All for the sake of religion.

Pitiful.

Revert - to go back to.

Most people are not raised Muslim so they cannot return to said religion.
Christianity Etc › Re: Whitney Houston: A Case Study Of Generational Curse by mmsen:
Generational curses?

You mean habits passed from parent to child? That is how we form many of our habits - we learn from those that raise us.

The term "generational curse" is (one of many reasons) why I am convinced that many people need intensive parenting skills training prior to having children.

The reason many of our forefathers adopted foreign religion was mainly for survival not worship. You have to realize the colonialist controlled the economy, while the missionaries controlled the schools. Something had to give.
Behind all superstition is an element of fear, a weak attempt to understand the world. That does not mean that some of these people were not genuine in their irrationality.

I do however take your point that there will always be those who will profess to believe something to placate those in positions of authority.

How has African religions kept you from knowledge?
African religion hasn't kept me from anything - I have never been exposed to it.

But the reason so many of the Nigerian peoples were willing to adopt foreign religions is because it wasn't a great alteration to go from one fairytale to another - they kept the idea of a supreme being, witches and other superstitions. No great change.

They're both involved in the same hustle - keeping people blind to knowledge so as to maintain control over them.

Most of the sheep, African or otherwise react negatively to non-xtian religious images because that is part of the in-group indoctrination integral for the spread (and strengthening) of the disease.

Christianity all but wiped out native pagan European religions, largely by incorporating many of the practices and celebrations - hence Easter and Christmas.

None of them foresaw that the price of oil dropping - which would affect the consumer at the pump but would also influence the Federal government.

That would affect the value of the government bonds issued by the various OPEC countries, including Nigeria.
Christianity Etc › Re: Women Should Not Keep Quiet In Church ! by mmsen:
So the Bible is not the unerring word of god?

Because the Bible is very consistent when it comes to the standing of women:

Genesis 3:16 - "A woman shall be ruled by her husband"

Exodus 21:7 - "Women can be sold"

1 Cor. 11:7 -"For a man ought not to have his head covered, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man."

And let us not forget this prize verse:

1 Cor, 7:1 - "It is good for man to have nothing to do with a woman"

Famous theologians such as Martin Luther subscribed to the notion that women were inferior, writing - "boys are good crops, girls are weeds". AND "If women become tired or even die, that does not matter. Let them die in childbirth, that is why they are there."

This is the nature of xtianity, like it or not.

Christianity Etc › The American Missionary That Sterilised An Entire Asian Tribe by mmsen(op): 2:40am On Jan 27, 2015
Paul Lewis was an American Baptist Missionary. When seen in perspective of Thai attitudes about the hill tribes and their demands for sterilizations of these people, then Paul Lewis fits right in. However he seeks to make out as if he is doing the people a favor rather than doing himself a favor. As well we see many prejudicial remarks in this document typical to how missionaries rewrite the identity of a people, something the Akha say Paul Lewis was very good at.

Actually sir, placing all your hopes in god creates the worst forms of anxiety.

Be honest, look at a city like Lagos with tens of thousands of churches, most with one form of program or another every single day. Why do you think people attend these daily programs? Anxiety.
The more they go, the more they pray, the more expectations of divine intervention in their lives.
The more they expect, the more dissapointed they are,the more mmeaningless, and again, the more anxiety in their lives.

It is a vicious circle that eats them up to their bones.

So, you are quite wrong. Believing in god carries serious and heavy liabilities.
All the while the preachers grow fat from the need of the worried to 'pray' (and tithe, of course).

Christianity Etc › Re: Reasons To Believe In God As An Athiest by mmsen:
Depression and anxiety affect people irregardless of religious persuasion.

The only 'valid' reasons to profess a religion pertain to social games/rules (including politics) and the misguided notion that there is safety in numbers - in reality there is no safety in hiding behind fellow cowards.

Political leaders will do whatever it takes to retain power and appear to be doing some good.

The Brits sought to introduce measures to curtail access to internet pornography and America is contemplating doing likewise.

Torrent sites are also largely blocked in the UK.

One of many cases of power for the sake of power.

Don't you even feel a tad silly complaining about the quality of debates on a religious forum ? huh

It goes a long way to show that, like a lot of other things, you are quite naive about what religion is and how it affects people.
He said that he isn't interested in the opinions of the people that he is now preaching to.

What do you call such a person?
