majority and get behind the new President and government. Really pathetic.
The bigots in the SE and SS, because they talk loudest, are doing a great job defining those regions as anti-progressive, uncooperative, hateful, unreasonable, petty, ethnocentric, prejudiced, disrespectul and irredeemable enemies of Nigeria's progress who cannot rise above their primitive hatred of the North and SW. History will judge the conduct of all Nigerian ethnic groups at crucial stages in our history when it would have been helpful for all Nigerians to come together for the greater good of the nation yet some could only be hateful, vengeful and perpetually bitter. What is 'progressive' about Buhari or the APC? We are not talking about new political actors here. They have all been involved previously. Many of them have been instrumental in the same corrupt practices that they claim to now be against. |

They have my sympathy but South African history has been a brutal one and sadly this nonsense is to be expected - nothing has been done to uplift the majority population by their political class, as such they will remain frustrated. In many regards South Africa's majority population has a lot in common with northern Nigerians, both groups prefer to kill outsiders (or each other) than to hold their crooked leaders accountable.
The FG has failed to protect business men from being attacked in the north for decades - what chance that they will protect those in a foreign nation? |

Gamesmart: What roads?
How does Lagos-Ibadan expressway look today? World class?
What about Ore-Benin?
What airport?
MMA is up to standard of even a regional airport in Europe?
You mean when they touch up things poorly and then loot the money is what you refer to?
The same money meant for airports that Stella Oduah used $1.6m dollars to buy 2 cars and Jonathan supported her without shame?
Please show us your stats that proves Jonathan built more schools than any Northern President and Governor.
Which universities?
You mean if you build any structure and label it "University", then it is a university?
Nigeria does not have enough academic staff to work in existing university, where is the sense in building 50,000 more universities?
And you talk about priorities?
So your support of Jonathan is not based on what he has done, but what he plans or promises to do?
In 6 years, what has he done for power?
Then tell us what a competent person could have done in 6 years to Nigeria's power generation.
I don't understand economics?
You do?
Where is your understanding of economics and government when you refer to building of universities despite knowing you don't have the resources to staff them?
I am the one that needs to learn? There is only one region that struggles to find enough teaching staff for both schools and universities. We all know which one that is. We should all be able to see why by now. Jonathan is the first one to attempt to seriously tackle the problem by establishing facilities within that region. Nigeria's power sector has been a mess for decades - how do you expect Jonathan to completely fix the problem in six years? How naive can you be? Roads in Nigeria are much better today than they were 10 years ago and I'm glad to see work still being done on major roads. Again, it is an ongoing process, much like the electricity issue but you fail to understand this. It is all about progress, which is being made. Improvements have been made with the airports but you would prefer to pretend as if nothing has happened. Stella Oduah did not attempt to hide her purchase because she was under the belief that she was entitled to such according to longstanding rules, a sign of the wastage that has long been a part of Nigerian public life. That was a mistake that put Jonathan in a conundrum but very different from the open corruption that Yar'adua's own wife practiced whereby she was taking bribes for oil contracts - there is nothing in the rules for that. I am not saying that Jonathan was a perfect man or president but he had good ideas which he has implemented and which will allow Nigeria to prosper in the long run. Even today a new deal has been signed for nuclear power - let us hope that the incoming administration do not scupper the deal in the name of petty politics. |

Gamesmart: So in your attempt to show Jonathan is better than Buhari, you decided to employ some bias by picking a thing Jonathan did and then say "Oh, Buhari should have campaigned for this, not that?
When we talked about warped sense of priority, why are you not telling us that Jonathan should have been campaigning to stop corruption, rather than build almajiri schools?
Is Nigeria's priority almajiri schools or corruption?
Is Nigeria's priority almajiri schools or power?
Is Nigeria's priority almajiri schools or infrastructure?
Can you now see how warped your thinking and argument itself is? The Federal government during Jonathan's tenure has built roads, replaced key railway lines and refurbished existing airports as well as building new ones. The same administration built more universities in the north than any northern administration ever has. Built more schools than any northern president or governor has, ever. Education is always a priority, investing in people is the most important investment that a government can make. If you do not invest in knowledge and skills then your people will always struggle - like it or not this is why northern Nigeria is the way that it is. It is because of the lack of educational opportunities for northern children that so many end up on the street and are then prey for groups such as Boko Haram. Measures were taken to rejuvenate the power infrastructure. More power is being generated, it is now for the DISCOs to do their job, those are private enterprises, not government. The PIB is on the table, the local content bill passed, the banking sector is more stable than it has been in decades. Because you do not understand the role of government and you have no patience to see how policy will influence economics in the long run, you fail to appreciate what the Jonathan administration has done for Nigeria. I suggest that you educate yourself on the difference between the Federal government, the state governments and the private sector. |

Gamesmart: How does how bad Hitler or Rasputin was got to do with "is Jonathan a good man or not"?
The fact that you need to find some "negative" to compare him with before he looks good is enough to say you know he is not a good man.
"Is Ajegunle a good place to live?"
"Well, it is better than Makoko because it is not flooded, so it is a very good place to live even though it is not perfect."
Can you see how senseless that sounds? There is nothing perfect under the sun as such everything becomes a question of relativity and what is best. In the case of Buhari vs Jonathan only a fool would argue that Buhari is a wise choice. 'Good' is a useless term in this instance. 'Better' is more appropriate. |

Gamesmart: The question is "Is Jonathan a good man or not".
Not "Is a Jonathan a good man when compared to Buhari, Escobar or Willy Wonka". Buhari has committed his fair share of atrocities. Who knows what Lagos would be like now if it had the metro system that Jakande had planned. Buhari put an end to that by paying the 78 million dollar penalty fee instead of allowing the project to go ahead for 120 million dollars and complete the project. Buhari is the clown who interfered when the Jonathan administration sought to attack Boko Haram by claiming that to do so would be an 'attack on the North'. Buhari is the man who has done nothing but campaign for Sharia law for the north, as if that was/is the biggest concern. Why did he not campaign against child-brides? Almajiris? Poor educational attainment by northern children? Poor healthcare? Fistula? Polio? He could have campaigned against any number of problems that northern Nigeria faces, real issues that have made life for people there unbearably difficult, instead he chose to hide behind religion. Jonathan has put in place schools for northern almajiri students. Why is the Federal government having to do the job of the state officials? What have they been doing for the past 50 years that they still do not have sufficient schools for their abundant children? How are they supposed to become eligible for decent employment if they are not given the opportunity to get the qualifications necessary? Why did Buhari not campaign about this issue? That is why I can comfortably say that Jonathan is a good man compared to Buhari. He is far from perfect but the silence on genuine matters and the ignorance that Buhari and his ilk have displayed are the core reasons why Boko Haram has become such a menace and why one half of the nation is so far behind when it comes to human development indices. |

Gamesmart: What has referring to Buhari got to do with Jonathan is not a good man
This is as stupid asking:
"Isn't that what Pablo Escobar is doing?
Are drug dealers any better than the people that Jonathan has around him?" No, it is not. People (adults and children) voted Buhari into office, not because he has a reputation as an excellent administrator, orator or intellectual but because of his reputation for being honest, his dealings with Abacha notwithstanding. The argument was made that Jonathan cannot be a good man because of the people in his party and administration. Buhari has many of the people who were formerly in the PDP in his own party and has men like Tinubu and El-Rufai seemingly in his circle. So my question is - how can Buhari be a good man when he has so many thieves in his circle? |

Misogynist2014: Bible is based purely on history unlike that useless and contradictory book called Qur'an. To assert that the historical book of God in history, how we can use history to relate with the present and the promise of living with Him in future is a book of myth, you have to have absolute knowledge of those for and against, then drawing logical conclusion due to weakness of those pro Bible to assert it as a complete fable. I am not asking for much, all I demand for is that after juxtaposing between the two views, what are the things you have that makes you assert that Bible is a complete and undiluted myth which is not different from Krishna and Zeus? Forrest Gump is a story based around real events but that does not mean that the tale itself is true. Anyway, much of the Bible is nonsense, the claim that the whole world was flooded is one. There may be records of a 'Herod' but no other source records a massacre of children. There are several other fallacies in the Bible, proof that it is no better than the Koran. |
